Another average season
Jones recorded 57 tackles and one pass breakup over 16 games in 2020.
Analysis: Your proverbial jack of all trades but master of none, Jones followed up a solid 2019 campaign with another one in 2020. However, both the head coach and general manager that valued his versatility have been fired, making it possible that Jones has played his last game with Detroit. The Lions could save over $2 million against the salary cap by letting go of the soon-to-be 30-year-old this offseason.

Off injury report
Jones (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: Jones practiced on a limited basis Thursday and Friday after missing Wednesday's practice, but he evidently showed enough in those limited sessions to come off the injury report. The linebacker will look to add to his season total of 40 tackles against a Chicago team with which he spent the first four seasons of his career from 2014-17.

Managing practice reps
Jones was limited at Thursday's practice due to a knee injury.
Analysis: Following a missed practice Wednesday, it's a positive sign that Jones was able to participate in some capacity a day later. Jones should have a good chance to suit up in Sunday's game against the Bears, but if he's forced to sit, Jalen Reeves-Maybin would be in line for an uptick in snaps.

Starts week with missed practice
Jones (knee) didn't practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Jones has battled a nagging knee injury for much of the season, but he avoided the injury report entirely last week. If he can get back to practicing Thursday or Friday, Jones will have a good shot to suit up Sunday in Chicago.

Good to go for Week 11
Jones (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Jones was limited at all three of Detroit's practices this week but evidently looked good enough to get cleared for game day. As a result, he'll be out there in his usual spot as a starting outside linebacker Sunday.

Held back at Wednesday's practice
Jones (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Jones logged a pair of limited practices last week but ended up playing against the Football Team, although he handled a season-low 22 percent snap share on defense. Perhaps his knee injury caused the drop in usage, but his limited practice capacity to start the week bodes well for his availability in this Sunday's contest against the Panthers.

Active against Minnesota
Jones (knee) is active for Sunday's game versus the Vikings.
Analysis: Jones has logged exactly 51 percent of the defensive workload in each of the past two games, totaling eight tackles (two solo) in that stretch. He's expected to remain as the team's starting inside linebacker, however, and he'll have the tall task of slowing down Dalvin Cook.

Ready to face Saints
Jones (knee) is active for Sunday's game versus the Saints.
Analysis: Jones has played at least 63 percent of defensive snaps in every game this season and is slated for a similar role Sunday despite being banged up. His IDP outlook remains low, however, as the 29-year-old linebacker has recorded just 10 tackles (five solo) and a pass breakup through three games.

Pops up on injury report
Jones (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Jones wasn't listed on the injury report until Friday when he didn't practice. It's possible his absence was simply precautionary, but his final status won't be revealed until 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. If he misses any time, expect Reggie Ragland to bump into a starting outside linebacker role.

Offseason brings competition
Jones (shoulder) will have significant competition in 2020 after the offseason additions of Jamie Collins and Reggie Ragland, Lindsay Miller of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Jones signed a two-year extension with Detroit in November, but he missed the final three games of the season and underwent right shoulder surgery in late December. The 29-year-old should enter 2020 healthy, but with Collins and Ragland now in the mix along with Jarrad Davis, Jones is far from guaranteed to retain his starting role.

Rehabbing from shoulder surgery
Jones is facing a 2-to-4 month recovery after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder Friday, Matt Schoch of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old sustained the shoulder injury during Week 14 and ended up missing the final three games of the season, but it appears he should be ready in time for training camp. Jones finished with 51 tackles (29 solo), two sacks and four passes defensed in 13 games and inked a two-year extension with the Lions in November,

Heads to IR
Jones (shoulder) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Jones was able to practice twice over the past week, albeit in a limited fashion, but he was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos. The Lions will now shut him down for the season. When Jones was active this year, he averaged 47.5 defensive snaps per game, and he finished the year with 51 tackles, two sacks and four pass breakups over 13 outings.

Out for Week 16
Jones (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Jones got two limited practices in to start the week before sitting out Friday. Jahlani Tavai and Jalen Reeves-Maybin will get more playing time as a result.

Inactive Week 15
Jones (shoulder) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: The 28-year-old received the questionable tag after working as a limited practice participant this week, but he won't be suiting up Sunday. Jalen Reeves-Maybin figures to see increased defensive snaps while Jones misses his first game of the season.

Deemed questionable for Sunday
Jones (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Jones put in limited practices all week and seems likely to play Sunday. The 28-year-old has yet to miss a game this year.

Logs limited session
Jones (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Jones logged a 72-percent snap share in this past Sunday's loss to the Vikings, which is consistent with his normal usage. There doesn't appear to be any concern about his status for this Sunday's clash against Tampa Bay as long as he doesn't downgrade to a non-participant.

Double-digit tackles
Jones registered 11 tackles during Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: Fresh off signing a two-year contract extension earlier this week, Jones turned in a productive day and set a new career high in tackles as a Lion. He averaged just 4.1 tackles per game in seven prior outings, though, and Jones doesn't make rack up enough stats defending the passing game to otherwise be of fantasy utility.

Receives two-year extension
Jones signed a two-year contract extension through the 2021 season with the Lions on Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Jones has started all 23 games under coach Matt Patricia since joining the Lions last season and will remain in the Motor City for the next couple of years. The 28-year-old has 29 tackles (21 solo), two sacks and four passes defensed through the first seven games of 2019.
