    • Ellington (neck) is expected to return...

Ellington (neck) is expected to return to practice Friday, the Cardinals' official site reports.

Analysis: Ellington was initially held out Tuesday as a result of the neck concern, which isn't deemed to be severe but resulted in another absence Wednesday. After an off-day Thursday, his presence Friday will confirm that there's nothing to worry about regarding the Cardinals' No. 1 back. In the meantime, Stepfan Taylor and Jonathan Dwyer have garnered more reps than normal out of the backfield.

    • Toon has consistently come up with...

Toon has consistently come up with catches on nearly every pass pattern during training camp through the first five days, increase his chance of breaking into a more established role in the Saints offense, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Analysis: After sitting out all of his rookie year in 2012 with a foot injury, the former University of Wisconsin product struggled in 2013 and was used sparingly in the offense. Toon, however, has the size and hands that made him an ideal eventual replacement for Marques Colston when the team took him in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. If Toon can master the complete route tree and make the typical progress of wide outs between their second and third years in the league, he could find a steady role in the Saints high-powered attack.

    • Brees has looked sharper at this...

Brees has looked sharper at this point in training camp than he has in the past couple of years, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Analysis: According to reports, Brees has been on point with just about every throw and hasn't had a bad practice yet. While not exactly breaking news that the former Super Bowl MVP is pretty darn swell at chucking the pigskin, the recent reports should reaffirm Brees' place among the few elite fantasy options at quarterback, even at 35 years old.

Wilson (neck) tweeted that "everything turned out to fine" and that he could see the field again after his five-day rest period and subsequent examination, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Analysis: That Wilson is hopeful of a quick return doesn't mean he'll have one, but it's certainly better than the alternative. We'll know more next week, but it's a bad sign that Wilson already aggravated his neck injury without even being tackled.

Cruz's skill set is particularly well-suited to coordinator Ben McAdoo's new West Coast offense, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Analysis: The idea is to get the ball out of Eli Manning's hands quickly and into the hands of playmakers like Cruz. While Odell Beckham is faster and Rueben Randle is bigger, Cruz is the quickest in and out of breaks and should be an even more frequent target this year.
