Analysis: Although Hurts hasn't officially been named the Eagles' starting quarterback, selecting a receiver rather than another signal-caller seemingly cements him in the role even further. It also gives the 22-year-old another first-round weapon to throw to after Philadelphia took Jalen Reagor out of TCU last year. It's certainly a major upgrade for a receiving corps that compiled the third-fewest receiving yards last season (2,082).

Yet to be named starter

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman were both noncommittal on Hurts entering 2021 as the team's starting quarterback, CBS 3 Philadelphia reports. Analysis: Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News has a different take, hinting that the Eagles still aren't sure about their second-year signal-caller. While Hurts sits atop the depth chart with Carson Wentz (Colts) out of the picture, Bowen and other Philadelphia beat writers have suggested the Eagles could pick a QB on Day 1 or 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft. This latest report from Mortensen doesn't seem concrete, but it at least does give us a hint about Lurie's thinking with the No. 6 overall pick.

Left atop depth chart

Hurts is the Eagles' top QB after they traded Carson Wentz to Indianapolis, though the team could still draft another signal-caller, according to Les Bowen of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Analysis: Already owners of the sixth overall pick, the Eagles added a 2021 third-rounder and a conditional 2022 second-round pick in the Wentz trade. What they do next depends on their confidence in Hurts, who had eight total touchdowns -- but also three INTs and six fumbles -- over the final four weeks of 2020.
