Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland admits he went against his own beliefs when they drafted QB Ryan Tannehill eighth overall in the 2012 draft, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Analysis: Tannehill doesn't believe in taking a college quarterback with less that 30 starts on his resume, Tannehill had 20. That being said, Ireland is expecting a big jump in Tannehill's progress this season as he now has more than those 30 starts on his resume, plus a big time receiver is likely to be added in free agency. There will be plenty of pressure on Tannehill this season to perform up to his lofty draft expectations.

Tannehill was 20/35 for 235 yards in Sunday's shutout loss to New England.
Analysis: Tannehill had his ups and downs in his rookie season. He certainly didn't have the kind of campaign that Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, or Russell Wilson had, but he has given the Dolphins hope that they have their franchise QB. Would certainly help Tannehill next season and in the future if Miami were to bolster their receiving corps a bit.

Tannehill completed 13-of-25 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Bills. He also added 44 rushing yards on six carries.
Analysis: Tannehill's two touchdown passes were to Reggie Bush, who led the Dolphins in receiving yards Sunday. Tannehill connected with only five receivers on the day, but didn't throw an interception for the fourth straight contest. Up next is a Week 17 trip to Foxboro to take on a Patriots' defense that has struggled against the pass this season.

In his "Week 16 Sleepers" report, Adam Rank notes Tannehill "is fresh off a season-high 22 fantasy points against the Jags. He's had at least 12 fantasy points in four straight." FULL SLEEPERS REPORT

Tannehill completed 22-of-28 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Jaguars. He also added 52 rushing yards on eight carries but lost a fumble.
Analysis: A very impressive performance for Tannehill, despite the lost fumble. He connected with eight different receivers, throwing touchdowns to Anthony Fasano and Jorvorskie Lane, while missing starting wideout Davone Bess, who was out with a back injury. While he has gone three straight games without topping 225 passing yards, Tannehill hasn't thrown a pick over that span. He'll look to continue his development in Week 16 against the Bills.

Tannehill completed 17-of-33 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the 49ers. He also added 25 rushing yards on three carries.
Analysis: Not a great game for Tannehill, although he didn't turn the ball over against a very good defense. However, Tannehill just hasn't put up the type of numbers that should keep him relevant in most fantasy leagues, failing to reach 200 passing yards in three of the past four games (and six overall this season). He should have an easier time next week at home against the Jaguars, but a big breakout game surely shouldn't be expected.

Tannehill completed 13-of-29 passes for 186 yards Sunday against the Patriots. He also had five carries for 19 yards and a rushing touchdown.
Analysis: Tannehill struggled to consistently connect with his favorite targets, hitting Davone Bess only once on six passes and Brian Hartline five times on 10 attempts. While Tannehill has shown some decent development over the course of the season, he's simply not there from a fantasy perspective. He's only thrown for multiple touchdowns once, Week 6 against the Rams, and he's thrown for only three since that game. It won't get any easier next week on the road against a very strong 49ers' defense.

Analysis: Tannehill led the Dolphins on a game-winning drive, which ended on Dan Carpenters' 43-yard field goal as time expired to give the Dolphins the win. Tannehill's favorite target Sunday was Davone Bess, who caught seven passes for 129 yards while usual-favorite Brian Hartline was held to 17 yards on two receptions. Up next is a Patriots' defense that is ranked near the bottom of the league against the pass this season.

Analysis: Tannehill had thrown 107 straight passes without a pick, but then threw three in this game. Analysis: For his part, Tannehill -- who wore a brace and compression sleeve over his left knee at practice Thursday and has been receiving treatment several times a day -- stopped short of saying definitively that he will play this weekend. Analysis: That said, Matt Moore took snaps with the starting offense in team drills, with the report suggesting that Tannehill seemed slower in his drop-backs than usual Wednesday. The fact that he is practicing at all (albeit in a limited fashion) is a good sign, but Tannehill's availability for Sunday's game against the Colts presumably hinges on how well he responds to treatment this week and how he looks by the time Friday's final practice of the week rolls around.

The Dolphins are worried about the amount of passes that Tannehill has tipped at the line of scrimmage, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Analysis: Tannehill is 6-foot-4, so he certainly is tall enough to be able to avoid this problem, but he holds the ball at chest level while diagnosing a play. He then throws at shoulder level, which actually makes his throws seem like they are coming from a shorter quarterback. Ryan Tannehill: Named Dolphins' Starter
Coach Joe Philbin has announced that Tannehill has been named the Dolphins' starting quarterback to start the season, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly.
Analysis: It's a job that Tannehill was destined to have from the moment that the Dolphins selected him eighth overall this past April. Still, it took an injury to veteran David Garrard to accelerate the process. Tannehill possesses long-term potential due to his combination of athleticism, arm strength and intelligence, but the usual rookie growing pains, plus an uninspiring collection of wideouts to throw to out of the gate probably limit his short-term upside.

Tannehill was working with the first unit during the walk through Sunday, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly.
Analysis: This might not mean much of anything but it's worth noting. Tannehill hasn't impressed with his performance to date, no one else has either, but he does have command in the huddle and complete grasp of the playbook, and that may be enough for the coaching staff to name him the starting QB come Week One.

Tannehill completed 11-of-23 passes for 100 yards against Carolina on Friday.
Analysis: In his first preseason start, Tannehill did poorly at the beginning of the game but managed to make a few things happen later. Still, it's a very uneven effort at best. The Miami quarterback race is still very unclear.

Ryan Tannehill: Starting Friday
Tannehill will start Friday's preseason game against the Panthers, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: Tannehill played well in his professional debut last week, and the Dolphins are comfortable enough with his progress to give him a shot as the starter Friday. This does not guarantee that Tannehill will start the season opener, but it does put him in the lead to be behind center in Week 1.

Tannehill may start the second pre-season game versus Carolina on Friday, according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.
Analysis: This certainly would not have happened without the injury to David Garrard. The Dolphins may want to figure out in short order if Tannehill can handle the starting job from day one. The next two weeks both in the games and practice will go a long way towards letting the coaching staff know in which direction they should go.

With Tannehill's performance Friday the push is going to be on for him to start from Week One, according to the Miami Herald.
Analysis: Tannehill already knows the offense better than Matt Moore having played in it last season, and if he is going to be even or outplay Moore during the pre-season, than there might not be a reason to have him wait until mid-season to start. David Garrard almsot certainly would've opened the season as the starter because he looked like the best QB in camp whereas Moore has yet to look better than Tannehill.

Tannehill was 14-of-21 for 167 yards and a touchdown in his NFL debut in Friday's preseason loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Tannehill was just 3-of-7 in the first half and most of his production came against second- and third-string defensive players, but he still was impressive. He'll battle Matt Moore now for the starting job with David Garrard set to miss two to four weeks after knee surgery.

Tannehill was Miami's most effective quarterback in Saturday morning's practice, Miami Herald writer Armando Salguero reports.
Analysis: This isn't significant news as far as the Miami quarterback competition goes -- Matt Moore or David Garrard is still very likely to start for the Dolphins in Week 1. It is nice, though, to confirm that Tannehill is at least sometimes giving glimpses of the big potential he showed in college. The problem is that Tannehill is still inexperienced at quarterback due to his two-plus years at receiver at Texas A&M, and he has a reliable history at this point of looking spectacular one minute and all over the place the next. Basically, those keeping an eye on Tannehill need to keep in mind that he has bigger roadblocks ahead of him than most quarterbacks, and he's a project that could require more work than the typical top-10 pick at quarterback.

Tannehill could open the season as the second quarterback, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Analysis: Tannehill obviously would have to play very well during camp and during the pre-season for this scenario to take place. If this were to happen, the Dolphins could make whomever loses the starting job out of David Garrard and Matt Moore available for trade.

Tannehill is impressing receivers with speed and accuracy of his passes, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Analysis: Davone Bess and Legedu Naanee were the duo handing out the praises. Good to see that Tannehill came into camp sharp after signing two days in. Tannehill still can't practice in pads until Wednesday (CBA) but as of now looks to be what the Dolphins envisioned when they drafted him in the first round this past April.

Tannehill agreed to a four-year contract with the Dolphins on Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: Tannehill will now report to camp, albeit without the fully guaranteed contract he was desiring. Tannehill will compete with David Garrard and Matt Moore for the starting job, though his inexperience makes it much more likely he will settle into a backup role once the season starts. The Tannehill signing leaves Justin Blackmon of the Jaguars and Kendall Wright of the Titans as the only unsigned first-round picks of the 2012 draft.

Tannehill still unsigned, not at camp, according to the Dolphins web site.
Analysis: Negotiations are still ongoing for the 8th overall pick in the 2012 draft. Doesn't really make much sense that the Dolphins haven't signed him yet seeing as though almost all of the other first round picks have signed. On the one hand this doesn't matter much as Tannehill was not on the running to start at QB to open the season, but every practice missed could push back his eventual start date, and if he were to hold out deep into camp well than you can just write off his rookie season.

Tannehill isn't currently in the running for the Dolphins' starting job, NFL.com reports.
Analysis: The report notes that unless things change in a hurry -- or injuries occur -- Tannehill will likely begin the season as the Dolphins' No. 3 quarterback. Still, after being selected eighth overall this past April, Tannehill is viewed as the team's QB of the future, but he won't be pressed into the starting job before he is ready, with experienced options David Garrard and Matt Moore on hand.

Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin said Friday that Tannehill will be given the same opportunity to win the starting quarterback job as Matt Moore and David Garrard, the Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: While this isn't big news, Tannehill estimates that he already knows "80 to 85 percent" of the team's playbook, as he was in new offensive coordinator Mike Sherman's offense at Texas A&M. Despite his familiarity with the offense, Philbin said that the decision will come down to "the decision-making, the accuracy, the playmaking ability."

Ryan Tannehill: Taken By Dolphins
The Dolphins selected Tannehill in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft, eighth overall.
Analysis: After missing out on Peyton Manning, Robert Griffin and Matt Flynn, the Dolphins finally grab hold of a player with indications of franchise quarterback potential. Tannehill's development was stunted by a two-year assignment at wide receiver, but he has a lot of long-term potential thanks to his combination of athleticism, arm strength and intelligence. It wouldn't surprise if he opens his career as a backup, however.
