Set for QB2 duties rest of season
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Tuesday that Brosmer will be the Vikings' backup quarterback behind J.J. McCarthy (ankle) for the rest of the 2025 season in the absence of Carson Wentz (shoulder), Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Brosmer was initially expected to revert to the emergency third quarterback role once McCarthy was fully recovered from his ankle injury. However, with Wentz set to undergo season-ending surgery to address his left shoulder injury, Brosmer is slated to serve as the Vikings' backup for the rest of the season. Brosmer has been the Vikings' QB2 since Week 3 and has appeared in three games, completing 5 of 8 passes for 42 yards over that span.

Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Brosmer will operate as the No. 2 quarterback behind Carson Wentz during Sunday's game against the Bengals, Ben Goessling of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Brosmer spent the first two weeks of the regular season handling emergency No. 3 quarterback duties, but with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) now likely out at least two weeks, he's set for a temporary promotion behind Wentz. Meanwhile, new roster addition Desmond Ridder will work as the No. 3 quarterback versus Cincinnati on Sunday.

Available as emergency quarterback
Brosmer (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday night's game against the Falcons but is available as the emergency third-string quarerback, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.
Analysis: As the emergency third quarterback, Brosmer will be permitted to see the field only if both J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz are taken out due to injury, illness or ejection. Brosmer played in all three of the Vikings' preseason games, completing 60.3 percent of his passes for 364 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while adding four carries for seven yards.

Pads stats late in preseason start
Brosmer completed 15 of 23 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Friday's 23-13 preseason loss to the Titans. He added two rushes for five yards.
Analysis: Brosmer started the game with both J.J. McCarthy and Sam Howell resting and led two drives before giving way to Brett Rypien. However, Rypien was checked for a concussion after taking a hard hit, ultimately allowing Brosmer to get extended run. Brosmer was able to pad his stats with the added opportunity thanks to a few big plays to start the third quarter, when he connected with Dontae Fleming and Bryson Nesbit for 36 and 21 yard gains, respectively -- the latter of which went for a touchdown.…read more

Draws praise for preseason play
Brosmer was 15-of-27 passing for 156 yards with an interception in Saturday's preseason loss to New England. He was sacked four times, but head coach Kevin O'Connell praised Brosmer's decisiveness, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Despite throwing an interception, Brosmer drew praise from the coaching staff for playing well under a heavy pass rush during his time playing in the second half. Brosmer looks ahead of Brett Rypien at this point in the battle for the No. 3 QB role.

Brosmer was 5-of-8 passing for 47 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason win over Houston.
Analysis: Brosmer entered the game in the fourth quarter and outplayed Brett Rypien in the battle for the No. 3 QB role. It seems unlikely the Vikings will keep three quarterbacks on the roster, making Brosmer, an undrafted free agent from Minnesota, a more likely candidate for the practice squad.
