Makes impact with pick-six
Collins made four tackles (one solo) and returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown in the Giants' Week 17 win over Indianapolis.
Analysis: New York led 14-3 in the second quarter when Collins picked off Nick Foles and darted 52 yards down the sideline for his second career touchdown. The veteran's previous pick-six came in his second year as a pro back in 2016 during his first stint with the Giants. Though his role isn't as large now as it was back then, Collins has shown that he still has some gas left in the tank, totaling eight tackles -- including one sack -- and Sunday's big INT-TD over the past two weeks.

Signed to active roster
The Giants are signing Collins to the 53-man roster Thursday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Collins had already been promoted to the active roster three times, so he had to be signed in order to see action with New York again this season. He played 47 percent of defensive snaps Week 15 and could be in line for another notable workload Saturday in Minnesota.

Elevated to active roster
Collins was elevated off the practice squad Saturday.
Analysis: Collins has now been activated for three games this season, but he has been able to record only a single tackle over the previous two contests. Collins could see playing time at both linebacker and safety, as the Giants are very thin at both positions.

Reverts to practice squad
Collins reverted to the Giants' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Collins was elevated to the active roster for a second straight game, but after seeing 21 defensive snaps in Week 7, the veteran safety saw just seven snaps in Week 8. The 2015 second-round pick is now eligible for only one more elevation before he'll need to be signed to the active roster.

Elevated to active roster again
The Giants elevated Collins from their practice squad to the active roster Saturday for Sunday's matchup against the Seahawks, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: Collins gets the bump to the active roster for a second straight week. The veteran safety recorded one tackle across 21 defensive snaps during the team's Week 7 win over Jacksonville and figures to see a similar role in Week 8.

Moves back to practice squad
Collins reverted to the Giants' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Collins was activated ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars for the first time since joining the Giants' practice squad ahead of Week 4. The 28-year-old logged one tackle while playing 23 defensive snaps alongside Dane Belton, as the two operated as New York's backup safeties behind Julian Love and Xavier McKinney in Week 7. Collins could continue to help fill in if Jason Pinnock (ankle) remains sidelined against the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 30.

Officially promoted
Collins was elevated from the Giants' practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Expected to be elevated
The Giants are expected to elevate Collins from the practice squad to the 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's contest versus Jacksonville, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: New York signed the former All-Pro to the practice squad just over two weeks ago, and it appears that he'll see his first game action of the season in Week 7. Collins could be used as a sub-package linebacker Sunday, per Raanan. Collins was a strong IDP asset just a few years ago, but it's not yet clear how often he'll be on the field in his second stint with the Giants.

Inked to Giants' practice squad
New York signed Collins to the practice squad Thursday, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.comreports.
Analysis: Collins reunites with a familiar team, and the fact that he's traveling to London makes it seem likely that he's promoted to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Packers. The veteran is capable of contributing at both linebacker and safety.

Released without injury tag
Collins (foot) was released without an injury designation Wednesday, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Analysis: Collins, who is designated as a post-June 1 cut, will enter free agency at full health after having missed the last three games of the 2021 season due to a foot injury. The 28-year-old's release saves Washington roughly $6.5 million in cap space. After transitioning to a hybrid linebacker/safety role last season, Collins will now need to seek out an opportunity with another franchise.

Let go by Washington
Washington released Collins (foot) on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reprots.
Analysis: As expected, Collins will head to free agency after the two sides were unable to agree to a restructured contract. After the recent acquisition of Carson Wentz, Washington needed to free up cap space before the new league year began Wednesday, and Collins' release saves the Commanders roughly $6.5 million. The 28-year-old, who transitioned to a hybrid linebacker/safety role in 2021, may have to settle for a one- or two-year deal on the open market.

Appears destined for release
Washington intends to release Collins (foot) after both sides were unable to agree on a restructured contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Collins has played out just three seasons of the six-year, $84 million contract he signed with the Commanders back in 2019, but the team's recent trade for Carson Wentz necessitated that some more cap space be freed up. Releasing Collins would stand to save Washington roughly $6.5 million with $9.6 million in dead money. The 28-year-old, who transitioned to a hybrid linebacker role in 2021, would then be positioned to earn another sizeable pay day on the open market.

Lands on IR

Won't play Sunday
Washington ruled Collins (foot) out Friday ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Collins will miss his second game of the season after he wasn't able to practice in any capacity Wednesday through Friday due to the foot injury, which he sustained in the Week 15 loss to the Eagles. Per Matthew Paras of The Washington Times, head coach Ron Rivera said Collins could be in danger of missing time beyond Week 16, so the 27-year-old looks at risk of a multi-game absence.

Sits out Wednesday's practice
Collins was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice due to a foot injury.
Analysis: Collins suffered the foot injury during Tuesday's loss to the Eagles, so it's hardly a surprise he's listed as a DNP a day later. The 27-year-old played only 55 percent of the defensive snaps and had seven tackles (four solo) and an interception before leaving the game.

Collins recorded five tackles, two sacks, one interception and one pass defended in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Collins was all over the field in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, as he took down Dak Prescott in both the first and fourth quarters to record his first multi-sack effort of the season. He also tallied an interception on the Cowboys' second offensive possession by making a leaping catch on an overthrown pass attempt by Prescott. Collins (foot) is active for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though he's listed as a defensive back on Washington's official roster, Collins moved into a hybrid outside linebacker/safety role after he proved to be a liability in coverage early on during the season. Collins has performed better in his current role and hasn't seemed to have sacrificed much IDP utility with the change. Records first sack of season
Collins totaled eight tackles (five solo) and one sack during Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Broncos.
Analysis: Collins has recorded at least six tackles in seven straight games. His consistent production offers fantasy managers a high-floor option, but his lack of turnovers and sacks has limited his potential this season. The 27-year-old safety notched his first sack of the 2021 campaign Sunday and will look to build off that performance when Washington returns to action -- after its Week 9 bye -- against the Buccaneers.

Recovers fumble in loss
Collins had seven tackles (solo) and one fumble recovery during Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Collins led the defense in tackles despite the modest output, and he now has at least six tackles in each of the past six contests. The 27-year-old has 46 tackles (29 solo) and one fumble recovery through seven contests but is without an interception, a sack or forced fumble.

Another eight-tackle performance
Collins made eight tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 34-30 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Collins has now posted back-to-back eight-tackle outings and three straight contests with at least seven tackles. After playing just seven games last year, the 27-year-old is starting to look like the player who totaled 117 tackles across 15 games for Washington in 2019.

Eight tackles in loss
Collins posted eight tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 43-21 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Collins has now generated 18 tackles through three games. He averaged 7.8 tackles per game in 2019, so he's not far from his pre-Achilles tear numbers. Given his upside, there's no reason for fantasy managers to worry too much for the time being.

Records two tackles in loss
Collins played 65 snaps and recorded two tackles during Sunday's loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Collins suffered an Achilles tear in Week 7 of the 2020 campaign and made an incredible recovery to be ready for Week 1. There may be some limitations for the 27-year-old as he played only 80 percent of Washington's defensive snaps, while fellow safety Bobby McCain played 85 percent of the snaps.

Ready to practice
Collins (Achilles) was cleared to practice Wednesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The three-time Pro Bowler played seven games for Washington in 2021, racking up 41 tackles, two sacks and one interception before going down with an Achilles injury. Collins will be in a tight position battle with Kamren Curl to earn a starting spot at strong safety. Given the devastating nature of Collins' injury and the emergence of Curl last season, It wouldn't be surprising to see Washington use both safeties in a rotational capacity.

Avoids PUP list
Collins (Achilles) was not placed on any injury list as Washington begins training camp, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Collins did not participate in team minicamp in June as he was still recovering from an Achilles tear that ended his 2020 season in Week 9. However, the fact that he did not start camp on any sort of injury list is a reassuring sign that he's closer to being fully recovered.

Analysis: Collins suffered a torn Achilles last October and still hasn't returned to practice. That doesn't necessarily mean he's behind schedule, but it'll be time to worry if the safety isn't back on the field within the first week or two of training camp. Collins has four seasons remaining on a six-year, $84 million contract, but the guarantees dry up after his $12.5 million base salary this season. Collins (Achilles) posted a video Wednesday featuring himself running, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Collins is roughly six months removed from surgery to repair a torn left Achilles' tendon, and his recovery appears to be progressing on track. The 27-year-old is heading into the third season of a six-year, $84 million contract with Washington, and he'll settle back into a starting role at safety once he's back to full health. Collins was on pace for a third consecutive season with 100-plus tackles, and he added two sacks, a pass breakup and an interception through the first seven games. Collins underwent season-ending surgery Monday after an MRI confirmed he tore his left Achilles' tendon in Sunday's 25-3 win over the Cowboys, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Before sustaining the significant injury in the second quarter of the victory, Collins compiled 41 tackles (24 solo), two sacks, an interception and a forced fumble over Washington's first seven games. Produces 10 stops
Collins made 10 tackles -- 1.5 for a loss -- in Sunday's 30-10 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Collins secured his first double-digit tackling performance of the season, and he now has 32 stops through five games. The 26-year-old safety is on track to reach the 100-tackle threshold for the fifth time in his six-year NFL career, so he should continue to be a viable IDP option. Collins (shoulder) finished 2019 with 117 tackles (78 solo), one sack, two forced fumbles and four passes defended in 15 games.
Analysis: It's debatable whether Collins lived up to his six-year, $84 million contract, but he at least provided a level of reliability to a secondary plagued by injuries and disappointing play. The former Giant finished third among the league's defensive backs in tackles, and he played every snap on defense prior to missing Week 17 with a shoulder injury. Unable to contain Barkley
Collins generated six tackles, one pass breakup and one forced fumble during Sunday's overtime loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Collins seemingly hasn't made the kind of impact the Redskins were probably hoping to get out of the expensive offseason addition. The sentiment around the situation perhaps only got harsher during the second loss of the year to a Giants team that now seems wise to have let Collins sign an $84 million contract elsewhere. Callahan's exact words were that Collins "shouldn't be an issue" for Week 16, according to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington. Collins had nine tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 24-9 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Minus a four-tackle performance against the 49ers in Week 7, Collins has been a dependable IDP contributor in 2019 with at least seven tackles in each contest. The 25-year-old ranks fourth in the NFL with 78 tackles (52 solo), and he also has one sack and one forced fumble this season.
