Won't play in 2024
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Hines (knee) won't be activated from the reserve/non-football injury list and will remain sidelined for the rest of the 2024 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hines resumed practicing Oct 2, but with his 21-day evaluation window officially coming to an end Wednesday, the Browns didn't have a spot available for him on the 53-man roster. The running back had been working his way back from a torn ACL suffered in July 2023, and though Hines experienced no reported setbacks since he resumed practicing, the Browns already had four other backs on the roster and weren't willing to clear room for him. Though Hines will remain on the NFI list for now, he would…read more

Won't play vs. Ravens
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Hines (knee) is out for Week 8 versus Baltimore, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hines participated fully in practice ahead of Week 7 but ultimately didn't suit up for that contest either, so it's possible injury alone can't fully explain why he isn't active yet. After the long-awaited return of starter Nick Chubb, the Browns now already have four running backs on their active roster, so even if Hines works his way back into the mix soon, he won't be on the fantasy radar for most formats.

Not activated for Week 7
Hines (knee) was not activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Bengals, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Hines was a full participant in all three practices this week, but he will remain sidelined while in the final stages of his recovery from a torn ACL he suffered in July of 2023. Because his practice window opened Oct. 2, the Browns will need to activate Hines off injured reserve by Wednesday, otherwise he will remain on IR for the rest of the 2024 season. Even without Hines and Jerome Ford (hamstring) for Sunday's game, the Browns are expecting Nick Chubb (knee) to be active, and he will lead…read more

Not likely to play this week
Hines (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Analysis: Hines, who remains on the reserve/non-football injury list, practiced fully this week, but Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com relays that coach Kevin Stefanski noted Friday that Hines is unlikely to play this weekend. With Jerome Ford out with a hamstring injury, Nick Chubb (reserve/PUP, knee) is expected to return to action Sunday, joining a Cleveland backfield that also includes D'Onta Foreman (groin) and Pierre Strong.

Could return in Week 7
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Hines (knee) is doing "very well" and could be activated from the non-football injury list ahead of Sunday's game against the Bengals, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hines has yet to play this season while he continues to recover from the torn ACL in his left knee that he suffered last summer. However, he was cleared to resume practicing Oct. 2 and seems to have responded well to taking reps over the past couple of weeks. The Browns will likely wait and see if Hines can upgrade to full participation in practice this week before making a ruling on his status for Sunday.

Sidelined another week
Hines (knee) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's Week 6 matchup against the Eagles, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hines was designated to return from Cleveland's non-football injury list on Oct. 2 and has been practicing in a limited fashion since. However, it appears the veteran running back is still not ready for in-game action just yet. Expect D'Onta Foreman (ankle) and Pierre Strong (hamstring) to serve as the Browns' top backup running backs behind Jerome Ford in Week 6.

Won't play Week 5
Hines (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Washington, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Analysis: Hines remains on the reserve/NFI list but had his 21-day practice window opened this week. He'll have a couple more weeks to get ready. With Nick Chubb (knee, PUP) still working his way back, the Browns will continue to roll with Jerome Ford and D'Onta Foreman for at least one more week.

Limited Thursday
Hines (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Hines, who was designated to return from the non-football injury list earlier this week, was limited for a second consecutive day. It's unlikely he'll be ready to go for Sunday's road game against the Commanders.

Puts in limited practice
Hines (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: The Browns received a jolt Wednesday with both Hines and Nick Chubb (knee) back on the practice field. It's unclear if either running back will be ready to help the league's 26th-ranked rushing offense (94.8 yards per game) in time for Sunday's game against Washington, but the presence of Hines and Chubb at practice can be taken as a positive sign. In addition to Hines and Chubb, Pierre Strong (hamstring) was back on the field Wednesday.

Returning to practice
The Browns designated Hines (knee) for a return to practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Hines is finally ready to practice again after completing his recovery from an ACL tear, which he suffered in a jet ski accident in the summer of 2023. Considering the extensive time that he's missed, Hines will likely need close to the full 21-day practice evaluation window before the Browns bring him back from the non-football injury list. Hines shouldn't be expected to play this Sunday against the Commanders.

Getting close to return
Hines (knee) is expected to be designated to return from the non-football injury list this week, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Hines has been out of action since the summer of 2023 when he suffered an ACL tear after being hit by a jet ski. However, upon his imminent designation for return, he'll be able to return to the practice field. Considering the time the NC State product has missed, it's highly unlikely he would play as soon as Sunday against the Commanders, but he'll be able to continue getting back up to speed with the team for up to 21 days before a decision on whether to activate him to the 53-man roster has…read more

Out until at least Week 5
Hines (knee) will open the regular season on the non-football injury list and miss a minimum of four games, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Analysis: Hines suffered an ACL tear last July when he was struck by a jet ski, costing him all of the 2023 season and now part of 2024. It's unclear if he'll have a significant role once he's deemed healthy enough to play, but there's at least some chance he eventually becomes a pass-catching option and return man for the Browns this year. Hines hasn't practiced this summer and won't be eligible to play any sooner than Oct. 6 against Washington.

Progressing through recovery
Hines is making progress in recovering from the ACL injury that kept him out for the entire 2023 season, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
Analysis: Hines hasn't suited up for game action since the 2022 season, and there's still no concrete timetable for his return. But Coach Kevin Stefanski struck an optimistic tone Tuesday, saying, "He's doing well and progressing well." Even when he's at 100 percent though, he'll have to fight to earn a spot on Cleveland's running back depth chart.

Placed on NFI list
The Browns placed Hines (knee) on the active/non-football injury list Wednesday.
Analysis: Hines said earlier this offseason that he anticipated being ready for training camp, so it's possible he won't spend much time on the NFI list before passing his physical. The pass-catching specialist is working his way back from a left ACL tear suffered last August, and once healthy, he'll compete for a role as a return man and third-down back. Nick Chubb (knee) started camp on the active/PUP list and remains without a timetable for return, so Hines could have a real opportunity alongside…read more

Plans to be ready for camp
Hines (knee) said Tuesday he expects to be available for the start of training camp, Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland reports.
Analysis: Hines underwent surgery to repair his left ACL last August, then was released by the Bills in March after missing the entire 2023 season. Assuming he's indeed healthy by the start of training camp, Hines should compete for third-down snaps in the backfield and return work on special teams. Joining Cleveland backfield
Hines (knee) is slated to sign a one-year deal with the Browns, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The report indicates that Hines' deal is worth up to $3.5 million. The 27-year-old is attempting to bounce back from a left ACL injury that he sustained last July and which cost him the entire 2023 season. When healthy, Hines should provide the Browns backfield with an experienced pass-catching/change-of-pace option while also adding utility as a kick returner.

Let go by Buffalo
The Bills released Hines (knee) on Wednesday with a non-football injury designation.
Analysis: Adam Schefter of ESPN previously noted that Hines, who suffered a torn ACL last July and missed the entire 2023 season, will likely be ready to take the field by training camp. Assuming he experiences no setbacks as he finishes up his recovery from knee surgery, Hines should get the chance to compete for a change-of-pace role out of the backfield with another team in 2024.

The Bills plan to release Hines (knee) during the upcoming week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Though Hines is expected to attain full medical clearance ahead of training camp while he nears the finish line in his recovery from the ACL reconstruction surgery he required last August, he'll have to find work elsewhere while Buffalo looks to utilize his 90-man offseason roster spot on another player. Hines had ACL reconstruction surgery Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hines' surgery was inevitable after he suffered the injury in a jet ski accident in July. Although he has not officially been placed on injured reserve as of yet, that will likely be his next destination, as he has already been declared out for the 2023 campaign. He'll now work toward getting healthy to make a return in 2024.

Officially placed on reserve/NFI
The Bills placed Hines (knee) on the reserve/non-football injury list Tuesday.
Analysis: Hines was injured in a jet ski accident last weekend and is expected to miss the season after suffering an ACL injury. It's a horrible break for Hines. In the wake of the injury, the Bills have signed veteran RB Darrynton Evans to compete for a job behind James Cook, Damien Harris and Latavius Murray.

Injures left ACL
Hines sustained an injury to his left ACL when he was struck by a jet ski this weekend while away from the Bills' facility, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Hines, who is expected to miss the coming season, is likely to have surgery to repair his knee sometime this week. Getzenberg adds that the expectation and goal is for the running back to return to the field for the 2024 campaign. Prior to his injury, Hines had been in line to compete for change-of-pace touches in Buffalo's backfield as well as serve as a key returner for the team. Needs season-ending surgery
Hines (knee) will undergo season-ending surgery to address an injury suffered as the result of being struck by another rider while stationary on a jet ski, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hines' injuries are reportedly serious, but not life-threatening. He will be required to miss the entire 2023 season and work to rehab for the 2024 campaign, for which he is also under contract with Buffalo. However, Hines carries a low dead-cap salary number for the 2024 season, and he might need to consider a restructure once back to full health. Suffers significant knee injury
Hines (knee) suffered a significant injury away from the Bills' training facilities and is expected to miss the entire 2023 campaign, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hines joined Buffalo at the trade deadline last season and was expected to contribute as a versatile depth or change-of-pace option in 2023, but it appears that the 26-year-old will instead be shut down for the year. Further tests should confirm the severity of Hines' injury shortly, but the timing is particularly brutal, as, in 2022, he had to operate without full command of the playbook. Role in offense TBD
Hines figures to continue to make an impact as a kick/punt returner this coming season, Ryan O'Halloran of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: As training camp approaches, however, Hines' volume in the Bills offense is difficult to project, given that the team's backfield also includes James Cook, Damien Harris and Latavius Murray. After heading to Buffalo in a trade with the Colts last November, Hines logged just six carries and five catches in nine games, but now that he's more up to speed with the playbook, the 26-year-old does have the ability to contribute more in 2023, both as a pass catcher or change-of-pace option. Makes biggest mark on special teams
Between seven regular-season starts with the Colts and nine with the Bills, Hines rushed 24 times for 33 yards and one TD while posting a 30-241-1 line in the passing game during the 2022 season.
Analysis: Hines made a bigger mark in the return game, especially in his time with the Bills following the trade for Zack Moss, finishing with 554 yards on kickoff returns and a 29.0 average to go with 264 punt return yards and a 9.8 average. Hines also returned two kickoffs for scores in a memorable game during the Bills' first contest following the Damar Hamlin incident. Returns two kicks for touchdowns
Hines scored two touchdowns and accounted for 241 all-purpose yards in Sunday's 35-23 victory over the Patriots.
Analysis: Hines staked the Bills to an early 7-0 lead, bringing back the opening kickoff for a 96-yard score. The 26-year-old later returned another kickoff for a 101-yard score in third quarter, putting Buffalo back on top 21-17 after the team had just fallen behind for the first time in the game. Maintains limited role
Hines carried once for three yards and recorded a four-yard reception in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Jets.
Analysis: After logging 21 snaps a week earlier in the Bills' 14-point win over the Patriots, Hines saw his playing time drop off a bit in a more competitive Week 14 contest. He took the field for nine snaps on offense, well behind starter Devin Singletary (27) and ascending rookie James Cook (22). Though Cook was held to 15 total yards on five touches against the Jets, his strong performances in recent weeks should be enough to keep him ahead of Hines on the depth chart for the foreseeable future.

Back at practice following illness
Hines (illness) returned to practice Monday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hines was one of numerous Bills players that were sidelined for Sunday's team workout due to an illness following their narrow win over the Lions on Thanksgiving Day. However, the running back was back in the mix Monday and doesn't appear to be in any danger of missing Thursday's matchup against New England. Regardless, since joining Buffalo at the trade deadline, Hines has rushed twice for negative five yards and failed to haul in his only target, though he has emerged as a solid return man.

Hines isn't participating during the Bills' team workout Sunday due to an illness, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Following the Bills' Thanksgiving Day win over the Lions, Hines is one of several Bills players who is sitting out the unofficial Sunday practice session due to an illness. The severity of Hines' ailment isn't known, but he'll at least have a few days to move past the illness before the Bills return to action with another Thursday game Week 13 versus the Patriots. One carry on Thanksgiving
Hines rushed once for three yards in Thursday's 28-25 win over the Lions.
Analysis: Hines finished fifth on the team in carries, trailing fellow running backs Devin Singletary (14) and James Cook (two) as well as quarterback Josh Allen (10) and wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie (two). Buffalo seems to have traded for Hines primarily due to his special teams prowess rather than to use him on offense; Hines added a 26-yard kickoff return in the Thanksgiving Day win.

Mostly limited to return duties
Hines rushed once for negative-8 yards and did not bring in his only target in the Bills' Week 11 win over the Browns in Detroit. He also gained 37 yards on two punt returns and 76 yards on three kickoff returns.
Analysis: Hines made an impact as a kick returner in the contest, but that doesn't translate to production in most fantasy leagues. While the veteran running back did see a slight uptick in snaps (10) in comparison to his first two games with Buffalo, he generated negative fantasy points since his only carry resulted in an eight-yard loss. Low usage in Bills debut
Hines received just a handful of snaps on offense Sunday and did not record a catch or carry.
Analysis: Hines did have a nice punt return for 18 yards, but as expected he's not going to have a major role in the offense until he gets up to speed with his new system and playbook. While Hines should start to get more looks in the passing game, Josh Allen and Devin Singletary should continue to pick up the bulk of the carries.

Being eyed for punt returns
General manager Brandon Beane stated that Hines, acquired by the Bills at the trade deadline earlier this week, is expected to work in the punt return game Sunday against the Jets, Chris Brown of the Bills official site reports.
Analysis: It would have been nice if Beane spelled out what Hines is going to do in the actual offense, but for now we have to assume he's a co-No. 2 with rookie James Cook, with each player offering something valuable but not enough to hog up the playing time. Hines has more pass-catching experience than Cook or starter Devin Singletary, though neither of Hines' new teammates is a slouch in that area either. With Hines on board, though, the offense now has a steady receiving threat at running back. Totals 49 yards
Hines recorded five rushes for 20 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Commanders. He added two receptions for 29 yards.
Analysis: Hines saw a season-high five rushing attempts with Jonathan Taylor briefly sidelined by an ankle injury. The former was also surprisingly given a goal-line carry early in the fourth quarter with Taylor serving as his lead blocker on the play. Hines' other highlight came on an over-the-shoulder catch for 22 yards one possession earlier. Hines will remain involved in the offense moving forward, but barring an ongoing injury to Taylor, he is unlikely to see more than 10 touches regularly.

Involved as pass catcher
Hines tallied four rushes for two yards in Sunday's 19-10 loss to the Titans. He added five receptions on five targets for 41 yards.
Analysis: Hines returned from a one-game absence and immediately stepped back into his typical role as a change-of-pace back. He continued to be a non-factor as a rusher, as he now has 13 attempts for 16 yards on the season. Hines was more impressive as a pass catcher, with his longest reception of the day going for 14 yards. Set to play in Week 7

Hines has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol, per coach Frank Reich, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hines has cleared the final hurdle standing between him and suiting up Week 7 against the Titans after sitting out the Colts' previous game. Reich expressed optimism that both Hines and Jonathan Taylor (ankle) will return from their respective injuries Sunday, which would leave Hines in his usual change-of-pace role while potentially knocking Deon Jackson (quadriceps) out of the game plan on offense.

Hines (concussion) was listed as a full practice participant Thursday.
Analysis: The same applies to Jonathan Taylor (ankle) and Deon Jackson (quadriceps), suggesting that the Colts are trending toward having their top three backs available Sunday against the Titans. Though Hines appears to have reached the fifth stage of the concussion protocol, head coach Frank Reich told Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis that the running back still has one more step to clear, which is presumably getting the green light to play from an independent neurologist. Still limited at practice
Hines (concussion) remained limited at practice Thursday.
Analysis: Per Zak Keefer of The Athletic, Hines continued to practice in a red non-contact jersey Thursday, suggesting that the running back has yet to fully clear the NFL's concussion protocols. Friday's injury report will reveal whether Hines and/or top back Jonathan Taylor (ankle, limited) approach Sunday's game against the Jaguars with injury designations or cleared for Week 6 action.

Practices in non-contact jersey
Hines (concussion) practiced in a red non-contact jersey Wednesday, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Analysis: Hines will need to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol in order to suit up Sunday against the Jaguars. His Week 6 availability is of more interest than usual, given the uncertain status of top back Jonathan Taylor (ankle). Taylor was inactive for the Week 5 win over the Broncos and wasn't spotted practicing Wednesday. Hines was officially listed as limited at the Colts' first practice of the week.

Ruled out with concussion
Hines has been ruled out for the rest of Thursday's game against the Broncos due to a concussion, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Hines sustained the injury on the Colts' opening drive of the game and was immediately taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion. He will need to clear league protocols prior to returning to action, which could occur for a Week 6 matchup against Jacksonville. Deon Jackson and Phillip Lindsay will take over the work in the backfield.

Hines exited Thursday's game against the Broncos to be evaluated for a concussion and is questionable to return, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hines made a catch out of the backfield on the Colts' opening drive and had trouble regaining his footing. He was spotted going into the locker room to be evaluated for a head injury so his status for the remainder of Thursday's game is in question. Deon Jackson and Phillip Lindsay should see additional run so long as Hines remains sidelined.

Should see added work Thursday
Hines and Phillip Lindsay are expected to lead the Colts' rushing corps Thursday against the Broncos with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) ruled out for the Week 5 contest, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: Hines, who has logged eight carries and 17 catches through his first four games, represents an alternative option to those who roster Taylor or are looking for some short-term backfield depth. Meanwhile, Lindsay will likely be elevated from the Colts' practice squad ahead of Thursday's contest and could also factor in Thursday. Deon Jackson is on hand as another depth option in the backfield.

Minimal role in loss
Hines caught both of his targets for three yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Titans. He added one rushing attempt for zero yards.
Analysis: Hines' lack of involvement on the ground was nothing new, as he has yet to earn more than three carries in any game this season. However, his production as a pass catcher was a significant downturn as he entered Sunday having logged at least four catches and 20 receiving yards in all three of his previous games. Those numbers could increase in short order if Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is sidelined for Thursday's matchup at the Broncos, as Hines would likely serve as the Colts' lead back in that…read more

Five catches in Week 3 win
Hines rushed three times for seven yards and caught five of six targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Chiefs.
Analysis: Hines gets most of his touches on checkdowns and designed short passes, giving him more value in PPR formats. He has seen consistent volume over the first three games, with either five or six targets in each one. However, he's not getting the kind of larger usage that the coaching staff forecast in the preseason. Hines and the Colts will host the Titans in Week 4.

Tallies four catches
Hines recorded four receptions on five targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: Hines started the game hot, as he tallied two receptions on three targets for 23 yards on the opening drive. However, his production -- as well as the Colts' entire offense -- sputtered from there and his lack of involvement as a rusher cost him the chance for a more productive performance. Hines played just 15 snaps on offense which is puzzling since the Colts were missing their top two receivers and the Colts fell behind early. Hines had three carries for four yards and six receptions for 50 yards on six targets in Sunday's tie at Houston.
Analysis: Hines played on 26 of the offense's 92 snaps while Jonathan Taylor played on 70 snaps. The Colts played from far behind much of the game, so Hines was involved in the passing game. However, the Indianapolis coaching staff's desire to reduce Taylor's workload and get Hines more involved in the offense didn't exactly work out as planned. Not in line to play Saturday
Hines is slated to be held of of Saturday's preseason finale against the Buccaneers, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The same applies to top running back Jonathan Taylor, with Hines, who is entrenched as the team's top change-of-pace option, thus slated to shift his focus to readying for a key complementary role in the Colts backfield this coming season. While the top of the team's RB depth chart is settled, Phillip Lindsay, Ty'Son Williams, Deon Jackson and D'Vonte Price will have opportunities Saturday to make their cases to secure roster spots behind Taylor and Hines.

Gets start in preseason opener
Hines got the start at running back with Jonathan Taylor sitting out and had eight carries for 26 yards and two receptions for 13 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: The Colts plan to hold out Taylor from preseason games to play it safe, so Hines got the starting nod. The offense overall was sluggish, meaning it's difficult to read too much into Hines' performance, other that it could be an indication that the coaching staff plans to follow through on talk this summer that he'll get more touches. The Colts expect Hines to catch 60 or more passes this season, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Teams often try to raise a player's real-life trade value by exaggerating expectations, but in this case, the Colts seemingly want to pump up Hines' fantasy ADP. Head coach Frank Reich said in May that he would pick Hines if he were playing in a fantasy league this year, a not-so-subtle hint that the team has more in mind for the 26-year-old than last year's 56 carries and 57 targets. Colts working to find him touches
Hines saw some action in the slot during Wednesday's OTA practice as the Colts are working to increase his role without taking carries away from Jonathan Taylor, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports. "If I was going to be in a fantasy league, I think I'd pick Nyheim this year," said head coach Frank Reich.
Analysis: Hines' catch and target totals last year while working with QB Carson Wentz represented career lows. His lack of usage has been blamed on Wentz not looking for Hines enough while holding out for longer completions, but it may also have been a byproduct of Taylor becoming the team's near every down running back. Per JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site, the notion of Hines seeing more work out of the slot has been echoed by GM Chris Ballard, while coach Frank Reich has also suggested that the team will look to find ways to get the ball into the hands of the 2018 fourth-rounder more often.…read more

Six touches in loss
Hines had two carries for four yards and four receptions for 14 yards on four targets in Sunday's 23-20 loss to Las Vegas.
Analysis: Hines had the most touches he's had in three games, and it's just the second time he's had six or more since Week 9. That says more about how little Hines has been used in the second half of the season than any change in his workload. Hines will continue to have a minimal workload as long as Jonathan Taylor remains healthy.

Another sparse outing
Hines recorded three carries for 11 yards, one catch (on one target) for seven yards and one kick return for 16 yards during Saturday's 22-16 win at Arizona.
Analysis: Per usual, Jonathan Taylor dominated the Colts backfield, compiling 27 carries and going without a catch on two targets. In 13 contests prior to the team's bye week, Hines averaged 6.4 touches per game, but he's totaled just five touches in two outings since then. Considering the negligible recent workload, it's tough to rely on much, if any, production from Hines during the stretch run of the season.

Hines caught one of two targets for a six-yard touchdown in Saturday's 27-17 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: He opened the scoring late in the first quarter on a trick play by the Colts, as Jonathan Taylor took a direct snap and handed it to Carson Wentz, who then shoveled it to Hines to take into the end zone behind a convoy of blockers that included Taylor. Hines rushed three times for 24 yards and caught three of four targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Texans.
Analysis: Hines was efficient with his six touches, which included a game-long catch of 24 yards. That play helped him finish second on the Colts in receiving, but he watched fellow tailback Deon Jackson score a three-yard touchdown to end the game, missing out on an easy opportunity to add to his output. Analysis: Although Hines' 25 offensive snaps Sunday marked his highest snap count since Week 9, he was unable to generate significant production against the stingy Tampa Bay defense. The 25-year-old topped 100 yards from scrimmage against the Jets in Week 9 but has had just seven carries for 46 yards while securing five of eight targets for 43 yards since then. Just four carries in win
Hines had four carries for 31 yards in Sunday's win at Buffalo.
Analysis: Hines played just 13 snaps on offense as he's had a smaller role in the offense then last season with Jonathan Taylor continuing to get more work (32 carries Sunday, and 17 targets over the last four games). Hines may have a week where he figures more prominently in the game plan as he did in Week 9 (108 scrimmage yards), but it's hard to see those coming and he otherwise isn't a major factor if Taylor is healthy.

Just four touches Sunday
Hines had two carries for 12 yards and two receptions for 17 yards on four targets in Sunday's 23-17 win over Jacksonville.
Analysis: After a big game last week against the Jets (a TD and 108 total yards), Hines was back to his more modest role in the offense. He played on just 18 of the offense's 64 snaps as Jonathan Taylor had a season-high 21 carries. Hines rushed six times for 74 yards and a touchdown, secured four of six targets for 34 yards, returned one punt for 10 yards and ran back one kickoff for 15 yards in the Colts' 45-30 win over the Jets on Thursday night.
Analysis: Hines opened the scoring on the night with an impressive 34-yard scamper in the first quarter -- only his second touchdown of the season -- and he remained highly efficient by averaging eight yards per carry on his other five totes as well. Hines also recorded multiple grabs for the second straight game and fifth time overall this season, setting him up well for a favorable Week 10 matchup against the Jaguars a week from Sunday.

Analysis: Hines played on 25 of the offense's 80 snaps despite being limited in practice last week due to a rib injury. He was tied for third on the team in targets, but continues to have a limited role in the offense, as he hasn't had a game with more than 10 touches since Week 3.

Hines practiced in full Thursday, clearing any concerns over his ability to play Sunday against the Titans.
Analysis: The running back was dealing with a rib injury to open the week, limiting his participation on Wednesday. He's now primed to play second fiddle to Jonathan Taylor again in Week 8. Listed as limited
The Colts listed Hines as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report due to an injury to his ribs.
Analysis: Top back Jonathan Taylor (ribs) was also listed as limited Wednesday, but so far there's nothing to suggest that either player is in danger of missing Sunday's game against the Titans. Hines is coming off a Week 7 effort in which he logged eight carries for 14 yards and one catch for minus-2 yards in the Colts' win over the 49ers. Given that his involvement in the team's passing game has been limited over the last four weeks, Hines profiles as a weak fantasy option versus Tennessee.

Hines had eight carries for 14 yards and lost two yards on two receptions on three targets in Sunday's 30-18 win at San Francisco.
Analysis: Hines had a bad drop on a pass that would have gone for 10-to-20 yards, which would have made his game look much better. He played on 19 of the offense's 68 snaps, which has been about his usual workload. However, he's just not a big part of a game plan unless the team is playing from far behind and is forced to throw as he hasn't had a game with more than 10 touches since Week 3.

Hines had four carries for 13 yards and one reception for nine yards on two targets in Sunday's win over Houston.
Analysis: Hines played on just 11 of the offense's 48 snaps as he wasn't needed in the passing game with the Colts having a large lead and with Jonathan Taylor running well (145 yards rushing). Meanwhile, Marlon Mack had five carries and played nine snaps. While he may get more work when the Colts are playing from behind, it's worrisome he's had such little involvement the past three weeks (12 touches the last three games) while Mack has become more involved.

Hines was hindered by a sore shoulder in practice, but it doesn't sound like the injury was a factor in his workload. Cleared for MNF
Hines (shoulder) doesn't carry an injury designation for Monday night's game against the Ravens after being listed as a full practice participant Saturday.
Analysis: Now that he's cleared for Week 5 action, Hines will continue to work in a change-of-pace role behind Indy's top back Jonathan Taylor. It's an assignment that has led to hit-or-miss fantasy production for Hines out of the gate. In the Colts' Week 4 win over the Dolphins, Hines logged two carries for six yards and two catches for five yards on two targets. Looking ahead, Hines figures to be more involved in games where the team needs to throw more, which keeps the 24-year-old on the PPR radar.

Analysis: Hines played a season-low 22 snaps on offense and went out on just 11 routes. He got less playing time because the Colts were running the ball effectively with Taylor (103 yards on 16 carries) and playing with a lead. Hines will be more active when Indy needs to throw the ball more.

Collects 67 total yards in win
Hines rushed twice for 17 yards and secured six of seven targets for 50 yards in the Colts' 28-14 win over the Jaguars on Sunday. He also returned four punts for 40 yards.
Analysis: Hines was a complete afterthought in the ground game with Jonathan Taylor exploding for a career-high 253 yards and two touchdowns, but he paced the Colts in receptions and receiving yards in a game during which Indianapolis stuck to a conservative passing attack. Hines' carry total was his lowest since Week 9, but his reception total qualified as his second highest of the season. Totals 64 scrimmage yards
Hines carried eight times for 44 yards and caught all five of his targets for 20 additional yards during Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Hines averaged a healthy 5.5 yards per carry and snared every pass sent his way, but his inability to break off big plays limited his overall output. Although his 145 rushing yards over the last three games is by far his best stretch of the season, he's averaging just 16 receiving yards per game during the same timeframe. Hines could have plenty of chances to add to his numbers in next Sunday's regular-season finale against the hapless Jaguars.

Limited to seven touches
Hines rushed the ball five times for 43 yards in Week 15 against the Texans. He added two receptions for 11 yards.
Analysis: Hines played a complementary role to Jonathan Taylor, with much of his production coming on the team's first drive on a 23-yard run. He chipped in from there for the remainder of the game, including additional rushes of 11 and nine yards as well as a nine-yard reception. Hines will likely be in line for a complementary role once again in a Week 16 matchup against the Steelers.

Racks up 75 scrimmage yards
Hines carried seven times for 58 yards and caught all four of his targets for 17 additional yards during Sunday's 44-27 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Hines gashed the Las Vegas defense for 8.3 yards per carry but saw his attempts limited as Jonathan Taylor rumbled for 150 yards on 20 carries of his own. He finished third on the team in targets and hauled in every pass thrown his way, but his long gain in that department went for just six yards as he finished with his lowest receiving output since Week 4. Still, Hines has been productive while averaging 13 touches per game over the last four and should have a great chance to pad his stats…read more

Scores seventh touchdown
Hines carried six times for 10 yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for 22 additional yards during Sunday's 26-20 win over the Texans.
Analysis: Hines managed just 1.7 yards per carry but found his way into the end zone from five yards out in the first quarter for his seventh touchdown of the season. He caught every ball thrown his way but simply wasn't utilized enough in that regard to make an impact, since his team played from ahead most of the day. Meanwhile, rookie Jonathan Taylor enjoyed another strong performance and should receive the bulk of the backfield work in next Sunday's matchup against the Raiders, though Hines enters the…read more

Tallies eight receptions
Hines rushed the ball 10 times for 29 yards in Week 12 against the Titans. He added eight receptions on 10 targets for 66 yards.
Analysis: Hines carried the ball four times on the Colts' first offensive possession in the absence of Jonathan Taylor (illness), racking up 12 yards in the process. The majority of his production thereafter was dictated by game script, as the Colts faced a large deficit from the middle of the second quarter onward. That allowed Hines to rack up season-high target and catch totals, highlighted by gains of 19 and 10 yards. Though the Colts aren't likely to face a big deficit against Houston in Week 13,…read more

Gets start at RB
Hines will get the start at running back in Sunday's game against Tennessee, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Colts are expected to divide the workload at running back between Hines and Jordan Wilkins with Jonathan Taylor out, but Hines will get the start. Hines was listed as the starter last week as well, but Taylor got the larger workload, so the starter designation may not be too indicative of fantasy output.

Can't follow up big performance
Hines recorded six rushes for two yards in Week 11 against the Packers. He added three receptions for 31 yards.
Analysis: Hines recorded 115 total yards in Week 10 and worked as the lead back early on against the Packers as a result. However, he could not carry over his efficiency and was regularly stuffed behind the line on his rushing attempts. Hines did remain involved as a pass-catcher and had a six-yard receiving score nullified by a holding penalty. Shines as lead back in win
Hines rushed 12 times for 70 yards and a touchdown and brought in five of six targets for 45 yards and another score in the Colts' 34-17 win over the Titans on Thursday night.
Analysis: Hines outpaced backfield mates Jordan Wilkins and Jonathan Taylor by four and five carries, respectively, and he was easily the most efficient of the trio while gaining 5.8 yards per rush. The third-year pro's number of rushing touches represented a season high, and he now has three receiving touchdowns overall in the last three games courtesy of his 13-yard scoring grab in the second quarter Thursday. Catches two passes in Week 9
Hines carried twice for 18 yards and caught two passes (on three targets) for 20 yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: Coming off a two-TD effort Week 8, Hines' change-of-pace impact was modest Sunday. Looking ahead to Thursday's game against the Titans, Hines remains on the PPR radar, but his fantasy value in standard formats is capped by the fact that Jonathan Taylor and Jordan Wilkins also are in the Colts' backfield mix.

Catches two TD passes
Hines carried five times for eight yards while adding three receptions (on five targets) for an additional 54 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's 41-21 win over the Lions.
Analysis: Hines did little with the handful of carries he received but made a splash as a receiver with touchdown receptions of 22 and 29 yards in the second quarter. He had generated just 57 scrimmage yards with no touchdowns over the last two games, so this performance came as something of a surprise for fantasy managers who were eyeing this week's matchup. Five receptions Sunday
Hines had five receptions on six targets for 27 yards in Sunday's win over the Bengals.
Analysis: Hines played 21 snaps on offense compared to just four snaps for Jordan Wilkins as the Colts turned to the passing game after falling behind early. Hines should continue to get more work as Jonathan Taylor's backup when the Colts need to pass, with Wilkins used more when Taylor needs a break carrying the ball.

Has five touches Sunday
Hines had three carries for eight yards and two receptions for 22 yards on four targets in Sunday's loss at Cleveland.
Analysis: Hines played on 21 of the offense's 56 snaps and ran a route on 18 of the offense's 37 pass plays, according to Pro Football Focus. He got more playing time than Jordan Wilkins (just two snaps) with the Colts needing to throw the ball after getting behind. However, the Colts couldn't get much going on the ground and gave the bulk of playing time to Jonathan Taylor (31 snaps) after a more even distribution of snaps last week.

Totals 32 yards
Hines carried the ball nine times for 24 yards in Week 4 against the Bears. He added three receptions for eight yards.
Analysis: Hines wasn't heavily utilized in the offense, as Jordan Wilkins matched his nine carries. He did provide a spark to the offense on a drive late in the first quarter, recording a rush and reception of 12 and 15 yards, respectively. The Colts have shown a willingness to employ a run-heavy approach early this season as they've often led games. While that's led to three victories, it is not conducive to Hines' success, which comes primarily as a receiver with the chance to work in the open field.

Practices fully
Hines (shoulder) practiced fully Thursday.
Analysis: He's thus slated to handle his usual change-of-pace role Sunday against the Bears, but given that both top back Jonathan Taylor and Jordan Wilkins are also in the mix for carries, Hines' weekly fantasy prospects hinge on his involvement in Indy's passing game. The 2018 fourth-rounder has parlayed his 14 targets through three games into 13 catches for 89 yards and a TD. He's also carried 14 times for 49 yards and a rushing score in that span.

Limited with shoulder issue
Hines was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Hines likely picked up the injury in Sunday's win over the Jets, but the fact that he was able to at least partially participate in practice is encouraging for his chances of playing Week 4 in Chicago. He'll have two more chances to ramp up his on-field activity before the Colts are decide whether he'll carry an injury designation into the weekend.

Eleven touches in big win
Hines carried the ball seven times for 21 yards and caught four of five targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 36-7 win over the Jets.
Analysis: After scoring twice on 15 touches in the Colts' opener and then getting only one reception last week, Hines found something of a happy medium between those two extremes. The scatback actually led the team in targets on a day when the passing game wasn't really needed, which bodes well for his developing connection with Philip Rivers. Hines had one reception for four yards and no carries in Sunday's win over Minnesota.
Analysis: Hines played just nine snaps while Jonathan Taylor played 49 snaps and Jordan Wilkins played 17 snaps (rushing for 40 yards). Hines' usage is a bit confounding, but it's likely just a byproduct of a game that became a rout in the second half, and the Colts decided to use Wilkins to run out the clock. Moves up depth chart
While Jonathan Taylor will take over as the primary running back with Marlon Mack out for the season with a torn Achilles, Hines will get snaps on all downs, head coach Frank Reich told Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site.
Analysis: Hines had two touchdowns (one receiving and one rushing) in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars as he had a larger role than expected even when Mack was healthy. He'll now be the No. 2 running back and could get the vast majority of receptions on passing downs, though Taylor looked sharp Sunday in the passing game (where he struggled at times in college).

Finds end zone twice
Hines carried the ball seven times for 28 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Jaguars. He added eight receptions for 45 yards and another score.
Analysis: Hines accounted for the first two scores of the Colts' season. His first touchdown came on a 12-yard scamper early in the first quarter. He followed that up one quarter later with an eight-yard reception to find the end zone. His heavy involvement in the passing game was little surprise, and he should have the chance to maintain -- or even augment -- his rushing role in Week 2 against the Vikings with Marlon Mack (Achilles) almost certain to be absent.

Listed as kick and punt retuner
Hines will begin the season as Indy's primary kickoff and punt returner. He's also listed as the No. 3 running back on the team's initial unofficial depth chart.
Analysis: Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni has said that Hines will still be a significant part of the offense, but there will be plenty of competition with rookie Jonathan Taylor joining Marlon Mack and Jordan Wilkins in the Indianapolis backfield. Mack and Taylor are expected to be near co-starters, which could leave Hines with a limited number of snaps per game.

Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni indicated during a media session Monday that he anticipates Hines playing a significant role in the passing game in 2020, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Hines has more competition for reps with second-round rookie Jonathan Taylor joining Marlon Mack and Jordan Wilkins in the Indianapolis backfield. Fortunately for Hines, none of the other three is particularly proficient as a pass catcher, an area where the third-year back shines. Increased competition for snaps
Hines faces increased competition for playing time in the Indianapolis backfield after the Colts took Jonathan Taylor with the 41st pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Analysis: Hines operated in a traditional runner/receiver timeshare with Marlon Mack last season, seeing 52 carries and 58 targets while playing 31.5 percent of offensive snaps in 16 games. His snaps could decrease significantly with Taylor now in the mix. However, Hines may still emerge as the primary receiving specialist out of the backfield.

Analysis: Hines operated in a traditional runner/receiver timeshare with Marlon Mack last season, seeing 52 carries and 58 targets while playing 31.5 percent of offensive snaps in 16 games. Those numbers were all down from the 85 carries, 81 targets and 43.9 percent snap share he handled during his 16-game rookie campaign in 2018. Supplies 56 total yards in Week 17
Hines carried seven times for 34 yards and added three receptions for 22 yards on five targets in the Colts' 38-20 loss to the Jaguars in Week 17.
Analysis: After taking two punts to the house in the Colts' Week 16 win over the Panthers, Hines had a more muted impact on special teams in the regular-season finale, collecting 44 yards across his three total returns. Instead, Hines offered his primary contributions as a change-of-pace option behind top back Marlon Mack. Dominates on special teams
Hines had a four-yard run on his sole carry and added a two-yard catch during Sunday's 38-6 win over Carolina. He also compiled 195 yards and two touchdowns on three punt returns.
Analysis: Hines extended the Colts' lead to two scores midway through the first quarter with an 84-yard touchdown on a punt return. He subsequently put the game away midway through the fourth quarter with a weaving 71-yard runback. They were the first two return touchdowns of Hines' career. Takes back seat in blowout loss
Hines rushed twice for 10 yards and caught both his targets for two yards in Monday's 34-7 loss to the Saints.
Analysis: This is the game script that should've benefited a back like Hines, as the Colts trailed by a hefty margin early and Jacoby Brissett threw 34 times. However, Marlon Mack commanded the bulk of the team's backfield reps, rushing 11 times for 19 yards. Hines is tough to depend on now that Mack's back, but he still has pass-catching upside with 40 receptions for 296 yards this year.

Hines gained one yard on four carries and caught four of five targets for 24 yards during Sunday's 38-35 loss to Tampa Bay. He lost a fumble during the contest.
Analysis: The fumble was just the second of Hines' career and the first that he's lost. Hines continues to have some value as a receiver out of the backfield who, as of late, has earned red-zone carries as well. Monday's matchup against New Orleans is an interesting one as the Saints' run defense is so-so, surrendering 4.3 yards per carry, but has seldom been tested.

He was given consecutive rushing attempts near the goal line on the team's first drive in the third quarter, first carrying the ball from down to to the one-yard line prior to scoring. Efficient in Week 12 loss
Hines rushed nine times for 51 yards and secured two of three targets for 10 yards in the Colts' 20-17 loss to the Texans on Thursday.
Analysis: In the Colts' first game without Marlon Mack (hand) this season, Hines logged a season high in carries and parlayed it into a season-best rushing yardage tally. Hines also continued in his usual pass-catching role, so he could be poised to continue seeing extra volume if Mack also sits out a Week 13 divisional showdown with the Titans, a week from this Sunday.

Should see increased role
Hines carried the ball three times for 11 yards and a touchdown in Week 11 against the Jaguars. He also added three receptions on four targets for 24 yards.
Analysis: Hines took advantage of Marlon Mack's hand injury to record his first touchdown of the season. His scamper came early in the fourth quarter, when he took a handoff for seven yards into the end zone. He tallied three rushing attempts and a target after Mack exited early in the third quarter, clearly working behind Jonathan Williams.
