Turns in dud in tough matchup
Hyde rushed 10 times for 17 yards and caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 28-22 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Hyde had an extremely disappointing stat line when considering the Texans played with a lead for the entire contest. Part of the blame can be placed on the Patriots' stout run defense, which has stymied many a back this season. Still, it was the worst performance of the veteran's 2019 campaign, as the only other time he was limited to less than 20 yards (Week 3 against the Chargers) he was able to hit paydirt to salvage his fantasy line. Next week's opponent, the Denver Broncos, are far more…read more

Solid in Week 12 win
Hyde rushed 16 times for 67 yards in the Texans' 20-17 win over the Colts on Thursday.
Analysis: Hyde led the Texans' backfield as usual, but he often found running room hard to come by against a stingy Colts front. The veteran back accrued almost half his production on a 33-yard scamper in the third quarter, leaving him with just an average of just 2.3 yards per tote on his other 15 carries. Hyde should continue in his usual lead-back capacity in a tough matchup versus the Patriots in Week 13, a week from Sunday.

Breaks off long score
Hyde rushed nine times for 65 yards and a touchdown and failed to bring in his only target in the Texans' 41-7 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
Analysis: Hyde's final numbers are largely a mirage, as 41 of his yards came on a fourth-quarter, garbage-time rushing score. The touchdown was Hyde's fourth of the campaign and first since Week 6. Hyde now has at least 65 rushing yards in four of his last five games, and although his nine carries Sunday were a season low, they were clearly a product of game script. Hyde will look to bounce back with his normal workload against the Colts in a Thursday night matchup.

Season-best rushing total in London
Hyde rushed 19 times for 160 yards but wasn't targeted in the passing game and lost a fumble in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Jaguars in London.
Analysis: Hyde could have had an even bigger day but watched Duke Johnson vulture a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter. That was Johnson's first rushing score of the season, so it's hardly cause for concern, especially considering Hyde broke out for a season-high rushing total in this one, topping the 100-yard mark for just the second time in 2019. The 29-year-old running back will get to rest up during a Week 10 bye before returning stateside to face the Ravens in Week 11.

Gains 83 rushing yards
Hyde carried 19 times for 83 yards during Sunday's 27-24 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Hyde averaged a respectable 4.4 yards per carry against a tough Raiders front, with his long gain going for 20 yards. He received one target in the passing game but was unable to haul it in. Hyde also received a couple of carries in the red zone, but he was unable to convert in what amounted to a middling performance from a fantasy perspective. He'll look to make a larger impact next Sunday against the Jaguars in London.

Heavy use in win
Hyde rushed 19 times for 83 yards and had one target in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Raiders in Week 8.
Analysis: The Texans found themselves trailing for much of the game, but not so much that they had to abandon the run. Hyde's 19 carries was his fourth-highest total, while the 83 yards were his third highest. He once again out-touched backfield mate Duke Johnson by a wide margin, 19-7, although it was Johnson that had the lone touchdown scored by a running back.

Bottled up in Week 7 loss
Hyde rushed 12 times for 35 yards and failed to catch his lone target in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Hyde couldn't find much running room, but he still finished as the team's leading rusher, edging out Duke Johnson by one yard and Deshaun Watson by three. Johnson -- who had seven carries in this one -- isn't much of a threat to Hyde's rushing workload, as Hyde has racked up double-digit rushing attempts in every game while getting at least 20 carries in three of seven contests. Expect a stronger performance out of Hyde against the Raiders in Week 8.

Racks up 130 scrimmage yards
Hyde carried 26 times for 116 yards and a touchdown Sunday, adding one catch for 14 yards during the 31-24 win over the Chiefs.
Analysis: Hyde was a workhorse in this one, touching the ball 26 times as he posted his highest output of scrimmage yards since Week 2 of the 2017 season. He managed a respectable average of 4.5 yards per carry and made noise with a two-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Hyde has now been given a whopping 47 carries over the last two weeks and seems to be the go-to option in the running game moving forward. Punches in goal-line score
Hyde registered 60 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries and failed to catch his only target during Sunday's 53-32 win against the Falcons. He also fumbled once, but the loose ball was recovered by a teammate.
Analysis: Given his lack of passing-game involvement -- just seven targets over the first five weeks of the season -- Hyde has proven to be a touchdown-dependent fantasy asset thus far in 2019. On Sunday, the veteran back punched in a one-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter to provide Houston with a lead that it would never relinquish, now providing him with two scores over the past three weeks. Despite Hyde's minimal pass-catching upside, the fact that he has averaged 14.6 rush attempts per…read more

Totals 64 scrimmage yards
Hyde carried 12 times for 58 yards and caught four of five targets for an additional six yards during Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Hyde exceeded 10 carries for the second time as a Texan, finishing with a respectable 4.8 yards per carry against a solid Panthers defense. He was also much more involved in the passing game after receiving just one target during his first three games, though he had little to show for those efforts. Hyde continues to dominate the backfield touches and should have plenty of opportunities to make an impact in next Sunday's home matchup against the Falcons.

Stifled on ground
Hyde carried the ball 10 times for 19 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Chargers.
Analysis: Hyde was the clear lead back once again, out touching Duke Johnson 10-4. Despite entering the game averaging 5.8 yards per carry, Hyde managed only 1.9 yards per attempt with his longest rush going for just 10 yards. Still, he salvaged his day by reaching the end zone, his first score of the season. Hyde will look to bounce back in Week 4 against the Panthers.

Another solid rushing day
Hyde ran for 90 yards on 20 carries during Sunday's 13-12 win against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Hyde has predictably made minimal impact in the passing game with just one catch for two yards in two games, but he has thus far garnered 30 of 45 running back carries for Houston, while averaging a supremely economical 5.8 yards per rush. A formidable opponent awaits in Week 3 for Hyde and the Texans' backfield, as the Chargers contained Detroit's running back committee of Kerryon Johnson, Ty Johnson, C.J. Anderson and J.D. Efficient against Saints
Hyde rushed 10 times for 83 yards in Monday night's 30-28 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Hyde, who only joined the Texans via trade last weekend, led the team in carries in his debut. Although Duke Johnson also rushed nine times for 57 yards, and had 33 receiving yards compared to Hyde's mere two, Hyde's production was still rather impressive considering the circumstances. Furthermore, as a physical, early-down option, Hyde's volume could increase as he continues to acclimate to Houston's offense, offering some upside despite a difficult matchup against the Jaguars in Week 2.

Complements Johnson in backfield
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said Hyde is an early-down back and will be used as a complement to Duke Johnson, Deephi SIdhu of the Texans' official site reports.
Analysis: The 6-foot, 229-pound Hyde will be used differently than Duke Johnson. "Carlos, I think, is a solid first-, second-down runner, can help you in the passing game," O'Brien said Monday. "I think there's a number of things he can do. I think that he's got good size relative to that position and he's had production in the past." The Chiefs traded Hyde to Houston on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Gets eight carries
Hyde rushed eight times for 29 yards in Thursday night's 27-20 preseason loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Hyde got the start at running back with Damien Williams, Darwin Thompson and Darrel Williams all sitting out. Those absences allowed Hyde to get his most work of the preseason, even if he didn't distinguish himself much. Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see if the veteran has done enough to earn himself a roster spot ahead of the regular season.

Sees backup reps Monday
While Damien Williams, Darwin Thompson and Darrel Williams saw first-team snaps at practice Monday, Hyde worked with the team's backups, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: There's been chatter that Hyde may not survive roster cuts, as time is running out for him to climb back up the ladder in the team's backfield pecking order. In any case, the notion that Hyde may work in a timeshare with Damien Williams -- the Chiefs' top back -- has been effectively quieted.

Battling for roster spot
Brooke Pryor of The Kansas City Star and Nate Taylor of the Athletic both leave Hyde off their projections for the Chiefs' 53-man roster.
Analysis: With Darwin Thompson earning some first-team practice reps and making a case for the second spot on the depth chart, it isn't clear that there's a role available for Hyde, who has played just 27 snaps on special teams throughout his career. The Chiefs already gave him $1.5 million guaranteed, but they still will save more than $500k in cap space if they cast Hyde aside in favor of young players -- Darrel Williams, Tremon Smith or Marcus Marshall -- to fill out the roster behind Damien Williams…read more

Solid limited opportunity
Hyde carried five times for 23 yards in the Chiefs' 17-7 preseason loss to the Steelers on Saturday. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: The veteran entered the contest in the second series ahead of Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson and acquitted himself reasonably well while seeing an additional four-yard gain wiped out by an illegal motion penalty. The one blemish was his lost fumble, an issue that's been a problem throughout his career. Finds end zone
Hyde had two rushes for two yards and a touchdown against the Bengals in the team's first preseason contest Saturday.
Analysis: Hyde was the lone back to receive a carry with the first team offense as Damien Williams is still nursing a hamstring injury. He wasn't given much opportunity, though he did manage to find the end zone on a one-yard rush to put the Chiefs up 7-0. Hyde will hope to force a committee approach in the team's backfield as the regular season approaches, and Williams' injury in training camp certainly helps his cause.

Fills in for Williams
Hyde took snaps with the first-team offense at the start of drills during Wednesday's practice with Damien Williams (hamstring) being eased back into the mix, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: That's not to say that Hyde has overtaken Williams, but it does offer contextual evidence that the veteran back is currently ahead of Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson in the pecking order. The Chiefs haven't wavered from the notion that Damien Williams is viewed as the starter, but Hyde is putting himself in a position to see a decent-sized complementary role out of the gate. If injuries factor in, Hyde has the ability to step right into an increased profile in the Kansas City offense.

Taking advantage of reps
Coach Andy Reid indicated Saturday that Hyde "has done a nice job" with his additional reps while Damien Williams (hamstring) has been sidelined, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. However, offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy reiterated Sunday that Williams remains the starter.
Analysis: Hyde was brought to Kansas City to provide some depth in the backfield behind Williams, but he's gotten the majority of first-team reps early in camp with Williams unavailable. Rookie Darwin Thompson sits behind Hyde, but it doesn't seem as though he's a threat to Hyde's reps at this point. If Williams misses too much time, there's a chance that Hyde will see some added run early in the season while Williams catches up.

Eyeing pass-catching role
Hyde has lined up with Damien Williams in the backfield on occasion during minicamp and has been frequently used as a receiver, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With Williams already being named the team's starting running back to open 2019, Hyde will have to settle for the top backup role, at best. Although he's new to the squad, Hyde's experience likely means he will face less of a learning curve than rookie Darwin Thompson. The veteran thus looks like the early favorite to slot in as the No. 2 back and could see a healthy dose of targets if he continues to show reliable hands through training camp and the preseason. Signs one-year deal with Chiefs
Hyde signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported the one-year deal will come in just under $3 million. Hyde is expected to back up Damien Williams, who came on strong for the Chiefs following the release of Kareem Hunt, ultimately earning a two-year $5.1 million extension towards the end of December. Analysis: The Jags were hoping to find a trade partner, but they never had much chance unless Hyde agreed to a pay cut beforehand. The 27-year-old running back will be an unrestricted free agent, coming off a 2018 campaign in which he produced a career-low 3.3 yards per carry across six games for the Browns and eight for the Jaguars. The Jaguars are actively looking to trade Hyde, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: It's not really a surprise to see Hyde's name discussed in trade rumors considering the former Browns running back only registered 189 rushing yards and a ghastly 3.3 yards per carry with the Jaguars after being acquired near the trade deadline. Unimpressive in finale
Hyde rushed for 13 yards on 10 carries and caught two passes for six total yards during Sunday's 20-3 loss to Houston.
Analysis: The talk in Jacksonville after the game was the disinterested look on Leonard Fournette and T.J. Yeldon's faces on the sideline, calling into question their futures with the team. Hyde's isn't much clearer. Cutting Hyde in the offseason comes with cap penalty for the Jaguars. Analysis: Hyde's 47 yards represented both a team high Sunday and his most as a Jaguar. Hyde ran for 33 yards on 10 carries during Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Five of Hyde's carries came after Leonard Fournette was ejected in the third quarter. Eight touches in Week 11
Hyde rushed eight times for 44 yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's 20-16 loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Hyde and T.J. Yeldon (seven touches) split the leftovers behind Leonard Fournette (30 touches). Jacksonville led 16-0 in this one and went about as run-heavy as possible, so it was discouraging to see Hyde fail to make much happen despite favorable game flow.
