Justin Blackmon: Suspended For First Four Games

Analysis: Blackmon got off to a slow start after a scorching preseason but showed flashes of potential throughout the year. The rookie ended 2012 on a high note with 251 yards and two touchdowns over his last three games. Giving consideration to the QB situation in Jacksonville (Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne), and Blackmon's 865-yard effort is impressive for a rookie receiver on a team with one other receiving threat in Cecil Shorts and a limited run game following the injury to Maurice Jones-Drew. Especially encouraging for the Jaguars has to be Blackmon staying out of trouble off the field after receiving his second DUI in June.

Blackmon could see increase in targets

In his Week 17 "Like/Dislike" analysis, Adam Rank notes, "Justin Blackmon has 58 receptions for 786 yards this season, both franchise rookie records. He has four receiving touchdowns, one behind club record holder Matt Jones (2005)." FULL LIKE/DISLIKE ANALYSIS

Analysis: With Cecil Shorts sidelined, expect Blackmon to see an increase in targets against a Titans defense which has allowed 29 passing scores this season.

Blackmon had seven catches on 12 targets for 79 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Patriots.

Analysis: Another good performance for Blackmon, who has developed a very good relationship with quarterback Chad Henne. Blackmon has been targeted at least 11 times in each of the last three weeks, averaging over 76 yards per game over that span. Next up is a Week 17 tilt against the Titans, a team that allowed 342 yards and three touchdowns to Aaron Rodgers on Sunday.

Blackmon had six catches on 11 targets for 93 yards Sunday against the Dolphins.

Analysis: Blackmon has been very busy as of late, recording 23 total targets in the last two games. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, he hasn't been able to do too much with them, accumulating only 150 receiving yards on 12 catches over that span. Up next is a Patriots' defense that has struggled against the pass this season, although it could be fighting for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Blackmon caught six passes for 57 yards during Sunday's loss to the Jets.

Analysis: Blackmon was targeted a team-high 12 times, hauling in half of those passes. His numbers lately have been more on par with this season averages, as he's gone for 62, nine and 57 yards in his last three games.

Jags battling injuries

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts (concussion) and running back Rashad Jennings (concussion) have been ruled out for Sunday's tilt against the Jets. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) also remains out. FULL INJURY ROUNDUP

Analysis: Montell Owens will carry the load against a Jets defense allowing an average of 137 yards per game and 12 touchdowns this season. Justin Blackmon might have a tougher day as the lone threat out wide. The Jets passing defense is allowing just 198 yards passing per game.

Blackmon will be covered "most of the time" by Antonio Cromartie on Sunday, Manish Menhta of the New York Daily News reports.

Analysis: Blackmon has already struggled to put together consistent performances and it won't get any easier for the rookie against Cromartie on Sunday. With the Jets coming in as the fourth-best team against the pass and Chad Henne's up-and-down performance, Blackmon's potential reward may not be worth the risk.

Analysis: Blackmon has scored in back-to-back weeks and will look to keep the streak alive against a Buffalo team that has been known to give up points in buckets.

Jags WRs thriving with Henne at the helm

In his Week 13 "Like/Dislike" analysis, Adam Rank notes, "Justin Blackmon has 12 receptions for 298 yards and two touchdowns in his last two games. In the last two weeks, he has the second-most receiving yards in the NFL." Analysis: Michael Fabiano points out in his Week 13 "Start 'Em, Sit 'Em" analysis "The Bills have given up 14 touchdowns to wideouts this season - that's tied for the seventh-most in the NFL."

Blackmon (groin) and Cecil Shorts, who returned to practice Friday, will both play Sunday against the Bills, according to coach Mike Mularkey, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Mularkey noted that the two wideouts took Thursday off as "precaution," after a physical practice on Wednesday, but both appear good to go for Sunday, while being officially listed as probable.

Analysis: The emergence of Chad Henne has been a boon for Blackmon and Shorts owners the last two weeks. With a matchup against the Bills in Week 13, their success could continue.

Blackmon caught five passes for 62 yards and one touchdown on six targets Sunday as the Jaguars beat the Titans, 24-19.

Analysis: Blackmon predictably came back down to Earth after his 236-yard effort last week, but the rookie still turned in a solid outing for the Jags. After being kept out of the end zone until Week 9, Blackmon now has a touchdown in back-to-back games and three on the season.

Gabbert, Robinson to IR

The Jaguars placed Gabbert on injured reserve Wednesday, citing the right forearm injury he suffered in Week 11 and the lingering left shoulder pain that sidetracked his season. The team also placed receiver Laurent Robinson on IR with concussion symptoms. FULL REPORT

Analysis: Fantasy owners can now trust in Chad Henne to be the starter moving forward. The same goes for the likes of Cecil Shorts. With Henne lighting it up last week, Justin Blackmon will deserve consideration as a starter depending on the matchup.

Blackmon's teammates, Blaine Gabbert and Laurent Robinson were both placed on IR on Wednesday.

Analysis: It's a big hit to the Jaguars, but a win-win situation for Blackmon from a fantasy perspective. The rookie wideout (who caught seven passes for 236 yards this past Sunday) will no longer have Robinson to contend with for targets, plus he displayed great chemistry with Chad Henne (the Jags' starter at QB going forward) in Week 11.

In his "Front Office View" analysis, Michael Lombardi notes, "With Chad Henne taking over for injured starter Blaine Gabbert, the Jaguars finally had a quarterback who was willing to make throws up the field. Analysis: With Henne getting the nod for the Jags next matchup against the Titans, another good performance could be on the horizon for both players. The Titans have allowed an average of 266 passing yards per game, along with 20 touchdowns compared to just nine interceptions.

Analysis: Henne's 354 yards and 4 touchdowns aided in producing the first game of note for rookie Justin Blackmon, who racked up 236 yards and a score in the game. With their best offensive effort of the season, expect Henne to remain at the helm.

Justin Blackmon: Monster Game Sunday

Blackmon caught seven passes on 13 targets for 236 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's overtime loss to the Texans.

Analysis: Even taking out Blackmon's 81-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, the rookie wideout still had six catches for 155 yards, most of which came from backup Chad Henne, who came on early for the injured Blaine Gabbert. It was by far his best game in the NFL, as he had 250 total yards heading into Sunday. If Gabbert is forced to miss any time, Blackmon's good chemistry with Chad Henne could continue.

Blackmon caught three passes for 25 yards during Thursday's loss to Indianapolis.

Analysis: Blackmon was essentially invisible Thursday until late in the fourth quarter, and it's hard to call the team's first-round pick anything but hugely disappointing through the team's first nine games so far. A week after seeing a team-high nine targets along with Laurent Robinson, Blackmon saw just five targets, good for fourth among Jacksonville's receiving options.

Blackmon had five catches on nine targets for 32 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Lions.

Analysis: The Jaguars' first round pick finally scored his first NFL touchdown, although he still hasn't recorded more than 67 yards in any game this season. Jacksonville's passing attack is really struggling this season and Blackmon hasn't been able to succeed despite that.

Coach Mike Mularkey said he didn't have a problem with Blackmon's effort Sunday after the rookie receiver's performance in the fourth quarter was questioned by CBS' Dan Dierdorf and Greg Gumbel, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: "I didn't see evidence of [not hustling]," Mularkey said. "I do look for that and that is not acceptable." Mularkey also added that Blackmon's effort when running route is fine, but he struggles when called upon in run protection. After a standout preseason, Blackmon has struggled mightily through his first seven NFL games to the tune of 18 receptions (on 45 targets) for 193 yards.

Blackmon caught four passes for 67 yards during Sunday's 24-15 loss to Green Bay.

Analysis: Blackmon started off hot, but disappeared as the game worn on. Blaine Gabbert looked for the rookie receiver four straight times on a potential game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter, but a combination of poor route running and miscommunications resulted in four incomplete passes on eight targets. Blackmon has yet to put it all together in a game, despite Sunday's effort being his best yet in an NFL game.

Gabbert suffers torn labrum

A team source told NFL.com and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that the Jaguars believe preliminary results from an MRI indicate starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert suffered a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder during Sunday's 26-23 loss to the Oakland Raiders. FULL STORY

Analysis: With MJD also looking like he might miss significant time, fantasy owners should consider the likes of Marcedes Lewis, Justin Blackmon and Laurent Robinson nothing more than waiver wire fodder.

Analysis: Coach Mike Mularkey spoke of wanting to get Blackmon more involved in the offense, but his four targets on the day aren't indicative of a high level of involvement. Even when thrown to, Blackmon and Blaine Gabbert (shoulder) -- or Chad Henne -- don't appear to be on the same page. Cecil Shorts has worked his way in as the Jags' top fantasy wideout option, but even he's a risky play.

Coach Mike Mularkey plans to get Blackmon more involved in the offense following the bye week, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Blackmon has been targeted frequently by Blaine Gabbert, but has made just 13 catches for 119 yards and no touchdowns through the first five games of the season. Blackmon has turned in his two best receiving performances of the season in the last two games (six catches for 48 yards and three catches for 40 yards), and will need to be an integral part of the offense if the Jags hope to get their passing attack out of the league's cellar.

Analysis: Blackmon tied Mike Thomas for a team-high eight targets, so Blaine Gabbert is looking to get the rookie receiver involved more, but the two aren't quite clicking like fantasy owners need them to be.

Analysis: It's not quite a breakout game for the rookie, but Sunday was Blackmon's best performance as a pro. The other good news is that, for the first time, Blackmon saw a team-high targets with 10.

Analysis: Blackmon has followed up his impressive preseason performance with two quiet games in a row. While the entire offense whimpered Sunday, Blackmon has yet to show he's capable of producing consistently when it counts.

Justin Blackmon: Quiet NFL Debut

Analysis: It was a quiet NFL debut for the rookie, but the Jacksonville passing game was still effective without Blackmon making a major contribution on the stat sheet. Blackmon had what would've been his first NFL score sail just over his outstretched fingertips as Blaine Gabbert overshot him. The good news for Blackmon owners is that Gabbert looked like a solid NFL QB on Sunday, and that can only mean good things for Blackmon's production going forward.

Analysis: Most importantly, Blackmon saw a team-high eight targets from Blaine Gabbert. The real fantasy implication of Gabbert's improvement this preseason is that Blackmon could be worth a late-round investment as it's clear he'll be in the top target in Jacksonville.

Analysis: It was a very strong debut for Blackmon, who played one half against the Saints. It's anyone's guess whether his effectiveness carries over to the regular season, but it generally appears that if the Jacksonville passing game produces, so will Blackmon.

Justin Blackmon: Should be Busy Friday

Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey said if Blackmon doesn't show fatigue, he could play the entire first half of Friday's preseason game against the Saints, Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: It looks like Blackmon will get a good amount of work after missing the team's first exhibition game. The 22-year-old wideout has reportedly been impressing at camp since signing Aug. 6, but he likely has a little ways to go before he's fully up-to-speed with the offense.

Blackmon's early padded practices with the Jaguars have been impressive despite his holdout though he still is not fully caught up on the offense, Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser reports.

Analysis: Blackmon didn't have a drop on the day -- good news for a WR corps that's been plagued by hands of stone dating back to last season -- and finished with two red zone touchdowns. Wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan said that while Blackmon still has learning to do, the group isn't slowing down their work to get him caught up to speed, but he's been impressed with the rookie's work so far despite Blackmon running out of steam toward the end of practice.

Justin Blackmon: To Practice in Pads Thursday

As expected Blackmon will miss Friday's preseason opener against the Giants, but his first full day of practice in pads will be Thursday, Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Coach Mike Mularkey said that he has been impressed with Blackmon's approach since his DUI and that the first-round pick will spend the next couple of days conditioning and working one-on-one with WR coach Jerry Sullivan. Blackmon is expected to participate in the team's second preseason game Aug. 17 against New Orleans.

Justin Blackmon: Agrees to Terms with Jags

Analysis: Blackmon is expected to sign his contract Monday evening or Tuesday, but being that the CBA does not permit him to put on pads until three days after the signing, he's not expected to play in the team's first preseason game Friday against the Giants. Coach Mike Mularkey and OC Bob Bratkowski have continued to reiterate how far behind Blackmon will be when he reports to camp, but it's imperative for the team's offensive success that he begins to build a rapport with sophomore QB Blaine Gabbert, whose development has reportedly been encouraging this offseason despite the absence of the team's first-round pick.

Blackmon and the Jags are reportedly "not very close" on a contract, Adam Schefter told SportsCenter Wednesday morning, adding the two sides "haven't made a lot of progress. They're not close to a deal."

Analysis: Jacksonville opened training camp last Thursday, so Blackmon is now almost a week behind where he ordinarily would have been. Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser says the hang-up stems from the amount of guaranteed money on the table, which the Jags may want to limit given Blackmon's recent DUI arrest. Either way, the team is a week into training camp with two top weapons in Blackmon and Maurice Jones-Drew absent, which undoubtedly isn't the way to help Blaine Gabbert and last season's 32nd-ranked passing offense.

Jags' Blackmon: Pleads Guilty to DUI

Blackmon pleaded guilty to an aggravated DUI charge stemming from his June 3 arrest in Stillwater, Okla., the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Judge Michael Spano ruled on a deferred sentence of one year, so Blackmon will escape jail time if he completes 50 hours of community service and pays a $500 fine. While Times-Union reporter Vito Stellino says Blackmon is expected to enter the substance abuse program, there's no word yet on possible penalties handed down from Roger Goodell. Blackmon also remains unsigned with the Jags looking to include offset language in his contract in the event of another off-the-field transgression. The team's training camp is set to open Thursday.

Blackmon may be late to training camp as the Jags look to include offset language in his contract to protect the organization should the rookie find himself with more off-the-field problems, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Blackmon's recent DUI arrest in the offseason has made his contract situation a bit stickier than the likes of Robert Griffin III or Andrew Luck. Offset language allows the Jags to forgo payment on the remainder of a player's guaranteed contract if he is cut and signs with another team up to the amount of the new contract. Jacksonville beat writer Tania Ganguli writes that a source close to negotiations doesn't think Blackmon's deal will be completed by training camp, which certainly isn't an ideal situation for a rookie WR looking to develop a rapport with a sophomore QB amidst the installation of head coach Mike Mularkey's new offense.

Blackmon said at his Wednesday press conference that he will give up drinking for the time being, Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Blackmon also said he does not have a drinking problem. GM Gene Smith expressed his disappointment with the situation, but added that he expects it to be an isolated incident and if Blackmon is to face punishment, it will come from the league office. On NFL Live Wednesday, Chris Mortensen of ESPN noted that it's unlikely Blackmon will be suspended by the NFL.

Blackmon will hold a press conference at 1:15 in Jacksonville to discuss his misdemeanor aggravated DUI arrest, the Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: Blackmon, who pleaded not guilty Monday, blew a 0.24 on his first BAC test and a 0.26 on his second. Blackmon is likely to be put in the NFL's substance-abuse program and is in danger of missing some time when the season begins. Blackmon also entered a not guilty plea Monday, though the district attorney in Payne County, Okla. has said he'll proceed to trial if Blackmon does not plead guilty.

Blackmon has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor aggravated DUI, with a hearing set for July 24, Vito Stellino of The Florida Times-Union reports.

Analysis: That's three days before the Jags' first training camp practice, with the report noting that Blackmon is unlikely to serve any jail time in the wake of Sunday's DUI. That said, it remains to be seen if he'll face any league or team discipline. There has been speculation that the incident could affect how the Jaguars approach wording the wideout's first NFL contract, however.

Justin Blackmon: Arrested For Aggravated DUI

Blackmon was arrested on an aggravated DUI charge Sunday (shortly after 3 A.M.) for recording a blood alcohol content level of .24 following a Breathalyzer test, the Associated Press reports.

Analysis: A reading of .24 is three times the Oklahoma legal limit of .08 and according to state law, a driver can be charged with aggravated DUI when a test reveals a mark of .15 or greater. It's uncertain as to what, if any, league or team sanction Blackmon may face as a result of the incident, but at the very least it is a stressful situation and unwanted distraction for both the Jags and the rookie wideout.

Blackmon was arrested Sunday morning for aggravated DUI, the Tulsa World reports.

Analysis: This is the second time since 2010 that Blackmon has been arrested for DUI. Blackmon and Jaguars have yet to come to terms on a contract and while the incident is unlikely to impact the rookie wideout's playing status, the Jags would no doubt prefer to see Blackmon's press related to his on-field achievements rather than off-field issues.

Justin Blackmon: Looking Good

Blackmon has impressed players and coaches with his performance at OTAs so far, according to the Florida Times-Union.

Analysis: "He's ahead of where you think most rookies would be," said coach Mike Mularkey. Blackmon has the potential to become this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year, but his development depends almost entirely on the ability of quarterback Blaine Gabbert to get him the ball.

Analysis: Blackmon sat out the final day of the Jags' rookie camp earlier this month with a sore foot, but he's good to go now. "I went back home, just rested my feet got back with some better cleats," Blackmon said Tuesday. While Blackmon's fantasy value as a rookie hinges largely on the development of QB Blaine Gabbert, there is an opportunity for him to carve out a significant role in the Jags' offense (opposite Laurent Robinson) out of the gate.

Justin Blackmon: Sore Foot

Blackmon sat out the final day of the Jags' rookie camp Sunday because of a sore right foot, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Coach Mike Mularkey noted that Blackmon had "general soreness in the foot" and that sitting the wideout Sunday was precautionary. Mularkey added that he expects Blackmon to be ready to practice when the team's organized activities begin on May 15.
