Won't make team
Siemian was released by the Bengals on Tuesday, Jay Morrison reports.
Analysis: Siemian was working to earn the backup role to Joe Burrow; however, he was edged out by Washington product +Jake Browning. The former will now need to seek out another opportunity, where he'd look to see the field in a regular-season game for a fifth NFL team.

In line to start Friday
Siemian is slated to start Friday's preseason game against the Falcons, Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' official site reports.
Analysis: The report notes that after Siemian gets first-half work in on Friday, Jake Browning is in line to play the second half of the contest. Meanwhile, starter Joe Burrow didn't make the trip with the team to Atlanta as he continues to rehab his strained calf.

Likely starting second exhibition
Siemian is expected to start Friday's preseason game versus Atlanta, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jake Browning started the Bengals' preseason opener versus the Packers and played the entire first half, while Siemian handled the second half. The two quarterbacks will simply reverse roles Friday, but they figure to see the same amount of snaps. Joe Burrow (calf) is expected to be healthy by Week 1, so Browning and Siemian are competing for the top backup spot, with the former appearing to have the upper hand thus far in training camp.

Behind Browning
Siemian completed 15 of 28 passes for 121 yards and one interception in Friday's 36-19 preseason loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Siemian played the entire second half, but Jake Browning played the first half, suggesting Browning is currently ahead of Siemian in the competition to be Joe Burrow's (calf) backup. This competition carries extra significance since Burrow could miss regular-season action due to his injury, though the starter was seen throwing deep passes and sprinting prior to Friday's game. Browning also finished with no touchdowns and one interception, so neither quarterback has done much to seize the backup…read more

Inks deal with Cincinnati
Siemian agreed to a one-year contract with the Bengals on Wednesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Siemian will get a chance to compete with Jake Browning for the top backup spot behind Joe Burrow in 2023 after Brandon Allen, who operated as Burrow's backup for three straight years, agreed to a deal with the 49ers earlier in the offseason. After operating as a part-time starter for Denver in 2016 and 2017, Siemian has since bounced around the league as a backup. He was with the Bears in 2022 and appeared in two games, completing 15 of 26 passes for 184 yards, one touchdown and one…read more

Let go Thursday
Siemian was released by the Bears on Thursday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Siemian ended the season on IR after he needed surgery to address an oblique injury suffered in Week 12 warmups. The veteran quarterback, who is now presumably past the issue, has previously spent time with the Broncos, Jets and Saints before landing in Chicago last season. He'll now likely work to find a backup opportunity with a new franchise.

Ends season on injured reserve
Siemian ended the season completing 15 of 26 passes for 184 yards with one touchdown pass and an interception.
Analysis: Siemian struggled in his spot-start against the Jets in Week 12, though that was far from an ideal matchup that also had terrible weather conditions. As backup quarterbacks go, Siemian has been a reasonable option for the Saints and the Bears over the last two years. He'll likely be in a similar role next year, which will be his seventh year in the league. He's under contract with the team through the 2023 season.

Heads to IR
Siemian was placed on the Bears' injured reserve Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Siemian is set to undergo season-ending surgery for an oblique injury sustained in pregame warmups ahead of Chicago's Week 12 loss to the Jets. The 30-year-old quarterback was then ruled out for Sunday's game against the Packers, and he'll now turn his focus toward recovering ahead of the 2023 season. With Siemian done for the year, the Bears have signed Nathan Peterman from the practice squad to serve as the backup quarterback behind Justin Fields on Sunday.

To undergo season-ending surgery
Coach Matt Eberflus said Friday that Siemian will undergo season-ending surgery on his oblique, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Siemian was slated to fill in for an absent Justin Fields (shoulder) this past Sunday at the Jets, but he injured his oblique in warmups and suddenly was a game-time decision. He ended up playing through the pain and logged all 56 offense snaps in the loss while completing 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In the wake of the performance, Siemian was unable to practice during Week 13 prep and now will be sidelined for the rest of the campaign. Fields is in line…read more

Sitting out another practice
Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy said Siemian (oblique) will be a non-participant in Thursday's practice, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Chicago's top two quarterbacks figure to be listed on the injury report the same way they were Wednesday, when top signal-caller Justin Fields (shoulder) appeared as a limited participant. Even though Siemian received the starting nod in place of the injured Fields in Week 12, it's the former player who may be more in danger of sitting out this Sunday's game against the Packers. No practice to begin week
Siemian won't practice Wednesday due to an oblique injury, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Siemian injured his oblique during pregame warmups ahead of Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Jets, though he managed to play through the issue while filling in as the starter in place of the injured Justin Fields (shoulder). He wasn't especially effective, however, completing 14 of 25 attempts for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Struggles after hot start
Siemian completed 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Jets. He added eight yards on four rushing attempts.
Analysis: Siemian got off to a strong start, completing three of five passes for 62 yards on the opening drive to set up a 22-yard Cairo Santos field goal before adding another 58 passing yards on the following possession, including a four-yard touchdown pass to Byron Pringle to take a 10-7 lead. New York's defense woke up after that, holding Siemian and the Bears in check the rest of the way. His final pass was an interception on 1st-and-goal, after which the Jets ran out the final 5:04. Draws Week 12 start
Siemian started at QB for the Bears on Sunday against the Jets, Courtney Cronin of ESPN reports.
Analysis: With Justin Fields (shoulder) unavailable, Siemian had been expected to start Sunday, but after he injured an oblique muscle during warmups, the Bears announced that Nathan Peterman would draw the assignment instead. Evidently, Siemian felt better as kickoff approached, and he ended up starting the contest after all. Fields' next chance to suit up will arrive next weekend, when Chicago faces Green Bay in Week 13.

Week 12 starter TBD
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network relays that Bears media relations told reporters that it's a game-time decision between Siemian and Nathan Peterman as to who will start Sunday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: With Justin Fields (shoulder) inactive for the Bears' Week 12 contest, Trevor Siemian had been in line to start, but he suffered an oblique injury during pregame warmups. Peterman was then named the team's starting QB, but now it's a game-time decision regarding who will get the nod.

Injures oblique, won't start Sunday
Siemian suffered an oblique injury in pregame warmups and won't start Sunday's game against the Jets, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: With Justin Fields (shoulder) inactive for the contest, Siemian was on track to make his second appearance and first start of the season for Chicago. However, due to the unfortunate timing of his injury, Siemian doesn't look as though he'll be available as anything more than a No. 2 option, as the Bears have now announced that Nathan Peterman -- who was elevated from the practice squad Saturday -- will draw the start. Starting for Fields in Week 12
Siemian will start in place of Justin Fields (shoulder) Sunday at the Jets.
Analysis: Considering Fields emerged from last Sunday's defeat in Atlanta with a separated left, non-throwing shoulder that includes partially torn ligaments, it's no surprise Siemian is getting a chance to direct the Bears offense just one week later. Appears set for Week 12 start
Siemian appears on track to start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Jets with Justin Fields (shoulder) listed as questionable but not expected to play, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Before making an official call on Fields' status when it releases its Week 12 inactive list 90 minutes before the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, Chicago will give Fields an opportunity to warm up early Sunday as he attempts to prove his health. However, after Fields was limited in practices all week due to what's been described as an AC joint sprain in his non-throwing shoulder, the second-year signal-caller is considered a "long shot" to play, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Efficient performance
Siemian completed five of eight passes for 54 yards in the Bears' 21-20 win against the Browns on Saturday.
Analysis: Siemian entered the game with two minutes left in the first half and played most of the third quarter. He's been the clear No. 2 quarterback behind Justin Fields throughout the summer, and it seems likely he'll retain that role to start the regular season.

Fires touchdown pass
Siemian completed eight of 15 passes for 48 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 27-11 preseason win over the Seahawks' on Thursday.
Analysis: Siemian came in on the Bears' second drive. Although starter Justin Fields was under heavy pressure when in the game, Seattle didn't send the same level of pressure when Siemian played. However, he mostly threw short passes and completed just over half of his attempts. He appears to have a solid hold on the No. 2 quarterback role.

Solid performance
Siemian completed seven of 13 passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the Bears' 19-14 win over the Chiefs on Saturday.
Analysis: Siemian entered the game after Justin Fields and the starters finished their work for the day. The veteran backup threw scoring passes to Trestan Ebner and Dazz Newsome against the Chiefs' backup defenders. It's likely that Siemian will be the No. 2 quarterback for Chicago going into the regular season.

Enters camp as No. 2 quarterback
Trevor Siemian is expected to serve as Justin Fields' backup Dustin Riese of ChicagoBearsHQ.com reports.
Analysis: In his five-year career, Siemian has made starts for both the Broncos and Saints. After posting a 30:24 TD:INT in three years with Denver, he had an impressive 11:3 TD:INT with the Saints last year. However, he's yet to reach a 60 percent completion rate in any season during his career. He'd likely be an emergency fantasy option if Fields missed time.

Joining Bears QB room
Siemian signed a two-year deal with the Bears on Thursday, according to his agent, Mike McCartney.
Analysis: Siemian spent the 2021 season primarily as the backup in New Orleans. However, he did start for a string of five games in the middle of the season, during which he completed 57.2 percent of his passes for 1,083 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions. Wins in relief
Siemian completed nine of 15 passes for 71 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-20 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Siemian was forced into the game after Taysom Hill (foot) exited with a foot injury in the first half. The Saints relied heavily on Alvin Kamara and the run game, though Siemian was effective when called upon. He led the offense to the end zone twice, throwing for scores from 13 and five yards away. After serving as the backup and making spot starts in New Orleans for the 2021 season, Siemian will hit free agency this offseason and will likely look for another backup role around the league.

Removed from COVID-19 list
The Saints activated Siemian (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Likewise for Taysom Hill (illness), allowing the Saints to have a more desirable Hill-Siemian setup at the top of the quarterback depth chart heading into Sunday's game against the Panthers. Siemian will serve as Hill's backup moving forward, while Week 16 starter Ian Book slides back down to third in the pecking order.

The Saints didn't activate Siemian (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list, making him ineligible to play Monday versus the Dolphins, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: Taysom Hill (illness) also wasn't activated from the COVID-19 list, leaving Ian Book to handle his first NFL start and practice squad call-up Blake Bortles as the Saints' Week 16 backup quarterback. Siemian's next chance to be available to the offense arrives Sunday versus the Panthers.

Analysis: Siemian was one of nine New Orleans players added to the list Thursday, all the result of positive COVID-19 tests, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. If Siemian is vaccinated and asymptomatic, he'll be eligible to play Monday against the Dolphins, but the Saints already seem to be proceeding as though neither he nor top signal-caller Taysom Hill (illness) will be available to return from the list Week 16. Bound for COVID-19 list
Siemian tested positive for the coronavirus and will be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list later Thursday, Jeff Duncan of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Analysis: The Saints are dealing with a minor COVID-19 outbreak at the moment, as Siemian is set to join tight ends Adam Trautman and Juwan Johnson on the list, while head coach Sean Payton and multiple executives in the organization have also tested positive in recent days. If Siemian isn't able to test out of NFL's COVID-19 protocol prior to Monday's game against the Dolphins, rookie Ian Book would serve as the backup to starting quarterback Taysom Hill.

Headed for backup role
Siemian will serve as the Saints' backup quarterback Thursday against the Cowboys with New Orleans set to give Taysom Hill his first start of the season, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Head coach Sean Payton stopped short of saying the Saints would be making a change at quarterback Week 13, acknowledging that he wanted to see how Hill -- who is nursing a foot injury -- fared at Wednesday's practice before naming a starter. The fact that Hill doesn't carry a designation into Thursday's contest confirms that he'll be ready to make his first start of the season, ending Siemian's four-game tenure atop the depth chart. Works with No. 2 offense
Siemian was working with the Saints' No. 2 offense during Monday's practice session, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Siemian had served as the starting quarterback in each of the last four games, but he struggled in Thursday's loss to Buffalo. He completed 17 of 29 passes for 163 yards, a touchdown and an interception while rushing three times for three yards on Thanksgiving Day. Poor Thanksgiving performance
Siemian completed 17 of 29 passes for 163 yards with one touchdown and one interception during Thursday's 31-6 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Siemian yet again led a lethargic offensive effort that barely threatened Buffalo's strong pass defense and headed into into the contest minus top running backs Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. Meanwhile, Taysom Hill -- who has been managing a foot issue -- was active and served as the lone backup quarterback Thursday, but didn't take a snap. Mixed performance in loss
Siemian completed 22 of 40 passes for 214 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the Saints' 40-29 loss to the Eagles on Sunday. He also rushed twice for 16 yards and another score.
Analysis: The journeyman signal-caller's proverbial carriage turned into somewhat of a pumpkin Sunday, although Siemian's four total touchdowns were certainly welcome from a fantasy perspective. However, from a football perspective, Siemian may have hurt as much as he helped, as one of his two interceptions was returned for a pick-six by Darius Slay, while two of his touchdown passes and his rushing score came in a fourth quarter the Saints entered trailing 33-7. Analysis: Siemian drew his second consecutive start and had his best showing of the season. He averaged 8.8 yards per attempt, in large part thanks to completing six passes of 20 yards or more. Siemian also threw for multiple touchdowns for the second consecutive game, as he connected with Tre'Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway for scores of 11 and 15 yards, respectively. Named starter again
Siemian will start Sunday's game in Tennessee, but coach Sean Payton did suggest Friday that the Saints will have packages for Taysom Hill as well, John DeShazier of the Saints' official site reports.
Analysis: Hill took just three direct snaps (and 17 offensive snaps overall) in the Week 9 loss to Atlanta, but that was his first game back in action after spending three weeks in concussion protocol. He could have a larger role this weekend, though Siemian figures to get most of the pass attempts after completing 25 of 41 throws for 249 yards and two touchdowns last week. In fact, the soon-to-be 30-year-old led a go-ahead touchdown drive with just over a minute left in regulation only for the Falcons to come back the other way with a game-winning field goal. Analysis: Siemian played well in the aftermath of Winston's ACL tear last week, completing 16 of 19 passes for one touchdown while leading the Saints to a victory over the Buccaneers. Manages win in relief of Winston
Siemian completed 16 of 29 passes for 159 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions during Sunday's 36-27 win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: After Jameis Winston awkwardly bent his knee while being tackled, Siemian took over and did just enough for the Saints to squeak out the win, which was aided by New Orleans' pick-six of Tom Brady with less than two minutes in regulation. With Taysom Hill (concussion) having yet to practice since going down in Week 7, Siemian could be in line to start against Atlanta in Week 9 as the last man standing. Analysis: Siemian hasn't played since suffering a severe ankle injury in Week 2 of the 2019 season, but he's back to full health. With Drew Brees (ribs) on injured reserve, Siemian will join the Saints to serve as the No. 3 quarterback behind Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston once he clears the protocols for joining a new team.

Makes practice squad
The Titans signed Siemian to the practice squad Monday, Jim Wyatt of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Siemian joined the Titans mid-August, but he wasn't able to make it through final roster cuts. Instead, the 2015 seventh-round pick will remain on the practice squad as an emergency option at quarterback.

Released by Titans
Siemian was released by the Titans on Saturday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Siemian had only been with the Titans for a little over two weeks so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to see him hit the road. Logan Woodside is now penciled in as the backup to Ryan Tannehill while Siemian figures to at least have some sort of market down the road, even if he's not necessarily with a team to begin the 2020 campaign.

Lands deal with Tennessee
Siemian agreed to a contract with the Titans on Wednesday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: In a corresponding move, the team waived seventh-round pick Cole McDonald, who had been penciled in as the team's No. 3 signal-caller behind Ryan Tannehill and Logan Woodside. Siemian, a seventh-round pick himself (in 2015), gives the Titans a quarterback with prior NFL starting experience behind Tannehill, who signed a long-term extension in March.

Recovers from ankle injury
Siemian has made a full recovery from ankle surgery and is set to become a free agent, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Siemian stepped in as the Jets' starting quarterback when Sam Darnold was diagnosed with mononucleosis in September, but the veteran lasted just 18 snaps before suffering a season-ending ankle injury that involved ligament damage. Now given a clean bill of health, Siemian will look for a No. 2 job somewhere, with a return to the Jets not out of the question.
