Accuracy dips in 2021
Fairbairn converted 15 of 19 field-goal attempts and 13 of 16 extra-point tries across 13 games in 2021.
Analysis: Fairbairn posted less than an 80 percent field-goal conversion rate for the first time in his career during the 2021 campaign, but with just 19 total attempts, a small sample size should be noted. The Texans have an option to exercise a potential 'out' in Fairbairn's contract this offseason, which would leave the team with only $1.5 million in dead cap.

Misses lone FGA
Fairbairn was unsuccessful on his lone field-goal attempt and converted his only extra-point kick in Sunday's 23-7 loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Fairbairn was wide left on a 45-yard attempt early in the fourth quarter, which could have tied the game had he converted. With a short field, San Francisco made it a two-score game just four plays later. Houston's offense staggered through much of Sunday's contest, so the miss was a pivotal swing. Fairbairn has made 14 of 18 field-goal kicks and two of four from 40-49 yards this season.

Returns from COVID list
Houston activated Fairbairn (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
Analysis: Fairbairn will reclaim kicking duties for Houston after Dominik Eberle filled in Week 16 against the Chargers while Fairbarn recovered from the virus. The Texans have scored 71 points while notching consecutive wins, so Fairbairn could have some sneaky upside Week 17 in San Francisco if quarterback Davis Mills and the Houston passing game is able to keep rolling against the 49ers' suspect secondary.

Remains on COVID list
Dominik Eberle has been elevated from the Texans' practice squad to fill in for Fairbairn, who is still on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Analysis: With Fairbairn on the COVID list, Eberle is in line to handle the Texans' kicking duties Sunday against the Chargers. Fairbairn will thus target a potential return to action in Week 17.

Added to COVID list
Houston placed Fairbairn on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
Analysis: According to Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston, linebacker Eric Wilson is the only unvaccinated player on the Texans roster, which means Fairbairn was placed on the list after testing positive for the virus. Fairbairn will thus have an outside chance of clearing the NFL's return-to-play COVID-19 protocol before Sunday's game against the Chargers, but if he can't play this week, Houston will have to sign an out-of-house replacement. Old kicker returns
Fairbairn successfully converted three of three field-goal attempts and three of three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 30-16 win over Jacksonville.
Analysis: It's been a down season for many on the Texans' roster, including Fairbairn, who missed the first three weeks of the season with a leg injury and struggled with accuracy while performing for an offensively challenged team. Week 15 featured a return to form for Fairbairn, the kicker that was on display for Houston the previous four seasons. Sunday's 12-point outburst was a season high, and he booted two field goals from beyond 50 yards. Fairbairn's made four of six from long distance this season…read more

Goes ultra long in loss
Fairbairn converted two of two field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point kick in Sunday's 33-13 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Fairbairn nailed a 21-yarder and then connected from 61 yards out as time ran out in the first half. The usually sure-footed kicker has been plagued by misses in 2021, but the long-distance kick is reminder of previous productive seasons when Houston's offense wasn't such a mess. Fairbairn has 40 points over 10 games this season.

Little work in loss
Fairbairn did not have any scoring attempts in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: The Texans entered Indianapolis' side of the field on just two of 11 drives, both times in the fourth quarter, and Houston was not in position to kick field goals. It was the second time this season that Fairbairn was on the field for just one snap.

Misses one kick in loss
Fairbairn missed his lone field-goal attempt and made two of two extra-point kicks in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Fairbairn's 55-yard attempt was wide left and was the last sniff Houston had at scoring. Fantasy managers looking for placekickers should avoid Fairbairn, who kicks for a team that's scored just 12.5 points per game over the last six weeks.

Misses extra point
Fairbairn made all three of his field-goal attempts but missed one of two extra-point tries in Sunday's 22-13 win over the Titans.
Analysis: Fairbairn split the uprights from 43, 24 and 37 yards on his field goals, helping him reach double-digit points despite his misfired PAT. After that season-best tally, Fairbairn will strive to keep his scoring touch in Week 12 versus the Jets.

Converts three FGAs
Fairbairn was successful on three of three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 17-9 loss to Miami.
Analysis: Fairbairn's three field-goal attempts and nine points were a season high, which may be attributed to the return of Tyrod Taylor at quarterback. The placekicker entered Sunday's contest with 12 points over the previous five weeks, all games started by rookie quarterback Davis Mills.

Makes two extra points
Fairbairn missed his lone field-goal attempt and made two of two extra-point kicks in Sunday's 38-22 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Fairbairn was wide right on a 45-yard attempt on the final play of the first half. It's been a rough season for the usually consistent kicker, who has amassed just 12 points over five games. Most of that is due to the team's poor offense, but Fairbairn hasn't helped matters by missing two of five extra-point attempts.

Converts lone attempt
Fairbairn was successful on his lone field-goal attempt, a 53-yard effort, in Sunday's 31-5 loss to Arizona.
Analysis: Fairbairn's established a strong leg and accuracy during his stay in Houston, but he's challenged by an offense that has scored just 30 points over the last four games. Sunday's game was the third time in those four games he's had just one field-goal attempt. If or until the offense can get on track, Fairbairn is a placekicker to avoid. The silver lining is that Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) could return Week 8 against the Rams, which could generate more offense.

Converts lone attempt
Fairbairn successfully converted his lone field-goal attempt in Sunday's 31-3 loss to Indianapolis.
Analysis: Fairbairn has been uber quiet since returning from the injured list Week 4. He's missed three of six attempts, including two extra-point misses, and the offense hasn't afforded Fairbairn many chances.

Rough game
Fairbairn converted one of two field-goal attempts and one of three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Fairbairn's typically a better kicker than he showed Sunday, so the temptation is to write this off as a bad week. The missed field goal was an excusable 56-yard try, but the two missed extra points and a kickoff that went out of bounds were problematic. It should be noted that these were his first attempts since returning from a leg injury in Week 4. Other than a kickoff, he did not make the field during last week's 40-0 loss to Buffalo.

No kicks in return
Fairbairn did not attempt a kick in Sunday's 40-0 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Fairbairn was active for the first time this season after overcoming a leg injury, but the kicker didn't have any scoring opportunities as Houston was blanked in Buffalo. The veteran will hope to get a few chances to show his stuff in Week 5 versus the Patriots.

Set for Week 4
Fairbairn was activated off injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Analysis: Fairbairn missed the first three games while recovering from a leg injury, but the 27-year-old will make his return Week 4 in what figures to be a difficult matchup against a tough Buffalo defense. Fairbairn will replace Joey Slye, who was waived earlier this week after going 11-of-13 on total kicks to start the season.

Expected back Week 4
The Texans plan to add Fairbairn (leg) to the 53-man roster this week and have him assume kicking duties Sunday against the Bills, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. "I expect him to," head coach David Culley said of Fairbairn's pending return from injured reserve.
Analysis: After missing the Texans' first three games while recovering from a leg injury, Fairbairn was designated to return from injured reserve Monday and took part in practice that day. Houston has apparently been satisfied with how Fairbairn has checked out during his first couple of workouts, with special teams coordinator Frank Ross telling Aaron Reiss of The Athletic on Thursday that the kicker is ready to play. Designated to return from IR
Fairbairn (leg) was designated to return from injured reserve by the Texans on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: With the move, Fairbairn will have a three-week window to be added to the active roster. If not, he'll remain on IR. Coach David Culley has expressed confidence that, when healthy, Fairbairn will be Houston's kicker, so it's safe to assume he will overtake Joey Slye if he is activated.

David Culley said Friday that Fairbairn (leg) will be re-evaluated Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Analysis: Fairbairn was placed on IR before the Texans' season opener and will be eligible to return during Week 4 if he is healthy. Joey Slye has connected on four of his five field-goal attempts and seven of his eight PATs while filling in for Fairbairn, but he hasn't done enough to win the job. Culley said, "If [Fairbairn] is ready to go, we'll go with him".

The Texans placed Fairbairn (leg) on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Fairbairn, who suffered a leg injury during pregame warmups prior to Houston's third preseason game, will thus sit out at least the team's first three games. In the wake of the move, look for the Texans to promote Joey Slye from their practice squad in advance of Sunday's season opener against the Jaguars.

Fairbairn (leg) won't kick in Sunday's season opener against the Jaguars, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.

Should be ready for Week 1
Fairbairn was held out of Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers after tweaking a leg muscle pregame, but the injury isn't expected to affect his availability for Week 1 versus the Jaguars, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Coach David Culley said Fairbairn would have been able to play were it the regular season, so the kicker's absence appears to have been a precautionary measure. There's not much concern over the issue, and the 27-year-old will have a couple weeks to get back to full health before the Sept. 12 matchup with Jacksonville.

Fairbairn was held out of Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers due to a minor injury, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Fairbairn's absence is merely a precautionary measure, and likely one to ensure he's as healthy as possible for the regular season. The Texans next take the field Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Jaguars.

Perfect again
Fairbairn made two of two field-goal attempts and both extra points in Saturday's 20-14 win over Dallas in Preseason Week 2.
Analysis: Fairbairn has converted all six field-goal tries over the first two preseason games and is poised for a potentially productive season, if the offense fails to finish drives. Houston's offense stumbled for a second straight week, producing its lone touchdown after the defense forced a turnover on the Cowboys' first drive of the game.

Makes all four FGAs
Fairbairn was successful on all four of his field-goal attempts in Saturday's 26-7 win over the Packers in Preseason Week 1.
Analysis: Fairbairn connected from 37, 25, 41 and 42 yards in the win, as the offense failed to finish off multiple drives. That could be a harbinger of the regular season for an offense that features several new pieces under a new head coach. The four three-pointers in one game resembles the 2018 season, when Fairbairn led the NFL with 42 field-goal attempts and 150 points.

Big game in finale
Fairbairn successfully made all four field-goal attempts, including a 51-yarder, and two of three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 41-38 loss to Tennessee.
Analysis: Fairbairn had a season-high 14 points and calmly drilled the 51-yarder with 18 seconds left to tie the game at 38-38. Unfortunately, Houston's sketchy defense gave up a big play and his heroics were for naught. Fairbairn finished the season with 118 points -- his third consecutive year with more than 100 points -- and he was successful on 87 percent of his field-goal attempts. He inked a four-year deal prior to the 2020 season and should be back for 2021.

Fairbairn made his lone field-goal attempt and four of four extra-point kicks in Sunday's 37-31 loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Fairbairn's production in Week 16 leaves him with 104 points, the fourth straight season he's crossed the 100-point threshold. With one week left in 2020, the UCLA grad has averaged 111.5 points while connecting on 84 percent of field-goal attempts and 92.4 percent of extra-point kicks.

Makes all kicks in loss
Fairbairn was successful on two of two field-goal attempts and made both of his extra-point kicks in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Fairbairn benefitted from Houston's failure in the red zone, where they scored just one touchdown over four trips. The eight-point effort gives him 97 for the season, which puts him in the middle of pack heading into Week 16 against the Bengals, who are tied for 30th in fantasy points allowed to kickers.

Gets near day off in loss
Fairbairn did not have a field-goal attempt and made his lone extra-point kick in Sunday's 36-7 loss to the Bears.
Analysis: The Texans were down 30-7 at halftime and were in no need of field goals from Fairbairn, who had averaged nearly nine points over the previous three games. Houston's lone second-half, red-zone drive stalled out on downs. On a related note, quarterback Deshaun Watson took a beating Sunday (six sacks, 11 quarterback hits) and left the game briefly with an elbow injury. Misses extra point
Fairbairn made two of two field-goal attempts and three of four extra-point kicks in Thursday's 41-25 win over Detroit.
Analysis: Fairbairn's extra-point miss was his second of the season. He went wide left after Houston's first score of the day, but the failure did not come back to bite the Texans, who scored on six of their 12 possessions and had a defensive touchdown. Fairbairn, who has recorded nine points in three of the past four games, is tied for 22nd in kicker scoring with 7.27 points per game.

Fairbairn missed his lone field-goal attempt and successfully converted his lone extra-point kick in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Browns.
Analysis: Fairbairn's wind-blown 46-yard attempt sailed wide left, his third miss of the season. The Texans eschewed a field-goal try earlier in the game when interim head coach Romeo Crennel opted to go for it on fourth down inside the Browns' five-yard line, an attempt that proved unsuccessful. Fairbairn converted his lone field-goal attempt and three of four extra-point kicks in Sunday's 42-36 overtime loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Fairbairn's first missed extra point of the season turned out to be costly. Had he made the kick, Texans head coach Romeo Crennel would not have felt the need to go for a two-point conversion later (it failed). Takes advantage in red zone
Fairbairn converted all three field-goal attempts and two extra-point kicks in Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: Fairbairn was the beneficiary of Houston's failure to finish in the red-zone (zero TDs in three trips), although he got a chance to show off his leg with a boot from 50 yards out. His 11 points were a season high and marked his second double-digit tally of the season. Registers 10-pointer
Fairbairn made all three of his field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point kick for 10 points in Sunday's 33-16 loss to the Ravens in Week 2.
Analysis: Fairbairn rebounded from a disappointing two-point effort Week 1. The Texans' offense made only two forays into the red zone, so they needed Fairbairn's leg more than they would like, including boots of 44 and 45 yards. Houston's offense hasn't been in sync the first two games, which could make for inconsistency from Fairbairn. Staying with Houston
Fairbairn is signing a four-year contract to stay with the Texans, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: The 26-year-old kicker played all 16 games each of the past three seasons, converting 83.7 percent of field-goal attempts and 91.7 percent of extra-point tries, including 10 of 16 from 50-plus yards. Fairbairn's volume has been far less consistent than his accuracy -- 25 FGAs in 2017, a league-high 42 in 2018, and then 25 again in 2019. Fairbairn converted one of two field-goal attempts and four of four extra-point kicks in Sunday's 51-31 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: In a game that became a shootout, one in which the Chiefs scored touchdowns on seven consecutive drives, sending Fairbairn out to attempt field goals was not part of the thought process in the second half. Analysis: With nothing on the line for the Texans, head coach Bill O'Brien limited his skill position players, including quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who dressed but did not play. Running back Carlos Hyde (five snaps) and Darren Fells (two special teams snaps) were kept under wraps most of the day, while Kenny Stills (knee) and Will Fuller V (groin) were inactive. That resulted in an nonexplosive offense that limited Fairbairn's opportunities to put points on the board.

Delivers division-clinching win
Fairbairn successfully converted all three field-goal attempts and two extra-point kicks in Saturday's 23-20 win over Tampa Bay in Week 16.
Analysis: In a throwback to 2018, the Texans' offense stalled three times in the Buccaneers' red zone and needed Fairbairn to bail things out. He did so from 32, 25 and 37 yards, the last one being the game-winning score that clinched the AFC South for the Texans. Fairbairn has 98 points, which is middle of the pack among kickers, entering the regular-season finale against the Titans next week.

Perfect in Week 15 win
Fairbairn made his lone field-goal attempt and all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 24-21 win over the Titans in Week 15.
Analysis: The Texans were in the red zone five times and converted three for touchdowns. The other two ended with Fairbairn's 29-yard field goal and an interception. He has just 22 field-goal attempts in 2019 after a league-leading 42 tries last season. Houston's red-zone efficiency has robbed Fairbairn of opportunities; however, the third-year kicker is in line for a potentially productive Week 15 when Houston faces Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers rank 30th in scoring defense.

Scores six points in loss
Fairbairn made his lone field-goal attempt and all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 38-24 loss to Denver in Week 14.
Analysis: Fairbairn showed off his leg once again, connecting on a 54-yard field goal for Houston's lone first-half score, but that was his lone FGA. Houston fell behind 31-3 at half time, and playing for field goals was not an option in the second half. Fairbairn's made three of six from beyond the 50 this season and 10 of 16 over his career.

Marginalized in win
Fairbairn made all four of his extra-point kicks for four points in Sunday's 28-22 win over New England.
Analysis: The Texans were in the business of scoring touchdowns against New England's top-ranked scoring defense, which limited Fairbairn's scoring opportunities. Houston scored touchdowns on four of its five trips to New England's side of the field.

Perfect in Week 12 win
Fairbairn made both of his field-goal attempts and both extra-point kicks in Thursday's 20-17 win over the Colts .
Analysis: Fairbairn connected from 35 and 36 yards and remains a perfect 9-for-9 inside the 40-yard line. His overall productivity, however, has dropped off in 2019, largely due to Houston scoring more touchdowns when entering the red zone. Fairbairn ranks 23rd among kickers with 6.5 points per game.

Low output in Week 11
Fairbairn missed his lone field-goal attempt and converted one extra-point kick in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Ravens in Week 11.
Analysis: Fairbairn was wide right late in the first half on a 43-yard attempt, his second miss in as many weeks. It was the fifth time in 10 games that Fairbairn has been held to one field goal or fewer.

Has one kick blocked
Fairbairn made two of three field-goal attempts and two of three extra-point kicks for eight points in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Fairbairn can't be faulted on either miss. The unsuccessful field goal was from 58 yards in the waning moments of the first half, while the extra-point miss was blocked. His two makes were from 42 and 52 yards. After a shaky start to the season, the third-year kicker has righted himself over the last three weeks. However, with just 17 FGA in nine games, Fairbairn is well off his scoring pace of 2018.
