Will retire from football
Carson (neck) is retiring from the NFL, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Carson reportedly will be released with a failed physical designation before he officially retires. He started 48 of 49 games in his five seasons with Seattle, averaging 4.6 YPC and 71.5 rushing yards per game. A serious neck injury ended his 2021 campaign after four appearances, and Carson now retires with 3,502 career rushing yards, 804 receiving yards and 31 total TDs.

Not at minicamp
Carson (neck) wasn't present at the first day of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Carson is recovering from November neck surgery and wasn't expected to be on the field for the OTAs or minicamp. Head coach Pete Carroll has stated that the team won't know whether Carson will be medically cleared until he handles contact, which won't be until training camp. Fantasy managers should avoid Carson outside of deeper leagues. His injury is cause for plenty of concern and the crowded running back room will limit his upside if he's ultimately cleared.

Return remains uncertain
Head coach Pete Carroll didn't provide a timeline for Carson's (neck) return to full speed, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports. "We won't know for some time here, and we can't predict it yet. So there is a little bit of uncertainty that we are waiting on," Carroll said.
Analysis: The Seahawks' decision to draft running back Kenneth Walker in the second round (41st overall) of the NFL Draft after already signing Rashaad Penny to a one-year deal should make us more wary of Carson's health than any of Carroll's press conference. Carson is still recovering from November neck surgery, and he wasn't guaranteed the starting role even before the draft. The 27-year-old simply can't match the explosiveness of Penny or Walker, so if he's able to make a return, his impact for…read more

Still up in the air
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said Thursday that he has no new update on Carson, who had surgery on his neck in November, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Reports last fall/winter suggested Carson's neck injury could be career-threatening, and while the Seahawks haven't used those terms, Carroll did say there's not much the team can do for now besides wait and see what happens. They re-signed Rashaad Penny in March after his big finish to the 2021 campaign, potentially setting up a committee if Carson is able to play again. It doesn't sound like the 27-year-old running back will be cleared to practice anytime soon.

Could return at training camp
Head coach Pete Carroll said Monday that he expects Carson (neck) to be ready for training camp, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Carson played just four games this season before suffering a neck injury, which he attempted to return from before undergoing season-ending surgery in November. Carroll is notoriously optimistic about his player's injuries, and neck injuries tend to be tricky, so we should take his report with a grain of salt. If Carson does return for training camp, he may have to settle for a backup role to Rashaad Penny, who rushed for 671 yards (7.3 YPC) and six touchdowns over the final five games this…read more

Neck surgery imminent
Carson is slated to undergo disc fusion surgery on his neck and should be healthy "late in the spring," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle on Monday.
Analysis: The news confirms Carson's season is over after the running back struggled to recover from neck soreness that first surfaced Week 5. Carroll's comments indicate Carson should complete his recovery from the procedure in time for at least part of the offseason program, but it'll be interesting to see the composition of the Seahawks backfield following free agency and the draft. Carson currently is under contract through 2023, while Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas have deals through 2022 and 2023,…read more

Scheduled for season-ending surgery
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Carson (neck) will soon have season-ending surgery, though Carroll is confident the running back will return in 2022, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Analysis: The possibility of season-ending surgery has loomed for a few weeks now, if not longer, though for a couple days Carson appeared as though he might make it back for a Week 10 game against the Packers. He returned to practice last Wednesday and Thursday, but he then was held out Friday and kept on injured reserve for the eventual loss in Green Bay. Not progressing as hoped
Carson won't practice Wednesday, with head coach Pete Carroll noting that the running back hasn't progressed in his recovery from a neck injury the way the Seahawks had hoped, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Carroll didn't go into much detail, but his negative commentary of Carson's health suggests that another absence is on tap Week 11 against the Cardinals. Additionally, Carson -- who was designated for return from injured reserve Nov. 10 -- looks to be at increased risk of remaining on IR for the rest of the season and not playing again in 2021. Alex Collins has been filling in as the lead runner while Carson has been sidelined, with Travis Homer ranking as the Seahawks' preferred back for third…read more

Status remains unknown
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that the Seahawks will be "revisiting" Carson's (neck) status Wednesday, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: Carson is less than a week into his 21-day window to practice and put himself in a position to return from injured reserve. He was able to practice last Wednesday and Thursday, but the team held him out Friday and ultimately determined his neck wasn't fit for Week 10 action. It's unclear exactly where Carson stands in his recovery from a sore neck that has sidelined him for five games, but as long as he's unavailable to Seattle's backfield, Alex Collins will handle most of the work while Travis…read more

Won't return in Week 10
The Seahawks won't activate Carson (neck) from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's contest at Green Bay, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports. "We don't feel like it's time yet, so we're going to keep him out," Carroll said Friday.
Analysis: After Seattle designated Carson for return Wednesday, he mixed into practice both Wednesday and Thursday, but he didn't take part in Friday's session, according to Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle. As hinted at by Carroll, Carson likely still is dealing with some discomfort in his neck and will remain on IR for at least another week. The Seahawks thus will hand the rock to Alex Collins while Russell Wilson (finger) makes his return to action this weekend. Behind Collins, the trio…read more

Likely game-time call
Carson (neck) is expected to be a game-time decision for Sunday's game at Green Bay, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: The 27-year-old returned to practice this week after sitting out the past four games with a neck injury, but he has yet to fully prove in practice that he's ready for game action. Carson will need to be activated from injured reserve ahead of Saturday's roster deadline to have a chance of suiting up Sunday, otherwise his potential return will be pushed to Week 11.

Could play if practice goes well
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Carson (neck) is no longer dealing with discomfort but still needs to be evaluated throughout the week of practice in order to have a chance to return from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game in Green Bay, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks are hoping Carson can make it back as soon as Sunday, though they'll have a 21-day window to reinstate him to the active roster after designating him to return from IR. All outcomes seem to be in play for Carson, who could start this Sunday if practice goes well, whereas a setback could send him to the season-ending version of IR. There won't be any official practice status for Carson on Wednesday (or Thursday and Friday, in all likelihood), as he's still on injured reserve and…read more

Returns to practice Wednesday
The Seahawks designated Carson (neck) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: As head coach Pete Carroll predicted Monday, Carson returned to practice Wednesday after the Seahawks officially opened his 21-day window for evaluation. Carroll also told Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times that the team will take it "one day at a time" with Carson as he aims to get past the sore neck that sidelined him for four games before a Week 9 bye. Carson (neck) is in line to return to practice Wednesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks have yet to designate Carson for return from injured reserve, which is the procedural move that must happen for the running back to get back on the practice field. Coach Pete Carroll said Monday the team is taking Carson's situation "one day at a time" as he recovers from the sore neck that so far has kept him sidelined for four contests. Not tabbed to practice yet
Carson (neck) has yet to be designated for a return from IR, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Pete Carroll indicated last week that the running back was targeting a potential return to practice in advance of this Sunday's game against the Packers, but that has yet to happen, which clouds Carson's Week 10 status. If he's unable to return to action this weekend, Alex Collins, Rashaad Penny, Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas would continue to handle Seattle's backfield duties.

Plans to return after bye
Head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Carson (neck) plans to resume practicing and return to the field Week 10 against the Packers, after Seattle's Week 9 bye, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Before gaining clearance for the Nov. 14 matchup, Carson will first have to clear a number of medical hurdles. After all, Carroll said as recently as Friday that Carson could be in danger of missing the season. The starting running back's neck injury has kept him sidelined since Week 4. Quarterback Russell Wilson (finger) is also a candidate to return from injured reserve ahead of the game in Green Bay.

Could miss rest of season
Coach Pete Carroll acknowledged Friday that Carson (neck) is in danger of missing the rest of the season, though the Seahawks still hope he can "make a turn" and get back on the field this year, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: Carroll previously mentioned an indefinite timeline, and he's now using terms like "got to make a turn" and "fingers crossed" when discussing a potential return for his starting running back, according to Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle. That's not to say a return in 2021 should be ruled out, but it is clear the Seahawks aren't counting on it. No timetable yet
Coach Pete Carroll on Saturday suggested Carson (neck) is without a firm timetable for return, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Carson isn't eligible to return off injured reserve until Week 10 at the earliest so it's not entirely surprising to hear this assessment, but it's worth reiterating given the ambiguity regarding the veteran's neck injury suffered all the way back in early October. Alex Collins, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer have done a respectable job of covering the workload in Carson's absence, and Rashaad Penny (calf) could also contribute in the coming weeks, but without Russell Wilson (finger) the…read more

Placed on IR, out through Week 9
Carson (neck) was placed on injured reserve Friday, ruling him out through Week 9, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Carson already has missed one game and now will be out for at least three more. His earliest possible return is Week 10 (Sunday, Nov. 14) against the Packers, as his neck injury apparently hasn't healed the way the Seahawks had hoped. Alex Collins, DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer will be the team's running backs Sunday night against the Steelers, with Rashaad Penny (calf) potentially returning from IR for Week 7 versus New Orleans.

Could land on IR
Coach Pete Carroll acknowledged Friday that the Seahawks may place Carson (neck) on injured reserve, with the running back now ruled out for a second straight game, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Carroll suggested it was a discussion rather than a decision, whereas for QB Russell Wilson (finger) it's a matter of when, not if, he'll be placed on IR. The coach was optimistic about Carson at the beginning of the week, but the running back is now set to miss a second straight game and likely more. Alex Collins figures to be the lead runner Sunday night in Pittsburgh, backed up by DeeJay Dallas and Travis Homer.

Carson (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Coach Pete Carroll was optimistic earlier in the week, but the sentiment faded after Carson missed practice Thursday when he'd previously been scheduled to return (according to Carroll). With Carson out last week, Alex Collins got 15 carries and three targets on 71 percent snap share in a 26-17 loss to the Rams. Still sitting out practice
Carson (neck) didn't practice for a second consecutive day Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: When relaying to Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic that Carson wouldn't practice Wednesday, coach Pete Carroll said the running back would return to the field Thursday, but that didn't come to pass. This may be a worrisome sign for Carson, who is dealing with a neck issue that flared up prior to last Thursday's game against the Rams and kept him on the sideline. Carson (neck) isn't practicing Wednesday but is scheduled to return to the field Thursday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Seahawks head coach Pete Caroll said Monday that Carson had taken "a big turn" over the weekend, with the running back's sore neck apparently improving a few days after the team lost quarterback Russell Wilson to a finger injury in the 26-17 loss to the Rams last Thursday. Carson's neck improved this weekend, which could put him in line to return for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Analysis: Coach Pete Carroll said Carson took "a big turn" with his sore neck but also added, "We'll see how it goes," as it pertains to the running back's potential to play, per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. In Carson's place last Thursday against the Rams, Alex Collins logged 71 percent of the offensive snaps on his way to 17 touches for 72 yards from scrimmage. Labeled day-to-day
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll labeled Carson (neck) as day-to-day Friday and wouldn't commit to the running back being available for the team's Week 6 game in Pittsburgh, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Before being inactive for Thursday's 26-17 loss to the Rams, Carson was listed as questionable and was believed to be a true game-time decision for that contest, but Carroll's comments suggest that the running back may not have been that close to playing. In any case, Carson's sore neck isn't expected to be a long-term concern, and he should benefit from the longer turnaround for the Week 6 game, which will take place Oct. 17. Analysis: Carson popped up on the Seahawks' injury report Tuesday, when he failed to practice due to a sore neck. It's apparently an issue that he deals with occasionally, and when it flares up, like it did this week, he won't be able to go, per Jordan Schultz of ESPN. Analysis: With the Seahawks working on a short week, they may be without their top running back after his neck recently flared up. Carson is dealing with a lot of discomfort, and his availability appears as if it'll come down to how he fares in a pre-game warmup. A game-time call thus is likely, which will be known about 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. Analysis: Carson suddenly showed up on Seattle's practice report Tuesday as a non-participant due to a neck injury. With the team preparing to play its second game in the span of five days, the Seahawks may be without one of their primary playmakers Thursday. With an injury emerging two days before a Week 5 showdown against the Rams, a cloud now hangs over the statuses of Carson and the rest of the Seattle running backs. Carson carried the ball 12 times for 80 yards and a touchdown and caught both his targets for two yards in Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: The fifth-year back had a big first half and scored on a 30-yard romp early in the second quarter, but Carson only saw three touches after halftime as the Seahawks' offense stagnated. Analysis: The Seahawks shifted to a pass-heavy game plan Sunday, but Carson was the clear lead back, logging 13 of the team's 14 running-back carries. He wasn't effective with his limited touches, recording 2.4 yards per carry. However, he cashed in with two goal-line scores. The Seahawks will travel to Minnesota for a Week 3 showdown next.

Posts 117 combined yards in win
Carson rushed 16 times for 91 yards and caught all three targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 28-16 win over the Colts.

No other Seattle running back had more than two carries in this one. Still, the Seahawks tried to manage his reps last season, as he logged just 11.8 carries per game. After sitting out Tuesday and logging a limited session Wednesday, he's set to lead the Seahawks backfield yet again this weekend. Since returning to action Week 12 after four games missed due to a mid-foot sprain, Carson has averaged 15 touches for 83 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring three TDs over six contests.

Upgrades to limited participation
Carson (foot) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: Carson upgraded his participation after sitting out of Tuesday's practice. For both practice sessions, he was designated with a "load management" tag to go along with the foot injury. The fourth-year running back has logged limited practices ever since returning from a foot sprain Week 12, but he's on track to play in Saturday's wild-card game against the Rams. Carson has averaged 16 touches and 87.8 yards from scrimmage per game over the past five weeks, scoring two touchdowns in that stretch.

Starts week with DNP
Carson (foot) was a non-participant at Tuesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks typically manage Carson's reps during the practice week, and they're explicitly doing so once again. Along with the foot injury, the Seahawks listed Carson with a "load management" tag. If Carson's absence extends into Wednesday and Thursday's practices, then there will be some cause for concern. Carson has logged between 13 and 19 touches in each of the past five games, and he's expected to handle a similar role in Saturday's wild-card game against the Rams.

Posts 83 yards in win
Carson (foot) rushed 11 times for 44 yards and caught both of his targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 26-23 win over San Francisco.
Analysis: Carson finishes the 2020 regular season with 681 rushing yards and five touchdowns over 12 games. While this appears to be a step backward after eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark each of the last two years, the power back actually set new career highs in yards per carry (4.9), receiving yards (287) and receiving touchdowns (four) while missing four games due to injury. Cleared to play
Carson (foot) doesn't have a designation on the final injury report for Sunday's game at San Francisco, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks have managed Carson's practice reps ever since he returned from a four-game absence Week 12. He's averaging 12.8 carries, 3.8 targets and 83 total yards per game since his return, scoring three touchdowns in five games. The Seahawks could lean on Carson a bit more than usual if backup Carlos Hyde (questionable, illness) isn't active Sunday.

Puts in another limited practice
Carson (foot) was limited at practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Carson again had his reps capped, as has been the case for the running back since he returned Week 12 from four contests missed due to a foot sprain. During his most recent five-game stretch, he's averaged 15.4 touches for 83 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring three TDs. Assuming he's the lead back for the Seahawks on Sunday against the 49ers, Carson can expect a similar workload.

Limited in practice Wednesday
Carson (foot) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Since returning from his sprained foot Week 12, Carson has consistently been a limited participant in the Seahawks' subsequent practices. Unless Carson downgrades to no participation in practices Thursday and Friday, there won't be much cause for concern about his status for this weekend's game against the 49ers. With the NFC's No. 1 seed still in play for the Seahawks, Carson likely is preparing for a workhorse role.

Produces 79 scrimmage yards
Carson (foot) carried 16 times for 69 yards and caught all three of his targets for an additional 10 yards during Sunday's 20-9 win over the Rams.
Analysis: Carson shrugged off a minor injury to handle his largest workload in terms of touches since Week 4. He averaged a respectable 4.3 yards per carry against a tough Rams front and did little with his receptions despite hauling in each pass thrown his way. Carson was held out of the end zone for the second straight game, which is actually his longest such stretch of the season, but his health and production bode well for the newly-crowned NFC West champions. Full practice Thursday
Carson (foot) returned to a full practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Carson recorded a season-high 70 percent of Seattle's offensive snaps in the team's Week 15 win over Washington. In the process, he carried 15 times for 63 yards and caught two of three targets for six yards. Now that he's practicing fully again this week, Carson is in line to continue to lead the Seahawks backfield Sunday against the Rams, with Carlos Hyde and Rashaad Penny on hand to work in complementary roles.

Limited at practice
Carson (foot) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Despite the Seahawks having Rashaad Penny (knee) back in action Week 15 for the first time in 2020, Carson logged a season-high 70 percent of the offensive snaps at Washington. Carson turned the elevated role into 17 touches for 69 yards from scrimmage in the victory, while Carlos Hyde made the most of his four touches with a 50-yard touchdown run, Penny had two carries for six yards, and DeeJay Dallas suffered a severe ankle sprain. Rumbles for 63 yards
Carson rushed 15 times for 63 yards and caught two of three targets for six yards in Sunday's 20-15 win over Washington.
Analysis: While Rashaad Penny did return from last year's torn ACL in this contest, Carson was the clear lead back once again, handling 15 of the 18 backfield carries. The fourth-year running back finished with more than 60 rushing yards for a third straight game, but he didn't get any goal-line chances and failed to find the end zone as a result. Penny won't push Carson for a starting role anytime soon, so the latter should handle his typical workload in a Week 16 clash against the Rams.

All good for Week 15
Carson (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Washington, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Carson's availability was never in doubt. The Seahawks have been managing his reps since he returned from a four-week absence, with their caution also extending to in-game situations when the outcome has already been decided. Carson's 45 percent snap share during the Week 14 win over the Jets is a bit deceiving; he handled 11 touches and 71 percent of snaps in the first half of the contest before sitting out most of the second half while Seattle sat on an insurmountable lead.

Carson (foot) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Carson maintained his activity level from Wednesday, while fellow running back Carlos Hyde (toe) bumped from limited to full. There isn't much worry about Carson's Week 15 availability, as he's regularly been limited on Seahawks injury reports before each of the last three contests. Carson (foot) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: The Seahawks are limiting both Carson and Carlos Hyde (toe) to begin Week 15, but neither of Seattle's top two running backs looks in danger of missing Sunday's game against Washington. The duo has played in each of the last three games, handling nearly all of the running-back carries during that stretch. Finds end zone in rout
Carson carried the ball 12 times for 76 yards and a touchdown and caught three of five targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 40-3 win over the Jets.
Analysis: He fell just shy of reaching 100 scrimmage yards for the fourth time this season, and Carson almost certainly would have gotten there in a more competitive game, as Carlos Hyde saw plenty of work in the second half in his place. Carson will likely see a bigger share of the backfield touches in Week 15's road clash with a Washington squad that should put up more of a fight.

All good to face Jets on Sunday
Carson (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Jets, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: After playing just 37 percent of snaps in his first game back from the foot injury, Carson bumped up to 58 percent snap share and 110 total yards in last week's 17-12 loss to the Giants. During Sunday's loss to the Giants, Carson received a typical offensive snap share (58 percent), which he parlayed into 16 touches for 110 yards and one touchdown. Carson rushed the ball 13 times for 65 yards in Week 13 against the Giants. He added three receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Carson saw an increased workload in his second game back from a foot injury, increasing his touch total from 10 to 16. He out-carried Carlos Hyde 13-2 and ripped off three 11-yard rushes to average five yards per carry. Elsewhere in the backfield, Carlos Hyde (toe) and Travis Homer (wrist/thumb/knee) didn't practice at all Thursday. Carson rushed eight times for 41 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 23-17 win over the Eagles. He also caught both of his targets for 18 yards.
Analysis: Carson missed Seattle's last four games while nursing a foot injury, and although Carlos Hyde still led the Seahawks with 15 carries Monday, it was Carson who powered in a 16-yard touchdown during the second quarter. Carlos Hyde (hamstring) is also unavailable, so Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas are poised to lead Seattle's backfield in Los Angeles. Homer and rookie DeeJay Dallas will share the backfield reps if Carson ultimately joins Hyde on the Seahawks' Week 9 inactive list.

Won't practice until Friday
Coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Carson (foot) won't be evaluated at practice until Friday, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Analysis: Carson wasn't able to suit up in last week's win over San Francisco, and his availability for Week 9 could come down to how he holds up during Friday's practice session. Carroll also said that Carlos Hyde (hamstring) won't play in Buffalo this weekend, though Travis Homer (knee) is on track to play. If Carson can't go, Homer and DeeJay Dallas would stand to split Seattle's backfield reps.

Looking iffy for Week 9
Coach Pete Carroll said Carson will test out his foot Friday and evaluate him Saturday to determine if a return is possible Sunday at Buffalo, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
Analysis: Carson was a game-time call for this past Sunday's game against the 49ers, but the running back ultimately didn't do enough to gain clearance to play with his mid-foot sprain. After not practicing at all last week, it appears he won't take the field this week until Friday, at the earliest. If he remains sidelined this weekend and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) joins him, the Seahawks seemingly will roll with DeeJay Dallas as their primary RB, with Travis Homer (knee) potentially acting as the backup…read more

Uncertain for Week 9
Coach Pete Carroll said he isn't sure if Carson (foot) will be ready for Week 9 against Buffalo, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Carroll was commenting on his team's backfield situation after a 37-27 win over the 49ers on Sunday. With Carson and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) both inactive, DeeJay Dallas played 79 percent of offensive snaps and scored a pair of touchdowns. Carson was treated as a game-time decision, but it sounds like his pregame warmup didn't go well. He was absent from practice Wednesday through Friday, so even limited participation this week would be a step in the right direction.

Sidelined Sunday
Carson (foot) is listed as inactive Sunday against the 49ers.
Analysis: Carson didn't practice at all this week due to a mid-foot sprain, entering the weekend with questionable next to his name. Late Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Carson had a "50-50" chance to play, but his status took a downturn Sunday when Jay Glazer noted on Fox NFL Sunday that the Seahawks didn't expect him to suit up. That has come to pass, and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) has joined Carson on Seattle's inactive list, leaving Travis Homer (knee) and DeeJay Dallas to lead the backfield…read more

Low expectations
While Carson (foot) is a game-time decision for Sunday afternoon's game, the team does not expect him to be able to play, Fox's Jay Glazer reported on their morning pregame show.
Analysis: Earlier Carson's status has been described as a 'true game-time decision,' so we'll have to still await the results of his workout roughly 90 minutes before the 4:25 pm ET kickoff.

Remains game-time call
Carson (foot) will have his availability for Sunday's game against the 49ers determined after going through pregame warmups, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter said one source indicated it was truly "50/50" whether Carson will be able to play in the divisional matchup. Pete Carroll made similar comments Friday, and it appears the 26-year-old's outlook hasn't changed much halfway through the weekend. Carlos Hyde (hamstring) is doubtful and Travis Homer (knee) is questionable for Sunday, so Seattle's backfield depth could be severely tested Week 8. DeeJay Dallas is the only other running back on the active roster.

Listed as questionable
Carson (foot) is questionable for Sunday's game against San Francisco, while fellow running back Carlos Hyde (hamstring) is listed as doubtful, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Analysis: Travis Homer (knee) also is listed as questionable, but coach Pete Carroll said he expects the passing-down specialist to play. Carson is the big question mark, with the Seahawks viewing him as a game-time decision ahead of a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday afternoon. Confirmation one way or the other may not happen until the team releases its inactive list approximately 90 minutes before the game.

Headed for game-time decision
Coach Pete Carroll expects Carson (foot) to be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers, Brandon Gustafson of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Analysis: The same goes for Carlos Hyde (hamstring), though Carroll apparently sounded a bit less optimistic about Hyde's chances of playing. Carroll also mentioned that Travis Homer (knee) is expected to play, while Alex Collins will be signed to the practice squad. Despite missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, it sounds like Carson will be listed as questionable on the Friday injury report.

Coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Carson (foot) will be held out of practice until the end of the week, Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio 950 KJR Seattle reports.
Analysis: With that in mind, Carson likely won't practice Wednesday or Thursday, but the ambiguous phrasing leaves the possibility that he could return to the field for Friday's session. Labeled week-to-week
Carson is considered week-to-week after suffering a mid-foot sprain during Sunday night's 37-34 overtime loss to the Cardinals, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Carson was forced out of Sunday's divisional contest prior to halftime, and it looks as though he's in legitimate danger of missing the Seahawks' Week 8 tilt against the 49ers. Carlos Hyde will take over as Seattle's top backfield weapon if Carson is forced to spend more time on the sideline. Analysis: Carson was removed from Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, leaving Carlos Hyde, Travis Homer (knee) and DeeJay Dallas to split backfield snaps after halftime. Homer then left the game with a knee contusion, which allowed Dallas to get more work on passing downs. The Seahawks could be missing one or two running backs when they host the 49ers in Week 8.

Efficient with eight carries
Carson rushed eight times for 58 yards and a touchdown, adding six receptions (seven targets) for 27 yards in Sunday's 27-26 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: The Vikings absolutely dominated the time of possession game, leaving the Seahawks -- and in turn, Carson -- with fewer plays to accrue fantasy points. Fortunately for fantasy managers who roster the running back, he was able to power through what appeared to be a sure tackle for a 29-yard score. He eventually hobbled over to the medical tent before making his way to the bench. Prior to getting injured, Carson rushed 14 times for 64 yards and caught all three of his targets for 12 more. Could lose carries to Hyde?
Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that both Carson and Carlos Hyde will get playing time Sunday in Atlanta, Joe Fann of NBC Sports Northwest reports. "Sometimes you go with who's hot," Carroll said. "They're going to both play. We'll see what happens when they get out there. If it looks like somebody's got something going on that day, we'll stick with it."
Analysis: Fann believes it's mostly coach speak but also notes that the workload split could be more even than the one between Carson and Rashaad Penny last year. Carson had nine games in 2019 with snap share above 75 percent, and some of the weeks with lighter workloads were related to fumbles (his seven were an NFL-high among non-QBs). Carson still has a shot at 20 touches, but it shouldn't be viewed as a lock by any means.

Prosise (arm) on injured reserve -- officially opened up space on the roster for running backs Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin. Carson will need some time to recover after fracturing his hip in Week 16, but he is expected to be ready to go for training camp next summer.

Diagnosed with fractured hip
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Carson sustained a season-ending fractured hip in the Seahawks' 27-13 loss to the Cardinals in Week 16, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Despite the serious-sounding nature of the injury, Carroll said it won't be a long-term concern for Carson, who is expected to be available for the start of training camp in July. Nonetheless, it's yet another mark against Carson in the durability department, with injuries having now cost him 15 regular-season appearances through his three NFL campaigns. With Carson and C.J. Prosise (arm) both expected to join Rashaad Penny (knee) on injured reserve in the coming days, rookie Travis Homer is…read more

Done for year
Carson (hip) will be out for the rest of the season after getting injured in Seattle's Week 16 loss to the Cardinals, according to coach Pete Carroll, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: This injury will sideline Carson for the Week 17 showdown with San Francisco to decide the NFC West crown and, more importantly, for the playoffs as well. With Rashaad Penny (knee) on IR and C. J. Prosise (arm) also exiting against the Cardinals, Travis Homer is on track to become Seattle's de facto lead back. Homer's first NFL touches came in Week 15.

Won't return Sunday
Carson (hip) is ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Carson exited the game in the first half and didn't return following the break. The third-year running back joins C.J. Prosise (arm) -- who was also ruled out for the game -- on the sidelines, and Travis Homer is the lone remaining healthy running back.

Suffers hip injury Sunday
Carson sustained a hip injury during Sunday's contest versus the Cardinals, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
Analysis: Per Adam Jude of The Seattle Times, Carson limped to the locker room mere minutes before halftime, after which he was tabbed as 'questionable' to return. With C.J. Prosise ruled out of this contest due to an injured arm, the Seahawks are down to just one healthy running back: rookie Travis Homer.

Finds paydirt twice in win
Carson rushed 24 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns and caught one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Carson returned to a bell-cow role with Rashaad Penny (knee) in injured reserve, and he busted out of the gate on the team's opening drive, carrying four times for 47 yards and a score. The third-year pro showcased his explosiveness as well, exceeding 10 yards on eight carries, including three times on the team's final drive to help ice the game. C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer combined for just seven carries, so Carson looks locked into a massive workload going forward. Carson will look to keep…read more

Undisputed bell cow sans Penny
Carson is expected to handle a bulk of the workload going forward with Rashaad Penny ruled out for the season with a torn ACL, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Carson spent the first 10 games this year as the clear bell cow, rushing at least 15 times in each contest and totaling 1,044 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns. Rashaad Penny turned the backfield into a timeshare with a commanding Week 12 performance, though, and the duo split reps during the following game against the Vikings. However, Penny left this past Sunday's 28-12 loss to the Rams with a knee injury on the first drive, and Carson finished with 91 yards on 15 carries. With Penny…read more

Records 91 yards from scrimmage
Carson rushed 15 times for 76 yards and caught three of four targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 28-12 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: Carson looked poised to take a bell-cow role after Rashaad Penny left the game on the first drive with a potentially serious knee injury and didn't return. However, the game script had other ideas, as the Rams took a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter and Russell Wilson threw 36 times. Carson still managed a respectable workload and produced an efficient outing with 5.1 yards per carry, and his fantasy performance was on par with what was expected if Penny played the entire game. We're still…read more

Carries for 102 yards, score
Carson rushed 23 times for 102 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 37-30 win over the Vikings. He also caught one of two targets for seven yards.
Analysis: There were obvious concerns about his workload following Week 12's win over the Eagles, in which he fumbled twice in the fourth quarter and was out-touched by Rashaad Penny. Carson got the start Monday, however, and extinguished those worries early by firing out of the gate with a nine-yard rush. Coach Pete Carroll was planning on a timeshare and Penny received carries on the first drive as well, while both had productive nights with the latter reaching 107 yards from scrimmage and scoring…read more

Falls behind Penny
Carson rushed eight times for 26 yards and caught all four targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Carson played second fiddle to Rashaad Penny's hot hand, as Penny rumbled for 129 yards and a touchdown. Penny out-carried Carson 14-8 and registered 123 more rushing yards, although the former couldn't haul in his only target. Carson did fumble once -- he recovered -- but his backseat assignment was mainly attributed to how well Penny played, as Penny showed explosiveness, taking six carries for six or more yards while Carson did so just once. It remains to be seen to what degree Penny will…read more

Eclipses century mark
Carson rushed 25 times for 89 yards and a touchdown and caught three of four targets for 12 yards in Monday's 27-24 overtime win versus the 49ers.
Analysis: Carson garnered 28 touches to Rashaad Penny's two, as the former was the clear bell cow again despite putting yet another ball on the ground, although the Seahawks were able to recover. The third-year running back has rushed at least 20 times in six of seven games, and the workhorse role continues to pay off, as he exceeded 100 yards from scrimmage in five of those outings. Carson will enjoy the upcoming bye and fire back up in Week 12 against the Vikings.

Compiles 133 yards
Carson rushed 16 times for 105 yards and caught both targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 40-34 overtime win against the Buccaneers.
Analysis: The shootout game script didn't afford Carson a sixth-straight outing with 20-plus carries, but he made use of the limited reps. Carson was the first player to rush for over 100 yards against the Bucs this season, and he did it by averaging 6.6 YPC. His day was highlighted when he ripped off a 59-yard run, but he fumbled the ball and luckily it went out of bounds. Carson lost a fumble later in the contest as well, but the Seahawks never lost faith in the lead back by deploying Rashaad Penny for…read more
