Pre-Season Outlook
Things weren't always easy for Barkley with the Giants, so the hope is that joining a more functional Eagles offense will unleash a new level of explosiveness for Barkley. Even after the retirement of center Jason Kelce the Eagles should boast an offensive line better than any Barkley had in his six years with the Giants, so Barkley is a good bet to easily outproduce his 3.9 yards per carry figure from 2023. He's also a good bet to match or exceed the per-game usage of prior Eagles starting running back D'Andre Swift, who finished 2023 with 229 carries and 49 targets in 16 contests. That's particularly true given how much the Eagles are paying Barkley - his three-year, $37.75 million deal ranks fourth among NFL running backs in annual pay, and a team as cap-wise as the Eagles probably wouldn't pay that price unless they intended to give Barkley all the work he can handle. Despite the injury troubles Barkley had dealt with at some past points, he's still just 27 and should be ready for a workhorse role in what should be an above average NFL offense.

Barkley and the Eagles have reached agreement on a three-year, $37.75 million contract that could be worth up to $46.75 million and includes $26 million fully guaranteed at signing, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Coach Pat Shurmur said Monday that Barkley is feeling much better after the running back was banged up in the aftermath of Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Jets.

Banged up in loss to Jets
Barkley rushed 13 times for one yard and caught all five of his targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: You read that right. Barkley mustered just one yard on the ground. He looked like a shell of himself throughout the game, and it was revealed postgame that he's going in for an X-ray. When pressed on the topic, coach Pat Shurmur wouldn't elaborate besides saying that Barkley got banged-up. With the Giants now 2-8, it wouldn't be surprising to see Barkley miss time rather than continue trying to play at less than 100 percent.
