Declines in rough 2020 campaign
Freeman ran for 170 yards on 35 carries and added 81 yards on 12 catches during the 2020 season.
Analysis: Freeman's workload took a hit following the Broncos' acquisition of Melvin Gordon. Though he averaged 4.9 yards per carry, a full yard above his career average, Freeman seldom garnered many touches with Gordon serving as the bell cow more often than not and Phillip Lindsay also a factor in the 11 games he played. With the exception of Week 13's game against the Saints, in which Freeman took snaps at wildcat quarterback, the 2018 third-rounder never topped 35 yards and didn't log more than…read more

Picks up three touches
Freeman ran for 21 yards on two carries and added a one-yard catch during Sunday's 32-31 loss to Las Vegas.
Analysis: Freeman set up the Broncos' first touchdown late in the first quarter, rumbling for 20 yards to bring Denver into Las Vegas territory. Still, perhaps still bothered by a nagging hip, he garnered just two touches to Melvin Gordon's 30. The third-year back often was lost in the shuffle this season as Gordon took Freeman's role as the passing-game back. Absent a shake-up in the offseason, a similar role likely awaits Freeman in 2021.

Garners four touches in loss
Freeman caught both of his targets for seven yards and had two carries for 16 yards during Sunday's 19-16 loss at the Chargers.
Analysis: Freeman had an opportunity to be RB2 behind Melvin Gordon on Sunday after Phillip Lindsay (hip) went on injured reserve. It didn't work out that way as Freeman still was visibly bothered by his own hip, leaving four touches for rookie LeVante Bellamy. Freeman will have another opportunity to enjoy an uptick in touches in the season finale against the Raiders on Sunday. He totaled 26 yards on four touches in Week 10's loss in Las Vegas.

Ready to play Sunday
Freeman (hip) is active for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old was considered questionable with the hip issue but is good to go Sunday. Freeman will serve as the backup to Melvin Gordon with Phillip Lindsay (hip/knee) on injured reserve.

Questionable for Sunday
Freeman (hip) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old picked up the hip injury during last week's loss to the Bills, but he'll have a chance to take the field Sunday. Freeman would be in line for an increased workload behind starter Melvin Gordon if available to play this weekend, since Phillip Lindsay (hip/knee) has already been ruled out.

Practice status improves
Freeman (hip) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: Freeman sustained a hip injury Saturday during a blowout loss to the Bills, and he was subsequently tagged a DNP for Denver's opening practice session of the week Wednesday. If capable of overcoming the issue to make an appearance Week 16, Freeman would remain without a missed game since the start of last season. Should Freeman be activated against the Chargers and Phillip Lindsay (hip/knee) ruled out, the Oregon product would be in line for an uptick in carries behind Melvin Gordon.

Misses Wednesday's practice
Freeman (hip) isn't practicing Wednesday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With fellow running back Phillip Lindsay also missing practice Wednesday due to a hip injury, Melvin Gordon is the only Denver running back taking part in the session. If neither Freeman nor Lindsay gain clearance for Sunday's game against the Chargers, the team will likely opt to promote LeVante Bellamy from the practice squad to serve as Gordon's top backup.

Injures hip Saturday
Freeman (hip) is questionable to return to Saturday's game against the Bills, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Freeman was only handling a reserve role with both Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay active Saturday, so his potential absence won't have a huge impact on Denver's offense. However, the Broncos only have three running backs active Saturday, and the team will be a bit short on depth if Freeman can't return.

Takes back seat against Chiefs
Freeman did not register a carry or a target over four offensive snaps during Sunday's 22-16 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Phillip Lindsay suited up for Sunday Night Football after coping with a knee issue throughout the practice week, diminishing any potential offensive role for Freeman. The Oregon product is averaging a career-best 4.3 yards per carry this season, but he remains without a touchdown after producing nine combined TDs over his first two years in the league. Freeman also reached at least 130 rush attempts during both 2018 and 2019, and he's on pace to finish far below that mark with just 30 carries…read more

Team's leading rusher Week 12
Freeman registered 50 rushing yards on eight carries during Sunday's 31-3 loss to New Orleans.
Analysis: With quarterbacks Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Jeff Driskel all unavailable because of COVID-19 concerns, Freeman entered Sunday's contest as the Broncos' No. 2 QB behind Kendall Hinton. Freeman was not asked to throw a pass during the game, though he did line up in the wildcat formation on a handful of occasions. May see some QB work
Freeman could play at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Saints following news that every Broncos QB is in COVID-19 protocol, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Freeman is the Broncos' emergency quarterback. The Broncos are also expected to elevate Kendall Hinton from the practice squad. Hinton played some quarterback in college before switching to wide receiver at the start of his junior year at Wake Forest. The Broncos will need to get creative under center, and perhaps Freeman will take snaps in a wildcat formation. He could see a bump in usage as a result, although it's tough to get a grasp on how things will ultimately shake out for the Broncos.

No touches in Sunday's win
Freeman didn't record a touch in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay operated as a true tandem, as Gordon logged 84 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries while Lindsay registered 82 yards on 16 carries. Freeman was left out as a result, playing just four snaps on offense. The workload will be divvied up in a similar manner as long as both Gordon and Lindsay are available moving forward.

Tallies 26 yards
Freeman ran for 11 yards on two carries and added two catches on two targets for 15 yards during Sunday's loss in Las Vegas.
Analysis: Box scores can be deceiving. On the surface, Freeman garnered as many touches Sunday as Phillip Lindsay and produced 24 more yards. In reality, three of Freeman's touches came during Denver's final drive of the game in a blowout loss. The third-year back remains a solid option in the passing game both as a blocker and receiver, a necessity given Lindsay's struggles in both areas. Sunday was not the beginning of a shift toward more Freeman in Denver's offense, however. Expect his work to be…read more

One offensive snap against Falcons
Freeman did not garner a single rush attempt or target during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons, fielding one offensive snap and 22 special-teams snaps.
Analysis: The third-year back has gone without an offensive touch in consecutive outings, after collecting 14 combined carries and four receptions over three outings between Weeks 4 and 7. With Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay posing a formidable duo atop Denver's backfield, Freeman's offensive role figures to remain relatively remote in closely contested games. Freeman will slot in as the Broncos' third-string running back heading into a Week 10 matchup against the division rival Raiders.

No role with healthy RB room
Freeman garnered no offensive snaps during Sunday's 31-30 win against the Chargers.
Analysis: The Oregon product got involved with 19 snaps as a member of the special-teams group, but he did not have any offensive role as Phillip Lindsay made his return from a concussion. Freeman had garnered at least one carry in all six of his appearances entering Week 8, but Lindsay (six rushes) and Melvin Gordon (eight) split the RB workload for Denver in a pass-heavy game script. Posts 17 scrimmage yards
Freeman registered 12 rushing yards on three carries, adding a five-yard reception during Sunday's 43-16 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: Freeman fielded 18 offensive snaps in Week 7, as Phillip Lindsay was forced to exit late in the second quarter because of a concussion. If Lindsay were forced to sit out Sunday's upcoming matchup against the Chargers' 14th-ranked rush defense, Freeman would once again be inserted into the No. 2 RB role as a complement to Melvin Gordon. Picks up 30 yards
Freeman ran for 26 yards on eight carries and added a four-yard catch during Sunday's 18-12 win over New England.
Analysis: With Melvin Gordon out (illness), Freeman held onto the No. 2 RB job despite Phillip Lindsay's return to the fold and saw a season-high nine touches. He wasn't able to do much with them, however. Freeman is a solid pass protector and receiver, but he should return to the sideline Sunday against Kansas City assuming Gordon's health improves.

Gains 12 yards
Freeman ran for six yards on three carries and added two catches for six yards during Thursday's 37-28 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Despite an offensive explosion -- by Denver's standards -- Freeman was not heavily featured as RB2. Melvin Gordon racked up 25 touches. Freeman remains a solid pass protector and receiver, but it's hard to see his role expanding in the near future as Phillip Lindsay (toe) may be ready for Week 5's matchup against New England.

Gains 35 yards
Freeman caught both of his targets for 31 yards and ran for four yards on two carries during Sunday's 28-10 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Freeman helped convert a third-and-long early in the third quarter with a big 28-yard catch-and-run, Denver's longest play of the game. He otherwise played a small supporting role in a Denver rush offense that could not kick into gear after falling behind early. His value heading into Thursday's matchup against the Jets rush defense depends on two things. First, the health of Phillip Lindsay (toe). Second, whether Brett Rypien, Jeff Driskel or even Blake Bortles can pass well enough to keep…read more

Quiet day against Steelers
Freeman registered 20 rushing yards on three carries during Sunday's 26-21 loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: With Phillip Lindsay (toe) facing a 2-to-4 week absence, Freeman was not plugged into a comparable role against the Steelers. Though we haven't yet seen the Melvin Gordon-Lindsay dynamic fully unveiled because of the latter going down partway through the season opener, surely the 2018 Pro Bowl back would have been more involved than Freeman was Sunday. With the Broncos ranking in the lower half of the league in team rush attempts thus far in 2020 (26 carries per game), Freeman's upside is…read more

Nearly hits paydirt
Freeman was unable to pick up any yardage on his one rush attempt, but he did collect 12 receiving yards on his lone catch during Monday's 16-14 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Freeman was tackled just shy of the end zone on his fourth-quarter reception. The Broncos tried to dial up a goal-line touchdown run for Freeman on the subsequent play, but he was stopped for no gain before Melvin Gordon eventually punched in Denver's second TD of the night. Phillip Lindsay is set to undergo an MRI on what is believed to be a mild case of turf toe developed during Monday's game, but if he is inactive or limited Week 2, Freeman may see an uptick in usage against a Steelers…read more

Looking at roster bubble?
Freeman may need to fend off competition for the Broncos' No. 3 running back job, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: A third-round pick two years ago, Freeman has been thoroughly unimpressive to this point in his pro career, averaging 3.9 yards on 262 carries and 5.8 yards on 57 receptions. The Broncos gave a vote of no confidence to Freeman when they added Melvin Gordon to a backfield that already had Phillip Lindsay, potentially leaving the Oregon product to duke it out with Khalfani Muhammad and undrafted rookie LeVante Bellamy for the third spot on the depth chart. Supplanted by Gordon
The acquisition of Melvin Gordon leaves Freeman on the outside looking in at Denver's 1-2 punch of Gordon and Phillip Lindsay, Sean Keeler of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: There were whispers that Denver was looking for an upgrade over Freeman in free agency, but the investment in Gordon is even more than expected. Freeman hasn't lived up to his billing as a big, savvy bell-cow back, averaging just 3.9 yards per carry in two seasons. His uber-efficient 2018 season aside, Gordon has averaged just 3.80 yards per carry during his career, but he's a more dynamic receiver and has at least shown the ability to be a big-time runner in spurts. Finishes second on team in catches
Freeman finished the 2019 campaign with 496 yards and three touchdowns on 132 carries and 43 catches on 50 targets for 256 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Freeman's 2019 output was similar to that of his rookie season. He averaged 47.0 yards per game as compared to 42.4 as a rookie and 4.3 yards per touch in 2019 as compared to 4.2 in 2018. What changed was how he was gaining yards. Freeman averaged 2.7 catches per game in 2019, up from 1.0 as a rookie. His 43 receptions placed him behind only Courtland Sutton for the team lead. Accounts for one of two rushing TDs
Freeman ran for 28 yards and a touchdown on nine carries and caught both of his targets for nine receiving yards during Sunday's 27-17 win against the Lions.
Analysis: The record-setting back out of Oregon has eclipsed 35 rushing yards just once since Week 5, but Sunday he broke a skid of six consecutive games without a rushing TD. Freeman was much more involved over the first half of the year in comparison to his current role, as he racked up 11 carries and 3.3 receptions per game between Weeks 1 and 8. Limited to 26 yards
Freeman ran for 12 yards on five carries and added 14 yards on four catches during Sunday's 23-3 loss in Kansas City.
Analysis: Freeman, and the Denver ground game more generally, were extremely limited during Sunday's loss. Head coach Vic Fangio told reporters Monday that the poor production was the result of poor blocking, some missed opportunities by the backs, and the Broncos digging themselves into an early hole. It was more of the same for Freeman, who has been held under 30 yards in four of his last six contests. He scored just once during that span. First career receiving TD
Freeman rushed eight times for 24 yards and caught both of his targets for eight yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Texans.
Analysis: The highlight of Freeman's day was a three-yard receiving touchdown in the final minute of the first half. That was his first career receiving score, though Freeman has emerged as a reliable receiver out of the backfield with 36 catches this season. He has averaged only 7.6 touches per game over the past five after reaching double digits in each of the first eight.

Practicing fully
Freeman (ribs) practiced fully Thursday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Freeman -- who logged five carries for 11 yards and caught all four of his targets for an additional 13 yards last weekend -- is thus good to go for Sunday's game against the Texans, but he's only an option in deeper fantasy formats these days, with his touches down over his last four outings and Phillip Lindsay having handled the bulk of the team's backfield work in that span.

Nursing rib injury
Freeman was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a rib injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Freeman may have picked up the injury in the Broncos' Week 13 win over the Chargers, but there's little reason to worry yet that he'll miss Sunday's game against the Texans. The second-year back has been held under 30 scrimmage yards in four straight games and hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 8.

Totals 24 scrimmage yards
Freeman carried five times for 11 yards and caught all four of his targets for an additional 13 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Freeman averaged just 2.2 yards per carry, and, although he received the third-most targets on the team, he finished with a meager 3.3 yards per catch. His long carry went for just five yards as he was held under 30 scrimmage yards for the third time in the last four games. Freeman's ability to make an impact in his current role is in serious question at the moment and he'll look to do more with his opportunities next Sunday against the Texans.

Continues decline
Freeman ran for 20 yards on two carries and added nine yards on two receptions during Sunday's 20-3 loss in Buffalo.
Analysis: Freeman's four touches marked a season low and his 29 total yards were his second lowest total of the season. The lack of usage is especially surprising as he led Denver running backs with 28 offensive snaps, totaling 56 percent of the team's plays. Part of that can be attributed to Freeman's role as a third-down pass-blocking back, but Freeman's steady decline is still surprising. Picks up 45 yards in loss
Freeman ran for 31 yards on eight carries and added a 14-yard catch during Sunday's 27-23 loss in Minnesota.
Analysis: Freeman kept the Broncos alive late in the fourth quarter, taking a swing pass on third and long and juking his defender on his way to a 14-yard gain and first down. The play itself was encouraging, but fantasy managers would be justified in being concerned that Freeman was kept to single-digit touches for the second consecutive game after at logging at least 10 in the first eight contests of 2019. May cede more work to Lindsay
Freeman is excepted to handle a smaller role than normal out of the backfield Sunday against the Vikings with the Broncos planning to feature Phillip Lindsay more prominently, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Denver has deployed a fairly even distribution of the workload between Freeman and Lindsay all season, with the latter playing between 40 and 56 percent of the offensive snaps and topping out at 25 touches and the former handling snap shares between 47 and 63 percent and maxing out at 19 touches. Quiet in win over Browns
Freeman carried the ball five times for 15 yards and caught his only target for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Browns.
Analysis: The second-year RB mostly took a back seat to Phillip Lindsay in this one, as the latter's 30-yard TD run in the third quarter ended up being the winning score for Denver. The 14 scrimmage yards were Freeman's lowest output of the year -- he hadn't produced less than 45 coming into Sunday -- and with the team's bye on tap in Week 10, Freeman's role could be in flux coming out the other side if Lindsay's wrist injury heals enough to allow him to handle pass-protection duties again.
