Brees completed 29-of-43 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns against one interception in Sunday's loss to Carolina. He also became the first player in NFL history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in back-to-back seasons, finishing with 5,177 yards and 43 touchdowns on the year.
Analysis: Brees finished 2012 on an absolute tear, throwing for more than 300 yards in each of his final five games and 11 touchdowns over the final three weeks. He had his struggles in a tumultuous season without head coach Sean Payton, namely 19 interceptions, but finished the year on top of the league in passing yardage and touchdown passes once again. Brees has clearly cemented himself as one of the elite options in fantasy and he should be primed for another big performance next year with nearly all of his offensive weapons returning.

Brees completed 37-of-53 passes for a whopping 446 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's win over Dallas.
Analysis: Brees was simply on fire Sunday and has provided fantasy owners a huge lift these last two weeks after suffering through a mini-slump the latter part of the season. Most impressively about Brees' day was the fact that he did not throw an interception for the second consecutive week, despite dropping back to pass a huge 53 times. Next up is a Panthers' defense that has played well of late, but if you're still alive in the fantasy playoffs, you're not benching Brees.

Brees completed 26-of-39 passes for 307 yards and four touchdowns Sunday against the Buccaneers. He also added 11 rushing yards on one carry.
Analysis: Brees torched the Buccaneers' 32nd-ranked defense against the pass, throwing touchdown passes to David Thomas, Darren Sproles, Lance Moore and Joseph Morgan, all before the fourth quarter. Fantasy owners who were able to advance despite a 1:7 TD:INT ratio for Brees over the past two weeks were surely celebrating his turnaround Sunday. Up next is a Cowboys' defense ranked in the top-10 against the pass this season but had picked off only six passes heading into Week 15.

Brees completed 26-of-43 passes for 354 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions Sunday against the Giants.
Analysis: Brees connected with eight different receivers, while breaking the 300-yard mark for the second consecutive week. Unfortunately, Brees isn't finding the end zone as frequently as fantasy owners need him to, passing for only one in the last two games while throwing seven interceptions. The good news is that he's got a favorable matchup in Week 15 against a Bucs' defense ranked at the bottom of the league against the pass this season.

As Daniel Jeremiah notes in his "Who Has the Edge?" report, "Prior to the debacle against Atlanta, Brees had been playing at a very high level. In the previous four games, he tossed 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions." READ: WHO HAS THE EDGE?
Analysis: The Giants' pass rush could make things very difficult for Brees, but expect a bounce-back performance from the veteran. Aside from last week's performance, Brees had not scored less than 14.72 points this season.

Brees completed 28-of-50 passes for 341, but had five interceptions in Thursday's loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Brees failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time in 54 games, snapping his NFL record. The Saints offense looked solid in stretches, but for the most part was off all night. Brees missed throws he would normally make (as evidenced by the five picks) and never looked comfortable Thursday. A short week after a physical game with against the 49ers can probably attribute to a lot of that, but Brees should welcome the extended week before traveling to face off against the Giants.

In his "Thursday Night Thriller" analysis, Bucky Brooks notes, "the teams that have been able to contain New Orleans have focused on stopping the Saints' top three threats: Graham, Colston and Sproles. Analysis: If the Falcons are successful in this scenario, it could mean a good day for wideout Lance Moore, who has scored double-digit fantasy points in two of his last three road contests. That said, owners shouldn't shy away from starting the Saints top threats.

Brees threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns, but was also sacked five times and threw two interceptions in Sunday's loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Brees suffered through one of his poorer outings this season as both of his interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Still, from a fantasy perspective, the results weren't all bad given he was facing one of the toughest defenses in the league and still managed to toss three touchdowns. Brees will face Atlanta on Thursday, a team he shredded to the tune of three touchdowns and nearly 300 yards passing a mere two weeks ago.

Brees completed 20-of-27 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns Sunday against the Raiders.
Analysis: Brees has thrown for multiple touchdowns in all but one game this season, including six in the last two games. One interesting note is that he's gone four straight contests with fewer than 300 yards after passing that mark in five of the first six games this year. He's got a tough matchup coming up next week against a 49ers' defense ranked in the top five against the pass this year but there is no way you're sitting him with the Saints offense on fire right now.

Saints success based on running game
In his "All-22" analysis, NFL.com's Bucky Brooks notes "Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, but the New Orleans Saints are better when the running game is the foundation of their offensive game plan. after watching the Saints get back on track over the past two weeks behind a diverse running game, I'm convinced that is the key to the offense's success." Brees completed 31-of-49 passes for 325 yards with two touchdowns, one on a quarterback sneak, and two interceptions in Sunday's loss to Carolina.
Analysis: Through two games, things have not exactly been Brees-y for the Saints' record-setting quarterback. All puns aside, Brees dropped back a whopping 49 times, and while he completed a decent 63% of his passes, he averaged a mere 6.6 yards per pass attempt and threw another two interceptions. Obviously it is too early to panic, but if Brees cannot put up big numbers next week against a Chiefs defense that has been shredded through the air in its first two games, it may be time to question whether the loss of head coach Sean Payton is a bigger deal than the Saints were willing to initially admit.

Brees gained additional leverage in his ongoing contract negotiations with the Saints as an arbitrator ruled in his favor as to how much the Saints would have to pay Brees if they applied the franchise tag to him again in 2013, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Analysis: While the nitty-gritty details of the arbitration decision are not particularly important, the gist of the ruling is that if the Saints cannot reach a long-term deal with Brees by July 16, they would be forced to pay him a whopping amount if they apply the franchise tag to him again next season. As a result, the Saints may not be able to play hardball with Brees with the deadline to sign him long-term looming, and a rapid conclusion to the parties' protracted negotiations may be coming soon.

Or he could also decide to sit out all or some of next season. Brees, however, dismissed that notion, stating that he "would never sit out a football season." We're not sure we'd overreact (yet) to what this all means to Brees for 2012, but it's also worth noting there are a lot of negative issues around this team right now, the two main ones for Brees being that he's reportedly livid with the franchise tag, and now his offensive genius of a coach (unless this can get successfully appealed, which seems to be a long shot) won't be running the show next season.

Analysis: Brees and the Saints still can negotiate a long-term deal, but if one is not reached by July 15 then Brees must either sign the franchise-tag deal or hold out. Though he is angry now, it is a near certainty that Brees will reach an agreement with New Orleans before that deadline after all parties cool down. The only real question is whether the team will be able to reach a long-term deal with the franchise quarterback, but that again is still the most likely scenario.

Drew Brees: Receives Franchise Tag
The Saints placed the franchise tag on Brees on Saturday, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reports.
Analysis: The move makes it seem likely that guard Carl Nicks will leave in free agency, and it will also make it difficult to keep both Marques Colston and Robert Meachem.

Drew Brees: Not Close to Deal With Saints
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Brees and the Saints remain "far apart" in contract negotiations with the March 5 deadline to place the franchise tag on unrestricted free agents looming.
Analysis: The Saints would very much like to get a deal done ASAP so that they can save the franchise tag for one of their other high-profile free agents. In the opinion of Jeff Duncan, beat writer for the team, Brees' agent likely planted the story to create a sense of urgency by the Saints' management and the parties do not actually remain that far apart in negotiations.

Brees, who is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, remains optimistic that he will reach a deal with New Orleans, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Analysis: While talks between the parties are progressing slowly, really the only question is whether the Saints will reach a deal with Brees with or without using the franchise tag. Ideally, a deal will be reached without using the tag so that it may potentially be saved for someone such as Carl Nicks or Marques Colston, who are at more of a risk of moving on than Brees, who will almost certainly finish his career in New Orleans.

Brees completed 40-of-60 passes for 462 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, but the Saints were ousted from the playoffs by the 49ers on Saturday.
Analysis: Brees' numbers were obviously gaudy, but he will be haunted by a couple of costly mistakes. Still, he finished the year breaking the NFL passing yardage record and likely leading numerous owners to fantasy glory. Brees and the Saints failed to work out an extension during the season, meaning he is a free agent, but the team will almost certainly use the franchise tag on him in the unlikely event the two sides are unable to hammer out a deal. We fully expect Brees to be in New Orleans next year and fantasy owners can likely expect another year of fireworks from one of the game's elite quarterbacks.

Brees exploded in Saturday's playoff win against Detroit, completing 33-of-43 passes for a whopping 466 yards and three touchdowns.
Analysis: Brees carved up the Lions' secondary as the Saints' offense is peaking at the ideal time. The 49ers pose a stiff defensive test in the Divisional Round but with an expected forecast around 60 degrees and sunny in San Francisco, it would be foolhardy to bet against Brees right now.

Drew Brees: Expected To Start Sunday
Coach Sean Payton put to rest any speculation that the Saints would rest their starters, including Brees, when they face the Panthers on Sunday despite being a long shot to secure a first-round bye in the playoffs, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
Analysis: The Saints would need both to win and have San Francisco fall to 2-13 St. Louis to earn a bye in the NFL playoffs. Despite the unlikely sequence, Payton announced that the team plans to play "full speed ahead" with its starters Sunday. This is great news for fantasy owners still in the fantasy playoffs as the Panthers rank 20th against the pass and 21st against the run.

Drew Brees: Breaks Dan Marino's Record
In route to breaking Dan Marino's single season passing yardage record, Brees completed 23-of-39 passes for 307 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions Monday against the Falcons.
Analysis: The interceptions were his first in five games, but that can hardly take away from his performance tonight. The Saints' offense could not be stopped in the first half, and though they did slow down a bit in the second, Brees was able to cap off the night and break the 27-year old record with a nine-yard touchdown strike to Darren Sproles late in the fourth quarter. Those still playing in leagues need not worry about Brees resting in Week 17 either, as the Saints will still be playing for a shot at the No. 2 seed and first week bye if San Fran stumbles.

Brees was incredible on Sunday against Minnesota, completing 80% of his passes (32-of-40) for 213 yards and five touchdowns in basically three quarters of action.
Analysis: Brees was ruthlessly efficient against the sieve that is the Vikings' secondary, so much so that Chase Daniel came in for mop up duty with nearly 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Brees is a mere 304 yards away from Dan Marino's single-season passing record, a mark he should easily surpass as early as next week with two games to play. Needless to say, if you started Brees in this week, you are likely moving on to Championship Week (barring an extremely unfortunate series of events), where Brees will face Atlanta, against whom he threw for 322 yards with two touchdowns in the teams' previous meeting.

After a slow start, Brees finished 36-of-47 for 337 yards and two touchdowns Sunday in Tennessee.
Analysis: Brees has been on fire his past four games, firing for a combined 11 touchdowns with no interceptions. For fantasy owners, he is hitting his stride just at the right time and faces a Vikings' defense that ranks 26th against the pass. Start him with confidence.

Brees threw for three touchdowns and 342 yards Sunday against the Lions on 26-of-36 passing.
Analysis: Brees continues to dominate and pick apart opposing secondaries with ease. Other than Aaron Rodgers, no other quarterback is playing on his level this season. Every time it seemed the Lions were going to creep back into the game, Brees engineered an answer to keep the Saints rolling. He's on record pace in passing yards in 2011 and will likely be on many championship rosters this fantasy season.

Brees completed 24-of-38 passes for 363 yards and four touchdowns and added one rush for an eight-yard touchdown Monday against the Giants.
Analysis: Brees was masterful tonight as the Saints racked up nearly 600 total yards of offense against a Giants' squad that is in shambles right now. Jimmy Graham and Lance Moore both hauled in two touchdowns from Brees, as the Saints rolled. Dan Marino's single season passing record is in jeopardy again, as Brees will look to stay hot against a Lions' team that will likely be without Ndamukong Suh in Week 13.

Brees completed 30-of-43 passes for 322 yards and two touchdowns at Atlanta.
Analysis: After back-to-back weeks of sub-300 yards passing, Brees returned to form Sunday in a much needed way with the Saints' run game stalled. The Saints will be on bye in Week 11, so plan accordingly.

Brees completed 27-of-36 passes for 258 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's win against Tampa Bay. He even chipped in another 20 yards on one rush.
Analysis: Playing from ahead, the Saints actually had a fairly even split between rush plays and pass plays (36 throws v. 28 runs), by New Orleans' standards. Further, the 36 passes were Brees' second fewest attempts of the season and yardage total was Brees' lowest of the season. The Saints will likely be unable to run away from Atlanta next week so expect Brees to air it out more than this week against a team he threw for 667 yards and four touchdowns in two games last season.

Daniel suffers throwing hand injury
New Orleans Saints interim coach Joe Vitt announced Wednesday quarterback Chase Daniel has a hairline fracture and sprain on the thumb of his right throwing hand. The injury now leaves the Saints with only Luke McCown and Sean Canfield as the only two quarterbacks available for camp. The spotlight now becomes even brighter on Drew Brees' contract negotiations.
Analysis: Though Daniel was not going to be on anyone's fantasy radar, the injury is significant because it may force negotiations with Brees to speed up. Regardless of how much time he misses, Brees should still be considered an elite fantasy quarterback this season.
