Williams held the lead role in the Rams' backfield for a second straight season in 2024, while rookie third-round pick Blake Corum spent the year on the sidelines. Coach Sean McVay has long preferred to rely on one back, and that probably won't change now, even with Williams entering the final year of his rookie deal and seeking an extension. General manager Les Snead has publicly discussed the possibility of said extension, which reflects how much the team values Williams' contributions. Pass protection and short-yardage consistency are among the reasons he's trusted, but his efficiency otherwise slipped in 2024. After averaging 5.0 yards per carry the year before, Williams dropped to 4.1 YPC in 2024, with just two carries of 20-plus yards. He also had five fumbles in the regular season and another in the playoffs, losing four of those. Williams' lack of top-end speed (4.65 40) and modest size (5-foot-9, 202 pounds) reduce his margin for error compared to other high-volume backs. If the fumbling continues or his rushing efficiency declines further, it could open the door for Corum or rookie fourth-round pick Jarquez Hunter to carve out a larger role.
