Gronkowski questionable
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (arm) returned to practice Friday. Still, NFL.com's Albert Breer reported that Gronk is expected to sit out this week against the San Francisco 49ers. Gronkowski officially is questionable. FULL INJURY REPORT
Analysis: Aaron Hernandez should again be a top red-zone target for Tom Brady this week. Consider him a viable start despite the tough matchup.

49ers defense stingy to opposing RBs
In his Week 14 "Like/Dislike" analysis, Adam Rank notes, "The 49ers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season, and just two rush touchdowns in their last 16 home games." READ: LIKE/DISLIKE
Analysis: Reggie Bush has had less than 85 scrimmage yards in 10 consecutive games. Bush's prospects of breaking the trend don't bode well against the stout 49ers defense.

49ers defense stingy to opposing RBs
In his Week 14 "Start 'Em, Sit 'Em" analysis, Michael Fabiano notes that since 2011, the 49ers defense "has allowed an average of 75 rushing yards, 6.66 fantasy points and no touchdowns to runners the week after a loss. San Francisco lost last week, so Bush is likely to lose now." FULL START 'EM, SIT 'EM
Analysis: Bush has had just one good stat line in recent weeks, and an upcoming matchup against the Niners is not favorable.

49ers defense stingy to opposing RBs
In his Week 13 "Start 'Em, Sit 'Em" analysis, Michael Fabiano notes the 49ers defense "has allowed the fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs on the road in 2012." FULL START 'EM, SIT 'EM
Analysis: Although Jackson posted 18.70 points against this unit in Week 10, don't expect him to pull it off twice against an elite defense.

49ers will face tougher test in Week 12
Aldon Smith finished with 5.5 sacks of Bears quarterback Jason Campbell, putting up an all-time defensive stat line in a 32-7 victory at Candlestick Park. No player's ever had more sacks on the "Monday Night Football" stage. FULL REPORT
Analysis: Smith will face a far better offense next week against Drew Brees and the surging Saints in what could be a higher-scoring affair.

Monday night to be battle of the backups
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Monday morning that Smith was unable to gain clearance from a neurologist, according to sources, meaning Colin Kaepernick will start against Bears backup Jason Campbell, filling in for a concussed Jay Cutler. FULL REPORT
Analysis: In what should be titled the "backup bowl," expect both of these elite defenses to take center stage on Monday night. While you probably didn't have better options, don't expect much from your fantasy players in what could be a low-scoring game.

49ers stout vs. run
In his Week 11 "Like/Dislike" analysis, Adam Rank notes, "You can't sit Bears running back Matt Forte, but this is a reason to temper your expectations. Forte had just 3.60 fantasy points against the Texans (that happened), which snapped a four-game streak with at least 10 fantasy points." FULL LIKE/DISLIKE
Analysis: Forte doesn't score many touchdowns, but he's had just two in his last 11 road games. Plus the matchup is lousy, as the 49ers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs this year.

49ers proving as advertised
In his "Nine Random Things" Report, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport notes that in "four of the past five games, they've (49ers) allowed fewer than six points...It's no surprise that halfway through the season, they are ranked No. 1 in total defense." READ: NINE RANDOM THINGS
Analysis: This stout defensive unit could make five out six in Week 10 when they face a Rams offense scoring an average of just 17.1 points per game.

Fitzgerald has previous success vs. 49ers
In his Week 8 Like/Dislike analysis, fantasy expert Adam Rank believes Fitzgerald is a better play than the matchup would dictate. "Don't be so quick to bench Larry Fitzgerald because of the matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Fitzgerald had 10 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns in two games against the 49ers last year." READ: LIKE/DISLIKE
Analysis: The 49ers have allowed just six TD passes this season, while John Skelton has thrown just one in two games started. Against a similarly stout Seattle defense, Skelton was only able to total 149 passing yards and a pick. Consider Fitzgerald a high-risk, high-reward play this week.

Seahawks lack scoring potential
In his Week 7 X-factors report, NFL.com's Albert Breer believes homefield advantage will play in the 49ers' favor on Thursday Night Football, noting that "in this season's first five Thursday night games, road teams are 1-4." READ: X-FACTORS
Analysis: Though the Seahawks are coming off an emotional win, start the Niners' defense with confidence. Seattle is 23rd in scoring offense, averaging just 18 points per game.

49ers defense stingy to opposing RBs
Fantasy expert Adam Rank believes "C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson are two players to avoid this week going against the San Francisco 49ers, who have allowed the fewest points to fantasy running backs." FULL LIKE/DISLIKE REPORT
Analysis: Neither back was able to shine in their first game back from injuries last week, totaling just 7.70 fantasy points between the two of them. Though fantasy owners might be forced to roll the dice because of the bye week, you could do worse.

In his NFL Quarterly Report, NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah believes the 49ers are favorites to earn a trip to the Super Bowl because "the defense is loaded across the board." FULL QUARTERLY REPORT

49ers return to form
The 49ers returned to dominance in Week 4 after shutting out the New York Jets.
Analysis: After a slow start to the season, the 49ers racked up 27 fantasy points. Their success could continue in Week 5 when they host the Buffalo Bills. For those in IDP leagues, NaVarro Bowman continues to be a good source of tackles.

Harbaugh "happiest guy in the world"
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters he's "the happiest guy in the world" thanks to his defense's dominant start to training camp. Even though the Niners offense hasn't had a lot of success in practices so far, Harbaugh realizes that opposing offenses won't be having a lot of fun, either.
Analysis: San Francisco's defense was the highest-scoring fantasy unit last season and it's a good bet that they'll be hanging around the top of the pile again this season. Expect them to be one of the first defenses off the board.
