Serving as emergency QB again
Dobbs (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Seattle and will be San Francisco's emergency third quarterback, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Dobbs hasn't yet been active for a game this season with Brandon Allen working as Brock Purdy's backup. In order for Dobbs to get into Sunday's game against the Seahawks, both Purdy and Allen would need to be ruled out due to injury, illness or ejection.

Working as emergency QB again
Dobbs (coach's decision) will serve as San Francisco's emergency third quarterback Sunday versus the Vikings, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Analysis: It's the second consecutive week that Dobbs has been designated the 49ers' emergency QB, as Brandon Allen has emerged as the team's preferred choice to back up Brock Purdy. Dobbs will be able to enter Sunday's game only if both Purdy and Dobbs become unavailable due to injury or ejection.

Could secure backup QB role
Dobbs may be the frontrunner to back up Brock Purdy in San Francisco after his performance in a 16-10 win over the Saints on Sunday, Kevin Patra of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Dobbs led the 49ers on three scoring drives while completing 12 of his 21 passing attempts for 133 yards, and also ran the ball three times for 25 yards and a touchdown. The Tennessee product is considered to be competing with Brandon Allen for the job, with head coach Kyle Shannahan not tipping his hand, stating, "Dobbs got to play a little bit more and I thought he did a real good job leading on some of those drives. First QB used after starter
Dobbs was the first backup quarterback to enter Sunday's exhibition contest for San Francisco.
Analysis: Dobbs wound up completing 57 percent of his passes for 133 yards and a rushing touchdown. Fellow backup Brandon Allen started the last preseason contest ahead of the Passtronaut, but the players reversed roles while serving as the reserves against the Saints. Brock Purdy (2-for-6, 11 yards) is the unquestioned starter despite some rusty throws Sunday, but Dobbs may have leaped ahead of Allen based on both production and usage as Week 1 approaches.

Competing for backup role
Dobbs will compete with Brandon Allen for the No. 2 quarterback role in San Francisco during the preseason, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 49ers' star-studded roster has created no controversy over who will start come Week 1, leaving the battle for Brock Purdy's backup as the key competition to watch this preseason. Dobbs performed well in the team's first preseason contest, completing 70 percent of his passes for 146 yards and a rushing touchdown. Finds work in San Francisco
The 49ers and Dobbs agreed to a contract Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: In 13 games (12 starts) between the Cardinals and Vikings this past season, Dobbs completed 262 of 417 (62.8 percent) of his passes for 2,464 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also was viable as a runner, averaging 5.5 yards on his 77 carries while scoring six TDs on the ground. Brock Purdy is the unquestioned starting quarterback for San Francisco, but Dobbs' recent on-field work should give him a leg up on the backup job ahead of holdover Brandon Allen.

Tosses 13 TDs across 12 starts
Dobbs appeared in 13 games during the 2023 season, completing 262 of 417 pass attempts (62.8 percent) for 2,464 yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while adding 77 carries for 421 yards and six more touchdowns.
Analysis: Coming into 2023, Dobbs had started just two NFL games since being taken in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Steelers. After ending 2022 as the Titans' starter, Dobbs signed with the Browns as a free agent but was traded to the Cardinals just ahead of Week 1. Will be backup at Detroit
Coach Kevin O'Connell said Friday that Dobbs will serve as the Vikings' No. 2 quarterback behind starter Nick Mullens in Sunday's game in Detroit.
Analysis: Dobbs hasn't seen the field for the Vikings since he was benched in favor of Mullens during their Week 14 win at Las Vegas. The 28-year-old had been the Vikings' No. 3 signal-caller for the Week 17 loss to the Packers, but Dobbs will move up a spot on the depth chart for the regular-season finale while rookie Jaren Hall drops to third.

Demoted to No. 3 quarterback
Coach Kevin O'Connell announced Thursday that Jaren Hall, not Dobbs, will be Nick Mullens' backup for Saturday's game against the Bengals.
Analysis: It's been a quick fall from grace for Dobbs after he helped guide Minnesota to back-to-back wins in Weeks 9 and 10 following his acquisition from the Cardinals. The Vikings then dropped two straight before scoring just three points last Sunday in Las Vegas. Dobbs has thrown two touchdowns and five interceptions in those last three games, while also fumbling three times and losing one. Loses hold of starting gig
Dobbs will move into a backup role for Saturday's game against the Bengals with the Vikings naming Nick Mullens their Week 15 starting quarterback.
Analysis: Dobbs' standing atop the depth chart was already on shaky ground after a four-interception performance against the Bears, and he was unable to rebound following the Vikings' Week 13 bye. He completed just 10 of 23 pass attempts for 63 yards and carried five times for 21 yards in this past Sunday's 3-0 win over the Raiders before getting benched in the fourth quarter. Benched in Week 14 win
Dobbs completed 10 of 23 passes for 63 yards and added 21 rushing yards on five carries before being replaced by Nick Mullens in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 3-0 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: It was the lowest-scoring game in the NFL since 2007, and Mullens led Minnesota to the only scoring drive on his second possession after taking over, taking the Vikings 56 yards for their only trip into the red zone to set up a 36-yard Greg Joseph field goal. With Dobbs having posted poor numbers two games in a row, Mullens seems very likely to get his first start of the season in Week 15 against the Bengals.

Will remain starter Week 14
Dobbs will remain Minnesota's starting quarterback Sunday against the Raiders, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
Analysis: Minnesota's coaching staff mulled over the idea of inserting Nick Mullens or Jaren Hall under center after Dobbs struggled in the team's 12-10 loss to the Bears in Week 12, but Dobbs will ultimately remain atop the depth chart coming out of the Vikings' bye week. Prior to the poor showing against Chicago, Dobbs had at least one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown in each of his first three appearances for the Vikings. O'Connell considering QB change
Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell said after Monday's 12-10 loss to the Bears that he'll evaluate Dobbs' four-game performance at quarterback before naming a starter following the Vikings' Week 13 bye, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: O'Connell mentioned that he debated putting Nick Mullens into Monday's game after Dobbs struggled and threw four interceptions, so the Vikings could be serious about considering a quarterback change. Dobbs would still likely be the favorite to start over Mullens or Jaren Hall, but it doesn't sound like a given. Since being acquired from the Cardinals on Oct. 31, Dobbs has started in three of his four appearances and has completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 6.5 yards per attempt, five…read more

Done in by turnovers Monday
Dobbs completed 22 of 32 passes for 185 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions in the Vikings' 12-10 loss to the Bears on Monday night. He also rushed twice for 11 yards.
Analysis: Dobbs ultimately cobbled together a decent completion rate, but he averaged just 5.8 yards per attempt and constantly short-circuited drives with his interceptions. Improbably, only one of Dobbs' four picks led to any Bears points, and only a field goal at that. However, the first three came in Chicago territory, which was particularly costly in a game decided by two points. Dobbs did manage to pull the Vikings ahead just past the midway point of the fourth quarter with a 17-yard touchdown pass…read more

Solid in Week 11 loss
Dobbs completed 20 of 32 passes for 221 yards with one touchdown and one interception and rushed eight times for 21 yards and another score in the Vikings' 21-20 loss to the Broncos on Sunday night. He also committed three fumbles, losing one and recovering the other two.
Analysis: Dobbs turned in another serviceable performance from an overall production standpoint, but his ball security issues Sunday night stood out. The journeyman signal-caller's two turnovers led to Broncos field goals, and after leading the Vikings to three points on a marathon 14-play drive in the fourth quarter, Dobbs couldn't help Minnesota answer Denver's go-ahead touchdown, throwing four straight incompletions to close out his team's final possession. Strong in first start with Vikings
Dobbs completed 23 of 34 passes for 268 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-19 win over the Saints. He added eight rushes for 44 yards and an additional score.
Analysis: Dobbs began the game on fire and had 260 total yards to go with two scores in the first half. His first trip to the end zone came on the ground, as he ran in a score from seven yards away. He followed that up by running a perfect two-minute drill, which he capped by finding T.J. Hockenson for a 28-yard touchdown. Poised for Week 10 start
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that Dobbs will receive all the first-team reps in practice this week with the expectation that he starts Sunday against the Saints, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: O'Connell's announcement isn't particularly surprising, as Week 9 starter Jaren Hall is in the concussion protocol, while Dobbs came off the bench and helped lead the Vikings to a rousing 31-28 win over the Falcons in his debut. After getting few live reps in practice with his new team following his acquisition from the Cardinals on Tuesday, Dobbs had some expected struggles -- he lost two fumbles and took a sack in the end zone -- but he came on strong late in the game and finished with 20…read more

Leads Minnesota to win off bench
Dobbs took over for an injured Jaren Hall (concussion) after two series in Sunday's win at Atlanta and went 20-of-30 passing for 158 yards for two touchdowns. He also had seven carries for 66 yards and a touchdown. Dobbs led the Vikings on a game-winning touchdown drive with two minutes and eight seconds left.
Analysis: Dobbs put together an amazing performance considering he joined the team only Wednesday after his trade from Arizona. He wasn't expected to play in the game since he was just getting up to speed on the playbook, but he was called into action when Hall exited early in the contest. Dobbs started off poorly by taking a sack in the end zone for a safety and also losing a fumble early in the game. Debuting Sunday in backup role
Dobbs will be Minnesota's backup quarterback behind Jaren Hall against the Falcons on Sunday, Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Dobbs will make his Vikings debut after starting eight games for the Cardinals, but he isn't ready to run the offense yet after having been acquired in a trade Tuesday. Hall will make his first NFL start after entering Minnesota's previous game in relief following Kirk Cousins' season-ending Achilles tear. Dobbs could be an option to start as soon as Week 10 against the Saints, though Hall and Nick Mullens (back) are also candidates to ascend to the top of the depth chart in Cousins' absence.

Won't start immediately for new team
Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell said that Dobbs, whom the Vikings acquired from the Cardinals on Tuesday, isn't expected to start Sunday's game at Atlanta but could be available to play, Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: O'Connell noted that the Vikings are preparing rookie fifth-round pick Jaren Hall to make his first career start in the wake of Kirk Cousins suffering a season-ending Achilles injury Week 8 against Green Bay. While Hall could end up sticking atop the depth chart on a more permanent basis if he performs well against Atlanta, Dobbs at least gives Minnesota a battle-tested option to turn to at quarterback if Hall doesn't prove to be NFL ready. The Cardinals traded Dobbs to the Vikings on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Two days removed from Arizona coach Jonathan Gannon reaffirming Dobbs' status as the team's starting quarterback and then rescinding it one day later, Dobbs is on the move to a QB-needy team after the Vikings lost Kirk Cousins for the season to a torn Achilles this past Sunday. Not starting in Week 9
Coach Jonathan Gannon said Monday that Dobbs won't start Sunday's game in Cleveland, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: After Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Ravens, Gannon told Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com that Dobbs would remain the team's starter Week 9, but after reviewing the tape, he's opted to move on to Kyler Murray or rookie Clayton Tune. Murray is closing in on a return to action from last season's torn ACL, but if he doesn't gain clearance to play Sunday, it'll be Tune under center for Arizona. Late rally falls short Sunday
Dobbs completed 25 of 37 pass attempts for 208 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 26 rushing yards and another score on six attempts in Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Dobbs earned another start after Kyler Murray (knee) was ruled doubtful for Sunday's matchup against Baltimore. The backup orchestrated a late comeback attempt with two touchdown throws in the fourth quarter to give the Cardinals life after trailing by multiple scores for the majority of the contest. Dobbs is in line to start Sunday's game against Baltimore with the Cardinals listing Kyler Murray (knee) as doubtful for Week 8, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Dobbs could be making his last start of the season Sunday, considering Murray was a full practice participant throughout the week and no longer is listed with a knee injury on Arizona's official injury report. The task won't be easy, with Baltimore leading or tied for the league lead in a slew of defensive stats, including net yards allowed per pass attempt (4.1), touchdown passes allowed (four) and points against (97).

Working with starters in practice
Dobbs worked with the starting offense during the open portion of Friday's practice while Kyler Murray (knee) continued throwing to practice-squad players, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: The Cardinals haven't yet indicated whether Dobbs is scheduled for another start, or if his appearance with the first-team offense was an act of gamesmanship on the part of head coach Jonathan Gannon to create that impression. Murray was removed from the injury report Thursday and will need to either be re-added Friday or activated from the PUP list by Saturday in order to be eligible to play this weekend. Scores lone TD in loss
Dobbs completed 19 of 33 pass attempts for 146 yards while taking seven carries for 43 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Dobbs struggled as a passer for the second week in a row, resulting in his third game without a passing touchdown in seven starts this season. The 28-year-old was able to salvage his day from a fantasy standpoint by ripping off a 25-yard touchdown scamper on Arizona's lone touchdown drive Sunday. Accuracy struggles in Week 6 loss
Dobbs completed 21 of 41 passes for 235 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed seven times for 47 yards in the Cardinals' 26-9 loss to the Rams on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: After completing at least 67.7 percent of his passes in each of the first five games of the season, Dobbs struggled with accuracy for the second straight contest following his season-low 46.9 percent completion rate in Week 5 against the Bengals, and he saw his two-game multi-touchdown streak snapped in the process. Held in check by Cincy
Dobbs completed 15 of 32 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 34-20 loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: He also gained one yard on three carries and lost a fumble. The two TDs both came in the second quarter and gave the Cardinals a 14-10 lead, but Dobbs then threw a pick-six to Cam Taylor-Britt just before halftime and Arizona never recovered. The INTs were the first of the season for Dobbs, but his 6:2 TD:INT is still impressive for a QB who was a career backup coming into 2023. Solid fantasy effort in loss
Dobbs completed 28 of 41 pass attempts for 265 yards, a pair of touchdown passes and no turnovers to go along with 48 rushing yards on 12 attempts in Sunday's 35-16 loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Dobbs turned in his best fantasy start through four games this season despite losing by several scores to San Francisco. It was the 28-year-old journeyman's first game of his career with multiple passing touchdowns, as he continues to start in place of the injured Kyler Murray (knee). Efficient in upset win
Dobbs completed 17 of 21 passes for 189 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-16 win over the Cowboys. He added 55 rushing yards on six carries.
Analysis: Facing a Dallas defense that had dominated the opposition through its first two games, Dobbs rarely seemed rattled as he led Arizona to three touchdowns and three field goals, including a two-yard TD toss to Marquise Brown in the fourth quarter that all but sealed the victory. Dobbs has looked good so far in his first extended stretch as a starting QB, but he faces a daunting task in Week 4 on the road against the 49ers.

Dobbs completed 21 of 31 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown while adding 41 rushing yards and a TD on three carries in Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Giants. He also ran in a two-point conversion.
Analysis: The journeyman quarterback led the Cardinals to a 20-0 halftime lead, highlighted by Dobbs' 23-yard TD run early in the second quarter, but Arizona's offense went cold after intermission and let New York come storming back. Dobbs has done more than enough so far to keep rookie Clayton Tune on the bench, but the Cardinals face an extremely tough matchup in Week 3 when the Cowboys come to town.

Dobbs completed 21 of 30 passes for 132 yards without a touchdown or interception in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: He also lost three yards on three carries and committed three fumbles, losing two of them. Arizona's offense was stagnant most of the afternoon under Dobbs, generating just three field goals while the defense scored the only TD for the team on a second-quarter fumble recovery by Cameron Thomas. It was only the third start of Dobbs' career after he was under center for the Titans' final two games of 2022, and considering he didn't even join the Cardinals until late August, his lack of production…read more

Confirmed as starter
Dobbs has taken the snaps with the first-team offense during warmups, signaling that he'll serve as the Cardinals' starting quarterback in Sunday's game against the Commanders, Dani Sureck of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Though first-year head coach Jonathan Gannon never officially named a starting quarterback, multiple reports over the past few days had already pointed in the direction of Dobbs getting the nod over rookie fifth-round pick Clayton Tune. Dobbs will be making just the third start of his seven-year career Sunday, after the first two came late last season with the Titans. In his sparse NFL action to date, Dobbs has completed 50 of 85 pass attempts (58.8 percent) for 456 yards, two touchdowns and…read more

Slated to start Sunday
Dobbs is expected to start at quarterback in the Cardinals' season opener this Sunday at Washington, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Since the Steelers drafted Dobbs in the fourth round in 2017, he's played in just eight games with two starts, both of which came with the Titans last season. In those starts, he completed 40 of 68 passes for 411 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing eight times for 44 yards. Week 1 job wide open
Dobbs faces a wide-open opportunity to earn the Week 1 starting job at Washington with Arizona having released Colt McCoy on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Dobbs, who joined the Cardinals via a trade from Cleveland last Thursday, is the likeliest option to start with McCoy out of the picture and Kyler Murray (knee) expected to start the regular season on the reserve/PUP list. Rookie fifth-round pick Clayton Tune represents his top competition, and though Dobbs will only have a few weeks and zero preseason reps to acquaint himself with Arizona's offense, he did play under offensive coordinator Drew Petzing last season in Cleveland. Headed to Arizona
The Browns are slated to trade Dobbs to the Cardinals along with a 2024 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for a 2024 fifth-rounder, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: As a result, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kellen Mond, who Cabot reports was pulled back off of waivers by the Browns, are in line to back up Deshaun Watson. With the Cardinals, Dobbs provides his new team with another potential starting QB option in the event that Kyler Murray (knee) misses time early on this season.

Named top backup QB
Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Thursday that Dobbs will open the coming season as the Browns' No. 2 QB, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Analysis: With Kellen Mond having been waived Thursday, 2023 fifth-rounder Dorian Thompson-Robinson slots in as the team's QB3 ahead of Week 1. Dobbs thus is next in line for regular-season signal-caller reps in the event that starter Deshaun Watson misses any time.

Returns to Cleveland
The Browns and Dobbs agreed to terms on a one-year contract Monday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Dobbs served as Cleveland's backup quarterback to Jacoby Brissett during Deshaun Watson's 11-game suspension to begin last season. But the team cut Dobbs to make room on the roster for Watson in late November, and he eventually followed a stint on the Lions' practice squad with another on the Titans' active roster. Costly turnover in loss
Dobbs completed 20 of 29 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Saturday's 20-16 loss to Jacksonville. He added five rushes for 32 yards.
Analysis: Dobbs drew his second consecutive start, this time with the AFC South title on the line. He performed admirably for much of the game, highlighted by a 21-yard dart to Chigoziem Okonkwo for a touchdown midway through the second quarter. However, Dobbs made a vital mistake with only three minutes remaining in the matchup when he fumbled while being sacked, which the Jacksonville defense returned for the game-winning touchdown. Will start Week 18
Head coach Mike Vrabel said Monday that Dobbs will start Saturday's game against the Jaguars, Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com reports.
Analysis: With Ryan Tannehill (ankle) sidelined, Malik Willis drew the start Week 16, but after a disappointing loss to Houston, Tennessee opted to give Dobbs a chance Week 17. While the Titans still lost to Dallas, Vrabel said he liked Dobbs' decision making during the contest and will give the six-year pro another opportunity during Saturday's AFC South title matchup. In mix to start Week 18
Coach Mike Vrabel has yet to reveal his choice to start against Jacksonville in Week 18 between Dobbs and Malik Willis, Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site reports.
Analysis: Dobbs' 232 passing yards in Thursday's loss to the Cowboys were just two fewer than Willis has mustered in his first three NFL starts combined. Willis has more long-term upside, but in a win-and-in scenario against the AFC South rival Jaguars, Dobbs is likely the front-runner to get the starting nod. "That's the only thing that matters, is winning one game," Vrabel said. "Getting healthy, getting recovered and then winning one game, and finding out who is going to do that."

Adequate performance in first start
Dobbs completed 20 of 39 passes for 232 yards with one touchdown and one interception while rushing three times for 12 yards in the Titans' 27-13 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night. He also committed two fumbles, losing one and recovering the other.
Analysis: Dobbs barely completed half his pass attempts and his two turnovers were a blemish, but given the brief amount of time he had to prepare and his opponent, the veteran signal-caller acquitted himself reasonably well. The 2017 fourth-round pick of the Steelers connected with Robert Woods for his one touchdown from seven yards out late in the third quarter, and he completed passes to nine different players overall. Slated to face Cowboys
Dobbs is slated to start at QB for the Titans in Thursday night's game against the Cowboys, John Glennon of SI.com reports.
Analysis: Thursday's contest doesn't have playoff implications for the Titans -- they will face the Jaguars in Week 18 with the AFC South title on the line - so the team is in line to give Dobbs an opportunity to make his first career NFL regular-season start in a game in which multiple key players are being held out. Signed to Titans' active roster
Dobbs was signed by the Titans off of the Lions' practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: Dobbs was reverted to the Lions' practice unit after being active for the team's Week 15 win over the Jets, but he will now head to Tennessee. The quarterback could serve as the backup option behind Malik Willis in Week 16 if Ryan Tannehill (ankle) is unable to go versus Houston. Dobbs reverted to the Lions' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Dobbs was elevated from the practice squad for the first time since joining Detroit's practice squad two weeks ago, serving as one of the team's three active quarterbacks alongside starter Jared Goff and backup Nate Sudfeld. However, Goff went on to play all 68 of the team's offensive snaps as expected. Dobbs will now be eligible for two more game-day activations while with the Lions this season.

Dobbs was elevated to the active roster Saturday.

Locked into No. 2 role
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski affirmed Thursday that Dobbs is the team's primary backup quarterback behind current starter Jacoby Brissett, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Dobbs' solid preseason showing allowed him to beat out fellow backup signal-caller Josh Rosen, who was signed to the Browns' practice squad Thursday, for this role behind Brissett. However, it's uncertain where the current No. 2 quarterback will slot into Cleveland's depth chart once eventual starter Deshaun Watson returns from his 11-game suspension to start the regular season.

Scores in Sunday's start
Dobbs completed 14 of 20 passes for 141 yards and rushed four times for 47 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-20 preseason loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: Dobbs started and played the entire first half as well as Cleveland's opening series of the third quarter. He led the Browns to scores on each of his four drives, including a three-yard touchdown rush of his own during the first quarter. After a successful showing, Dobbs handed a 20-14 lead over to Josh Rosen, who subsequently completed just 7 of 20 passes for 88 yards. Frontrunner for backup job
Dobbs is currently the favorite to open the season as the Browns' backup quarterback, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday that Dobbs remains ahead of Josh Rosen for the backup job behind Jacoby Brissett, but it's still an active competition. Dobbs joined the Browns this offseason after spending the 2021 campaign as a member of the Steelers, failing to enter any games during the season.

Leads all scoring drives
Dobbs completed 10 of 13 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 24-13 win over Jacksonville in preseason action.
Analysis: Dobbs led the offense's three scoring drives -- the defense produced one touchdown -- and got the bulk of the snaps at quarterback after the coaching decision to rest top backup Jacoby Brissett. There are no changes in the quarterback depth chart, as Brissett will fill in for Deshaun Watson, whose suspension will be at least six games. It is clear that Dobbs is the No. 3 ahead of Josh Rosen, who engineered the final three possessions.

Vying for backup job
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Dobbs has a leg up on Josh Rosen to be the team's third quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Analysis: If Deshaun Watson is suspended prior to Week 1 as expected, that would make Dobbs the Browns' de facto No. 2 option. That might make him worthy of stashing in uber-deep two-quarterback leagues, as Cleveland figures to be playing from behind often as long as Watson is out, and Dobbs does possess the tools to produce as a rusher if nothing else.

Analysis: Dobbs had a tryout with the Ravens earlier in the week, but he'll sign with another AFC North team. Earns tryout
Dobbs (toe) received a tryout with the Ravens on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Dobbs missed the 2021 season with a toe injury, but it appears the injury is behind him. The 27-year-old last suited up for the Steelers in 2020, where he played a total of nine snaps. The Ravens currently have no one behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on their quarterback positional depth chart, so there is room for Dobbs on the roster, if he impressed enough in his workout.

Dobbs completed four of six passes for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' 16-3 preseason win over the Cowboys in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
Analysis: Dobbs entered the game in the fourth quarter behind Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins. Although the 2017 fourth-rounder saw the least work of the trio, he was the only quarterback to pass for a touchdown in the contest. Shockingly waived
Dobbs was waived by the Jaguars on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Both Dobbs and Mike Glennon were surprisingly jettisoned, leaving just unproven rookie Jake Luton as the only backup behind Gardner Minshew. It's especially shocking considering the Jaguars sent a 2020 fifth-round pick to the Steelers last year in an effort to lock in a secure backup behind then-starter Nick Foles. Both Dobbs and Glennon should receive plenty of interest on the open market, but it seems likely at least one could return back to Jacksonville after a frantic NFL pickup period.
