Nails three field goals in win
Gay went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts while making his only extra-point try in Sunday's 28-27 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Gay was once again able to make multiple field goals in Week 11, marking the eighth consecutive contest that he's done so. The kicker most notably made a 56-yarder Sunday and he's now made 19 of 22 field-goal tries this season, including four makes from over 50 yards.

Makes two field goals Sunday
Gay made both of his field-goal tries and both of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's Week 10 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Gay wasn't really challenged, as his field goals came from 27 and 23 yards, respectively, but he nonetheless did his job in making all four of his kicks. The veteran placekicker has made multiple field goals in each of his past seven contests, giving him a solid floor in fantasy leagues. However, he's gone just 2-for-5 on attempts of 50-plus yards this year after making 15 of 22 tries from that distance across the previous two campaigns.

Imperfect in loss
Gay made two of his three field-goal tries and converted his only extra-point attempt during Sunday's 21-13 loss at Minnesota.
Analysis: Gay made multiple field goals for his sixth consecutive game in Week 9, but the struggles from long range he dealt with early in the season resurfaced Sunday when he hooked a 53-yard try left late in the second quarter. He'll be kicking in a dome again in Week 10 when Indianapolis hosts the Bills.

Perfect in Week 8
Gay went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and made both of his extra-point tries in the Colts' 23-20 loss to the Texans on Sunday.
Analysis: Gay was once again perfect in Week 8, nailing a 46-yard field goal in the first quarter and a 37-yarder in the third. Through seven games in 2024, the kicker has gone 12-for-13 on field goals and a perfect 16-for-16 on PATs.

Busy in close win
Gay made all three of his field-goal attempts and converted his only extra-point try in Sunday's 16-10 win versus the Dolphins.
Analysis: Gay started the scoring for Indianapolis at the end of the first half with a 52-yard field goal, his first make from 50-plus yards this season. He's now attempted multiple field goals without a miss in three straight contests and will at least have favorable conditions on his side in Week 8 at Houston.

Does job in win
Gay made both of his two field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-17 win at Tennessee.
Analysis: Both of Gay's field goals came from less than 30 yards out, and he's still perfect from that range for his career. However, he doesn't have a field goal from longer than 40 yards through five games this season, so he'll still be looking for his first from that range in Week 7 versus the Dolphins.

Stays busy in loss
Gay made four extra-point tries and both of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Gay connected from 30 and 37 yards out, bringing him to 5-for-7 on FGAs this season, with both misses coming from 50-plus yards out in three games. The Utah product will work to stay on track in Week 6 against the Titans.

Misses one in win
Gay made all three of his extra-point tries but missed one of his three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Gay connected on FGAs of 33 and 35 yards, but he missed a 54-yard attempt in the third quarter that would have given the Colts a 20-3 lead. The Utah product is now 0-for-2 from 50-plus yards on the season, but he is 7-for-7 on PATs.

No field goals
Gay made all three of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Bears.
Analysis: Gay spent the week dealing with a quadriceps injury but was still able to handle kicking duties for the Colts in Week 3. The Utah product wasn't needed often, though, and didn't have the opportunity to attempt a field goal. Next week Gay and the Colts will host the Steelers.

Ready for Week 3
Gay (quadriceps) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest against the Bears.
Analysis: After sitting out Week 1 due to still being in recovery mode from sports hernia surgery, Gay made his season debut this past Sunday in Green Bay, making his only point-after try but just one of two field-goal attempts. He then sat out Wednesday's practice with a quad injury, only to cap the week with back-to-back full sessions. Gay thus is set to play versus a Chicago team that sits in a tie for sixth in the NFL in terms of points against at 18.0 per game.

Should be good to go Sunday
Gay (quadriceps) was a full participant during practice Thursday, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Gay didn't practice Wednesday, but his return to a full session Thursday is an encouraging sign that suggests he'll be handling kicking duties for the Colts on Sunday against the Bears. After missing the Colts' Week 1 loss to the Texans, Gay returned to action for the Week 2 loss to the Packers and knocked down his lone extra-point try and one of two field-goal attempts.

Kicking at Thursday's practice
Gay (quadriceps) is handling kicking duties at practice Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gay couldn't practice Wednesday, so it's encouraging to see him back on the field Thursday. The veteran kicker missed Week 1 due to offseason sports hernia surgery and is now nursing a new quad issue, but he looks to be making good progress ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Bears. The Colts also have kicker Spencer Shrader on the practice squad.

Unable to practice Wednesday
Gay (quadriceps) did not practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gay is dealing with a quad injury after missing Week 1 while recovering from sports hernia surgery. The veteran missed a field-goal attempt wide left from 50 yards during Indianapolis' loss to Green Bay, though he converted his only other attempt from 34 yards out, plus his lone extra-point try. Gay will have two more chances to improve his practice level ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears.

Misses in return
Gay made his only extra-point try but failed to convert one of his two field goal attempts in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Gay missed Week 1 as he recovered from sports hernia surgery. His return in Week 2 didn't go as planned, as he missed a 50-yard FGA in the loss Sunday. He did, however, connect on a 34-yard attempt to make the score 13-3 before halftime. Gay's next opportunity will come in Week 3 against the Bears.

All clear for Week 2
Gay (sports hernia) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
Analysis: Gay sat out the Colts' Week 1 loss to the Texans while recovering from sports hernia surgery, but head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Wednesday that the kicker is "good to go" for Sunday's road matchup in Green Bay, per George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin. During the 2023 season, Gay appeared in all 17 games and converted 33 of 41 field-goal attempts -- including an 8-for-13 mark from 50-plus yards -- while knocking down 35 of 36 extra-point tries.

Should play Week 2
Head coach Shane Steichen stated that Gay (sports hernia) is "good to go" for Sunday's game against the Packers, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Analysis: Gay is expected to return to practice Wednesday after being out of action since undergoing surgery, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. The Utah product was replaced by Spencer Shrader for Week 1's loss to the Texans, who has since reverted to the team's practice squad. However, an official word on who will be kicking for the Colts in Week 2 won't come until Gay is absent from the team's injury report.

Could return Week 2
Head coach Shane Steichen said Monday that Gay (sports hernia) will continue to be monitored throughout the week, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Analysis: Gay wasn't able to play in the Colts' Week 1 loss to the Texans while he recovered from the sports hernia procedure he underwent shortly after Indianapolis' preseason finale, but the veteran kicker looks like he could move past the issue soon. The Colts will monitor Gay's activity in practice this week before determining his availability for Sunday's game in Green Bay, but if he's unable to kick this weekend, Indianapolis would likely elevate Spencer Shrader from the practice squad once again.…read more

Inactive for opener
Gay (hernia) is inactive Week 1 against the Texans.
Analysis: The writing was on the wall when Indianapolis activated fellow place kicker Spencer Shrader from the practice squad Saturday, and now Shrader is in line to officially assume kicking duties Sunday. Gay's next chance to return will be Week 2 in Green Bay, but the first step will be returning to the practice field -- something he was unable to accomplish in the three team practices leading up to the opener.

Status in question for Sunday
Gay (hernia) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Texans.
Analysis: Gay has been in recovery mode since undergoing surgery on a sports hernia following Indianapolis' last preseason game Aug. 22. He didn't practice at all this week, but the team still is giving him a chance to serve as its placekicker Sunday. Head coach Shane Steichen told JJ Stankewitz of the Colts' official site Friday that Spencer Shrader will be called up from the practice squad to handle kicking duties this weekend if Gay is deemed inactive 90 minutes before a 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

Looking unlikely for Sunday
Gay (sports hernia) is not participating in Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gay hasn't practiced in any capacity this week while recovering from sports hernia surgery, making him look like a strong candidate to sit out Sunday's regular-season opener against the Texans. Friday's official practice report will reveal Gay's injury designation for Week 1. If Gay can't go, undrafted rookie Spencer Shrader will work as Indianapolis' starting kicker versus Houston.

Absent from field
Gay (sports hernia) is not practicing Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gay's status for Week 1 against the Texans is firmly in question after he underwent a procedure to address a sports hernia following the team's final preseason game Aug. 22. The team still hasn't elevated Spencer Shrader from the practice squad, but if Gay is unable to suit up, the former is the likeliest option to handle kicking duties for the Colts on Sunday.

Underwent sports hernia procedure
Gay said Wednesday that he underwent a procedure to address a sports hernia following the Colts' final preseason game Aug. 22, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: As a result, Gay doesn't know if he'll be available for Sunday's season opener against Houston, according to Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star. If the veteran kicker ends up sidelined this weekend, the Colts have the option of elevating practice-squad member Spencer Shrader ahead of the Week 1 contest.

Misses practice Wednesday
Gay (sports hernia) didn't practice Wednesday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Head coach Shane Steichen clarified Wednesday that Gay is dealing with a sports hernia injury rather than the groin issue that had been previously reported. While Steichen wouldn't comment on whether Gay had surgery, he did say the issue is not a long-term concern for the kicker. If Gay is unavailable for Sunday's season opener against the Texans, the Colts can promote Spencer Shrader from the practice squad to handle kicking duties Week 1.

Missing field goals in preseason
Gay missed field-goal attempts from 56 and 44 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Arizona. He converted all three extra-point attempts.
Analysis: Gay is just 1-for-4 in field-goal attempts in two preseason games, also missing a 36-yard attempt in the first exhibition. His only make is from 26 yards. We wouldn't be too worried about a miss longer than 50 yards, but Gay signed one of the largest contracts in the league for a kicker (four-year, $22.5 million deal) to be more reliable than he's shown in the preseason.

Misses one in loss
Gay made three of four field-goal attempts in Saturday's 23-19 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Gay's lone miss came from 57 yards out and although it had the distance, hit the right upright and failed to go through. However, he was successful in the contest from 52, 38 and 35 yards, but the Colts ultimately suffered a season-ending loss. The Utah product made a career-high 33 field goals this year, including eight from 50 yards and beyond, which was also a career best. Gay made all three of his field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Raiders.

Gay made his lone field-goal try and his sole extra-point attempt during Sunday's 29-10 loss to the Falcons.

Cleared for Week 16
Gay (hip) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Analysis: Gay increased his practice participation throughout the week and participated without limitations Friday to shed his injury designation. The 29-year-old kicker will look to get back on track Sunday after missing two kicks in each of his last two games.

Gets in limited practice
Gay (hip) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Gay was estimated as a non-participant Wednesday on the Colts' first Week 16 injury report, but he was able to take a step forward in terms of activity Thursday. If Gay is able to upgrade to full participation Friday, he'll likely avoid an injury designation for Sunday's game in Atlanta. The 29-year-old kicker has converted 26 of 33 field-goal tries and is 32-for-33 on extra-point tries over his 14 appearances this season.

Estimated as non-participant
Gay was listed as a non-participant Wednesday on the Colts' practice estimate due to a right hip injury.
Analysis: Gay is nursing the injury after he knocked down all three of his extra-point tries and three of five field-goal attempts in this past Saturday's 30-13 win over the Steelers. He'll probably need to practice in full Thursday or Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into this weekend's game in Atlanta.

Busy in victory
Gay converted three of his five field-goal attempts and made all three extra-point tries in Saturday's 30-13 win over the Steelers.
Analysis: Gay missed wide left on a 56-yard attempt on the Colts' opening drive, but he was then able to follow that up with successful attempts from 29 and 31 yards out. Unfortunately for Gay and his fantasy managers, he then missed again from 43 yards, hitting the right upright before closing up his day with a 42-yard make as the game neared its end. Gay missed his only field goal and extra-point attempt in Sunday's 34-14 loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Gay's missed PAT was his first of the season, while he also missed a 38-yard FGA that hit the left upright as part of a disappointing day for the Colts. The 29-year-old will work to get back on track in Week 15 against the Steelers.

Perfect in overtime win
Gay converted all of his four field-goal attempts and his only extra-point try in Sunday's 31-28 overtime win at Tennessee.
Analysis: All of Gay's kicks in Week 13 were chip shots except for a 46-yarder he made just before the end of the first half to cut the Titans' lead to 17-13. It was a bit of a bounce back after he missed a field-goal attempt in both of the Colts' prior two games. He'll look to keep things rolling in Week 14 against a Cincinnati defense that's been quite soft so far this season, although the weather for that game will be worth keeping an eye on for fantasy managers.

Makes two field goals in win
Gay made two of three field-goal attempts and all three extra-point tries in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Gay's miss came from 58 yards out and hit the left upright to end the first half. It was his second miss from 50-plus yards on the season in 10 attempts. He was, however, able to connect from 46 and 36 yards while also making all three PATs. The Utah product is now 19-for-23 on FGAs this season and has yet to miss an extra-point attempt in 28 tries. Gay connected on all five of his field-goal tries and his lone extra-point attempt in Sunday's 22-19 overtime win over the Ravens.
Analysis: Gay was vital to his team's victory in Week 3, connecting on four field goals from 50-plus yards. Most significant were his makes from 53 yards out with just over a minute left in the game to tie it, then again from 53 in overtime to get the win. However, Gay did make good on the opportunities he saw and has now missed just two of his last 100 extra-point tries. Agrees to record-setting deal
Gay agreed to a four-year, $22.5 million contract with the Colts on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: After signing the biggest free-agent deal for a kicker in NFL history, it's safe to assume Gay will kick for the Colts in 2023 without facing a challenge in training camp. Meanwhile, the Rams will have to find a new kicker after Gay converted 74 of 80 field-goal attempts for them over the previous three seasons.

Productive in season finale
Gay connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and converted his lone extra-point try during Sunday's 19-16 overtime loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Gay opened the scoring for the Rams with a 22-yard field goal, and later tacked on field goals from 45 and 38 yards. Gay, who will be an unrestricted free agent, had another impressive season with the Rams, going 28-for-30 on field goals -- his only two misses coming from beyond 50 yards -- and 31-for-32 on extra points. The Rams will likely be keen on keeping the talented kicker, as Gay was one of the few components of the offense that was consistent from start to finish this season.

Puts up dud
Gay connected on a 23-yard field goal and made his only extra-point attempt during Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: A week removed from the best game of the season for the sure-legged kicker, Gay's prospects at repeating his performance appeared promising, as the Chargers defense looked to pose less of a threat than the Broncos defense that the Rams tore apart in Week 16. Aside from a chip-shot field goal to close out the first quarter, however, Gay would only find one other opportunity to produce points, booting a PAT after Malcolm Brown punched in a 21-yard rushing touchdown. Erupts with monster game
Gay connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and converted all six of extra-point tries during Sunday's 51-14 victory against the Broncos.
Analysis: Fantasy managers that chose to rely on one of the NFL's most accurate kickers against the top defense in the league were rewarded handsomely, as Gay booted field goals of 55, 53 and 30 yards while adding a whopping six extra-point kicks. Baker Mayfield was able to pick apart the Broncos by relying heavily on his tight ends and Cam Akers, which gave Gay an abundance of opportunities to put up points. A much less intimidating defense is on tap for Week 17 in that of the Chargers, putting Gay back…read more

Misses first extra point of season
Gay connected on both of his field-goal attempts and failed to convert his only extra-point attempt during Monday's 24-12 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Gay hadn't missed an extra point since Week 5 of the 2021 campaign, so the miss in the frigid air of Lambeau Field should be looked at as an outlier, not a trend. In fact, Gay booted a 55-yard field goal in the second quarter, the third 50-plus yard field goal made at Lambeau Field with temperatures under 25 degrees, and chipped in a 33-yarder as well to keep up his stellar 21-for-23 record on field-goal attempts with three games to go.

Misses 61-yard field goal in win
Gay connected on one of two field-goal attempts and converted both of his extra-point attempts in Thursday's 17-16 win against the Raiders.
Analysis: It's hard to find fault in Gay's miss of a lengthy 61-yard field-goal attempt, which went wide left, due to an unnecessary roughness penalty called on Coleman Shelton that pushed what would've been a much more manageable 46-yard field goal back. Gay booted in a long field goal from 55 yards in the first quarter and remained perfect on both of his extra points to help secure the Rams' first win in over a month.

Ties season high with three FGs
Gay connected on all three of his field-goal attempts and went 2-for-2 on extra-point tries during Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Fantasy managers that were brave enough to start the slumping Gay were rewarded, as Gay connected on a long 54-yard attempt, along with makes from 40 and 32 yards, and continued his season-long perfect streak on extra-point tries. The accurate kicker takes on a Raiders defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in Week 14, which may give Gay more kicking opportunities for a second straight week.

Just one field goal in loss
Gay connected on a 47-yard field goal and converted his only extra-point try in Sunday's 26-10 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: With Matthew Stafford (neck) and Allen Robinson (foot) joining Cooper Kupp (ankle) on the sidelines, the rest of the Rams' anemic offense did little in helping Gay get into a position to produce. Despite booting a lengthy 47-yard field goal in the first quarter, Gay wouldn't be called into action again until punching in an extra point in the fourth quarter. Perfect against Saints
Gay connected on both field-goal attempts and went 2-for-2 on extra-point tries during Sunday's 27-20 loss against the Saints.
Analysis: Gay's production got a major boost in the form of a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter. The strong-legged kicker booted a 58-yard field goal with just 11 seconds left in the game, and he added a 33-yard chip shot at the start of the quarter. This was Gay's best performance for fantasy purposes since Week 4, and the veteran has a nearly flawless 14-for-15 record on field-goal attempts on the season.

Quiet against Cardinals
Gay connected on a 37-yard field goal and went 2-for-2 on extra-point tries during Sunday's 27-17 loss against the Cardinals.
Analysis: It was more of the same for the reliable Gay, as he had another perfect day of kicks, but once again had very little in the way of volume to help make him a viable fantasy option. The Rams looked dreadful on offense with Matthew Stafford (concussion) out, and the impending potential absence of Cooper Kupp (ankle) will only add to the difficulty of Gay finding scoring opportunities in the short term.

Makes two field goals
Gay connected on both field-goal attempts and converted his only extra-point try in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Gay was able boot his first field goals since Week 6 in the third quarter, hitting attempts from 26 and 35 yards out. Gay's fantasy ceiling is capped by the anemic state of the Rams offense, however, as Los Angeles has only cleared 14 points once since a Week 3 victory against the Cardinals. The Rams' next opponent just happens to be Arizona, which has given up over 30 points in three straight contests, affording Gay a slightly more optimistic outlook in Week 10.

No field-goal attempts in loss
Gay did not attempt a field goal Sunday while going 2-for-2 on extra-point tries in the Rams' 31-14 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Gay failed to produce at least one field goal for the first time this season, but he remained perfect on extra-point attempts, raising his season total to 13-for-13 over seven contests. The kicker remains one of the more accurate options in the league, going 9-for-10 on field goals in addition to his success on extra points. Gay could be more involved in Week 9 against the Buccaneers as both teams will look to rebound off disappointing losses.

Perfect performance in win
Gay made a 21-yard field goal and went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts in Sunday's 24-10 win against the Panthers.
Analysis: Gay's second quarter chip shot was his sixth field-goal attempt of under 30 yards on the season. The veteran kicker has made just nine field goals and 11 extra points thus far, disappointing numbers for one of the more reliable fantasy kicking options from the 2021 campaign. Misses 51-yard field goal in loss
Gay connected on one of two field-goal attempts and converted his only extra-point attempt in Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: The Rams offense had another weak performance Sunday, limiting Gay's opportunities to produce. A 51-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter went wide right, and while Gay did connect on a 29-yard field goal in the first quarter, it marked the fourth game out of five this season where the dependable kicker has had two or less field-goal attempts. The Rams face a struggling Panthers team in Week 6 before going on bye, which may help boost Gay's otherwise pedestrian numbers.

Nails three field goals
Gay connected on all three field-goal attempts during Monday's 24-9 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: It was another perfect performance for Gay, who opened the game with a 39-yard field goal before adding two short field goals in the second and third quarter, respectively. The Rams have struggled offensively to start the year, which is reflected in Gay's limited usage. Week 5 brings the Cowboys to town featuring a defense hasn't given up more than 17 points in a game this season, so scoring opportunities may be at a premium again for the big-legged kicker.

Gay connected on two field-goal kicks and both extra-point attempts during Sunday's 20-12 victory against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Gay kicked off the scoring for the Rams, punching in a 22-yard field goal in the first quarter, and he added a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter. Gay is a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 7-for-7 on extra point attempts on the season thus far, par for the course from one of the more accurate kickers in the NFL.

Perfect against Falcons
Gay connected on his only field-goal attempt and made all four of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 31-27 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Gay was busy early, as the Rams scored a touchdown on four of their first five drives. After that, he saw the field just once more, booting a chip shot 20-yard field goal in the fourth quarter. The Rams offense, which struggled heavily in the season opener against the Bills, rebounded well against the Falcons, and Gay will look to continue to contribute in a Week 3 matchup against the Cardinals.

Hits long FG in opener
Gay connected on a 57-yard field goal and made his only extra-point attempt in the Rams' 31-10 loss to the Bills on Thursday night.
Analysis: Gay got only a single opportunity to show off one of the most reliable legs in the NFL during the Rams' season opener, but he did so in spectacular fashion, drilling a lengthy 57-yard field goal in the second quarter to tie the game. That would be the last time Gay would take the field, as the Bills shut down the Rams offense from there. Gay should have more chances to produce in a Week 2 showdown with the Falcons.

Perfect in preseason
Gay went 2-for-2 on field goals and 3-for-3 on extra points during the preseason.
Analysis: Gay's longest field goal was a 43-yard attempt during the Rams' second preseason game against the Texans. Cameron Dicker went a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points during the first preseason game against the Chargers, but he was waived Aug 16. Gay should have little difficulty hanging on to the starting role on a prolific offense, which should bring plenty of opportunities for the accurate kicker, who made 32 of 34 field-goal attempts and 48 of 49 extra-point tries during the 2021 campaign.

Analysis: The second-year kicker has been reliable for Los Angeles and fantasy managers through five games, and he's also set up for another solid performance in Week 16 against the Seahawks. Gay is worth considering in most settings.

Proves health in win
Gay connected on a 35-yard field goal and hit all three of his extra-point kicks during Thursday's 24-3 win over New England.
Analysis: The second-year kicker was listed as questionable for Thursday's game with a shoulder injury, so it was encouraging to see him suit up and hit all four of his kicks in the convincing win. Gay's fantasy numbers probably could have been better if head coach Sean McVay opted to be more aggressive offensively instead of milking the clock. Expect Gay to remain a serviceable asset in most fantasy settings, and especially with upcoming matchups against the Jets and Seahawks.

Suiting up Thursday
Gay (shoulder) is listed as active Thursday against the Patriots, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gay made a sudden appearance on Wednesday's injury report as a limited participant and questionable for this Week 14 contest. The Rams even called up an insurance policy in Austin MacGinnis earlier Thursday. After making a number of kicks during pregame warmups, though, Gay has been cleared to suit up. During his three-game stint in L.A., he's nailed five of seven field-goal attempts and all 10 point-after tries.

Uncertain for Thursday
Gay (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game versus the Patriots, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gay avoided the injury report Monday and Tuesday before he was listed as a limited participant at Wednesday's practice. The downgrade was enough to place a cloud over his availability for Week 14. If the Rams end up elevating Austin MacGinnis from the practice squad Thursday, it could signal that Gay won't be available for the contest.

Another solid fantasy day
Gay connected on one of his two field-goal attempts and hit all five extra-point kicks during Sunday's 38-28 win over Arizona.
Analysis: Fantasy managers would have liked to have seen Gay hit his 37-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter, but five extra points padded his stat line. While the sophomore has already missed two field goals through three games, his fantasy numbers have been serviceable. Gay projects to remain a middling option in most settings.

Perfect in loss
Gay went 2-for-2 in field-goal attempts and connected on both his extra-point kicks during Sunday's 23-20 loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Gay's two field goals were from 48 and 41 yards, and he's now made four of his five attempts since joining the Rams last week. Look for the second-year kicker to continue providing serviceable fantasy numbers moving forward, and next week's matchup against Arizona should prove to be a high-scoring bout and an especially favorable spot.

Tops former team
Gay connected on two of his three field-goal attempts and all three extra-point kicks during Monday's 27-24 win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: This was Gay's debut with Los Angeles after spending his rookie season with Tampa Bay in 2019, and while he did miss a 44-yard field goal in the third quarter, he rebounded with the game-winning kick from 40 yards with 2:40 remaining. Fantasy managers will want to ensure Gay retains his role for a Week 12 matchup against San Francisco before locking him into lineups. The sophomore does offer some upside.

Handling kicking duties Monday
Gay will serve as the Rams' kicker Monday at Tampa Bay, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Gay is making his season debut and will be the third kicker used by the Rams on the campaign. He joined L.A. last week in the wake of Kai Forbath (ankle) landing on injured reserve, but the question remained whether the team would elevate Austin MacGinnis from the practice squad instead. It has opted not to, leaving Gay to handle kicking duties in Week 12. Last season, Gay hit 27 of 35 field-goal attempts and 43 of 48 point-after tries as a member of the Bucs.

Gay was activated from the commissioner's exempt list Saturday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The 26-year-old signed with Los Angeles earlier in the week, but he's now officially on the active roster. Gay is poised to handle kicking duties for the Rams, though Austin MacGinnis could still be elevated from the practice squad ahead of Monday's game at Tampa Bay.

Lands deal in L.A.
The Rams signed Gay on Tuesday, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: After cutting bait with long-time kicker Greg Zuerlein in the offseason, the Rams have cycled through a number of kickers, including Samuel Sloman and Kai Forbath. Forbath was the casualty of an ankle injury this past Sunday versus the Seahawks and was placed on IR, with the corresponding move the signing of Gay. As a member of the Buccaneers last season, Gay made 27 of 35 field-goal attempts and 43 of 48 point-after tries across 16 games.

Will compete for Rams' job
Gay is expected to be brought to Los Angeles to compete with Austin MacGinnis for the Rams' kicking job, J.B. Long of the Los Angeles Rams Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Gay will have to clear COVID-19 protocol before he can participate. and coach Sean McVay expects that to commence by Saturday. Starting kicker Kai Forbath injured his ankle in the Rams' Week 10 over the Seahawks. The fact that Los Angeles is already looking at two potential kickers going forward indicates that Forbath could miss some time. As a result, Gay will look to make an impression once he joins the team.

Signs with Colts' practice squad
Gay signed with the Colts' practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Gay spent the 2019 season with the Buccaneers and hit 77 percent of his field goals, but he lost the job to Ryan Succop to begin the season. This looks to be the start of a kicker competition in Indianapolis, as rookie Rodrigo Blankenship missed a 30-yard field goal in Week 1.

Gay had a tryout with the Colts on Monday, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

New competition on way
Gay, who made 35- and 46-yard field goals during the Buccaneers' scrimmage at Raymond James Stadium on Friday, is nevertheless expected to get new competition this week in the form of veterans Ryan Succop and Cody Parkey, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis: If the second-year kicker ultimately wins the job coming out of camp, he'll certainly have earned it, as it appears Gay will have to fend off three players overall for a roster spot. Coach Bruce Arians emphasized Sunday that he's "looking for consistency on the gimmes," citing a zero-tolerance policy for any missed extra points or field-goal tries from inside the 30-yard line. Gay notably struggled on several occasions during his rookie campaign with kicks in that range, and Scott Smith of the…read more

Remains locked in tight battle
Gay remains in a heated competition with Elliott Fry for the placekicker job, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. "I think the competition is close -- I think it's real close," said Special Teams Coordinator Keith Armstrong. "I think with Matt, the thing I learned is he's got to learn to be consistent. That's what we're looking for and that's hard to do. That's what wins and he's got to learn to be consistent."
Analysis: Armstrong's focus on the theme isn't coincidental, as Gay managed to prompt just enough doubt in the minds of the coaching staff during his rookie season by sometimes making what should have been easier kicks more difficult. Gay either missed or had five of his last eight field-goal attempts of the season blocked, and two of his seven misses overall on the campaign came from the very manageable distance of 34 yards. Gay was also just 43-for-48 on extra-point tries, so he's focusing on treating…read more

Perfect in practice Tuesday
Gay, who is battling Elliott Fry for the placekicking job, was perfect on all of his attempts in Tuesday's practice, Carmen Vitali of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The Buccaneers opted to bring in some competition for their second-year kicker after his rough finish to the 2019 campaign, one which saw five of his last eight field-goal attempts either miss their mark or get blocked. Gay had put together an impressive rookie campaign prior to that late-season downturn, however, so he should still have a leg up on Fry, who's yet to kick in an NFL regular-season game. Disastrous finish to season
Gay missed all three of his field-goal attempts (49, 44 and 34 yards) and made both of his extra-point tries in the Buccaneers 28-22 overtime loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He finished the 2019 season with a 77.1 percent success rate on field goals (27-for-35) and a 43-for-48 tally on extra points.
Analysis: Gay's final numbers were sullied by his clunker of a regular-season finale, but the rookie was otherwise very impressive during his first pro season. Gay's misfires were spread evenly across distance, as he missed two attempts from 30 to 39 yards, another three from 40 to 49 yards, and three more from 50 yards and beyond. Analysis: Gay was banged up on a field-goal attempt that was blocked in the team's Week 16 loss to the Texans. However, he remained in the game and later made a 50-yard field goal, giving some indication that the injury was minor. That he was projected to be a limited participant Wednesday is a positive sign for his availability in the team's Week 17 matchup against the Falcons.

Eventful day in Week 16 loss
Gay converted field-goal attempts of 50 and 41 yards, had a 54-yard attempt blocked, and converted two extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 23-20 loss to the Texans on Saturday.
Analysis: Gay was banged up on the first-quarter block, but his ability to drill a 50-yarder later in the period corroborated his health. The rookie heads into the regular-season finale against the Falcons with a solid 84.4 percent success rate on 32 field-goal attempts and 122 points overall, making him one of the best fantasy assets at the position on the season.

Cleared for Week 16
Gay (groin) was a full participant in Thursday's practice and won't carry a designation into Saturday's game against the Texans, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: Gay was limited for the Buccaneers' first two practices of Week 16 while battling a right groin injury. Since Tampa Bay didn't work out any other kickers, there was never much concern about the rookie's status, and his ability to put in a full workout to close the week supports that notion.

Gay (groin) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: The Buccaneers have yet to work out or sign another kicker, so they appear confident Gay will be ready in time for Saturday's matchup against the Texans. Gay has been quite effective this year, connecting on 25 of 29 field goals (86 percent), including 14 of 17 tries from beyond 40 yards.

Gay was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice due to a right groin injury, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
Analysis: Gay racked up eight points on a field goal and five extra points in the Buccaneers' 38-17 win over the Lions over the weekend, but a misfire from 54 yards out ended a streak of 15 converted kicks in a row. Six successful kicks in win
Gay drilled a 46-yard field goal and clanked a 54-yard attempt off the left upright while also making all five of his extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 38-17 win over the Lions on Sunday.
Analysis: It was another busy day for Gay, as the Buccaneers racked up their second consecutive 38-point tally. Gay did see a streak of 15 straight successful kicks come to an end with the long misfire, but he continues to profile as an elite asset heading into fantasy title games in Week 16, with the possibility of an uptick in field-goal opportunities if Tampa is missing both Mike Evans and Chris Godwin due to hamstring injuries.

Extends kicking streak in win
Gay drilled his only field-goal attempt from 44 yards and made all five of his extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 38-35 win over the Colts on Sunday.
Analysis: The rookie has now drilled all 10 kick attempts (three field goals, seven extra points) over his last two games. Gay continues to serve as an elite fantasy asset due to his connection to the Buccaneers' prolific offense, and he'll be set up for potential success once again in a Week 15 matchup versus the vulnerable Lions defense.

Perfect on four kicks
Gay drilled field-goal attempts of 25 and 37 yards and made both extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 28-11 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
Analysis: Gay bounced back from having missed three extra-point attempts versus the Falcons in a Week 12 win, putting together his third perfect performance over the last four games. A couple of typical rookie hiccups aside, Gay has converted an impressive 88.5 percent of 26 field-goal attempts on the campaign, including four of five tries from 50 yards or longer. Scuffles on extra points in win
Gay drilled his only field-goal attempt from 32 yards but made only two of five extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 35-22 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: Gay unexpectedly found extra-point tries to be a significant challenge Sunday, missing more attempts (three) than he had all season (two). The rookie did up his field-goal accuracy to 87.5 percent with his 1-for-1 showing in that department Sunday, and despite the unexpected hiccups, he remains a highly appealing fantasy option in Week 13 versus the Jaguars.

Impresses with few opportunities
Gay drilled his only field-goal attempt from 55 yards and also was good on both of his extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 34-17 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Analysis: The rookie got another opportunity to show off the booming leg that caught the team's eye coming out of college, with Gay drilling his third kick of more than 50 yards in four tries this season. The Buccaneers' offense typically provides Gay with more scoring chances than he saw Sunday, but even in a game where he sees a downturn in opportunity, he can still reward fantasy managers. Gay will hope to square up on multiple field-goal attempts in a Week 12 matchup against the Falcons.

Perfect, with an asterisk
Gay drilled field-goal attempts of 30, 45 and 41 yards and all three of his extra-point tries in the Buccaneers' 30-27 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
Analysis: Gay would have been 2-for-3 if not for the Cardinals being called offsides on his 46-yard misfire wide left early in the fourth quarter. Gay attempted the kick again five yards closer and drilled it to snap 20-20 tie at the time. Hits six of seven kicks in loss

Analysis: The rookie's one miss came at the end of the first half and served as his first from 50 yards and greater this season. Gay has been an excellent source of fantasy production overall, as the combination of Bruce Arians' aggressive offensive scheme and Jameis Winston's tendency to stall drives on occasion have led to an abundance of kicking opportunities.
