Limited in return to practice
The Giants activated Shelton (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
Analysis: Shelton was limited in his return to practice due to "COVID ramp up," but he will have two more opportunities to participate in full ahead of Sunday's season finale against Washington.

Placed on COVID-19 list
Shelton (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Shelton's move to the COVID list is magnified by starting nose tackle Austin Johnson being questionable with a foot injury for Sunday against the Eagles. If both miss, the Giants' defensive line depth will be stretched thin.

Avoids injury designation
Shelton (pectoral) doesn't have an injury designation for Monday's game against the Chiefs.
Analysis: Shelton missed last week's win over the Panthers after suffering the pectoral injury Week 6, but he'll retake the field Monday for the Giants. The 28-year-old has 16 tackles (four solo) and a half-sack in six games this season.

Inactive as expected
Shelton (pectoral) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Shelton was listed as doubtful ahead of Sunday's matchup despite logging three limited practices throughout the week. It will be his first absence of the season, with David Moa likely to see some increased work as a result.

Listed as doubtful for Week 7
Shelton (pectoral) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup with the Panthers, Zack Rosenblatt of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Shelton suffered the injury against the Rams in Week 6 and appears to have avoided a major injury, but he will likely be sidelined for at least one game. If the 28-year-old defensive tackle does miss Week 7, Raymond Johnson may get to see the first snaps of his career.

Dealing with strain
Shelton is considered day-to-day with a pectoral strain after leaving Sunday's loss to the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Shelton exited Sunday's contest late in the blowout loss, but it doesn't appear as though he's dealing with a major injury. The Giants are optimistic that he avoided a tear, so it's possible that he could be back on the field for the Week 7 matchup against the Panthers.

Leaves early Sunday
Shelton left Sunday's game early against the Rams with a pectoral inury, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Shelton left late in the game, so his absence creates little impact for now. He is the primary man behind Austin Johnson in the Giants' 3-4 defense, though, so any extended time missed would certainly leave the depth chart thin. Shelton will try to return in Week 7 against the Panthers.

Inks deal with Big Blue
Shelton (triceps) is signing a one-year contract with the Giants, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The 2015 first-round pick is a discount replacement for Dalvin Tomlinson, who cashed in with a two-year, $21 million contract from Minnesota after making 64 consecutive starts for the Giants. Shelton hasn't been quite as reliable, but he did have a 59-tackle campaign in Cleveland (2016) and a year with 61 tackles and three sacks for New England (2019). Shelton then dipped to 37 tackles and one sack in his 12 games (all starts) for the Lions last season, missing Weeks 13-16 with a knee injury…read more

Cut by Lions
The Lions released Shelton (triceps) with a failed physical designation Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Shelton suffered a triceps injury in the 2020 season finale, and he apparently has yet to fully recover from the injury. The 2015 first-round pick is now a free agent after recording 37 tackles (15 solo), a sack and a pass breakup over 12 games last year.

Leaves with triceps injury
Shelton (triceps) will not return to Sunday's game against the Vikings, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Shelton had one solo tackle before being forced out of Sunday's regular-season finale. Through 11 appearances in 2020, Shelton notched 37 tackles (15 solo), one sack and one defended pass.

Green light for Sunday's game
Shelton (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Analysis: Shelton was activated from injured reserve Saturday, and he'll return to the lineup for the first time since Week 12. The sixth-year defensive tackle may not start at defensive tackle. He should handle a modest workload regardless.

Questionable following activation
Shelton (knee) has been activated from IR and is questionable for Sunday's clash against Minnesota.
Analysis: Shelton was injured during a Week 12 loss to Houston and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. Though Detroit has little to play for in the season finale, Shelton's return would be a notable boost to a defense that ranks last in the league in points allowed this season.

Designated to return from IR
Shelton (knee) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Shelton was originally placed on IR on Dec. 2, and his 21-day evaluation window is now open for possible activation. With both Shelton and Everson Griffen returning to practice, Detroit's defensive line could be significantly boosted.

Hits injured reserve
The Lions placed Shelton (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: The transaction will force Shelton to miss at least three games due to the right knee injury he sustained Thanksgiving Day. Over at least that span, John Penisini stands to handle increased snaps.

Questionable to return
Shelton (knee) is questionable to return to the Lions' Week 12 matchup against the Texans, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.comreports.
Analysis: Shelton suffered a right knee injury early in the second quarter. He immediately headed to the locker room for further evaluation and it is unclear if he will be able to return. John Penisini should see an uptick is snaps in Shelton's absence.

Joining Patricia in Detroit
Shelton agreed Wednesday with the Lions on a two-year, $8 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: A 2015 first-round pick, Shelton never quite lived up to expectations in Cleveland but had a career year for the Patriots in 2019, recording 61 tackles and three sacks on 492 defensive snaps. The 345-pound space eater now heads to Detroit as a replacement for Damon Harrison, who was released by the Lions in February.

Season high in tackles
Shelton generated seven tackles, one sack and one forced fumble during Sunday's 17-10 victory over the Eagles.
Analysis: Shelton made a number of impressive plays, none bigger than his strip-sack of Carson Wentz in the second quarter. By the final whistle, he finished with a new season high in tackles while continuing to raise his career high with his third sack of the season. Clearly an important piece of a stout Patriots defense, Shelton will need to keep performing at a high level in order for New England to shut down Ezekiel Elliott in Week 12.

Playing vs. Philadelphia
Shelton (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Shelton practiced in a limited capacity all week, but he's been cleared for action. The 2015 first-round pick has started at nose tackle this year, and he figures to continue this role. Shelton has 31 tackles and two sacks through nine contests.

Considered questionable
Shelton (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Shelton was limited at practice all week, which seemingly indicates he is a true game-time decision. Adam Butler would presumably replace Shelton at nose tackle should he ultimately be unable to give it a go, but more information should come closer to kickoff.
