Ruled out for Week 16
Covey (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Commanders.
Analysis: Covey practiced in full all week but was still ruled out. He's simply fallen down the depth chart as the Eagles' sixth receiver behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith.

Logs full practice Wednesday
Covey (neck) was listed as a full practice participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report.
Analysis: Covey has been sidelined for the Eagles' last two games due to a neck injury. While he didn't end up playing in the Eagles' Week 15 win over the Steelers despite logging a full practice, it appears he is on track to play against the Commanders on Sunday.

Out for Week 15
Covey (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Analysis: Covey upgraded to a full practice Thursday, but he's still not going to play in Week 15. Cooper DeJean is a candidate to return punts against Pittsburgh, as he did last Sunday versus Carolina.

Full participant Thursday
Covey (neck) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: The wide receiver and punt returner was a limited participant Wednesday. Covey suffered the injury in Week 13 against the Ravens and missed the Eagles' Week 14 clash with the Panthers. The third-year pro should resume his punt-return duties Sunday against the Steelers.

Opens week with limited practice
Covey (neck) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Covey hurt his neck Week 13 against Baltimore and missed this past Sunday's victory versus Carolina. By beginning this week with a limited practice session, Covey could potentially return to action Sunday against Pittsburgh. If Covey can play, his impact would likely be felt mostly on special teams, as he has worked as Philadelphia's lead punt returner while seeing limited snaps on offense.

Won't suit up Week 14
Covey (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Covey logged limited practices Thursday and Friday, but he'll sit out Sunday. His next chance to play will be Week 15 against the Steelers. Cooper DeJean, Jahan Dotson and Ainias Smith all are candidates to return punts in Covey's absence.

Upgraded to limited Thursday
Covey (neck) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday.
Analysis: Covey didn't participate in Wednesday's walkthrough due to a neck injury he suffered against the Ravens this past Sunday. His ability to practice Thursday is a sign that he is progressing in his recovery, though he would have to log a full practice Friday in order to avoid an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against Carolina.

Estimated as DNP
Covey (neck) was listed as a DNP on Wednesday's estimated injury report.
Analysis: Covey suffered a neck injury during a punt return in the second half of the Eagles' 24-19 win over the Ravens this past Sunday. Although the Eagles' session Wednesday was a walkthrough, his DNP still doesn't bode well for his chances of playing against the Panthers on Sunday. Covey will have to return to practice over the next two days in order to have a chance at suiting up for Week 14.

Suffers neck injury in win
Covey suffered a neck injury during Sunday's 24-19 win over the Ravens, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Covey sustained the injury on a punt return in the second half, finishing his day with four returns for 30 yards in the victory. The 27-year-old's status at practice this week will be worth monitoring ahead of the team's Week 14 matchup with the Panthers.

Reinstated from injured reserve
The Eagles activated Covey (shoulder) from injured reserve Saturday, and he carries no injury designation into Sunday's game against the Rams.
Analysis: Covey suffered a shoulder injury in Week 3 against the Saints, which forced him to be sidelined for the Eagles' last seven games. The 27-year-old wideout was a full participant in practice all week, and he's progressed through his injury enough to play Sunday. Covey has logged seven catches on as many targets for 34 yards in three regular-season games.

Could return in Week 12
Covey (shoulder) is listed as questionable ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Rams.
Analysis: Covey has missed the Eagles' last seven games due to a shoulder injury sustained the Week 3 win over the Saints. The Utah product practiced in full all week and appears to be trending toward playing in Sunday's contest, but he must still be activated to Philadelphia's active roster in order to suit up. If Covey can play in Week 12, he'll likely assume the Eagles' top punt-returner duties and serve as a depth piece in their wide receiver room.

Logs full practice in return
Covey (shoulder) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: The Eagles designated Covey to return from injured reserve Wednesday, and he opened the week strong as a full participant for Philadelphia's first official practice. If he's able practice without limitations over the next two days, Covey could be activated off IR and be available for Sunday's game against the Rams. Over the first three games of the regular season, he logged seven catches on as many targets for 34 yards.

Returning to practice
Covey (shoulder) has been designated to return from injured reserve and will practice Wednesday, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Covey has been sidelined since Week 3 by the injury, but his return to the field is officially in motion. He'll now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before he needs to be added to the active roster, but he could play as soon as Sunday against the Rams if he's healthy enough to do so.

Still nursing shoulder issue
Covey (shoulder) has not been designated to return to practice from the injured reserve list after Week 11, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports.
Analysis: Covey has missed the Eagles' last seven games due to a broken shoulder he suffered in Week 3 at New Orleans, and it appears he'll probably have to sit out at least one more as Week 12 approaches. It also looks like he may have a slightly different role awaiting him when he returns, as special teams coordinator Michael Clay said Tuesday that rookie second-rounder Cooper DeJean would retain a spot in Philadelphia's punt-return unit even after Covey becomes available again.

Won't need shoulder surgery
Covey said Thursday that he won't require surgery on the shoulder injury that forced his placement on injured reserve Tuesday, and he'll be out approximately six weeks, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Covey clarified that he suffered two fractures in the shoulder in question, which he sustained this past Sunday at New Orleans, and a stint on IR means he must miss at least the next four games. Because the Eagles have a Week 5 bye, he may be able to return to action when first eligible Sunday, Nov. 3 against the Jaguars. In the meantime, Cooper DeJean is expected to handle punt returns for Philadelphia, while Jahan Dotson and Johnny Wilson are the healthy WRs on the active roster with A.J.…read more

Heads to IR
The Eagles placed Covey (shoulder) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Though the Eagles haven't provided a precise diagnosis of the shoulder injury Covey sustained in Sunday's 15-12 win over the Saints, his move to IR ensures that he'll miss at least the next four games. Philadelphia signed tight end Jack Stoll to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move, while Cooper DeJean is likely in line to serve as the Eagles' punt returner in Covey's absence.

Arm in sling after Week 3 win
Covey (shoulder) had his arm in a sling after Sunday's 15-12 win over the Saints, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Covey and DeVonta Smith (concussion) both exited the game, and the Eagles were already without wide receiver A.J. Brown (hamstring). While Covey isn't nearly as integral to the offense as Brown or Smith, Covey also fills an important special teams role as Philadelphia's punt returner. Cooper DeJean filled in as the punt returner after Covey's exit and would likely retain that role if the wide receiver is unable to suit up against the Buccaneers in Week 4.

Ruled out Sunday
Covey (shoulder) won't return to Sunday's game in New Orleans, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Covey thus will finish Week 3 with one catch (on one target) for 11 yards. With A.J. Brown (hamstring) inactive, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Parris Campbell are the current healthy wide receivers on the Eagles' active roster.

Injures shoulder Sunday
Covey suffered a shoulder injury during Sunday's game at New Orleans.
Analysis: Covey took advantage of A.J. Brown's (hamstring) absence Week 2 against the Falcons, hauling in all six of his targets for 23 yards. However, he was targeted only once (an 11-yard catch) before exiting Sunday in the second quarter. Currently, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Parris Campbell are the healthy wide receivers on the Eagles' active roster.

Reels in six grabs
Covey reeled in all six of his targets for 23 yards in Monday's 22-21 loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: With A.J. Brown (hamstring) sidelined Monday, Covey saw an increase in his playing time and target share Week 2. The third-year wideout's six targets and six catches were second to only DeVonta Smith among Philadelphia's pass catchers. Operating as the Eagles' fourth wide receiver on a team flush with playmakers, Covey will more often than not see limited opportunities in Philadelphia's offense once Brown returns from his injury. Taking part in OTAs
Covey (knee) participated in the Eagles' offseason practice Thursday, per Glenn Erby of USA Today.
Analysis: Covey had knee surgery in the offseason but appears to have recovered well given his ability to participate in the practice session. The 27-year-old is slated to work as Philadelphia's primary punt/kick returner in 2024 and should also see some limited work as a receiver in the team's passing game.

Has knee surgery
Covey underwent a procedure on his left knee this offseason, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: The punt returner noted it likely contributed to the nagging quad issue he dealt with during the season, per McLane. As a receiver, Covey caught four balls for 42 yards and no touchdowns in 16 games in 2023, though he did averaged the second-most yards per punt return (14.4) in the league. In 17 games in 2022 with the Eagles, Covey did not record a catch.

Almost exclusively on special teams
Covey appeared in 16 regular-season games but was almost exclusively used as a kick and punt returner, catching just four passes for 42 yards.
Analysis: Covey played all 17 games in 2022 without being targeted a single time, so his six targets in 2023 represent a step forward. Five of those targets came in Week 18, with the Eagles resting starters for part of the game, so there's little reason to believe Covey is a threat for even double-digit receptions next season.

Stuck in special-teams role
Covey played all three of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 42-19 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Covey's standing as the team's top punt returner rather than his contributions as a receiver have enabled him to be active for all 12 of the Eagles' games this season. The Utah product has yet to draw a target over 39 career snaps on offense through 29 games over his first two seasons in the league.

Good to go Sunday
Covey (concussion) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams.
Analysis: Covey left Philadelphia's Week 4 win over Washington late with a head injury, but he's since cleared concussion protocol and has no injury designation this coming Sunday. The Utah product is the Eagles' main punt returner, tallying 151 return yards on nine chances this season.

Gets questionable tag for Week 5
Covey (concussion) is listed as questionable to play against the Rams on Sunday, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Covey entered concussion protocol Monday after suffering a head injury late in Sunday's win over Washington. He didn't practice Wednesday but promisingly followed a limited session Thursday with a full practice Friday. That seems to give Covey a good chance of playing Sunday -- if he's able to do so, he'll likely continue to feature as the Eagles' primary punt returner.

Manages limited practice Thursday
Covey (concussion) was a limited participant at practice Thursday.
Analysis: Covey missed practice entirely Wednesday, so his limited participation Thursday represents a positive development. He still probably needs to practice fully Friday to avoid an injury designation headed into the weekend, though.

Covey (concussion) was a non-participant at the Eagles' practice Wednesday.

Enters protocols
Covey suffered a head injury late in Sunday's win over the Commanders and has entered the league's concussion protocols, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Covey will need to clear the league's five-step process to be able to suit up Week 5 against the Rams, which will likely be a tall task for the Utah product. Assuming he is unable to play, Boston Scott and Olamide Zaccheaus will be candidates to handle return duties on the road against the Rams on Sunday.

Upgraded to full Thursday
Covey (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: It's an upgrade after Covey was limited Wednesday. The Eagles' return man, Covey has six punt returns for 113 yards, including a long gain of 52 yards.

Dealing with hamstring issue
Covey was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice estimate due to a hamstring injury.
Analysis: Through three games, Covey is averaging a robust 18.8 yards on his six punt returns while also recording one 30-yard kick return. The 26-year-old is now tending to a hamstring issue that could sap some of his explosiveness in the short term, though his ability to open the week as a limited participant at least bodes well for his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Commanders.

Joins 53-man roster
The Eagles signed Covey off their practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Covey was elevated from the practice squad for both of the team's first two games of the season, but he'll now get a more permanent spot on the 53-man roster. The second-year player out of Utah should operate as a depth option at receiver and continue to work as the Eagles' top punt returner.

Gets elevation to 53-man roster
Philadelphia elevated Covey from its practice squad to the 53-man roster ahead of its game versus Minnesota on Thursday.
Analysis: After suiting up and playing exclusively on special teams in Week 1, Covey will once again be available for the Eagles in Week 2. He is a good candidate to return punts, but it's not very likely he will see many offensive snaps unless Philadelphia jumps out to an insurmountable lead early.

Covey reverted to the Eagles' practice squad Monday.

Covey was waived by the Eagles on Tuesday, John Clark reports.
Analysis: Covey's exit comes as a bit of a surprise after he appeared in 17 games with the team last season. He was in the mix for a depth receiver role as well as return duties.
