Downplays foot bruise

Mahomes relayed Wednesday that he suffered a bruised foot on his final snap of Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Bengals, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.

The superstar QB will look to bounce back in Week 14 against a stingy Broncos defense that held Mahomes to 454 yards across two meetings in 2021.

Another 300-yard performance

Analysis: Kansas City wasn't able to pull away until the second half, but Mahomes still reeled off his sixth straight game with over 300 passing yards and once again hit Travis Kelce for another TD. Mahomes has already topped 3,500 passing yards on the season as he takes aim at Peyton Manning's NFL record of 5,477, and he could need to produce more fireworks in Week 13 in a showdown with Joe Burrow and the Bengals.

Analysis: Mahomes started slowly, as he had only 98 yards and a touchdown across the first two quarters of the game. However, he led the Chiefs' comeback effort by connecting with Travis Kelce on each of his four touchdowns and also delivered long passes of 36 and 28 yards to Mecole Hardman. It was another impressive performance for Mahomes, who now has at least three touchdowns in three of five games this season.

Makes light work of top defense

Analysis: Mahomes picked apart the Raiders defense in the first half, putting up 176 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Chiefs were up 35-3 at halftime, so Mahomes took to the air only nine times in the final two quarters. As a result, his stat line doesn't look as robust as it otherwise could have. Even so it, was a reassuring performance, as Mahomes averaged over 10 yards per attempt for the first time since Week 2. Next up, he and the Chiefs will draw a matchup Thursday against the Chargers.

Analysis: Per ESPN.com, Mahomes' extension is reportedly worth $450 million, while the injury guarantee in his deal is $140 million. Analysis: The initial report doesn't provide details beyond the length, but there's no doubt it will be the largest contract in NFL history for both total value and guaranteed money. Mahomes is entering his fourth pro season and will turn 25 in September.

Fifth-year option extended

Mahomes had his fifth-year option extended Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis: There might not be a more obvious fifth-year extension in the history of the NFL than this one, with the unsurprising move keeping the Super Bowl MVP under contract with the Chiefs through the 2021 campaign. It seems entirely likely a historic multi-year contract is on the horizon, as GM Clark Hunt previously hinted that the team would focus on agreeing to a long-term extension with its star quarterback following the 2020 NFL Draft.

Extension imminent?

Chiefs general manager Clark Hunt suggested a possible extension for Mahomes could come following the 2020 NFL Draft, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Analysis: It's not particularly surprising the Chiefs want to lock up a long-term extension with their Super Bowl MVP and transcendent quarterback, but it should be telling Hunt is even mentioning a certain time frame. While making Mahomes' extension "a priority" after the draft seems reasonable, a likely lofty sticker price could slow the negotiations somewhat. The 24-year-old is not expected to hold out in any way regardless of what type of conversations occur throughout the rest of the offseason.

No offseason procedure expected

Coach Andy Reid relayed Tuesday that he doesn't believe Mahomes will require offseason surgery after dislocating his kneecap this past October, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. "Right now he looks good," Reid said of the QB, who capped his 2019 season by earning Super Bowl LIV MVP honors. Analysis: Though Mahomes is progressing much faster than anticipated from his dislocated right kneecap, returning from the injury was always going to be a tough ask. With Mahomes in line to be included among the Chiefs' seven inactives Sunday, Matt Moore will garner another start. Downgrade Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and the rest of the Chiefs' skill players accordingly.

Could play in Week 9

Analysis: This appears to counter an earlier report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network which suggested the star quarterback was unlikely to play Sunday, although both sources emphasized Mahomes' status will depend on how well he's able to move prior to the 1 p.m. EST kickoff. Matt Moore and newly activated Chad Henne (ankle) will be available in the event that Mahomes, who dislocated his right knee cap Oct. 17, is eventually ruled out.

Analysis: Mahomes is expected to work out on the field prior to the game, but it seems unlikely the electric third-year quarterback will play Sunday, reinforced by the fact the Chiefs activated Chad Henne (ankle) from injured reserve with the intent to back up Matt Moore. While the initial timeline following Mahomes' injury waffled anywhere from two-to-five weeks of absence, it certainly appears as if the 2018 MVP is not expected to be out for a lengthy amount of time given Saturday's news.
