The Dolphins traded Bess to the Browns on Friday, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Analysis: The compensation for Bess has not yet been specified, but it's believed the Dolphins will receive a middle-round pick in return for the 27-year-old wideout. Bess caught just one touchdown last season, but he did average a career-best 12.8 yards per catch, and perhaps a change of scenery will help Bess take that next step as a player that he's seemingly been on the verge of for years.

The Dolphins and Browns are reportedly discussing a possible trade that would send Bess to Cleveland, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: After adding Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson to the mix this offseason, Bess -- who had 61 catches for 778 yards and one touchdown in 2012 -- appears to the odd man out in the Dolphins' wideout mix. For their part, the Browns are looking to upgrade at the position, with the Cardinals, 49ers, Rams, Vikings and Jets also potentially in play to acquire Bess.

Bess and the Dolphins may end up splitting apart, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly.

Analysis: The team is at odds over how his back injury was handled late last season. Bess believed he could have played through the injury, he just didn't want to practice. One would think this would get worked out, but this is a new coaching staff who may not want to put up with this kind of behavior.

Bess is recovered from the sprained back that cost him the final three games of the season, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis: Despite playing three fewer games in 2012 than the season before, Bess actually improved his production with Ryan Tannehill behind center, yielding 10 more catches and nearly 250 more receiving yards. Bess should reprise his role as the Dolphins' top slot receiver next season, though his low touchdown totals make him a marginal fantasy play most weeks.

Bess (back) has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jaguars, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Bess' absence could mean added looks for Marlon Moore opposite Brian Hartline this weekend, but he's only caught four passes this season, so he'd be a highly speculative play in the fantasy playoffs.

Bess (back) missed practice Friday, the Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Analysis: This is the third straight practice Bess has missed, so he is unlikely to suit up this week. If Bess sits out Sunday, the Dolphins will only have four active WRs. However, only Brian Hartline is worth a look in fantasy at this juncture of the season.

Analysis: Bess may not be able to play Sunday due to the back issue especially if he is unable to get on the practice field Friday. Without Bess, an already struggling Dolphins offense would find it even more difficult to moves the chains. More on Bess' status Friday, but those who normally rely on him are advised to track his status closely leading up to Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff against the Jaguars.

Analysis: Bess was able to ride the stationary bike Wednesday while his teammates practiced. While his fantasy upside has been capped by the fact that he has only scored once this season, Bess has carved out some utility -- especially in PRR formats -- by notching 61 receptions for 778 yards in 13 games to date. Bess had five receptions for 50 yards versus the 49ers in Week 14.

Analysis: Pretty much a normal afternoon for Bess. He was tied for the team lead in targets with eight, but unless he manages to get in the end zone, which is a rarity, his fantasy impact is limited.

Bess had seven catches on nine targets for a season-high 129 yards Sunday against the Seahawks.

Analysis: Bess's previous high was 123, which he had in Week 4 against the Cardinals but his next highest was 86 yards against the Jets in Week 3. He's been targeted 20 times in the last two games and seems to be stepping up as teams focus more attention on Brian Hartline. Next up is a matchup against a Patriots defense that is ranked near the bottom of the league against the pass this year.

Bess caught six passes for 50 yards and a touchdown Thursday against the Bills.

Analysis: Bess led the Fins in targets (11), receptions, and receiving yards while securing Miami's only offensive score on the night. The score was his first of the year as Bess's main value continues to be in PPR leagues, a matchup with Seattle's stiff pass defense is up next.

Bess is not listed on the Dolphins' injury report for Thursday's game against the Bills, the team's official site reports.

Bess (averaging 60.4 receiving yards per game) has yet to score a TD this season, but he has carved out some utility especially in PPR formats, with 38 catches in eight games, including 16 over his last three outings.

Analysis: Bess is what he is, someone who is going to catch somewhere in the neighborhood of 4-to-6 passes per game for an average of nearly 13 yards per reception. If he picks up more red-zone targets, he would certainly become more valuable.

Analysis: Bess isn't having the year most were hoping for, but he once again led the team in targets with nine, the scores are just going to be few and far between.

Analysis: Bess once again led the team in targets with nine, but his lack of a touchdown and/or a long catch will always keep him from being a top fantasy play week in and week out.

Analysis: Bess may have only caught two balls, but he was targeted a team leading six times. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill is playing quite a bit better than expected for the Dolphins which could lead to the passing game improving as the season moves along.

Analysis: A big game for Bess, who was somewhat of an afterthought thanks to Brian Hartline's 12 catches for 253 yards and a touchdown. Bess was targeted 12 times Sunday, although fantasy owners would like to see him catch a few more passes; he has only 13 catches in four games this year.

Bess had five receptions for 86 yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets.

Analysis: Bess was third in targets, but made the most of his opportunities as he led the team in yardage. Bess has never been a touchdown threat, but in PPR leagues he has a good deal of value.

Bess had 43 yards on three receptions during Sunday's big win over Oakland.

Analysis: Bess only saw six targets on the day as Brian Hartline was open early and often for rookie QB Ryan Tannehill. Bess still has value in a PPR league, but touchdowns will be few and far between.

Bess had five receptions for 45 yards in Sunday's mauling by the Texans.

Analysis: Bess did what he does best, and that's catch passes. Unfortunately he didn't break any for a big gain. The Dolphins passing offense isn't likely to take off anytime soon, hopefully you have better options on your bench than Bess or any Miami receiver.

Bess caught four passes for 59 yards on six targets Friday against the Falcons.

Analysis: Bess had the most targets of any Dolphins wide receiver and given the questions marks at the position this year, he looks like the favorite to be the No. 1 guy in Miami in 2012.

Bess has been lining up on the outside in practice, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

Analysis: The Dolphins aren't lining Bess up outside because they think he can do more damage there than in the slot, but because they just don't have anyone in camp that has truly stepped up. Once the season starts however it's still a good bet that Bess will once again be the Dolphins slot receiver.

Ochocinco signs with Dolphins

Wide receiver Chad Ochocinco signed a one year deal with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

Analysis: The move gives Ochocinco his best chance to return to relevance both on the field and in fantasy. With Davone Bess likely to move to the slot and Brian Hartline out wide, Ochocinco bears consideration as a sleeper candidate in fantasy drafts should he earn the job.

According to Omar Kelly of The South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Bess (knee) was the Dolphins' most impressive player in the first day of their organized team activities on Tuesday.

Analysis: This positive nugget is worth mentioning simply because Bess is bouncing back from both a second-degree torn MCL and a partially torn ACL that he suffered in the Dolphins' 2011 season finale. With Brandon Marshall now with the Bears, there's an opportunity for Bess, assuming his good health, to see more targets this season, after seeing his catch total drop from 79 in 2010 to 51 last year.

Though Bess was practicing Tuesday, the Palm Beach Post reveals that he suffered both a second-degree torn MCL and a partially torn ACL in the Dolphins' 2011 season finale.

Analysis: Despite the ACL aspect of his injury, which would normally raise a huge red flag, Bess was able to avoid undergoing surgery this past offseason. "Luckily, the ligaments were in the right place where they could heal by themselves, so I didn't have to have any surgery," Bess said. We'll have to see if Bess is limited at all once the Dolphins amp up their on-field activities, but so far there has been nothing to suggest that Bess' knee will be a major concern going forward.

Analysis: Some were calling Bess a poor man's Wes Welker coming into the season, hmmm, not so much.
