Set to retire
Henne announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account shortly after the Chiefs' 38-35 win over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII that he will retire from professional football.
Analysis: Though starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes appeared to aggravate his Grade 2 high right-ankle sprain late in the second quarter of the Super Bowl, Henne's services ultimately weren't needed in the second half while Mahomes played through the pain and guided Kansas City to victory. Henne previously relieved an injured Mahomes for a brief spell in the divisional-round matchup with the Jaguars, stepping in to direct a touchdown drive before the star signal-caller returned to action. Unneeded in AFC Championship Game
Henne didn't see any action Sunday in the Chiefs' 23-20 win over the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.
Analysis: When starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain in the aftermath of the Chiefs' Jan. 21 win over the Jaguars in the divisional round, Henne looked as though he at least be would in line for increased work with the first-team offense in practice ahead of the AFC Championship Game. However, Mahomes ended up taking on all his usual work in practice and was able to handle all 66 of the Chiefs' snaps on offense Sunday, playing at close to his usual effectiveness…read more

Returning as Mahomes' backup
Henne agreed Wednesday to re-sign with the Chiefs on a one-year, $2 million contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Henne has proven capable of commanding Kansas City's offense in emergency circumstances across his five-year stint with the team, so his re-signing doesn't come as any sort of surprise. Of course, Henne only really carries fantasy intrigue as a roster handcuff to Mahomes, and even then only in leagues that start multiple quarterbacks.

Sees action in relief
Henne completed 11 of 16 pass attempts for 82 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-3 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Henne entered the game late in the fourth quarter in relief of Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a head injury. Mahomes was cleared of a concussion and told the media after the game that he was feeling fine, according to Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. That likely means Henne will find himself back on the bench for a Week 8 matchup against the Giants, though it will be worth monitoring Mahomes' practice participation throughout the week.

Beats Browns after Mahomes injury
Henne completed six of eight passes for 66 yards and an interception while adding 12 yards on two rushing attempts after replacing the injured Patrick Mahomes (concussion) in the third quarter of Sunday's 22-17 win over the Browns in the AFC divisional round.
Analysis: Henne took over in the third quarter with the Chiefs up 19-10 and driving. Kansas City got a field goal on that possession, but after Cleveland responded with a touchdown, Henne threw an inexcusable interception in the end zone on a ball lofted well over his receiver's head. He made amends on the ensuing possession after the Chiefs' defense got a much-needed stop, as Henne got within inches of the first down with a headfirst dive to cap a dramatic 3rd-and-14 scramble, then found Tyreek Hill to…read more

Tosses two touchdowns
Henne completed 23 of 32 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-21 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Henne made his first start since 2014 as the Chiefs rested star quarterback Patrick Mahomes with the AFC's top seed already secured. In his rare extended action, Henne was fairly efficient, finishing with a 111.2 passer rating while throwing touchdowns to Byron Pringle and Darwin Thompson. With Kansas City now shifting its full focus onto the playoffs, however, Henne will return to his usual backup role behind Mahomes.

Starting Week 17
Head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Henne will start the Chiefs' Week 17 game against the Chargers, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: With the Chiefs having already secured the AFC's No. 1 seed in the playoffs, Reid confirmed he would rest some key starters Week 17, most notably Patrick Mahomes. Henne has already made two appearances this season in garbage time, but Sunday's game against the Chargers will mark his first start since 2014.

Enters 2020 as Mahomes' backup
Coach Andy Reid named Henne the Chiefs' No. 2 quarterback Sunday, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Analysis: Henne suffered a high right ankle sprain and fractured ankle late during the 2019 preseason, causing him to begin the campaign on IR. The injuries didn't allow him to cover for Patrick Mahomes when he sat out Weeks 8 and 9 due to a dislocated kneecap. Instead, fellow vet Matt Moore got the nod, but now that Henne is healthy he'll be the first QB called upon for garbage-time work or a Mahomes absence in the coming season.

Staying with Kansas City
Henne agreed to a two-year deal with the Chiefs on Monday, Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports.
Analysis: The 34-year-old missed the first two months of the season after fracturing his ankle in August, and he slotted in behind Matt Moore -- who the Chiefs coerced out of retirement -- once he returned from injured reserve in early November. Henne never saw game action in 2019, but he seems likely to enter the 2020 campaign as the top backup to Patrick Mahomes.

No action in 2019
Henne did not record an offensive snap during the 2019 season.
Analysis: Henne served as the No. 3 option on Kansas City's roster behind Patrick Mahomes and Matt Moore in 2019. Even during the three-game span in which Mahomes was sidelined due to a dislocated kneecap, Henne's duties never extended beyond serving as Moore's backup. The 34-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

Resumes backup role
Henne (ankle) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Vikings, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
Analysis: With Patrick Mahomes (knee) inactive Sunday, Henne is slated to back up Matt Moore in his return to the team's QB mix after being activated from IR on Saturday.

Off IR, listed as questionable
Henne (ankle) has been activated off injured reserve and is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Vikings.
Analysis: Henne, who fractured his ankle toward the end of August, returned to practice near the end of October, ultimately setting the stage for his midseason return. Considering the Chiefs waived backup Kyle Shurmur on Saturday, it seems likely Henne will be available to back up Matt Moore in the likely event Patrick Mahomes (knee) misses a second consecutive week.
