    • Gradkowski is re-signing with the Steelers...

Gradkowski is re-signing with the Steelers to compete against Landry Jones for the backup job, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports.

Analysis: Gradkowski and Jones went through the same thing last year, but the competition ended early when the former needed surgery on his non-throwing hand at the end of the preseason. Jones and Mike Vick both ended up making starts during Ben Roethlisberger's four-game absence, with Jones at least managing to hold his own. It thus seems Gradkowski will enter the competition as an underdog, though he should be back to full health.

The Bears have released Rolle (knee), the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Releasing Rolle saves the Bears $3 million against their 2016 salary cap, with the move made more feasible after the team took safeties Deon Bush and DeAndre Houston-Carson in the recently-completed NFL Draft. The 33-year-old Rolle was limited to seven games and 35 tackles in his one and only season with the Bears in 2015.

    • Ball (knee) is "doing everything" and...

Ball (knee) is "doing everything" and expected to be "ready to roll" for the offseason program by Raiders' GM Reggie McKenzie.

Analysis: Ball emerged in Week 5 of last season by holding Denver TE Owen Daniels without a catch on five targets. The performance earned Ball his first career start versus San Diego in Week 6, but shortly into the game he suffered a knee sprain, was ruled out by halftime, and failed to take a snap the rest of the year. Ball will serve as depth for an imposing Raiders outside linebacking corps in 2016 behind Khalil Mack, Bruce Irvin, Malcolm Smith, and perhaps Aldon Smith (suspension), should he return in November.

The Browns traded a seventh-round draft pick (223rd overall) to the Dolphins in exchange for Taylor and the 250th pick in the draft, NFL.com reports.

Analysis: Taylor, who was taken by the Dolphins in the second round of the 2013 draft, will look to re-boot his NFL career after ending up a healthy scratch for three of Miami's last five games this past season. At the very least, he provides the Browns with a player with some untapped ability to boost the team's depth at cornerback.

    • Johnson will enter training camp with...

Johnson will enter training camp with increased competition for a top-three receiver role with the Vikings taking Laquon Treadwell in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft.

Analysis: With Stefon Diggs likely to enter training camp as the No. 1 receiver and Jarius Wright expected to retain the slot receive role, Johnson may continue to be relegated in the offense if Treadwell wins the No. 2 receiver role. Johnson emerged in the second half of the 2014 campaign, accruing 25 receptions (on 46 targets) for 415 yards and two touchdowns across the final seven games, but Johnson struggled last season with injuries and was phased out of the offense and went without a catch after Week 9. The drafting of Treadwell will likely relegate Johnson to a minimal role again in 2016.
