Richardson (lower leg muscle pull) did not practice at Thursday's OTAs, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: While this shouldn't be a long-term issue for Richardson, coach Rob Chudzinski acknowledged that the running back may miss the team's (June 4-6) mini-camp.

A civil lawsuit was filed against Richardson on Friday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Two individuals filed the suit, which was directed against Richardson, his brother, his girlfriend and two others. The two individuals who filed the suit claim they were physically assaulted at Richardson's home in December, with Richardson allegedly damaging the hood of the filers' vehicle and "orchestrating" the assault that allegedly occurred, though Richardson himself was not named as an assailant. The Browns are aware of the situation but have not commented on it.

Richardson (ankle/ribs) finished his season ranked third among rookies with 950 rushing yards and 51 receptions. He scored 11 rushing touchdowns and added one through the air to go along with 367 receiving yards.
Analysis: Richardson's first professional season has to be considered a success. He showcased the all-around ability and strength as a runner that made him the third overall pick in last April's draft. Though productive, it wasn't a flawless campaign. As he did at Alabama, Richardson struggled to stay healthy in 2012, and played a large portion of the year dinged up, which has to be a concern moving forward. He was also unable to break the big play, tallying just two runs of 20-plus yards, and none over 40. His deep speed was another issue heading into the year as he transitioned to the pro game. Despite these limitations, there were few backs who received the type of workload Richardson did on all three downs, in the passing game, and around the goal line. He will be worthy of a selection in the first few rounds in fantasy drafts next season.

Trent Richardson: Played With Broken Ribs
Richardson, who sat out the Browns' regular-season finale with a high ankle sprain, also revealed Monday that he played for much of his rookie season with broken ribs, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Analysis: The good news is that Richardson now has plenty of time to heal up from the various aches and pains he sustained and endured this past season. On the flip side, as much we like his fantasy upside in 2013, prospective drafters/bidders should be aware that until he proves otherwise, Richardson carries a certain amount of injury and durability risk in his second season as a pro.

Trent Richardson: (Ankle) Ruled Out for Finale
Richardson (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Steelers, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: As a result, Montario Hardesty is in line to start in Richardson's place Sunday, with Brandon Jackson slated to back him up. Richardson finishes up his rookie campaign with 267 carries for 950 yards, with 11 rushing TDs to go along with 51 catches for 367 yards and a receiving TD in 15 games. While his 3.6 yards per carry wasn't particularly impressive, Richardson played through various aches and pains this season and assuming he enters the 2013 campaign healthy, the Alabama product has plenty of upside in both real and fantasy terms.

Trent Richardson: (Ankle) No Practice Friday
Richardson (ankle) did not take part in Friday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Richardson did not practice at all this week, so it seems likely that he will be ruled out of what is a meaningless game for the Browns. An announcement on Richardson's official status will likely come later Friday, but assuming he sits, Montario Hardesty would be in line to start the season finale.

Analysis: While Richardson hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, coach Pat Shurmur noted that the Browns won't wait until game time to make that call. Trent Richardson: Ankle Woes Cloud Week 17 Status
Richardson, who is dealing with an ankle injury, has not been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Coach Pat Shurmur confirmed Monday that Richardson's ankle is not broken, but while the team is still evaluating the rookie back's injury, it is hard to imagine the Browns pushing him to play this week. Trent Richardson: Suffers Foot Injury
Richardson (foot) had a walking boot on his left foot following Sunday's game against the Broncos, but said it is not broken, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.
Analysis: Richardson was carted off the field at the end of the game Sunday, after rushing for 53 yards on nine carries. The fact that his foot is not broken is certainly an encouraging sign, but fantasy owners should start thinking of alternatives for next week, if Richardson can't go. Given that the Browns are far out of the playoff picture, there doesn't appear to be any reason to rush Richardson back.

Coach Pat Shurmur said that the Browns are not considering shutting down Richardson (ribs) for the team's final two games, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Though Richardson's 3.5 yards per carry to date mark isn't eye-popping -- and he was limited to 69 yards on 29 carries over the last two weeks -- he has managed to retain fantasy viability by scoring in four straight games, including twice in each of his last two contests.

Trent Richardson questions Pat Shurmur's play-calling
Running back Trent Richardson, who only had two carries in the second half, openly questioned Shurmur's play-calling.
Analysis: The lack of carries is surprising considering the Browns were in a close game most of the day. But with nagging injuries and a steadily declining yards per carry average, it's not a shock that the coaching staff decided to try other options. So far, Richardson's greatest value has been as a short-yardage and goal-line back.

Richardson (chest) rushed for just 28 yards on 11 carries, but managed to find the end zone twice Sunday against the Redskins. He also added three catches for four yards.
Analysis: Richardson wasn't very productive Sunday, averaging just 2.3 yards-per-touch, but he managed to salvage his fantasy day with the two scores. Explosive plays in the running game haven't been there for the rookie, as he's averaging just 3.5 yards-per-carry and hasn't gone over 100 yards in six games, but he's scored in four-straight. Richardson is averaging 24 carries per game during the past month, without a 100-yard game. He hasn't averaged more than 3.6 yards per carry in any of those games and was held to just 42 yards last week. FULL REPORT

Despite Richardson's 3.5 yards per carry average on the season, Montario Hardesty (4.7 yards per carry) is no threat to overtake him as the Browns' top back, the Canton Repository reports. "We're not there," offensive coordinator Brad Childress said. "Certainly we're not there."
Analysis: Richardson has racked up four TDs over his last three games, but it is worth noting that his carries have gone from 29 to 20 to 18 in that span, during which he has averaged just a shade under three yards a carry. Meanwhile, Hardesty has gone from two to five to 10 carries in that span, averaging 6.2 yards per carry. While Hardesty has likely earned added touches in the Browns' offense down the stretch, note that he fumbled at the one-yard line in Week 14, so it's hard to imagine his stealing a ton of goal-line touches from Richardson in his change-of-pace role.

Richardson (ribs) produced yet another solid fantasy output Sunday against the Chiefs. He finished with 42 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns.
Analysis: The yards-per-carry weren't great, and he lost some carries to Montario Hardesty as the Browns were nursing a healthy lead, but owners have to be pleased with Richardson's production. Sunday broke his five-game streak with 20 or more carries, but he continues to climb the fantasy running back ranks due to his consistently heavy workload and his nose for the endzone. Richardson second among rookie RBs
In his Week 14 "Like/Dislike" analysis, Adam Rank notes Richardson "has 827 rush yards and seven touchdowns this season. He also has 44 receptions, 339 yards and a TD reception. Richardson's 1,166 yards from scrimmage ranks second among rookies this season (Doug Martin, 1,480)." READ: LIKE/DISLIKE
Analysis: While a matchup against the Chiefs 26th rush defense looks good on paper, the unit has not allowed a rushing score their last two matchups and only seven all season. Trent Richardson: (Ribs) Looking Better at Practice
Coach Pat Shurmur noted that Richardson (ribs) looked way better Wednesday than he did a week ago in practice, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Analysis: Richardson intends to play Sunday against the Chargers, something that coach Pat Shurmur plans to sign off on as long as the Browns' medical staff gives its approval. "If he's healthy to play, he plays," Shurmur said. "And if they tell me that he's at no risk to hurt it further, then we're playing ball. As I watch him in practice, just like we watched him in the game, if we feel like [resting him is] something that we can and should do, then we'll do it. Otherwise we're getting him ready to play."

Coach Pat Shurmur said that he's going to watch Richardson (ribs) at practice in the coming days to see where he's at physically, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Richardson tried to play through his rib issue Sunday against the Colts, but was hampered to the point that he finished with just eight carries for eight yards.
Analysis: Shurmur also noted that the team could sit Richardson this coming Sunday against the Chargers if his rib injury is hurting him to point that he can't play, which is a possibility, given Richardson's post-game comments. "I'm not myself out there right now, said Richardson. "You look at me, I guess I'm not running hard like I'm used to, so I'm not out there right now. So it is worse than what people think it is." If Richardson is limited at all, or sits this week, then Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya would be in line for added carries Sunday.

"I'm still gonna play every play like it's my last," Richardson said. "But in my mind, I'm ready. I can't wait to see what the results are going to be on Sunday."
Analysis: Meanwhile, Coach Pat Shurmur noted that the Browns will watch Richardson at practice Thursday, which will be in pads, while confirming that there have been no setbacks with the running back's knee. Assuming that none occur Thursday when Richardson takes some hits, then he remains on track to suit up Sunday.

Trent Richardson: Likes His Chances of Playing in Week 1
Richardson (knee) said Wednesday that the only thing that would keep him from playing in Sunday's season opener is if coach Pat Shurmur doesn't feel as though he is ready, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Analysis: Richardson also noted that he's confident in his left knee at this point and hasn't experienced any swelling in the knee either. Barring a setback, Richardson seems to have a solid shot to suit up Sunday against the Eagles, but his status will still be worth tracking right up to kickoff.

Richardson (knee) practiced again Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: We'll have to see whether Richardson is listed as a full participant or a limited one, but if things progress without setback, the rookie's chances of suiting up Sunday against the Eagles are trending in a positive direction.

When asked about Richardson's outlook for Week 1, team president Mike Holmgren said, if he plays, there is a certain amount of care the situation requires. "The worst thing we could do is rush him before he's ready," according to Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal.
Analysis: On the same day coach Pat Shurmur said Richardson would be the starter as soon as he's able to play, the president is preaching caution. The two statements don't seem to jive. It's a tough decision for fantasy owners this week, as Philadelphia was middle-of-the-road (16th) against the run last year, and it's a home game for the Browns. Almost certainly, Brandon Jackson and/or Montario Hardesty will also get work in the event Richardson gets the start, but it's tough to leave a player of his potential on the bench. Unless the decision is between he and a solid veteran back, insert T-Rich as of this moment and express your own cautious optimism.

Trent Richardson: (Knee) Back to Work
Richardson (left knee) got some work in with the Browns' first-team offense in his return to practice Monday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Coach Pat Shurmur has said that he's "very optimistic" that Richardson, who reportedly looked good/healthy Monday, will play against the Eagles in Sunday's season opener, but that figures to hinge on how well the rookie back's knee responds to the work he got in Monday and then will get as the week progresses. Once Richardson gets the green light to play, the team doesn't plan to ease him back in. "If he's ready to go, he will be our starter," said Shurmur.

Trent Richardson: (Knee) Returns to Practice
Richardson (knee) returned to practice Monday, Cleveland Plain Dealer writer Mary Kay Cabot reports.
Analysis: Richardson's presence on the field Monday is a great sign, though it remains to be seen how fully he'll work in his return to practice. Initially, he was spotted working in individual drills, while sporting a sleeve on his scoped knee. Assuming no setbacks with his knee, optimism remains with regards to Richardson's status for Sunday's regular season opener against the Eagles.

Richardson (knee) appears to be on track to play in the Browns' season opener against the Eagles, the Canton Repository reports. "He's very close," coach Pat Shurmur said of Richardson, who is recovering from an Aug. 12 knee scope. "He's done a lot behind the scenes of course that I haven't talked about."
Analysis: We should get a better read of how realistic Richardson's chances of playing in Week 1 are once practice heats up in the coming days. Shurmur has noted that if Richardson plays, he'll be turned loose fully. "If he plays," Shurmur said, "he will be ready to go, and he will play the whole game." If the Browns end up deciding to play it safe with Richardson in Week 1, which can't be ruled out as a possibility, Montario Hardesty is still viewed as the team's No. 2 back, though Brandon Jackson would be in the mix for touches as well.

Richardson (knee) is expected to play the whole game if he's cleared for Week 1, ESPN Cleveland reports.
Analysis: The news seems to indicate that the Browns don't want to insert Richardson back into action in Week 1 unless he's at or close to 100 percent. Coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert said they were "very optimistic" about a Richardson return, but it could just be posturing. We'll know more about Richardson's recovery in the days leading up to the game, but on a positive note, it appears owners won't have to worry about Richardson sharing carries with Montario Hardesty, unlike Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart.

Trent Richardson: (Knee) Close To Practicing
Richardson (knee) is "very close" to practicing, Cleveland Plain Dealer writer Mary Kay Cabot reports.
Analysis: Richardson is the sort of player who probably only needs a few limited practices to be ready for game day, so we're not worried at this point at this absence from practice. The midpoint of the upcoming week is the significant point in the Richardson timeline. He does, in any case, remain questionable on a technical basis.

Trent Richardson: (Knee) Making Progress
Coach Pat Shurmur noted Sunday that Richardson is making progress in his (knee) rehab and will be back on the field "soon," the Browns' official site reports.
Analysis: While Shurmur didn't specify how soon, the Browns coach is "very optimistic" that Richardson will play in the team's season opener Sept. 9 against Philadelphia, ESPN.com reports. That's great news, though it comes with the caveat that the Browns are likely to limit Richardson's workload out of the gate before they turn him loose fully. That reality figures to result in added touches early on for Montario Hardesty and/or Brandon Jackson, but once Richardson is totally up to speed, we expect the Cleveland offense to run through him, literally.

Trent Richardson: Likely Available For Week 1
Richardson, who had his knee scoped on August 9, is expected to play in the Browns' regular-season opener against the Eagles, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though Richardson's recovery is going well enough for this nugget to be out there, his injury remains of some short-term concern, as the Browns are likely to limit his workload out of the gate. As a result, Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson maintain some utility as insurance for the highly talented rookie back.

Trent Richardson: Ahead of Schedule?
Coach Pat Shurmur noted Sunday that Richardson has made good progress and might be ahead of schedule in his rehab from a left knee scope, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Trent Richardson: Scope a Success
As expected, Richardson underwent arthroscopic surgery Thursday to remove a "loose particle" that was irritating his left knee, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Not surprisingly, the Browns described the minor surgery as "successful" and "routine" and the team remains hopeful the the rookie back will be able to suit up in Week 1. In a statement issued Thursday, coach Pat Shurmur said that "Trent Richardson underwent a successful routine arthroscopic procedure today on his left knee. It was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla. We anticipate that Trent will make a speedy recovery, and we are hopeful that he will be ready for our Week One game against Philadelphia." While the timing of the procedure is less than ideal, it doesn't seem like Richardson's long-term prospects are in any peril here. What could be impacted, however, is his early season workload, which had previously been projected as heavy.

Trent Richardson: Knee Scope Confirmed
It has been confirmed that Richardson will undergo arthroscopic surgery Thursday to have a "tiny piece of loose cartilage" removed from his sore left knee, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Assuming no surprises, this is viewed as a very minor scope that may only keep Richardson out for about two-to-three weeks. With that timetable in mind, Browns coach Pat Shurmur said that the team is still hoping that Richardson will be back in time for the team's regular season opener Sept. 9 against the Eagles, but that's certainly not a lock. If he does suit up as hoped, there exists the possibility that Richardson could be eased back into action, which creates an opportunity out of the gate for his backups. Montario Hardesty is currently listed as the Browns' No. 2 RB, followed by Brandon Jackson.

Trent Richardson: Should be Ready for Week 1
Though it has been reported that Richardson is tentatively scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery Thursday to remove a "hang nail particle" of loose cartilage in his left knee, the rookie back is expected to be available before the Browns' regular-season opener, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: It sounds all but official that Richardson is getting the scope, but it appears as though he has a shot to be ready for Week 1, though whether or not that would entail him being limited at all early on, remains to be seen. In any case, there's now a red flag (not a huge one just yet) attached to Richardson's name, while his backups, Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson (and how their anticipated roles shake out) are now worth tracking closely in the coming weeks.

Richardson's visit to Dr. James Andrews on Thursday reportedly includes a tentatively scheduled arthroscopic surgery to clean up a loose particle of cartilage in the running back's left knee, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports.
Analysis: Mort, normally a reliable source, goes on to add that the operation would be considered a proactive and minor procedure. The report also notes that the issue involves a "hang nail particle" that is not related to the meniscus repair that Richardson had done on the same knee in February. Assuming the scope -- however minor -- takes place, Richardson's Week 1 availability could be in some peril.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer speculates that Richardson, who will visit orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Thursday to have his left knee assessed, will need a minor cleanup on the knee.
Analysis: Richardson had his torn meniscus repaired Feb. 3, but he has experienced some swelling since then. While a scope (and mind you, we are still in the purely speculative stages here) would not necessarily be catastrophic with regards to Richardson 's long-term upside, the timing is not great, with Week 1 just a month away. Suddenly, the Montario Hardesty/Brandon Jackson job battle has taken on new importance, with Hardesty currently listed as the Browns' No. 2 back on the team's initial depth chart.

Analysis: Richardson had surgery Feb. 3 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The report says if he has another procedure, it will be minor. However, any knee surgery could cause him to miss games and becomes a major worry for his fantasy value. Watch his status closely the next few weeks.

If Richardson (knee) can't play Friday night, Montario Hardesty will start at running back for the Browns, with Brandon Jackson serving as the team's top backup, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Richardson underwent an MRI on his sore left knee Tuesday and though his injury is not believed to be serious, coach Pat Shurmur noted that Richardson's preseason debut might be delayed at least until Aug. 16 against Green Bay. Meanwhile, we'll have to see how the Hardesty/Jackson scenario plays out, as the winner of that job battle will have late-round dart value, given that the Browns are likely to be a run-heavy team (featuring a heavy dosage of Richardson, assuming his health) this season.

Trent Richardson: Slowed by Knee Soreness
Richardson's (knee) status for the Browns' preseason opener Friday is now in question, ESPN.com reports. "We're evaluating it," coach Pat Shurmur said of the running back's left knee. "There's a chance he won't play on Friday. I'm always concerned about injuries, but at this point we'll just find out what it is. He's been practicing well. Just a little sore."
Analysis: Richardson missed Tuesday's practice with knee soreness and while there doesn't seem to be any panic in the air, it's worth noting that we are talking about the same knee that Richardson had scoped to repair a torn meniscus following his final season at Alabama.

Analysis: The report adds that there is a chance that Richardson, who was wearing a sleeve on his left leg Tuesday, won't play in Friday's preseason opener. So far this doesn't sound like an ominous injury, though given the hype surrounding Richardson -- and how high we have seen him going in early drafts -- this is certainly a situation worth closely monitoring in the coming days.

Analysis: This of course is no breaking news story and the Richardson hype machine hardly needs any more fuel, but Ulrich drew a connection to the coaching staff and their past running backs which is interesting supplementary information for the overwhelming love the rookie is getting this preseason. Head coach Pat Shurmur leaned heavily on Steven Jackson in St. Louis, and new offensive coordinator Brad Childress set the Adrian Peterson track on repeat in his time in Minnesota. Analysis: This isn't big news concerning Richardson, as the Browns' top pick is sure to be the feature guy, but it's worth noting Shurmur's intentions to utilize all his talent. It wouldn't be too wise of the Browns to run Richardson into the ground in his first season in the league, so owners anticipating a Maurice Jones-Drew-like 386 touches might want to scale back expectations a little. He still projects as a low-end RB1, or a high-end RB2 regardless.

Richardson will be a workhorse
Browns coach Pat Shurmur has let it be known that Trent Richardson will receive "plenty of reps" this season. Shurmur confirmed Richardson's lead back status on Thursday, stating it's "fair to say" the rookie has earned the starting job. Richardson will need to rest at some point, but it remains to be seen who secures the primary back-up role between Brandon Jackson or Montario Hardesty.
Analysis: Trent Richardson will also be a lock to get selected early in fantasy drafts. Though he is a rookie, expectations will be high on him to perform both on the field and in fantasy land. There are still many questions for the Browns 30th ranked scoring offense to answer, so choosing Richardson as your No. 1 RB does carry some risk. Still, his overall production will be enough to reward his draft status.

Trent Richardson: (Knee) Ready to Go
Coach Pat Shurmur said that Richardson will participate fully in the Browns' rookie minicamp -- which starts Friday -- despite his minor offseason knee scope, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Given how aggressive the Browns were in acquiring Richardson in April's draft, it's pretty clear that the team isn't worried about the rookie's long-term health. From all indications, the Browns don't plan to be shy about deploying Richardson extensively out of the gate. Browns' team president Mike Holmgren stated at his post-draft press conference that Richardson, "is an excellent pass receiver...a very, very good blocker...and there is no reason he can't do the same for us (Cleveland)" when comparing him to former Seattle great Shaun Alexander.
Analysis: Lofty praise for a player who has yet to take a snap in the NFL, but as the number three overall pick who is going to the league's 30th-ranked scoring team from 2011, the optimism is to be expected. If Richardson can be half as productive as a runner in his rookie year as Alexander was in his prime, and also contribute in the passing game, he will be worthy of an early round selection in fantasy drafts this summer.
