Landing in Kansas City
Kansas City is slated to sign Gabbert, Pat McAfee of the Pat McAfee Show reports.
Analysis: With Chad Henne retiring after the team's Super Bowl win over the Eagles, Kansas City was in the market for a veteran backup to Patrick Mahomes. Gabbert fits the bill after serving as Tom Brady's No. 2 in Tampa Bay. The 33-year-old Gabbert hasn't started a game since the 2018 season with the Titans.

Another quiet season
Gabbert completed six of eight passes for 29 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in one game during the 2022 regular season.
Analysis: The veteran didn't see action until the regular-season finale against the Falcons, when Tom Brady exited the game for good during the second quarter. Gabbert played on a one-year deal in 2022, and despite the fact there appears to be a good chance Tom Brady plays elsewhere in 2023, it's unlikely Gabbert is a serious contender for the starting job even if he's re-signed.

Could play behind Brady in Week 18
Head coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Gabbert will be the next man up at quarterback if Tom Brady comes out of Sunday's matchup against Atlanta early, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: Tampa Bay is locked into the fourth seed for the NFC playoffs, so while Brady will start, it's expected that the 45-year-old won't play the entire game. If that's the case, Gabbert will be the next man up, while Bowles also mentioned that Kyle Trask is likely to be active and may see action when Brady and Gabbert are taken out.

Wraps up solid preseason
Gabbert completed five of seven attempts for 46 yards in the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday night.
Analysis: Gabbert was the second quarterback in with Tom Brady making his preseason debut, and the veteran backup was able to helm a nine-play, 81-yard scoring march that culminated in a Ke'Shawn Vaughn one-yard touchdown run. Gabbert saw action in all three exhibitions and was efficient in each one, and he'll open the season in the familiar and typically low-volume role of backing up the highly durable Brady.

Back with Bucs
The Buccaneers re-signed Gabbert on Wednesday.
Analysis: By bringing back Gabbert, who spent the past two seasons as Tom Brady's primary backup, the Bucs have retained all four quarterbacks they carried either on their active roster or practice squad last year. Gabbert won't necessarily retain his status as the No. 2 option on the depth chart, however, as 2021 second-round pick Kyle Trask is a candidate to push him for the top backup role in training camp.

Praised by Arians following start
Gabbert started Saturday night's 34-3 preseason loss to the Titans and went 3-for-6 for 33 yards. He also fumbled once but recovered.
Analysis: Despite the unremarkable numbers and the near turnover, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports Arians has been very pleased with the projected No. 2 quarterback's recent work. "I think Blaine has been really, really good," said Arians. "He had great practices against [the Titans]. If we catch the ball for him, he's going to take us right down the field and score again. So I've got all the confidence in the world." Gabbert saw action in four games last season and went 9-for-16…read more

Will start vs. Titans
Gabbert will start Saturday's preseason contest against the Titans, Joey Knight of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Gabbert entered last weekend's exhibition matchup against the Bengals after Tom Brady handled a single series, but the journeyman veteran will officially get the start Saturday. After Gabbert, who looks set to reprise his role as Brady's primary backup during the regular season, Ryan Griffin and rookie Kyle Trask also stand to see some action.

Back as Brady's backup
Gabbert re-signed Wednesday with the Buccaneers on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Buccaneers continue their efforts to maintain roster continuity by bringing back Gabbert for another season as the No. 2 option behind Tom Brady. The 31-year-old's only action last season came in a Week 16 thrashing of the Lions, when Brady went to the bench for the second half. Unless things take an unexpected turn for the defending Super Bowl champions during the 2021 campaign, Gabbert will once again be in store for limited action.

Limited action behind Brady
Gabbert completed nine of 16 passes for 143 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions across four games during the 2020 regular season. He also rushed nine times for 16 yards and committed a fumble that was recovered by the offense.
Analysis: All of Gabbert's passing production came in a Week 16 evisceration of the Lions, when Tom Brady took an early seat and the veteran backup took over in the second half. Gabbert only attempted one other pass all season, an incompletion in Week 6 against the Packers. The 31-year-old played 2020 on a one-year deal, but given his familiarity with coach Bruce Arians' system and the reasonable salary he'd command, it's likely Gabbert returns to the Buccaneers' fold in 2021.

Sharp in backup duty
Gabbert entered the Buccaneers' 47-7 win over the Lions on Saturday to start the second half and completed nine of 15 attempts for 143 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed twice for 15 yards and fumbled once but recovered.
Analysis: The veteran signal-caller was afforded a rare opportunity for extended action due to the blowout nature of the victory, and he looked to be in full command of an offensive system he knows very well. Gabbert got valuable work in with the first-team pass-catching corps as well, connecting with Rob Gronkowski and Mike Evans for touchdown passes of 25 and 22 yards, respectively. Gabbert could certainly see additional game action in Week 7 against the Saints since the Buccaneers clinched a playoff…read more

No. 2 quarterback behind Tom Brady
Gabbert is not among Tampa Bay's inactive players for Sunday's matchup against the Panthers, per the Buccaneers' official Twitter account.
Analysis: With Ryan Griffin among the Buccaneers' list of inactives for Week 2, Gabbert is expected to serve as the emergency option at quarterback. The No. 10 overall draft choice from 2011 will be thrust into game action should Tom Brady suffer an injury.

Sharp in Wednesday's practice
Gabbert served as the first-team quarterback in Wednesday's practice with Tom Brady getting a veteran's day off, putting together a productive session while connecting with a wide array of pass-catchers, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Among the veterans, Gabbert and fellow signal-caller Ryan Griffin are arguably in contention for most anonymous/forgotten skill players on the Buccaneers roster, considering who they're battling to back up. However, Gabbert had a prime opportunity to make his case for the job Wednesday in Brady's absence, and the 30-year-old took advantage by connecting with the likes of Scotty Miller, O.J. Howard, Cameron Brate, Justin Watson and LeSean McCoy during the session. Gabbert was slated to serve as…read more

Slated to back up Brady
The Buccaneers have signed Gabbert to a one-year deal, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: Gabbert, who landed on IR last September due to a shoulder injury, is back with the Bucs, presumably healthy and now in line to work behind new QB Tom Brady. The No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft last saw regular-season action in 2018, appearing in eight games (including three starts) with the Titans.

No return this season
Gabbert (shoulder) will not return from injured reserve this season, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The confirmation regarding the backup quarterback came directly from coach Bruce Arians on Friday. Gabbert originally suffered the injury during preseason, although he wasn't placed on injured reserve until Sept. 24. Gabbert's confirmed absence the rest of the way gives the embattled Jameis Winston one less reason to look over his shoulder if his up-and-down play continues, considering the veteran signal-caller could have been a viable alternative for Arians due to his experience in the coach's…read more
