Analysis: Martinez had missed Thursday's and Friday's scrimmages with an undisclosed issue, but he was seen on the sidelines getting his feet tended to by trainers Monday. The fact Martinez was able to participate in some fashion is certainly a positive sign, as it's too early to rule him out for Week 1. The former Packer is expected to handle a staring inside linebacker role for 2020 once healthy.

Sits out scrimmage
Martinez (undisclosed) didn't participate in Friday's scrimmage, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Head coach Joe Judge didn't provide an update on why Martinez sat out, but there should be a better understanding soon. The former Packer has recorded 144-plus tackles in three straight seasons, and he's poised to start at inside linebacker with the Giants once he's healthy. If he's forced to miss any time, either Ryan Connelly or rookie T.J. Brunson will fill in.

Lands with Giants
Martinez agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Giants on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Martinez finished near the top of the league in tackles over the past three seasons, amassing 443 total tackles while playing in all 48 regular-season contests for the Packers. According to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio, it's a three-year deal worth about $30 million.

Leads squad in tackles
Martinez, who posted 19 tackles between two playoff contests, recorded 155 tackles, three sacks and two pass breakups over 16 regular-season games in 2019.
Analysis: Martinez led the Packers in regular-season tackles, ranking second in the league behind Bobby Wagner, and he followed suit in the postseason. The Stanford product's rookie contract will expire in March, and he'll be an unrestricted free agent. There's no telling if the Packers will retain him, but if they choose to let him walk, they'll need to bring in a new starter either through free agency or the draft because neither Oren Burks nor Ty Summers looks ready to assume that role.
