Analysis: The 23-year-old got the start at quarterback for the Packers and played into the second half, and while Love's numbers weren't great he did did engineer two scoring drives, leading to all 10 of Green Bay's points on the night. The 2020 first-round pick will back up Aaron Rodgers once again this season, a role which afforded him only one start and 62 total pass attempts last year.

Inconsistent preseason performance

Love completed 12 of 24 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown in Friday's 20-10 preseason win over the Saints. He also added 13 rushing yards.

Analysis: Love got the start with Aaron Rodgers resting. He showed glimpses of promise, particularly on a 14-play drive that resulted in a touchdown. During that possession, Love connected with four different receivers and pushed the ball down the field for gains of 17 and 15 yards. On the other hand, he completed only 50.0 percent of his passes, though a few of the misfires were drops. Once the regular season rolls around, Love will naturally be locked into the backup role behind Aaron Rodgers.

Analysis: An illness caused Love to miss practice earlier in the week, but he's seemingly healthy now. While that's certainly good news for him, he's still quite unlikely to play a role Monday against Atlanta, as he's behind both Aaron Rodgers and Tim Boyle on the depth chart.

Analysis: Love will not have any chance to make his NFL debut in Week 1, which comes as little surprise given he heads into the season behind both Aaron Rodgers and Tim Boyle on the Packers' depth chart.

Opens as third-string QB

Love is listed as the third-string quarterback on the unofficial depth chart released by the Packers on Monday night.

Analysis: The Packers surely would have loved -- no pun intended -- their rookie QB to secure the backup spot behind Aaron Rodgers, but Tim Boyle simply played better during training camp, so he will open the season as the team's No. 2 quarterback. Love was drafted with an eye on the future, and team brass is no doubt still banking on him showing enough improvement in the coming months and years to become a starting quarterback down the road.

Logs best practice yet

Coach Matt LaFleur said Sunday that Love had "his best day up to this point, just making some key throws downfield," Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

Analysis: "I think he's consistently getting better," LaFleur said. The coach's comments come just days after a report by Matt Schneidman of the Athletic that Love had "yet to even provide a glimpse at why the Packers traded up to draft him in the first round."
