Quickly falls out of favor
Dwelley did not receive a target in Sunday's 37-8 win over Green Bay.
Analysis: Fresh off a two-touchdown performance, Dwelley not only took a back seat to returning starter George Kittle (knee/ankle), but he also finished well behind Garrett Celek in terms of offensive snaps. The 24-year-old will maintain a non-fantasy role so long as Kittle is healthy for Week 13's tilt against Baltimore.

Grabs two short TDs in comeback win
Dwelley caught four of five targets for 14 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 36-26 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Getting another start in place of George Kittle (knee), Dwelley took advantage of a matchup with the weakest defense in the league against tight ends and caught TD passes of four and five yards -- the first two of Jimmy Garoppolo's four touchdowns on the day. While he isn't the downfield threat Kittle is, Dwelley is proving he can be a useful short-yardage and red-zone threat, but his snap count and target volume in Week 12 against the Packers will depend entirely on Kittle's health.

Likely to replace Kittle again
Dwelley could be in line for significant snaps in Sunday's game against the Cardinals with George Kittle (knee/ankle) listed as doubtful for the contest.
Analysis: Dwelley filled in for Kittle in Monday's 27-24 loss to Seattle, catching three of seven targets for 24 yards while playing 92 percent of the offensive snaps. The Niners could give some of that playing time to Garrett Celek or Levine Toilolo in Week 11, but Dwelley remains the better bet to draw targets.

Makes three grabs
Dwelley caught three of seven targets for 24 yards in Monday night's 27-24 overtime loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Dwelley started at tight end with Pro Bowler George Kittle (knee/ankle) sidelined. Although he unsurprisingly couldn't come close to Kittle's production, Dwelley still drew seven targets, finishing third on the team in the category. With back-to-back games with at least three grabs, Dwelley could be in store for similar production should Kittle sit again versus the Cardinals in Week 11, making his status worthwhile to monitor prior to kickoff.

Starting role on tap
Dwelley should see the lion's share of snaps Monday against Seattle with starting tight end George Kittle (knee/ankle) listed as doubtful.
Analysis: Dwelley played 70 percent of offensive snaps in last week's win over the Cardinals -- a game in which Kittle was banged up but still toughed out 69 percent of snaps. With Kittle likely sitting this one out, Dwelley should see the field even more and has a chance to match or surpass his four-catch output from Week 9.

Largest usage this season
Dwelley caught four passes (four targets) for 29 yards in Thursday's 28-25 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Dwelley was on the field for 70 percent of the team's offensive snaps, which was due in large part to George Kittle suffering a knee injury early on, limiting the starter to a season-low 69 percent of offensive snaps. The latter was able to play through the injury, and an MRI on Friday revealed that there was no structural damage, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Even with the career-best game Thursday, Dwelley would need Kittle to completely miss a contest before gaining fantasy…read more

Targeted thrice in win
Dwelley caught one of this three targets for a two-yard gain during Sunday's 9-0 win over Washington.
Analysis: Dwelley's three targets during Sunday's sloppy outing represented a season high, but the sophomore tight end still has a net loss of a yard for the season. It would have been foolish to look his way anyway with Carolina's seventh-ranked pass defense on deck Sunday, but what small role he had in the passing game will probably be further reduced with the addition of Emmanuel Sanders from Denver.

Appears to have won backup job
Dwelley joined George Kittle as inactives for Thursday's preseason finale against the Chargers, signalling that the former has won a backup job on the 53-man roster.
Analysis: Dwelley saw his stock rise with a strong training camp, and he apparently did enough to separate himself from the pack and earn the primary backup job behind star tight end Kittle. While this is great news for Dwelley, a backup tight end job won't get catch fantasy owners' attention unless Kittle was forced to miss time at any point this season.

Making strong case for backup job
Dwelley's strong camp has given him the inside edge on becoming the primary backup at tight end to George Kittle this season, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Dwelley stood out during Wednesday's practice when he made four catches -- the final going for a touchdown -- on a drive led by fellow backup Nick Mullens. The 49ers brought in a handful of tight ends to compete for the primary backup job behind Kittle, but the 24-year-old has been the only candidate to generate buzz early in camp. Garrett Celek (back) may start the regular season on the PUP list, so Dwelley is frontrunner to win the backup job competition.

Finishes season as third tight end
Dwelley caught two passes for 14 yards with the 49ers this past season.
Analysis: Dwelley was promoted to the team's active roster Week 6, but he spent most of the season on special teams, only logging 39 offensive snaps over 11 games. The undrafted rookie will battle for the 49ers' third-string tight end job next season with both George Kittle and Garrett Celek locked into the first two spots on the depth chart.
