Let go by Cleveland
The Browns released Freeman from their practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: Freeman spent three-plus weeks on Cleveland's practice squad, but with Nick Chubb (knee, PUP) and Nyheim Hines (knee, NFI) practicing and nearing a return coupled with Pierre Strong's return to health made Freeman expendable. The 28-year-old Freeman will look for an opportunity elsewhere.

Inks to Cleveland's practice squad
The Browns signed Freeman to the practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: Freeman spent time with the Cowboys this offseason, but he wasn't able to stick to the team's final roster. Now, he gets an opportunity in Cleveland, where, with Pierre Strong (hamstring) considered week-to-week, a chance to contribute could come as early as Sunday versus the Giants.

Doesn't make 'Boys' 53-man roster
Freeman was released by the Cowboys on Tuesday.
Analysis: Freeman's chances of making the Cowboys' 53-man roster appeared slim due to the fact that he was the third running back behind Malik Davis and Deuce Vaughn entering Saturday's preseason finale against the Chargers. Freeman finished the preseason with 67 rushing yards on 15 carries while adding one catch for seven yards. The 2018 third-round pick should garner some interest from teams looking to add a veteran running back to their roster or practice squad.

Third back on field Saturday
Freeman carried the ball eight times for 35 yards and caught his only target for seven yards in Saturday's 26-19 preseason loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: With Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle sitting out Dallas' preseason finale, Malik Davis and Deuce Vaughn both saw carries before Freeman did and posted better yards per carry averages on the day, which bodes poorly for the veteran's chances of being on the roster for Week 1. Freeman has been barely hanging on in the NFL for a few years now, and his 77 carries for the Rams in 2023 was his highest total since 2019. While he still appears capable of handling a depth role in a backfield, the Cowboys…read more

Solid showing in win
Freeman (groin) rushed seven times for 32 yards in the Cowboys' 27-12 preseason win over the Raiders on Saturday night.
Analysis: Freeman was able to suit up after having suffered a groin injury earlier in the month, and he finished second in rushing yardage after coming into the game behind starter Malik Davis. Freeman should have a solid chance of securing the No. 3 running back job given his experience, as well as the fact Davis didn't exactly impress with his starting opportunity Saturday (five carries, 14 yards).

Leaves practice with injury
Freeman left Monday's practice with what appeared to be a groin injury, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The veteran running back was having a good camp, but any lengthy absence for Freeman could cost him standing in Dallas' backfield. Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott remain the favorites to handle the biggest roles in a potential committee. Freeman's availability for Sunday's preseason game against the Rams should become clear over the next few days.

Well positioned for backup role
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones suggested Monday that Freeman is in good position for a roster spot and backup role, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jones said Freeman is "a great 2-3 combination in terms of what he can do as a backup" and "a great complement to [Ezekiel Elliott]". Jones then mentioned Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis having to "battle it out," which could be taken as a sign that Freeman's roster spot is more secure than Dowdle's even though the latter was the No. 2 RB in Dallas last season. It's only the first week of training camp and a lot could change before Week 1, but it seems Freeman is at least making an impression with…read more

Picked up by Dallas
Freeman signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Freeman spent his first three seasons with the Broncos before stops with the Panthers, Texans and Rams the last three years. The journeyman tallied 319 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in Los Angeles last year across 14 games. Dallas lost Tony Pollard to free agency, so its running back room currently consists of Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn (ankle), Malik Davis, Snoop Conner and Freeman. Freeman could get an opportunity to carve out a role for himself, but the Cowboys still seem likely to…read more

Logs most rush attempts since 2019
Freeman finished the 2023 regular season with 77 rushes for 319 yards and two touchdowns, adding one catch for 13 yards.
Analysis: Signed a day after Sony Michel retired, Freeman spent much of the year relegated as deep reserve option in the backfield behind Kyren Williams, Ronnie Rivers, and at one point, Darrell Henderson. When Freeman did take the field as a co-starter alongside Henderson when Williams and Rivers went down with injury in Weeks 7 through 11, the veteran back made the most of his opportunity, posting a 50-215-1 line in the four-game stretch. Five touches in finale
Freeman rushed four times for two yards and caught his lone target for 13 yards during Sunday's 21-20 victory against San Francisco.
Analysis: Freeman essentially split snaps with starter Ronnie Rivers (13-52-0) but was ineffective with his limited touches aside from his lone catch, his first of the season. In 14 games with the Rams this season, Freeman finished with a modest 77-319-2 rushing line as the tertiary option in the backfield behind Kyren Williams and Rivers, and he'll likely retain the same limited role in the Rams' playoff opener against the Lions.

Ineffective in win
Freeman rushed six times for 16 yards during Sunday's 28-20 victory against the Commanders.
Analysis: The veteran back actually saw an uptick in usage against Washington, taking the field for 17 snaps on offense after garnering just 12 snaps combined in the previous two contests. Freeman didn't do a whole lot with his carries, topping out with a four-yard rush and just 2.6 YPC, while Kyren Williams had another monster game on the ground (27-152-1) but did fumble twice. Freeman's role will remain capped as a backup unless the turnover issues for Williams persist.

Nets nine yards
Freeman rushed three times for nine yards during Sunday's 37-31 overtime loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: For the second straight week, Freeman's usage was limited to a handful of snaps in relief of Kyren Williams, and all three of the veteran's rushing attempts went for exactly three yards. Williams managed to put up 114 rushing yards on a whopping 25 carries, signaling that the Rams will continue to trust him with the vast majority of touches in the backfield and keep Freeman relegated to very limited playing time on offense.

Garners just four snaps
Freeman gained zero yards on his only rushing attempt during Sunday's 36-19 victory against the Browns.
Analysis: The veteran's numbers took a nosedive compared to last week's 13-77-1 line against the Cardinals, while Kyren Williams had his second straight game with more than 100 scrimmage yards, putting up a respectable 21-88-1 line on the ground while adding three catches for 24 yards. Productive despite Williams' return
Freeman rushed 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Rams' 37-14 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
Analysis: Kyren Williams had a stellar return from injured reserve with 204 total yards and two receiving touchdowns, but Freeman still found a way to make an impact of his own on an afternoon during which the game script became increasingly favorable to the ground attack. Freeman's 23-yard scoring run with 8:19 remaining was his second of the season and also helped put him over the 70-yard mark for the second straight game. Returning to No. 2 role Sunday
Freeman will serve as the Rams' No. 2 running back Sunday against the Cardinals with Los Angeles set to activate Kyren Williams (ankle) from injured reserve ahead of the Week 12 contest, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Williams took over as the Rams' lead back Week 2, carrying 82 times for 404 yards (4.9 average) and four touchdowns to go with 13 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown on 22 targets across five games as the team's starter before he landed on IR on Oct. 21. Leads backfield with 17 carries
Freeman rushed 17 times for 73 yards and was not targeted as a receiver in Sunday's 17-16 win over Seattle.
Analysis: Freeman handled the bulk of early down work for the Rams while Darrell Henderson worked out of passing formations Sunday. The latter did vulture a one-yard touchdown run away from Freeman, which could have boosted the replacement starter's fantasy results from good to great. Freeman is averaging 53.8 rushing yards but no receptions in four games in the absence of injured starter Kyren Williams (ankle). Leads team in carries
Freeman rushed 12 times for 32 yards in Sunday's 20-3 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Freeman was also unsuccessfully targeted once. The tailback led Los Angeles in rush attempts and yards, but his production was still underwhelming. Nonetheless, with teammates Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) on IR, Freeman and Darrell Henderson figure to remain the Rams' top runners when they return from their bye week.

Finds end zone against Cowboys
Freeman rushed the ball nine times for 44 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 43-20 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Freeman was out-touched 15-9 by Darrell Henderson, with the gap in workload coming primarily due to the latter's work in the passing game. On the ground, Freeman was fairly efficient as he gained at least six yards on five of his carries. He also found the end zone just before halftime on a one-yard plunge. With Zach Evans (coach's decision) inactive and Myles Gaskin limited to special teams work, Freeman should see a decent role so long as Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) are…read more

Sees 12 carries
Freeman carried the ball 12 times for 66 yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Freeman played behind Darrell Henderson, but the two were the only backs to see touches in the Rams' new-look backfield. Freeman picked up double-digit yards on two of his carries and added an additional pair of nine-yard gains. Even in a complementary role, Freeman should have some fantasy relevance for at least the next three games while Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) are sidelined.

Likely to start, share work
Freeman is the Rams' likely starting running back for Sunday's game against the Steelers, and he and Darrell Henderson are expected to take on "the majority of the workload" out of the backfield, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Analysis: Both Freeman and Henderson are set to go from the practice squad to the top two positions on the depth chart in less than a week, as the former was signed to the 53-man roster Tuesday while the latter was elevated Saturday. The two backs received the promotions after the Rams' top two options, Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) both recently landed on injured reserve, keeping them out for at least the next four games. Analysis: Freeman will get a permanent spot on the Rams' 53-man roster after the team had previously elevated him from its practice squad in Weeks 2 through 4. Though he's seen all 37 of his snaps on special teams in his three appearances, the veteran could have a role out of the backfield Sunday against the Steelers with both Kyren Williams (ankle) and Ronnie Rivers (knee) looking unlikely to be available. Freeman reverted to the Rams' practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Freeman played all 12 of his snaps on special teams and recorded an assisted tackle on punt coverage during Sunday's overtime win over the Colts. The Rams elevated Freeman to their active roster Saturday.
Analysis: This is the third time Freeman has been elevated by the Rams this season, meaning that the team will have to sign him to their active roster if it wishes to play him for the rest of the season. The 2018 third-round pick has played exclusively on special teams in his two appearances and would figure to reprise that role against the Colts on Sunday if he sees the field.

Analysis: Freeman was called up to the active roster ahead of Sunday's loss to the 49ers with Cam Akers and Zach Evans both being healthy scratches. The 27-year-old's only action came on special teams, as he played nine snaps while Kyren Williams handled the bulk of the rushing workload.

Analysis: Freeman landed on Los Angeles' practice squad after failing to make it through final roster cuts. The Rams are opting to load up on rushing options, as the veteran back will be the No. 5 on the depth chart. He is more likely to make an impact on special teams if he indeed sees the field.

The Rams released Freeman on Tuesday.
Analysis: Freeman finished the preseason with 13 carries for 46 rushing yards, adding four receptions for 10 yards. However, the 2018 third-round pick didn't do enough to land a spot on the Rams' initial 53-man roster. Freeman could garner some attention in free agency, but he hasn't been productive since his time in Denver (2018-2020).

Posts 36 all-purpose yards in loss
Freeman rushed four times for 14 yards, brought in two of three targets for seven yards and returned one kickoff for 15 yards in the Rams' 41-0 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.
Analysis: The veteran was the second running back to log a touch behind Ronnie Rivers and enjoyed a versatile role. Freeman wraps up the exhibition slate with a modest 46 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries, adding four receptions for 10 yards. He may have arguably outperformed rookie sixth-round pick Zach Evans yet didn't do as much as Rivers, but Freeman's ability to play special teams could be his ticket to a potential No. 4 running back role.

Four touches in defeat
Freeman rushed twice for six yards and caught both of his targets for three yards during Saturday's 34-17 preseason loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: Freeman saw the least playing time of the trio of running backs used by the Rams on Saturday and also made the least contributions. Ronnie Rivers (9-42-0) and Zach Evans (8-20-0 and a seven-yard reception) both saw ample touches during their time on the field, and Rivers looked particularly efficient for the second straight preseason game. Scores in Saturday's win
Freeman rushed seven times for 26 yards and a touchdown and failed to bring in his only target during the Rams' 34-17 preseason loss to the Chargers on Friday night.
Analysis: The veteran recorded a three-yard scoring rush late in the third quarter, with Freeman the third running back into the contest for the Rams after Ronnie Rivers and Zach Evans. The 27-year-old Freeman may need Los Angeles to keep four running backs in order to stick on the roster, so he'll have to continue making an impact during next Saturday night's preseason home matchup versus the Raiders in order to keep his chances strong.

Stymied in finale
Freeman rushed seven times for 15 yards and brought in his only target for two yards in the Texans' 32-31 win over the Colts on Sunday.
Analysis: Freeman was unable to take advantage of what had been an inconsistent Indy run defense, gaining nearly half his meager rushing yardage total on a seven-yard scamper and netting just eight yards on his other six totes. The journeyman back has appeared in 11 games with the Texans over the last two seasons and is on an expiring contract, and it remains to be seen if he'll have a chance to claim a complementary role behind the promising Dameon Pierce (IR-ankle) in training camp next summer.

Freeman had seven carries for 19 yards and caught three of five targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Jaguars in Week 17.
Analysis: Freeman (30 snaps) and Dare Ogunbowale (26 snaps) once again were the top backs on offense, but neither had a productive day. Freeman's 39 combined yards paced the backfield. Leading rusher again
Freeman rushed the ball 16 times for 32 yards in Saturday's 19-14 win over the Titans. He added one reception for six yards.
Analysis: Freeman accounted for 16 of the Texans' 24 carries by a running back in a tough matchup against the Titans. He was stymied throughout the game, as he averaged just two yards per carry and his longest gain of the day on the ground went for only five yards. Despite the poor performance, Freeman appears to have locked in an opportunity, as he now has 27 carries combined across the team's last two games heading into a Week 17 matchup against Jacksonville.

Leads backfield in OT loss
Freeman rushed 11 times for 51 yards and brought in his only target for five yards in the Texans' 30-24 overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

Team-high 12 carries Saturday
Freeman had 12 carries for 25 yards in Saturday's 17-13 preseason win over New Orleans. He caught all three of his targets for 19 yards.
Analysis: The bulk of Freeman's work came in the second half, a signal that he's a depth back and on the bubble. The top three backs are Marlon Mack, Rex Burkhead (who did not play) and Dameon Pierce. The only thing to change that would be if Pierce, whose five carries for a team-high 49 yards, puts him on the radar for a larger role. Stays with Houston
Freeman is re-signing with the Texans on a one-year, $1.2 million contract, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: The deal reportedly includes $895,000 fully guaranteed, suggesting Freeman is expected to have a spot on the 53-man roster. That's certainly the case given the current state of Houston's backfield depth chart, though the team has plenty of time to add more talent before Week 1. Quiet finale
Freeman played one snap on offense and 15 on special teams in Week 18's 28-25 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Freeman dropped to the third back with the return of David Johnson from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Prior to Week 18 and without an available Johnson, he had served as the second back but never threatened Rex Burkhead for the top role. Houston's rushing offense finished last in the league, so it's expected there will be some churn in 2022. Freeman is not under contract heading into the free agency period, and if the team had plans for him, they would have used him more over the final six weeks.

Backs up Burkhead
Freeman had six carries for 25 yards and did not catch his lone target in Sunday's 23-7 loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: With David Johnson on the reserve/COVID-19 list after missing last week's game due to a quadriceps injury, Freeman served as Houston's top backup to starter Rex Burkhead for a second straight week. He's had 42 touches over the last five games following a backfield shakeup, but if the Texans had any thoughts of Freeman being a lead back, they would have elevated him above Burkhead already.

Freeman had 12 carries for 34 yards in Sunday's 41-29 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Freeman returned to a significant role in Houston's backfield with David Johnson inactive due to a quadriceps injury. Freeman's seen decent touch volume in two of the last three weeks, but those opportunities are the result of injuries and COVID-19 issues for other backs. The Texans may want to give the 25-year-old running back some additional chances over the final two weeks of the season, with the intent of evaluating him for a potential role in 2022.

Reduced role in win
Freeman had three carries for eight yards in Sunday's 30-16 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Freeman was the last back standing in Week 14's loss to the Seahawks, making him an interesting speculative play in Week 15. However, his projected role took a hit when both Rex Burkhead and David Johnson were available and capped Freeman's playing time at nine snaps. He did have Houston's lone carry in the red zone, but Freeman should serve as the No. 3 back, at best, next weekend at home against the Chargers. If Scottie Phillips (ankle) can get healthy, Freeman would drop another peg on the…read more

Should have role this Sunday
Freeman is expected to complement David Johnson in the Houston backfield with Rex Burkhead (hip) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 AM Houston reports.
Analysis: The Houston backfield has largely been unproductive this season regardless of who takes the snaps, though there's at least a little extra potential for somebody to step up over the next couple weeks with a favorable schedule and thinned-out depth chart. Freeman was actually the team's only healthy tailback at one point in Sunday's 33-13 loss to the Seahawks, ultimately finishing with 11 carries for 15 yards and a 6-51-8 receiving line on eight targets. Texans head coach David Culley said…read more

Takes lead role after Burkhead hurt
Freeman rushed 11 times for 15 yards and caught six of eight targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 33-13 loss to the Seahawks.
Analysis: Freeman took over as the lead back after Rex Burkhead (groin) left the game, as David Johnson didn't dress because he's in COVID-19 protocols. He couldn't find any running room but was effective as a pass-catcher. If neither Burkhead nor Johnson are cleared to return in Week 15, Freeman would be an appealing option in a favorable matchup against Jacksonville.

Serving as No. 2 back again
Freeman is slated to serve as the top backup to starting running back Rex Burkhead in Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: When David Johnson was inactive last week due to an illness and thigh injury, Burkhead stepped into the starting role in the Texans' 31-0 loss to the Colts, while Freeman served as his top understudy. Freeman was expected to fall to third on the depth chart Sunday after Johnson returned to practice this week and wasn't given a designation, but those plans changed on short notice after Johnson was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list less than two hours before kickoff. Steps up as second back
Freeman had three carries for 10 yards and caught his lone target for 11 yards in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Freeman, who moved up the depth chart after the Texans made David Johnson (illness) inactive for the game, played 22 snaps in his most significant contribution since being claimed off waivers in early November. He served as the No. 2 back behind Rex Burkhead. It was Freeman's second game as part of the active roster and first time getting work on offense. The Texans may give him, along with Jaylen Samuels, more work in the coming weeks as the organization focuses on its 2022 roster.

Could have role on offense Sunday
Freeman could step in as the Texans' No. 2 running back behind Rex Burkhead in Sunday's game against the Colts with David Johnson (thigh/illness) listed as questionable for the contest but not expected to play, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Analysis: While both Burkhead and Johnson were active for last week's loss to the Dolphins, the two handled all of the Texans' running-back snaps, relegating Freeman exclusively to special-teams work. Johnson's absence will likely allow Burkhead to take on a greater portion of the snaps and touches out of the backfield, but expect Freeman to have at least a small role on offense as a change-of-pace option. Gets work on special teams
Freeman was active for the Texans' Week 12 loss the Jets and was limited to five snaps on special teams.
Analysis: Freeman made his Houston debut after being claimed off waivers from Carolina in early November. He was active for the first time after the Texans waived Phillip Lindsay earlier in the week, leaving Freeman third on the depth chart behind Rex Burkhead and David Johnson. As the youngest back on the active roster for a team that's 2-9, Freeman could work his way into the rotation if the Texans are serious about developing younger players, but he may eventually drop to fourth on the depth chart if…read more

Expected to be activated Week 12
Freeman is likely to serve as Houston's third running back Sunday against the Jets, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Freeman was claimed off waivers Nov. 9 and inactive for Week 11 against the Titans. However, after the Texans released Phillip Lindsay on Wednesday, there's an opening for a third back behind Rex Burkhead and David Johnson. That spot might normally go to Scottie Phillips (ankle), but he's on injured reserve and ineligible to return until Dec. 12 at the earliest. As a newcomer to the offense, Freeman is not expected to have a significant role Week 12.

Not ready for game action
Freeman (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Titans, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Freeman was claimed off waivers by Houston on Nov. 9, joining his third team this season. The Texans were on a bye during Week 10, so the matchup against Tennessee would've been his first chance to suit up for Houston. However, he apparently isn't ready for game action, which means David Johnson, Rex Burkhead and Phillip Lindsay will continue to share the workload against the Titans on Sunday.

Freeman was claimed off waivers by the Texans on Tuesday.
Analysis: The six-foot, 238-pound back will move on to his third team this year, having joined the Panthers prior to Week 1 after being cut by Denver. Freeman was buried on the depth chart in Carolina and was unable to find much work even while top back Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) was sidelined for multiple weeks, managing 21 carries for 77 yards and three catches for 15 yards in eight appearances for the team. Let go by Carolina
The Panthers waived Freeman on Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
Analysis: With top back Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) returning from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's loss to the Patriots, Freeman dropped to fourth on the depth chart and was relegated to special-teams work Week 10. Over eight games with Carolina this season, the fourth-year back carried 21 times for 77 yards (3.7 average) and hauled in three of six targets for 15 yards.

Not available Sunday
Freeman (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Patriots, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official website reports.
Analysis: Christian McCaffrey is active for Sunday's contest, which leaves Freeman as the odd man out in the Panthers' running back room. McCaffrey is expected to be on a snap count, so Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah will be the primary backups Sunday.

Gets six carries
Freeman rushed six times for 25 yards in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Freeman was efficient with his opportunities but saw recent signing Ameer Abdullah take on a larger role than him, as Abdullah garnered 11 touches in his Carolina debut. Chuba Hubbard commanded 25 touches as the starter, so it was a busy backfield for the Panthers. However, with Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) reportedly on track to return in Week 9 versus the Patriots, Freeman and company should all see their respective roles reduced.

Garners four touches
Freeman rushed three times for 18 yards and caught one of two targets for one yard in Sunday's 25-3 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Freeman played five fewer offensive snaps than starting tailback Chuba Hubbard, but his mere four touches paled in comparison to the rookie's 16. Freeman has yet to garner more than six touches in a game this season, so although star Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) will still be sidelined in Week 8 versus the Falcons, Freeman remains without much fantasy value.

Just one touch
Freeman rushed once for three yards in Sunday's 34-28 overtime loss against the Vikings.
Analysis: Freeman played nearly a third of Carolina's offensive snaps but was only given the ball once. Conversely, rookie Chuba Hubbard finished with 16 rushes for 61 yards and a touchdown, and hauled in a four-yard pass as well. Although star tailback Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) being on IR should keep Freeman in the gameday backfield rotation, it's clear that his usage will pale in comparison to Hubbard's, who has been trusted with a starter's workload the past couple weeks.

Limited usage Sunday
Freeman rushed three times for two yards and caught one of two targets for six yards in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: Freeman's first touch came on Carolina's opening drive, but the veteran was incorporated sparingly with rookie Chuba Hubbard going for over 130 scrimmage yards on his 29 touches. Overall, Freeman played 20 percent of the offensive snaps compared to Hubbard's 65 percent. With Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) seemingly likely to return in Week 6 versus the Vikings, both Freeman and Hubbard could see their respective roles reduced, but unlike Freeman, Hubbard showed enough Sunday to potentially…read more

Analysis: Freeman was listed as Carolina's second option at tailback with Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) sidelined, but that role still didn't offer him much usage. Overall, the veteran played just 12 offensive snaps, trailing both starter Chuba Hubbard (33 snaps) and fellow reserve Rodney Smith (26 snaps), who saw passing-down work in the second half with Carolina in catch-up mode. Slated for top backup role Week 4
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said Freeman will serve as the top backup to starting running back Chuba Hubbard in Sunday's game in Dallas, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) expected to miss several weeks, Hubbard and Freeman will both temporarily bump up a spot on the depth chart. Following McCaffrey's early exit in the Panthers' Week 3 win over the Texans, Hubbard finished the night with a 39-10 edge over Freeman in terms of snaps, with the latter carrying five times for 17 yards and catching one ball for eight yards. Freeman rushed five times for 17 yards and caught his only target for eight yards in Thursday night's 24-9 win over the Texans.
Analysis: Freeman hardly saw the field on offense in his first two games with the Panthers, but after superstar tailback Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) exited in the second quarter Thursday, Carolina's recent signing suddenly was forced into the fray. No offensive snaps
Freeman did not play an offensive snap in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Freeman has only been with the Panthers for just over a week, so he was restricted to special-teams duty, playing four snaps overall. With superstar Christian McCaffrey leading the charge, Carolina rarely calls upon its backup tailbacks, and rookie fourth-rounder Chuba Hubbard currently sits atop Freeman on the depth chart anyway. Analysis: In a corresponding move, the Panthers waived fellow running back Trenton Cannon. Freeman carried the ball five times for 33 yards, while also catching both of his targets for 14 yards in Saturday's 33-6 win over Minnesota.
Analysis: Freeman was active with limited touches in both the rushing and passing game. Could be busy Saturday
Freeman could see plenty of work in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings once Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams are done for the day, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Whereas Freeman had potentially been on the roster bubble, he's now looking at starting the coming season as Denver's No. 3 back, with Mike Boone on track to miss time early due to a quad injury. That's an assignment with limited fantasy utility; however, if either Williams or Gordon misses time for any reason, Freeman could subsequently emerge as a factor in deeper formats.

Could be done in Denver
Freeman is on the roster bubble after Denver added running backs Javonte Williams and Mike Boone in the offseason, ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold reports.
Analysis: Williams was a second-round draft pick, and Boone signed a two-year contract that includes $2.6 million guaranteed. Even if the latter move was more about special teams than offense, it gives Boone a level of security that Freeman doesn't have. Freeman has averaged only 4.0 yards per carry and 5.9 yards per catch in 46 games for the Broncos, failing to meet expectations after coming off the board 71st overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. Picks up three touches
Freeman ran for 21 yards on two carries and added a one-yard catch during Sunday's 32-31 loss to Las Vegas.
Analysis: Freeman set up the Broncos' first touchdown late in the first quarter, rumbling for 20 yards to bring Denver into Las Vegas territory. Still, perhaps still bothered by a nagging hip, he garnered just two touches to Melvin Gordon's 30. The third-year back often was lost in the shuffle this season as Gordon took Freeman's role as the passing-game back. Absent a shake-up in the offseason, a similar role likely awaits Freeman in 2021.

It didn't work out that way as Freeman still was visibly bothered by his own hip, leaving four touches for rookie LeVante Bellamy. Analysis: The 24-year-old picked up the hip injury during last week's loss to the Bills, but he'll have a chance to take the field Sunday. If capable of overcoming the issue to make an appearance Week 16, Freeman would remain without a missed game since the start of last season. The Broncos tried to dial up a goal-line touchdown run for Freeman on the subsequent play, but he was stopped for no gain before Melvin Gordon eventually punched in Denver's second TD of the night. Phillip Lindsay is set to undergo an MRI on what is believed to be a mild case of turf toe developed during Monday's game, but if he is inactive or limited Week 2, Freeman may see an uptick in usage against a Steelers…read more

Looking at roster bubble?
Freeman may need to fend off competition for the Broncos' No. 3 running back job, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: A third-round pick two years ago, Freeman has been thoroughly unimpressive to this point in his pro career, averaging 3.9 yards on 262 carries and 5.8 yards on 57 receptions. The Broncos gave a vote of no confidence to Freeman when they added Melvin Gordon to a backfield that already had Phillip Lindsay, potentially leaving the Oregon product to duke it out with Khalfani Muhammad and undrafted rookie LeVante Bellamy for the third spot on the depth chart. The team kept three running backs on its…read more

Supplanted by Gordon
The acquisition of Melvin Gordon leaves Freeman on the outside looking in at Denver's 1-2 punch of Gordon and Phillip Lindsay, Sean Keeler of The Denver Post reports.
Analysis: There were whispers that Denver was looking for an upgrade over Freeman in free agency, but the investment in Gordon is even more than expected. Freeman hasn't lived up to his billing as a big, savvy bell-cow back, averaging just 3.9 yards per carry in two seasons. His uber-efficient 2018 season aside, Gordon has averaged just 3.80 yards per carry during his career, but he's a more dynamic receiver and has at least shown the ability to be a big-time runner in spurts. Gordon's contract leaves…read more

Finishes second on team in catches
Freeman finished the 2019 campaign with 496 yards and three touchdowns on 132 carries and 43 catches on 50 targets for 256 yards and a touchdown.
Analysis: Freeman's 2019 output was similar to that of his rookie season. He averaged 47.0 yards per game as compared to 42.4 as a rookie and 4.3 yards per touch in 2019 as compared to 4.2 in 2018. What changed was how he was gaining yards. Freeman averaged 2.7 catches per game in 2019, up from 1.0 as a rookie. His 43 receptions placed him behind only Courtland Sutton for the team lead. He tallied four or more catches seven times during the season, though five of those were with Joe Flacco under center.…read more

Accounts for one of two rushing TDs
Freeman ran for 28 yards and a touchdown on nine carries and caught both of his targets for nine receiving yards during Sunday's 27-17 win against the Lions.
Analysis: The record-setting back out of Oregon has eclipsed 35 rushing yards just once since Week 5, but Sunday he broke a skid of six consecutive games without a rushing TD. Freeman was much more involved over the first half of the year in comparison to his current role, as he racked up 11 carries and 3.3 receptions per game between Weeks 1 and 8. Since Week 9, however, the 23-year-old Freeman has been afforded just 9.8 offensive touches per game while failing to exceed 14 receiving yards in any…read more

Limited to 26 yards
Freeman ran for 12 yards on five carries and added 14 yards on four catches during Sunday's 23-3 loss in Kansas City.
Analysis: Freeman, and the Denver ground game more generally, were extremely limited during Sunday's loss. Head coach Vic Fangio told reporters Monday that the poor production was the result of poor blocking, some missed opportunities by the backs, and the Broncos digging themselves into an early hole. It was more of the same for Freeman, who has been held under 30 yards in four of his last six contests. He scored just once during that span. He's a hard back on which to rely, but his receiving ability…read more

First career receiving TD
Freeman rushed eight times for 24 yards and caught both of his targets for eight yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Texans.
Analysis: The highlight of Freeman's day was a three-yard receiving touchdown in the final minute of the first half. That was his first career receiving score, though Freeman has emerged as a reliable receiver out of the backfield with 36 catches this season. He has averaged only 7.6 touches per game over the past five after reaching double digits in each of the first eight.

Practicing fully
Freeman (ribs) practiced fully Thursday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Freeman -- who logged five carries for 11 yards and caught all four of his targets for an additional 13 yards last weekend -- is thus good to go for Sunday's game against the Texans, but he's only an option in deeper fantasy formats these days, with his touches down over his last four outings and Phillip Lindsay having handled the bulk of the team's backfield work in that span.

Nursing rib injury
Freeman was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a rib injury, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Freeman may have picked up the injury in the Broncos' Week 13 win over the Chargers, but there's little reason to worry yet that he'll miss Sunday's game against the Texans. The second-year back has been held under 30 scrimmage yards in four straight games and hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 8.

Totals 24 scrimmage yards
Freeman carried five times for 11 yards and caught all four of his targets for an additional 13 yards during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: Freeman averaged just 2.2 yards per carry, and, although he received the third-most targets on the team, he finished with a meager 3.3 yards per catch. His long carry went for just five yards as he was held under 30 scrimmage yards for the third time in the last four games. Freeman's ability to make an impact in his current role is in serious question at the moment and he'll look to do more with his opportunities next Sunday against the Texans.

Continues decline
Freeman ran for 20 yards on two carries and added nine yards on two receptions during Sunday's 20-3 loss in Buffalo.
Analysis: Freeman's four touches marked a season low and his 29 total yards were his second lowest total of the season. The lack of usage is especially surprising as he led Denver running backs with 28 offensive snaps, totaling 56 percent of the team's plays. Part of that can be attributed to Freeman's role as a third-down pass-blocking back, but Freeman's steady decline is still surprising. After totaling double-digit touches in each of the first three games of the season, he hasn't reached 10 in any of…read more

Picks up 45 yards in loss
Freeman ran for 31 yards on eight carries and added a 14-yard catch during Sunday's 27-23 loss in Minnesota.
Analysis: Freeman kept the Broncos alive late in the fourth quarter, taking a swing pass on third and long and juking his defender on his way to a 14-yard gain and first down. The play itself was encouraging, but fantasy managers would be justified in being concerned that Freeman was kept to single-digit touches for the second consecutive game after at logging at least 10 in the first eight contests of 2019. Even with Phillip Lindsay playing well, it's somewhat of a surprise that Freeman hasn't been more…read more

May cede more work to Lindsay
Freeman is excepted to handle a smaller role than normal out of the backfield Sunday against the Vikings with the Broncos planning to feature Phillip Lindsay more prominently, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Denver has deployed a fairly even distribution of the workload between Freeman and Lindsay all season, with the latter playing between 40 and 56 percent of the offensive snaps and topping out at 25 touches and the former handling snap shares between 47 and 63 percent and maxing out at 19 touches. Freeman (4.0 yards per carry) has been far less efficient on the ground than Lindsay (4.9 YPC), however, which could provide an explanation behind the Broncos' supposed plan to feature the Lindsay more…read more

Quiet in win over Browns
Freeman carried the ball five times for 15 yards and caught his only target for minus-1 yard in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Browns.
Analysis: The second-year RB mostly took a back seat to Phillip Lindsay in this one, as the latter's 30-yard TD run in the third quarter ended up being the winning score for Denver. The 14 scrimmage yards were Freeman's lowest output of the year -- he hadn't produced less than 45 coming into Sunday -- and with the team's bye on tap in Week 10, Freeman's role could be in flux coming out the other side if Lindsay's wrist injury heals enough to allow him to handle pass-protection duties again.
