    • Johnson (knee) has been medically cleared...

Johnson (knee) has been medically cleared by Dr. James Andrews to participate in training camp, Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reports.

Analysis: Johnson has already impressed Jets brass with his speed during conditioning drills Wednesday, and will look to continue to make an impression as contact drills are gradually eased into the mix. The Jets took a risk on Johnson when they signed him to a two-year deal just two months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus, but as it currently stands, the gamble is looking like it may pay off. The 28-year-old Johnson is coming off a season in which he posted the second lowest rushing total of his career, along with a career-worst 3.9 YPC, but he's eager to prove the doubters wrong. Johnson will likely be pushed for reps by Chris Ivory and Bilial Powell, but the veteran arguably has the most raw talent out of this group, even at his age. Regardless, Johnson will be comfortable with any role he's given, and will look to make the most of his opportunities. "I'm ready to do whatever they ask me to do," he stated.

    • Skrine will enter camp as the...

Skrine will enter camp as the projected starter at cornerback opposite Joe Haden, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Analysis: Skrine may enter camp as the starter, but he'll surely receive a heavy push for reps from first-rounder Justin Gilbert, who signed his rookie deal with the Browns on Wednesday. Regardless of who enters the season with the starting job, there's a good chance both players will see relatively equal reps opposite Haden. This news doesn't bode well for either player's value as an IDP.

Johnson (knee) has been cleared for camp with the Browns, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Analysis: Johnson didn't participate in team drills during OTAs, and was originally thought to be a candidate to start the year on the physically unable to perform list, but it finally appears as if he's heard a bit of good news. The team discovered that Johnson had a torn ACL when they signed him off the Packers' practice squad last October, so they have yet to see him in action, even on the practice field. If he can prove he's fully healthy, Johnson may eventually end up in the mix for targets, especially if Josh Gordon is handed a lengthly suspension.

    • Coach Mike Pettine stated Wednesday that...

Coach Mike Pettine stated Wednesday that Hoyer will enter training camp as the Browns' starter, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Analysis: Both Hoyer and rookie Johnny Manziel will see reps with the first-team offense when training camp opens Friday, but Pettine seems to have hinted that Hoyer will have the edge out of the gates. The quarterback battle is expected to continue on into the preseason, where Pettine expects to make the official announcement on his starter by the third preseason game at the latest. Despite all the hype surrounding the rookie Manziel, it sounds like the job is Hoyer's to lose. Hoyer may be the more experienced option and slightly better pocket passer, but it will certainly be tough to hold off the x-factor that Manziel brings to the table. Unless one candidate is able to drastically separate themself during camp, it seems as if both quarterbacks will make at least one preseason start, after which Pettine should finally announce a decision.

    • Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday...

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that Orton indicated in the offseason that he does not plan to retire, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis: NFL.com reported back in May that Orton told the Cowboys he wanted to retire, but Jones refuted that claim Wednesday. It doesn't change a whole lot, as Orton was cut by the Cowboys earlier this month and may have changed his mind about continuing his playing career. If he does latch on elsewhere, Orton will simply be a low-upside backup.
