Snags catch in loss
Roberts caught one of three targets for seven yards during Sunday's 19-16 loss to Cleveland, adding 115 yards on five kick returns and 34 yards on two punt returns.
Analysis: Roberts' three targets were his most of 2019 and his catch was just his second of the season. The veteran has been an effective returner for Buffalo, ranking fourth in the league with 28.6 yards per kick return and 14th in the league at 6.9 yards per punt return, but his value seems to begin and end there. He shouldn't be on your radar Sunday against a rapidly improving Dolphins squad.

Catchless in victory
Roberts was unable to haul in his lone target during Sunday's 31-21 win over the Dolphins.
Analysis: In Buffalo's first game since Zay Jones was traded to Oakland, Roberts' role in the offense didn't change much, with seven total offensive snaps after averaging 7.3 offensive snaps in the previous three games. Duke Williams' (shoulder) status Sunday could give Roberts a little more opportunity against a leaky Philadelphia defense, but it's hard to imagine a scenario in which Roberts catches more than a pass or two as a gameday WR3 or WR4.

Big factor in return game
Roberts returned six punts for 46 yards and two kickoffs for 71 yards in Sunday's loss to the Patriots. He also caught one ball for six yards while seeing eight snaps on offense.
Analysis: Roberts is one of the league's best in the return game, and though he missed the first two contests with a quadriceps injury, he's on his way to boosting the Bills' special teams in his first season with the team. He'll see nearly all the returns from here on out, while being sprinkled in occasionally on offense.

Makes Buffalo debut
Roberts, returning from a quadriceps injury, made his Bills debut Sunday. He returned one kickoff for 23 yards and three punts for four yards.
Analysis: Roberts only saw two snaps on offense, somewhat disappointing after his strong summer, though the team seemed to move on without him offensively following the untimely injury. He looked to be getting re-acclimated with things on punt returns, visibly out of sync with the team's blocking. Given Roberts' fine return skills though, there's no reason he won't start ripping off better returns now that he's seemingly past the injury.

Ready to rock
Roberts (quadriceps) was a full participant in Friday's practice.
Analysis: Roberts was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, but he appears to have gotten over his quadriceps issue. He'll look to make an impact in the return game versus Cincinnati on Sunday, as he'll likely serve as the primary guy on both kickoff and punt returns.

Limited again
Roberts (quadriceps) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Roberts has now logged two consecutive limited practice sessions after not participating at all last week. Depending on the extent of his participation in Friday's practice, Roberts could make his season debut Sunday versus Cincinnati.

Limited in practice
Roberts (quadriceps) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.
Analysis: Roberts didn't practice at all last week but is trending toward making his season debut Sunday against the Bengals. The Bills don't really need his help at receiver, though they haven't shown much in the return game yet and Roberts is one of the best in the league in that area.

To miss second straight week
Roberts (quad) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at the Giants, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: The injury isn't considered a long-term issue, but it's gotten Roberts' Bills career off on the wrong foot, as he'll now be inactive for the team's first two games. Isaiah McKenzie will pick up extra work in the receiving and kickoff return areas for another week, while Micah Hyde or others will fill Roberts' punt return chores.

Sitting out Friday's practice
Roberts (quad) will miss a third straight practice Friday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Roberts didn't play last week against the Jets, while his status for Week 2 seems very much up in the air. The return game takes a pretty big hit when he's not available, though we'll see if he can at least earn the "questionable" tag for Sunday, as he's been reportedly progressing in the right direction, albeit slowly.

Another missed practice
Roberts is sitting out a second straight practice due to a quad injury suffered in Week 1, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Bills can replace Roberts at receiver but he's one of the league's best returners, a job that will be shared by Isaiah McKenzie and Micah Hyde (and perhaps Devin Singletary) in Week 2 against the Giants if Roberts has to sit another week. He'll get one more chance to put his hat in the ring if he can practice to some degree Friday.

Sitting out Wednesday's session
Roberts, who missed Sunday's win over the Jets with a quadriceps injury, isn't practicing Wednesday, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Roberts was reportedly doing a lot better leading into the week, but his absence Wednesday is not a great sign. Isaiah McKenzie and Micah Hyde would likely fill in for Roberts on the Bills' return units again if he can't find his way back to the field for the Week 2 game against the Giants.

No-go for Sunday
Roberts (quad) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Roberts had a great training camp and preseason and was set to have a key role as a returner/receiver combo, but the injury cropped up recently, and now he won't get a chance to sting his former team until later in the season. The likely candidates to fill Roberts' return-man role are Devin Singletary (kickoffs) and Micah Hyde (punts), though the Bills may use multiple folks on punt returns given Hyde's key defensive role.

Game-time decision for Sunday
Roberts (quadriceps) is considered a game-time decision for Sunday's contest against the Jets, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Roberts, who failed to practice for the second straight day Thursday, is Buffalo's top return man and also provides the team with receiver depth. If he's unable to suit up for the regular-season opener versus the Jets, Devin Singletary should see work returning kickoffs and Micah Hyde will handle punt returns.

Dealing with quad injury
Roberts (quadriceps) sat out of Wednesday's practice, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Roberts locked down a roster spot this preseason by excelling as a specialist and holding his own as a wide receiver, Now, he's considered day-to-day ahead of the season opener versus the Jets, his former team. If he's unable to suit up for Sunday's game, expect Devin Singletary to take over kickoff return duties and Micah Hyde to return punts.

Roster spot nearly sealed
Roberts has been sprinkled in with the first unit during recent training camp practices, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. Said coach Sean McDermott, " I think he's been more than a returner over the course of his career if you go back to Arizona, having gone against him. He's a great teammate, positive guy, great energy, puts the team first and I think he's done some nice things from the line of scrimmage too."
Analysis: Roberts is not going to beat out John Brown, Zay Jones or Cole Beasley for a top spot in the offense, though he could work his way into a No. 4 or No. 5 receiving job with Robert Foster. Whether the Bills keep five or six receivers, Roberts is a near lock to make the final roster due to his return prowess.

Favorite for roster spot?
Roberts is coming off an impressive week of minicamp practices and appears to have the inside track on the fifth wide receiver spot, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Roberts' skills as an elite return man give him an edge over almost every other depth receiver competing for a job this summer, but the veteran is also opening up some eyes in the passing game. Entering his 10th NFL season, he does have a few decent campaigns on his receiving ledger, most notably a 64/759/5 line in 2012 with the Cardinals, while he's come close to that a few other times, also earlier in the decade. We'll slot Roberts as a solid five on the depth chart for now -- behind Zay…read more

Going to Buffalo
The Bills agreed with Roberts on a contract Wednesday, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports.
Analysis: On the heels of posting career bests in both kickoff (1,174) and punt (324) return yards last season, Roberts earned All-Pro and Pro-Bowl honors. He'll now move within the AFC East from the Jets to the Bills, where he should take on a similar workload on special teams. When it comes to offensive contributions, however, Roberts will have a tough time nudging fellow receivers John Brown, Cole Beasley, Robert Foster and Zay Jones out of the lineup.

Hitting open market
Roberts isn't expected to re-sign with the Jets this offseason, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: On the same day the Jets let 2018 Pro Bowl kicker Jason Myers walk in free agency, the organization will now apparently cut ties with another special-teams Pro Bowler in Roberts, a standout kick returner. While Roberts should command heavy interest on the open market as a return man, it's far too early to speculate who might take over his former role in New York.

Among best return men in 2018
Roberts capped his season with three catches for 28 yards on four targets in Sunday's 38-3 loss to New England, giving him a total of 10 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown on the season.
Analysis: Roberts saw more action on offense than usual due to injuries to the Jets' wide receiver corps, but the majority of his value comes on special teams. He was among the league's best returners this season, recording 132 or more kick return yards four times, while also topping that mark once as a punt returner and scoring a touchdown of each kind. There should be a robust market for the free agent's special teams services.

Set for increased role
Roberts will have an elevated role in the offense Sunday at New England with Quincy Enunwa (ankle) and Jermaine Kearse (Achilles) sidelined, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Roberts rarely has been used on offense this season, but his return ability hasn't gone unnoticed. Overall, he leads the NFL in kickoff return yards (1,115), kick return average (29.3) and punt return average (14.7), earning him a Pro Bowl nod. In the four contests in which he's earned at least 38 percent of the offensive snaps in 2018, Roberts has hauled in five of his 11 targets for 37 yards and one TD. On Sunday, work will be available, but Robby Anderson, Chris Herndon and Elijah McGuire…read more

Continues to thrive in return game
Roberts scored a 99-yard kickoff return touchdown in Sunday's 44-38 overtime loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Roberts didn't make an impact on offense, but he was still a major contributor in this high-scoring affair thanks to some critical plays on special teams. In addition to his 99-yard touchdown, Roberts set up the Jets' game-tying field goal late in regulation with a 51-yard kickoff return.

Snags rare receiving TD
Roberts caught three of four targets for 16 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 29-22 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Roberts' 13-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter was just his second receiving score since the start of the 2015 campaign, as his impact primarily comes on special teams. His contributions in his usual capacity as a return man consisted of three kick returns for 71 yards and two punt returns for 22 yards.

Two nice gains on offense
Roberts caught his lone target for 10 yards and added an 18-yard carry in Sunday's 26-22 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Roberts dealt with a minor foot injury during the week, but he looked healthy as ever in this one. In addition to his pair of gains on offense, Roberts totaled 82 yards on two kick returns and four yards on a punt return.

Good to go Sunday
Roberts (foot) won't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Tennessee, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Roberts was added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant, but his return to full participation Friday indicates it was a minor issue. The 30-year-old should return kickoffs and punts for the Jets, per usual.

Pops up on injury report
Roberts (foot) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Roberts was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, so it remains to be seen where he picked up the foot injury. With Trenton Cannon's (hamstring) status for Sunday's tilt against the Titans also in question, the Jets could realistically be without either designated kick returner. If neither Roberts nor Cannon is able to suit up Week 13, one of Elijah McGuire or Deontay Burnett could see work returning kicks.

Will play Sunday
Roberts (back) will play in Sunday's game against Miami.
Analysis: Roberts came into Sunday with a rather murky forecast surrounding his availability, but, after holding up well through warmups, it seems the Jets feel content with his health moving forward. With both Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa suiting up, Roberts figures to have a minimal role in the passing game but should be the Jets primary return man.

Questionable for Sunday
Roberts (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Miami, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports.
Analysis: Roberts was added to the injury report as a limited participant Thursday and did not participate at Friday's practice, so he's currently trending in the wrong direction. Trenton Cannon would likely take over kick and punt returns should Roberts be unable to play Sunday.

Limited in practice Thursday
Roberts (back) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Darryl Slater of NJ.com reports.
Analysis: Roberts was a surprise addition to Thursday's injury report, given that he was not listed to begin the week. The veteran return man should be considered questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. If Roberts is unable to suit up, Trenton Cannon would slot in as the Jets' starting kickoff and punt returner.
