Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Wednesday that Metchie (illness) could be ready to participate in the offseason program, Daniel Gotera of KHOU 11 Houston reports.

Metchie (knee) released a statement Sunday that said he recently was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia and likely won't be playing football during the 2022 campaign.
Analysis: Luckily, APL is the most curable form of Leukemia, so Metchie believes that he'll make a full recovery after receiving the necessary medical care. Regardless, the rookie second-round pick is expected to take as much time as necessary before returning to football activities. Recovery ahead of schedule
Metchie (knee) has beat the normal timetables for a player recovering from a torn ligament, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Metchie remains on the sidelines while his teammates participate in OTAs, but the doctor who performed the knee surgery is confident the wide receiver will be ready this summer. "I think he's able to hit all the milestones that the medical staff in Houston wants him to meet in terms of being ready to do things for the team this summer," Dr. Lyle Cain said. The Texans aren't pushing Metchie, who remains confident he'll be ready to play by training camp.

Not participating in OTAs
Metchie (knee) is with the Texans but he isn't participating in Tuesday's voluntary OTAs, Adam Wexler of SportsTalk790 reports.
Analysis: Metchie was spotted jogging on the sideline, but he wasn't able to get any reps in as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL. Texans head coach Lovie Smith said earlier in May that the team is still "in the process" of determining where Metchie is at, but the second-round pick has been confident he'll be ready for training camp in July. Houston obviously wants to be cautious with its rookie wideout, but they still expect him to be able to play at some point during the 2022 campaign.
