Narrowly misses TD
Rice caught five of seven targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 41-10 win over Chicago.
Analysis: Rice appeared to have scored the second touchdown of his young career on a 14-yard reception early in the second quarter, but replay review overturned the score, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire punched it in on the ensuing play. It was still a strong performance from Rice, who finished second behind Travis Kelce in receptions, targets and yardage Sunday. Patrick Mahomes likes to spread the ball around to his auxiliary targets, so it's tough to predict this kind of workload every week. That said, Rice…read more

Two grabs in win
Rice secured both of his targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Rice played just 12 of the Chiefs' 67 offensive snaps, behind fellow wideouts Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson and Kadarius Toney. The rookie second-round pick found the end zone in his NFL debut in Week 1, but his snap share took a dip in Week 2. Fantasy managers hoping for a breakout should temper expectations going forward, as Patrick Mahomes is spreading the ball around and Rice's limited usage should cap his potential. It's possible the 23-year-old could see his playing…read more

Scores in NFL debut
Rice brought in three of five targets for 29 yards and a touchdown and rushed once for minus-3 yards in the Chiefs' 21-20 loss to the Lions on Thursday night.
Analysis: The rookie found a way to make an immediate impact, recording a one-yard touchdown grab early in the second quarter for the Chiefs' first points of the new season. Rice finished tied for second in receptions and for the lead in targets on a night where Patrick Mahomes spread the ball around to 11 different players in the absence of Travis Kelce (knee). Therefore, it's difficult to gauge exactly how much volume he might see during a Week 2 road matchup against the Jaguars a week from Sunday if…read more

Starting in bench role
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach suggested Wednesday that Rice will start the season as a part-time player, Jesse Newell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Veach used the term "package player" to describe Rice and Justyn Ross, while 2022 second-round pick Skyy Moore was said to have earned an "every-down" role. Rice, a 2023 second-round selection, had the fifth-most receiving yards (155) in the NFL this preseason, but he spent significant time playing with backups and dropped two or three passes in the Chiefs' final exhibition. His role for Week 1 against the Lions partially depends on the health of Kadarius Toney's knee, with Moore and Marquez…read more

Ends preseason poorly
Rice recorded three receptions on six targets for 29 yards in Saturday's 33-32 preseason win over the Browns.
Analysis: The good news about Rice's performance is that he was open and commanded targets, as he tied for the team lead with six looks. The bad news is that he failed to take advantage of that opportunity due to drops, with one being a potentially long touchdown down the right sideline. Rice has primarily been impressive in the first summer of his professional career, though it appears he'll enter the season behind Kadarius Toney (knee), Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore in priority for targets.

Spectacular showing in win
Rice brought in eight of nine targets for 96 yards in the Buccaneers' 38-10 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night. He also fumbled once but recovered.
Analysis: The rookie second-round pick enjoyed a breakout performance, especially by preseason standards. Rice's receiving line comfortably led the Chiefs across the board, and only one of his receptions actually came in conjunction with Patrick Mahomes. Rice's big workload isn't necessarily a reflection of what might be expected during the regular season, but as he demonstrated Saturday, he certainly has no shortage of upside in a Mahomes-helmed offense that spreads the ball around.

Makes three grabs
Rice caught three of four targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 26-24 preseason loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Rice's first catch came from Blaine Gabbert on Kansas City's second drive of the game. Although only Nikko Remigio made more receptions for the Chiefs than Rice, the rookie second-rounder dropped a pass and committed a false start during his time on the field. With Kadarius Toney (knee) likely sidelined for the preseason, Rice will strive to eliminate mistakes and continue pushing for more action in next Sunday's exhibition contest versus the Cardinals.

Helps fill in for Toney
In the wake of the knee injury Kadarius Toney sustained Sunday, Nate Taylor of the Athletic relays that Rice has seen increased work with the Chiefs' first-team offense.
Analysis: Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said Rice has "made incremental improvements" each day, with Taylor noting that the 2023 second-rounder has seen the most first-team reps of any Chiefs wide receiver since Toney injured his knee. Given that Toney's Week 1 availability is up in the air, Rice has multiple paths to significant paying time early in his rookie season. Marquez Valdes-Scantling is the team's only returning starter from last year in the WR room, joined by Skyy Moore, Richie James, Justin…read more

Should see more opportunities
Rice could see a bigger role during training camp while Kadarius Toney (knee) is sidelined, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Rice was picked 55th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, after Kansas City traded up nine spots to grab him. In his last season at SMU, the physical wideout racked up 96 receptions for 1,355 yards and 10 touchdowns. Toney has an uncertain recovery timeline from his partially torn meniscus, which paves the way for other options like Rice to try and establish some chemistry with Patrick Mahomes.
