Pops long touchdown
Gibbs rushed the ball 11 times for 127 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 52-14 win over the Titans. He added one reception on one target for six yards.
Analysis: The Lions had limited volume offensively as their defense and special teams set them up with short fields throughout the day. That led to muted efforts from most of the team's skill-position players, though Gibbs managed to break free for a 70-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter when he burst through the line and raced down the sideline while barely being touched. He has now topped 100 rushing yards in consecutive games and has accumulated over 100 total yards in four of seven contests.

Standout all-around effort in win
Gibbs rushed 15 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns and brought in all four targets for 44 yards in the Lions' 31-29 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: Gibbs led the Lions' ground game across the board and also finished as the second-leading pass catcher in both receptions and receiving yards. The versatile second-year pro recorded his second multi-touchdown effort in three games as well with 45- and eight-yard scoring runs in the second quarter, and his rushing yardage total was a new season high. Gibbs' workload was aided by the fact backfield mate David Montgomery missed some time in the first half due to a knee injury, but the Alabama…read more

Overshadowed by Montgomery
Gibbs rushed the ball 12 times for 63 yards in Sunday's 47-9 win over the Cowboys. He added three receptions on five targets for 28 yards.
Analysis: Gibbs worked evenly with David Montgomery on the ground and was much better as a pass catcher, though Montgomery's fantasy performance was superior thanks to a pair of scores. Even so, Gibbs turned in a fine performance that was highlighted by a 20-yard reception and five rush attempts that went for at least five yards. He now has a minium of 78 total yards from scrimmage in all five games this season, though he has ceded a lot of work at the goal line to Montgomery.

Two rushing TDs in win
Gibbs rushed 14 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns and wasn't targeted in the Lions' 42-29 win over the Seahawks on Monday night.
Analysis: Although the lack of work in the passing game was less than ideal, Gibbs' fantasy managers had to be elated with seeing the talented back get two opportunities from inside the five-yard line that culminated in touchdowns, considering how often he's frequently passed over for David Montgomery in such scenarios. Gibbs went in from three yards and one yard out in the second quarter, his first trips to the end zone on the ground since Week 1. He's yet to crack the 100-yard threshold this season,…read more

Tops 100 scrimmage yards with TD
Gibbs rushed 16 times for 83 yards and added a 20-yard receiving touchdown in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Cardinals.
Analysis: Gibbs motored into the end zone from 20 yards out after taking a lateral from Amon-Ra St. Brown to give Detroit a 20-7 lead late in the first half. That yardage counted toward Gibbs' receiving total, but he wasn't credited with a target or catch on the play and didn't see a target for the rest of the game, leading to an unconventional stat line with a receiving touchdown but no targets. Gibbs has surpassed 100 scrimmage yards in consecutive games heading into a Week 4 MNF home game against the…read more

Gets 20 touches in Week 2 loss
Gibbs rushed 13 times for 84 yards and caught all seven of his targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Gibbs kept Detroit's hopes alive with a 23-yard run to convert on 4th-and-1 with 1:23 remaining, but he was tackled short of the line to gain on a fourth-down catch 30 seconds later. Gibbs out-gained David Montgomery by 49 yards on the ground and also got seven of the 12 targets among Lions running backs (four for Montgomery, one for Sione Vaki), but Montgomery got the opportunity to punch in a one-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter and capitalized on it. Scores TD in Week 1 win
Gibbs rushed 11 times for 40 yards and a touchdown while catching four of six targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 26-20 overtime win over the Rams.
Analysis: Gibbs was outproduced on the ground by David Montgomery (17 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown), but the second-year running back got a couple goal-line carries late in the first half and made the most of the opportunity, punching in a one-yard touchdown at the two-minute warning. It was Gibbs' 11th rushing touchdown in 16 career regular-season games. Gibbs also tied for second on the team in targets, so he was involved both on the ground and through the air as usual. Avoids injury report
Gibbs (hamstring) wasn't listed on the Lions' injury report Wednesday.
Analysis: Although the Lions didn't hold a session Wednesday, Gibbs wouldn't have been inhibited in his on-field work if the team had done so. As a result, he's good to go for Sunday's contest against the Rams after sustaining a hamstring injury in an Aug. 12 practice. Gibbs again will split Detroit's backfield with David Montgomery in 2024, which amounted to 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns on 232 touches in 15 games in 2023.

Feels nearly 100 percent
Gibbs (hamstring) said Tuesday he feels almost 100 percent healthy ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Rams, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Gibbs isn't a player whose status concerns him for Week 1, so it sounds like the star running back is fully expected to be available Sunday. In the event that Gibbs feels anything less than 100 percent healthy by the end of the practice week, though, there will be a possibility that the Lions lean a bit more heavily on David Montgomery versus Los Angeles. Gibbs said he feels "more confident overall" heading into Year 2, and even at less than full health he…read more

No concerns for Week 1
Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Gibbs (hamstring) is not a player whose injury status is a concern for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Rams, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Campbell named Ifeatu Melifonwu (undisclosed) as the only player the Lions are significantly concerned about for Week 1, meaning both Gibbs and standout TE Sam LaPorta (hamstring) should be good for the season opener. Both Gibbs and LaPorta resumed practicing last week after missing much of training camp due to hamstring injuries. While it doesn't sound like Gibbs is in any real danger of missing Week 1, it's still possible that Detroit could opt to lean on backfield mate David Montgomery a bit…read more

Returns to practice
Gibbs (hamstring) returned to practice Sunday, Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Gibbs made it back on the day Dan Campbell had predicted, but the coach didn't provide any details about the extent of his running back's participation. Gibbs missed two weeks of practice with a hamstring strain and now has less than two weeks to get ready for Detroit's season opener against the Rams on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Could resume practicing Sunday
Lions coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday that Gibbs (hamstring) is "trending the right way" and may resume practicing as soon as Sunday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Campbell mentioned Sunday, the day after Detroit's preseason finale against Pittsburgh, as the possible return date for a bunch of his injured players. It presumably won't be a strenuous practice just one day after an exhibition, but Gibbs' fantasy managers would nonetheless be thrilled to see him back on the field in any capacity. The young RB left practice early last Monday with a hamstring injury and has now been out for more than a week.

Limited concern from coach Campbell
Lions head coach Dan Campbell suggested Wednesday that he's optimistic about Gibbs' health after the running back suffered a hamstring injury in Monday's practice, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports. "I think we're gonna be fine here," Campbell told 97-1 The Ticket Detroit. "So, I think we'll be good."
Analysis: Campbell didn't get into details or provide a timeline for Gibbs, merely hinting at general optimism. Gibbs suffered the injury 27 days before Detroit's season opener Sept. 8 at the Rams, and while he's unlikely to practice for at least the next week or two, he seemingly has a chance to be ready for the rematch of last year's wild-card playoff game.

Injures hamstring
Gibbs left Monday's practice early due to a hamstring injury, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hamstring injuries can be tricky to gauge, so it remains to be seen how serious the issue is for Gibbs. When healthy, he is expected to play a predominant role in Detroit's offense. Expect the Lions to err on the side of caution with their prized backfield asset in order to ensure his long-term health.

Exits practice early
Gibb's left Monday's practice early to be evaluated for a leg injury, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: There is no word on the severity of Gibbs' injury or if the Lions are just erring on the side of caution with the 2023 first-round pick. When healthy, the electric back is expected to share the backfield with David Montgomery. Gibbs also figures to be available all over the formation in passing situations. It remains to be seen if he will miss any more practice time going forward.

Not in line to suit up Thursday
Gibbs isn't suited up ahead of Thursday's preseason game at the Giants, Justin Rogers of DetroitFootball.net reports.
Analysis: Both Gibbs and David Montgomery will be in street clothes for the Lions' exhibition opener, which will leave Craig Reynolds, Sione Vaki, Zonovan Knight, Jermar Jefferson and Jake Funk to work out of the backfield. Gibbs has been working all over the formation during training camp to date, potentially setting him up to easily surpass the 234 touches for 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 total touchdowns that he compiled in 15 regular-season contests as a rookie in 2023.

Working at multiple positions
Gibbs (undisclosed) is practicing at training camp and took part in wide receiver position drills Thursday, Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Gibbs missed some time during spring practices due to a soft tissue injury, but he isn't showing any signs of being hampered at training camp. Route running appears to be a priority area of improvement for Gibbs this offseason, as after taking part in receiver drills he stayed on the field for extra work alongside All-Pro teammate Amon-Ra St. Brown. Sidelined by minor injury
Gibbs has missed spring practices due to a soft tissue injury, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Lions expect Gibbs to be ready for the start of training camp in late July, though coach Dan Campbell noted that the running back's absence this spring is a missed opportunity for growth. Gibbs nonetheless figures to be a huge part of Detroit's offense this season, with the big question being whether he'll take away some of the work that went to backfield mate David Montgomery last year.

To see more touches in 2024
Appearing on The Rich Eisen Show on Monday, Lions GM Brad Holmes said he "definitely would expect" Gibbs to "see more of the load" out of the backfield in 2024.
Analysis: Holmes added that he thinks Gibbs will also be even more involved in the passing game in his second season. Only seven running backs saw more targets than Gibbs' 71 in 2023, and his 52 catches were tied for the ninth-most at the position. Backfield mate David Montgomery out-carried Gibbs, 219-182, but Gibbs had a commanding edge in the pass game with 47 more targets than the veteran. There's reason to believe Gibbs' touches will rise in 2024, but Montgomery isn't going away. This backfield will…read more

Key fumble in loss
Gibbs rushed the ball 12 times for 45 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-31 loss to the 49ers. He added two receptions (on four targets) for 11 yards.
Analysis: Gibbs began the game well, picking up 35 yards from scrimmage on the team's first four possessions. He had a highlight reel 15-yard touchdown run on the final drive in that span, juking several defenders and breaking through a couple tackles in the process. Things took a turn for the worse midway through the third quarter, however, as Gibbs lost a fumble that led directly to a game-tying touchdown for San Francisco. Finds end zone against Bucs
Gibbs carried the ball nine times for 74 yards and a touchdown and caught all four of his targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 31-23 divisional-round win over the Buccaneers.
Analysis: The rookie running back topped 100 scrimmage yards in his second career playoff game and got into the end zone for the third straight contest, putting the Lions in the lead for good with a 31-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter. Gibbs posted his best rushing yardage total since Week 16 in Sunday's win, and he figures to be busy again next weekend in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.

Goes for 68 yards plus score
Gibbs rushed eight times for 25 yards and a touchdown while corralling all four of his targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 24-23 playoff win over the Rams.
Analysis: Gibbs was an integral part of building Detroit's early 14-3 lead when he scored his club's second rushing touchdown of the first quarter in Sunday's NFC wild-card victory. Starter David Montgomery (14-57-1) hit pay dirt on the Lions' first possession, then Gibbs followed with a10-yard scamper up the middle on the ensuing offensive drive. Rushing TD in season-ending win
Gibbs rushed 13 times for 30 yards and a touchdown and failed to bring in his only target in the Lions' 30-20 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: The rookie had a quiet finish to his first regular season except for a three-yard scoring run in the first quarter. Gibbs' touches were limited more than usual with the postseason on the horizon, and the Alabama product is expected to play a big role in the playoffs after a regular season that saw him compile 945 rushing yards, 316 receiving yards and 10 total touchdowns in 15 games.

Gibbs rushed 15 times for 43 yards and brought in one of three targets for no gain in the Lions' 20-19 loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night.
Analysis: The electric rookie couldn't quite get loose for any significant gains Saturday night, with his longest run going for just 17 yards and Gibbs averaging just 1.9 yards per carry on his other 14 totes. Gibbs rushed 15 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns while catching four of seven targets for 20 yards during Sunday's 30-24 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: Christmas again came early for Gibbs' fantasy investors, with the rookie posting at least 100 total yards and two total touchdowns in consecutive games to open the fantasy playoffs. He didn't even need a full workload to accomplish the feat, as David Montgomery handled the first seven rushing attempts of the game and 17 carries in total. Big performance in blowout win
Gibbs rushed the ball 11 times for 100 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 42-17 win over the Broncos. He added two receptions on two targets for eight yards and another score.
Analysis: Gibbs was out-touched by David Montgomery, but he was the far more efficient back. Seven of his 11 rushing attempts went for more than five yards, with his longest going for 34. He also found the end zone twice, first on a nine-yard reception midway through the second quarter and then on a rush from 12 yards away early in the final quarter. Gibbs rushed the ball 11 times for 66 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Bears. He added three receptions on four targets for 16 yards.
Analysis: Gibbs split work out of the backfield nearly evenly with David Montgomery, and the duo had nearly identical stat lines. Gibbs ultimately had the more productive day thanks to a 12-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, his sixth trip to the end zone in his last seven games. Nine touches in Week 13 win
Gibbs rushed eight times for 60 yards and brought in one of two targets for minus-6 yards in the Lions' 33-28 win over the Saints on Sunday.
Analysis: The explosive rookie back looked like he might be on his way to a big day early with a 36-yard run on his first touch, but that would turn out to be the highlight of his afternoon. Backfield mate David Montgomery outpaced Gibbs by 10 rush attempts, although the latter did gain four more rushing yards. Gibbs hasn't topped 11 carries in any of his last three games, although a Week 14 road matchup in Chicago could prove to be a more conducive to the ground attack for the entirety of the contest.

Gibbs rushed 11 times for 54 yards while securing four of eight targets for 19 yards during Thursday's 29-22 loss to Green Bay.
Analysis: After seeing two more carries than David Montgomery did in the first game after Detroit's Week 9 bye, Gibbs has trailed his counterpart by four carries in each of the past two weeks. Extends TD streak to four games
Gibbs rushed eight times for 36 yards and a touchdown while catching all six of his targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 31-26 win over the Bears.
Analysis: Gibbs got the Lions on the board in the second quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown. That was the fifth rushing touchdown in the last four games for the 2023 first-round pick after Gibbs opened his career with a four-game touchdown drought. Gibbs will look to extend his touchdown streak to five games on Thanksgiving against the Packers as part of Detroit's one-two punch in the backfield alongside David Montgomery.

Scores two TDs in Week 10 win
Gibbs carried the ball 14 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns and caught three of five targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 41-38 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: While David Montgomery returned from a rib injury Sunday and led the Lions with 116 rushing yards and a score of his own, Gibbs wound up seeing five more touches while nearly matching his total yards. The rookie also produced more points, scoring on a pair of one-yard TD plunges in the first and second quarters. May cut into Montgomery's lead role
Lions head coach Dan Campbell indicated Monday that Gibbs could see an uptick in his work in the team's backfield rotation during the second half of the season, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "I don't think necessarily, talking to you right now, that I see Gibbs getting 65 plays. I don't see that," Campbell said. "But he's going to get his fair share now. We know what we can be and he's growing, so I think it'll be a little bit by committee and make sure we get those guys touches. Gibbs'll get his touches."
Analysis: After missing two straight games with a hamstring injury, Gibbs returned to action Week 7 and took hold of a lead role in the absence of David Montgomery (rib). In a loss to the Ravens in Week 7 and a win over the Raiders in Week 8, Gibbs played 86 and 69 percent of the Lions' snaps on offense, respectively, compiling 220 yards and two touchdowns (on 37 carries) and 14 receptions for 95 yards (on 15 targets) between the two contests. Analysis: It was milestone night for Gibbs, who set a new career high in rushing yards while also recording his first home touchdown via a 27-yard run late in the third quarter. That scoring scamper served as Gibbs' longest run of the night, underscoring how consistently efficient he was throughout the contest. Analysis: Gibbs got a chance to lead the Detroit backfield with David Montgomery (ribs) sidelined, and he delivered 126 total yards. He found room to run difficult for most of the game, though that changed early in the fourth quarter -- with the outcome decided -- when he scored his first career touchdown from 21 yards away. Gibbs (hamstring) is practicing Thursday, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gibbs and Craig Reynolds (hamstring) both are practicing, while David Montgomery (ribs) is absent for a second straight day. Gibbs dominated backfield work the last time Montgomery missed a game, though the rookie might not get as much work if he returns for Sunday's matchup in Baltimore after missing the last two weeks.

Limited Wednesday
Gibbs (hamstring) was a limited participant at Wednesday's walk-through practice.
Analysis: After sitting out the last two games due to a hamstring issue, Gibbs has a glimmer of hope to return Week 7. First and foremost, there's an expectation that the team's top running back David Montgomery will miss time due to a rib cartilage issue that he sustained this past Sunday at Tampa Bay. Additionally, head coach Dan Campbell told Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site on Monday that Gibbs was trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's contest at Baltimore. Trending in right direction
Coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Gibbs (hamstring) is trending toward playing Sunday against the Ravens, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Gibbs has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury that he sustained in practice ahead of Week 5. With David Montgomery (ribs) now appearing as if he'll sit out at least one game, the Lions might need to lean even more on Gibbs, though Craig Reynolds and Devine Ozigbo also remain in the backfield mix for Detroit.

Ruled out for Week 6
Gibbs (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Gibbs hurt his hamstring at the end of last Friday's practice and now will miss a second straight game. His failure to practice this week suggests he's also at risk of missing Week 7 in Baltimore, though the Lions haven't commented on expectations beyond this Sunday. They're left with Craig Reynolds behind lead back David Montgomery, while Zonovan Knight (shoulder) is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Missing another practice
Gibbs (hamstring) isn't practicing Friday, Colton Pouncy of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Another absence suggest Gibbs is unlikely to play Sunday in Tampa Bay, especially after he told reporters earlier this week that Friday would be crucial to determining his availability. Craig Reynolds will be next up behind David Montgomery in the event of another Gibbs absence, and there isn't much competition after fellow reserve Zonovan Knight suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last week. Montgomery has topped 70 percent snap in three of his four appearances this year, including 75…read more

No practice again Thursday
Gibbs (hamstring) officially didn't practice Thursday.
Analysis: Gibbs hasn't practiced since he showed up on last Friday's injury report as a limited participant and doubtful to play Week 5 against the Panthers. He subsequently sat out this past Sunday's game, and he told Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on Wednesday that he won't have an idea of his potential to return until after Friday's session. As a result, Gibbs' status will be of keen interest when the Lions post their final Week 6 practice report. If Gibbs is limited or out this weekend, Craig…read more

Week 6 availability up in air
Gibbs (hamstring) said that he probably won't know until Friday if he'll be healthy enough to play Sunday at Tampa Bay, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Gibbs strained his hamstring in practice last Friday and ended up missing Detroit's blowout win over the Panthers on Sunday. He was then held out of practice Wednesday, though he seems hopeful to get back on the field in at least a limited capacity by the end of the week. If Gibbs doesn't end up playing this weekend, the Lions will have Craig Reynolds and possibly Zonovan Knight (shoulder) as depth options behind lead runner David Montgomery. Lions running backs coach Scottie Montgomery said…read more

Not at practice
Gibbs (hamstring) isn't practicing Wednesday, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Gibbs' absence to begin Week 6 prep isn't a major surprise after he was added to the injury report last Friday, downgraded from "questionable" to "doubtful" Saturday and then made inactive ahead of this past Sunday's win over Carolina. Unless he can fit in some on-field activity Thursday or Friday, he'll be in danger of sitting out another game when the Lions travel to Tampa this weekend.

Not playing in Week 5
Gibbs (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Gibbs was a late addition to the Lions' Week 5 injury report Friday as limited due to a hamstring issue, which resulted in a questionable tag for the upcoming game day. After he was downgraded to doubtful Saturday, there was little wiggle room for him to be available Sunday, and that has come to pass. Detroit thus will lean on David Montgomery to lead its backfield, with Craig Reynolds and Zonovan Knight on hand for any remaining RB reps.

Downgraded to doubtful
Gibbs (hamstring) has been downgraded to doubtful ahead of Sunday's contest against the Panthers.
Analysis: That Gibbs was added late to Friday's injury report was an unfortunately telling sign. It appears as if the rookie is thus slated to miss the first game of his young career. David Montgomery figures to see the bulk of the workload in the event Gibbs is inevitably ruled out, with Craig Reynolds and Zonovan Knight also chipping in.

Late addition to injury report
Gibbs (hamstring) was added to Detroit's injury report Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Carolina.
Analysis: Gibbs was a limited practice participant Friday after not being listed the previous two days. It's worrisome for fantasy managers, especially given that it's a hamstring injury and Gibbs relies on his speed to make an impact off the bench behind lead back David Montgomery. If the rookie ends up inactive ahead of a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, the Lions can turn to Craig Reynolds and/or Zonovan Knight behind Montgomery.

Modest usage in Montgomery's return
Gibbs rushed eight times for 40 yards while securing four of five targets for 11 yards during Thursday's 34-20 win over the Packers.
Analysis: After logging 59 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 3, Gibbs dropped to 38 percent with the return of David Montgomery from a thigh bruise. The workload split may have been surprising simply given the questionable tag with which the latter entered the game, but the distribution of carries definitely was surprising after Montgomery handled 32 totes to Gibbs' eight. While Gibbs did see three more targets in the passing game, the rookie had minimal involvement in the red zone while Montgomery…read more

Montgomery back for TNF
Gibbs is welcoming back David Montgomery (thigh) to the Lions backfield for Thursday's game at Green Bay.
Analysis: With Montgomery sidelined this past Sunday versus the Falcons, Gibbs handled 17 carries and caught one of two passes en route to 82 yards from scrimmage. Montgomery himself racked up 37 carries through a little more than six quarters prior to injuring his thigh Week 2. The breakdown of RB reps for Detroit on Thursday remains to be seen, but Gibbs could be the team's leader in rushes for a second consecutive contest if Montgomery has a cap on his reps.

New high in touches
Gibbs rushed 17 times for 80 yards in Sunday's 20-6 win over the Falcons. He also caught one of two targets for two yards.
Analysis: Gibbs drew his first start with David Montgomery (thigh) sidelined and turned in his most productive performance yet. Although he made minimal impact as a pass catcher, Gibbs' output on the ground was helped by a long rush of 21 yards. Given his dynamic skill set, though, Gibbs likely still hasn't enjoyed his true breakout. With a quick turnaround ahead of Week 4's visit to Green Bay on Thursday night, Montgomery could remain sidelined or limited, which would help Gibbs' outlook as the lead…read more

Should get bulk of carries Sunday
Gibbs is expected to receive the majority of the snaps out of the backfield in Sunday's game against the Falcons, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The report doesn't come as a major surprise, given that the Lions' lead option on the ground through the team's first two games -- David Montgomery (thigh) -- is listed as doubtful and thus in line to miss the Week 3 contest. Gibbs has made slightly more noise in the passing game than on the ground thus far during his rookie season, recording nine catches for 57 yards on nine targets and carrying 14 times for 59 yards. Leads team in receptions
Gibbs rushed seven times for 17 yards and caught seven of nine targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 37-31 overtime loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Gibbs hardly got anything going on the ground, where he featured behind David Montgomery, who rushed 16 times for 67 yards and a touchdown. However, with Montgomery being carted off with a thigh injury during the second half, Gibbs could be in store for more carries going forward. The rookie also led the Lions in both catches and targets Sunday, showing versatility that could be on display more if Montgomery is limited or unavailable in Week 3 versus the Falcons.

Increased usage on tap
Gibbs could see an increased workload Sunday against Seattle, Benjamin Raven of MLive.com reports. "First game out of the gate, we really didn't want to overload any of those [rookies]," head coach Dan Campbell said after the Lions' season-opening win over the Chiefs. "And now they've got that one under their belt, so for Gibbs, he'll begin to get more touches now."
Analysis: David Montgomery drew the starting nod at running back in Week 1 against Kansas City and went on to nearly triple Gibbs in both offensive snaps and rush attempts. The rookie was much more efficient, though, averaging six yards per rush (compared to 3.5 for Montgomery) while leading all running backs across the league in broken tackles (six), despite his light workload. While Montgomery's presence could remain a problem for his fantasy production all season long -- especially as it relates to…read more

Logs only nine touches
Gibbs rushed seven times for 42 yards while securing both of his targets for 18 yards during Thursday's 21-20 win over Kansas City.
Analysis: While this wasn't the volume fantasy managers wanted for Gibbs, the Lions coaching staff did publicly state that the rookie might not see a full workload out of the gate. With that said, even with reduced expectations it was still a surprise to see him handle 14 less carries than David Montgomery, with Gibbs only seeing two looks in the passing game and no carries near the goal line. While he should see more work as the season unfolds, the electric playmaker may need to rely on extreme…read more

May see reduced workload
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that Gibbs may not see a full workload in the season opener Thursday against Kansas City, Michele Steele of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Campbell noted that the Lions want to be "smart" with Gibbs' usage in his NFL debut with an eye toward keeping the rookie running back healthy for the full 17-game season. While any work taken off Gibbs' plate likely means more action for David Montgomery, a lighter load doesn't necessarily preclude Gibbs from seeing enough high-value touches in the red zone and in the passing game to pay off in fantasy lineups. Not only has offensive coordinator Ben Johnson recently made headlines by saying…read more

To be deployed creatively
Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said the Lions will use Gibbs in "some ways that people don't quite think we might," Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: The 12th overall pick figures to see a mix of carries and targets when the Lions face the Chiefs on Thursday, splitting backfield snaps with David Montgomery behind a veteran offensive line that's returning five starters. The Lions may run some plays with both backs on the field, and Gibbs could see targets out wide or in the slot from empty looks even when he's the only RB on the field. The workload split between Gibbs and Montgomery is probably the top fantasy storyline to monitor for…read more

Not expected to play Saturday
Gibbs is among the key players not expected to see action in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The report suggests that the majority of the Lions' starters won't play Saturday in a game that will feature Teddy Bridgewater as the team's starting QB. In last Friday's preseason opener against the Giants, Gibbs carried six times for 19 yards and caught his only target for 18 yards while logging 18 snaps on offense.

Seven touches in NFL debut
Gibbs rushed six times for 19 yards and caught his only target for 18 yards in Friday's 21-16 preseason win over the Giants.
Analysis: Gibbs was viewed as a reach when the Lions picked him 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, but at least Detroit should give the rookie out of Alabama plenty of touches to justify the selection. He figures to be a direct replacement for D'Andre Swift, whom the Lions traded away after drafting Gibbs. The shifty running back showed off his pass-catching skills on an 18-yard reception to move the chains on Detroit's third possession, but Gibbs will need to be more efficient on the ground moving…read more

Part of two-headed monster
Coach Dan Campbell envisions a "two-headed monster" in the backfield with Gibbs and David Montgomery, ESPN.com's Eric Woodyard reports.
Analysis: Campbell is merely confirming what was made obvious by Detroit's offseason moves. The Lions let Jamaal Williams walk and later traded D'Andre Swift, but only after signing Montgomery to a three-year, $18 million contract ($8.75 million guaranteed) and drafting Gibbs at No. 12 overall. While Montgomery is a capable pass catcher in his own right, Campbell said he views Gibbs as the guy who "carries the scalpel" and "can hurt you in the pass game." The Lions head coach also mentioned his previous…read more

Participating in minicamp
Gibbs (ankle) is participating in the Lions' mandatory minicamp this week, Tim Twentyman of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Gibbs was bothered by a minor ankle injury during rookie minicamp, but he appears to have moved past the issue and is participating in full team drills at mandatory minicamp. The rookie first-round pick figures to play a major role in Detroit's backfield this season and has already displayed a versatile skill set during offseason workouts. Gibbs and David Montgomery can be used interchangeably, but the former profiles as the quicker, dual-threat option.

Bothered by ankle at rookie camp
Gibbs suffered a minor ankle injury Friday and won't practice Saturday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: It's only rookie minicamp at this point, with the first set of OTAs coming May 23-25. Gibbs should be a big part of Detroit's offense from the jump after he and Bijan Robinson became the first RBs since 2018 to get drafted in the first half of the first round. The Lions traded D'Andre Swift to Philadelphia two days later, completing an offseason backfield makeover in which they swapped out Swift and Jamaal Williams (Saints) for Gibbs and David Montgomery.
