Loses injury tag
Burton (ankle) was a full participant at Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: Burton has yet to play this season, as he was a healthy scratch in 11 of 12 games this season. Now that he's back to full strength, he's not guaranteed to return to the lineup, although he'll have a better chance to play if Tee Higgins (concussion) is unable to go. As a rookie last year, Burton caught four passes (14 targets) for 107 yards.

Labeled week-to-week with injury
Head coach Zac Taylor relayed Friday that Burton is considered week-to-week due to an ankle injury, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burton was unable to play in the Bengals' 32-14 win over the Ravens on Thanksgiving Day due to an ankle injury. The injury appears severe enough for the second-year pro that a multi-game absence is on the table, and he faces an uphill battle to be available for Cincinnati's Week 14 clash against Buffalo on Sunday, Dec. 7. Burton has yet to appear in a regular-season game in 2025.

Won't play on Thanksgiving
Burton (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Thursday's game against the Ravens.

No longer under the weather
Burton (illness) was a full participant during Wednesday's practice, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: An illness prevented Burton from playing in the Bengals' Week 11 loss to the Steelers, but his full participation in Wednesday's practice indicates that he is on track to play against the Patriots on Sunday. The second-year wideout has yet to appear in a regular-season game in 2025, with most of his absences coming as a healthy scratch. However, Burton could get his first taste of regular-season action in Week 12 due to the absence of Ja'Marr Chase (suspension).

Won't play Sunday
Burton (illness) has been downgraded and ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Steelers.
Analysis: Burton practiced in full Friday and originally had no injury designation for the Week 11 divisional matchup, but he's since been ruled out due to an illness. Charlie Jones and Mitchell Tinsley could see more opportunities in Cincinnati's wide-receiver corps while Burton is sidelined Sunday.

Ready for Week 11
Burton (illness) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Steelers.
Analysis: The second-year wideout from Alabama didn't practice Thursday due to an illness, but he logged a full session Friday, indicating that he's moved past the issue in time to play Sunday. Now fully healthy, Burton is expected to play a depth role in Cincinnati's wide-receiver corps in the Week 11 divisional matchup.

Absence continues Week 9
Burton (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: The 2024 third-rounder has been a healthy scratch for the first nine games of the regular season. Burton's next opportunity to play is Week 11 against the Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 16, but he's unlikely to play unless the Bengals need depth at wide receiver or a returner on kickoffs.

Inactive again
Burton (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday night's game against the Broncos.

Inactive again Week 3
Burton (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Analysis: Despite being healthy, Burton has yet to suit up this season. The 2024 third-round pick remains behind Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Andrei Iosivas, Mitchell Tinsley and Charlie Jones on the offensive depth chart.

Inactive again Week 2
Burton (coach's decision) is a healthy scratch for Sunday's tilt against Jacksonville.
Analysis: Burton was also inactive for Cincinnati's season-opening win over Cleveland, so it appears the Bengals don't currently have a role for him. The second-year wideout can contribute as both a depth receiver and kick/punt returner when given a chance to play, though fellow WR Charlie Jones served as the team's return man in Week 1 and therefore seems to be ahead of Burton in the pecking order.

Surprise Week 1 scratch
Burton (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burton had a tumultuous rookie season but had gotten strong reviews for improvement throughout the offseason. That makes it particularly surprising that he'll be inactive for Week 1, though Charlie Jones and Mitchell Tinsley -- both active-- are set to serve as depth wide receivers and special teams contributors on Sunday.

Healthy for Week 1
Burton (knee) did not appear on the Bengals' injury report Wednesday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burton suffered a knee injury in the team's preseason finale against the Colts, but he now appears to be a full go at practice. The wide receiver will operate as a depth option behind Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Andrei Iosivas in Sunday's regular-season opener against the Browns.

Injures knee in preseason game
Burton injured his knee during Saturday's preseason loss to the Colts, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burton missed some recent practices and didn't play in Cincinnati's second preseason game, dealing with an undisclosed injury. It turns out his knee was the problem, and he may have aggravated it Saturday afternoon. Either way, his presence on the field with second- and third-stringers Saturday isn't a good sign for Week 1 involvement on offense. Charlie Jones and/or Mitchell Tinsley may be ahead of Burton on the depth chart, in which case Burton's best chance at contributing would be returns…read more

Nearing return
Burton (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day and making good progress, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Bengals held Burton out of their second preseason game due to an unspecified injury. He mostly worked with the second-string offense during the preseason opener, also returning kickoffs and punts. There hasn't been much sign of Burton challenging Andrei Iosivas for the No. 3 receiver job, but the 2024 third-round pick could have a role as a return specialist and occasional depth wideout if he proves his health before Week 1.

Won't suit up vs. Washington
Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Saturday that Burton (undisclosed) is ruled out for Monday's preseason game against the Commanders, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Burton has missed practice reps since last Sunday due to an undisclosed injury, and he was limited to rehab work in his return to practice Friday. The second-year pro seems to be progressing well in his recovery, at least, so he could be back in action in time for Cincinnati's preseason finale against the Colts on Saturday, Aug. 23. Limited to side field
Burton (undisclosed) worked on a rehab field during Friday's practice, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Cincinnati beat writers spotted Burton at practice for the first time since the Bengals' preseason opener a week ago Thursday, but the wideout didn't actually take part in team drills, instead going to a side field with TE Mike Gesicki (hamstring) and other injured players. While the relatively quick return to physical activity suggests Burton's unspecified injury isn't serious, the missed time could hurt his chances of earning a Week 1 role off the bench. Returns to practice
Burton (undisclosed) returned to practice Friday, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports.
Analysis: It's his first practice since recording one catch, one punt return and two kickoff returns in the preseason opener against the Eagles. A quick return to practice suggests the undisclosed injury isn't serious, but that doesn't mean Burton will play in Monday's preseason game against Washington. Doesn't practice Sunday
Burton did not participate in Sunday's training camp practice due to an undisclosed injury, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burton may have picked up the injury during the Bengals' preseason loss to the Eagles on Thursday. The 2024 third-rounder is considered day-to-day, and his practice participation over the coming week may indicate his chances of playing against the Commanders on Monday, Aug. 18. Burton finished Thursday's contest with one catch (on two targets) for three yards along with 42 yards on two kick returns and 32 yards on his lone punt return.

Minimal impact on offense
Burton caught one of two targets for three yards, adding two kick returns for 42 yards and one punt return for 32 yards, in Thursday's 34-27 preseason loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: He didn't get any work with Joe Burrow and the first-team offense, instead seeing both of his targets and most of his snaps later in the first half. Burton at least made a good impression with a long punt return, but it's unclear if he has a serious chance to unseat Andrei Iosivas as the No. 3 receiver. In Thursday's game, Charlie Jones also seemed to be ahead of Burton in the WR rotation, taking a few snaps with the starters and catching a pass from Burrow.

Continued progress
Burton has made some nice plays in training camp so far and more importantly has avoided all the pratfalls that plagued him last year, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: While the Bengals are happy with how Burton has showed up in camp, they are also treating this as a "necessary but not yet sufficient" status for him to elevate his status on the field. Said offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher, "That's a prerequisite, right? That doesn't mean you're gonna be a successful pro. That gives you a chance to be a successful pro. He's making the right steps in that direction." Burton remains behind Andrei Iosivas on the depth chart, with Iosivas also having a good camp.

Impressing at camp
Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Wednesday that Burton has "done a good job" this offseason, Chris Roling of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Burton, a 2024 third-round pick from Alabama, struggled throughout his rookie campaign, catching just four passes for 107 yards and tallying 378 kick-return yards over 14 games. Additionally, the Bengals had concerns about the 23-year-old's character, as he missed a pregame walkthrough and was involved in other incidents during the 2024 season. Records four receptions as rookie
Burton notched four catches on 14 targets for 107 yards over 14 regular-season games in 2024. He added 378 yards on 13 kick returns.
Analysis: After being selected in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Burton got limited run in his first pro campaign. He was inefficient in catching balls thrown his way, though he did show an ability to make big plays, as two of his four catches went for over 40 yards. Late in the campaign, Burton took over as the Bengals' primary kick returner and showed significant promise in that role, averaging 29.1 yards per return. Won't travel to Pittsburgh
Burton (coach's decision) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Steelers, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Burton won't even travel with the team to Pittsburgh, and it seems as if he's being punished for some sort of off-the-field incident. It's the third time this season that the third-round rookie will be a healthy inactive. Burton will close out the regular season having caught just four of 14 targets for 107 scoreless yards. He also returned 13 kickoffs for 378 yards. Perhaps Burton can get back on the field next week if the Bengals sneak into the playoffs.

Goes without target again Monday
Burton played nine of the Bengals' 71 snaps on offense and went without a target in Monday's 27-20 win over the Cowboys.
Analysis: Burton went without a target for the second game in a row and also saw his playing time on special teams take a hit. After returning five kickoffs for 46 yards in the Week 13 loss to the Steelers, Burton ceded kickoff-return duties to Khalil Herbert on Monday.

No targets in Week 13
Burton went without a target while playing two of the Bengals' 62 snaps on offense in Sunday's 44-38 loss to the Steelers. He also returned five kickoffs for 146 yards.
Analysis: After logging double-digit snaps in both of the previous two contests, Burton saw his role get scaled back coming out of a Week 12 bye. Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Andrei Iosivas were all healthy and served as the Bengals' primary receivers in three-wide sets, leaving little room for Burton to pick up playing time. One catch in loss
Burton caught one of four targets for eight yards in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Burton played just 18 of the Bengals' 82 offensive snaps as Cincinnati's No. 4 wideout, behind Ja'Marr Chase (81), Tee Higgins (69) and Andrei Iosivas (56). The rookie receiver has yet to take on a major role in the Bengals' passing attack, recording just four receptions for 107 yards on 14 targets in nine games. Out of sync Thursday
Burton caught one of five targets for 11 yards in a Week 10 loss to the Ravens on Thursday Night Football. He also returned a kickoff for 17 yards.
Analysis: With Tee Higgins (quad) out a third straight week and Charlie Jones (groin) missing a second consecutive contest, Burton was given a chance to play after he was a healthy scratch in Week 9 against the Raiders. The rookie wideout couldn't get much going, however, as he was able to reel in just one of the five passes thrown his way. Returns to lineup Thursday
Burton is active for Thursday night's game against the Ravens.
Analysis: Burton was a healthy scratch for this past Sunday's win over the Raiders, but he'll reenter the lineup Thursday, providing another option behind fellow WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Andrei Iosivas, with Tee Higgins (quad) inactive. Given that Charlie Jones (groin) also is unavailable, Burton, who has recorded two catches (on five targets) for 88 yards in seven games to date, should have an opportunity to mix into the Bengals' Week 10 passing game in his return to action.

Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that he expects Burton to play Thursday at Baltimore, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Analysis: Burton was a healthy scratch for Sunday's game versus the Raiders, but it appears he'll get a chance to play in Week 9. If Tee Higgins (quadricep) misses his third straight game Thursday, Burton may even have a realistic path to a significant role on the boundary.

Healthy inactive for Week 9
Burton is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Analysis: Despite having quarterback Joe Burrow lobby for Burton earlier this week to get more playing time moving forward, the rookie wideout will end up on the inactive list in Week 9, even with two other receivers in Tee Higgins (quadricep) and Charlie Jones (groin) sitting out with injuries. With Burton out of the mix, the Bengals will have Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin and Kendric Pryor as their available depth options behind No. 1 wideout Ja'Marr Chase.

Could get more snaps soon
Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said Wednesday that Burton deserves more playing time, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burton played a career-high 41 percent of snaps in Sunday's 37-17 loss to Philadelphia, catching one of three targets for 41 yards while running 16 routes (42 percent share). The bump in playing time came while Tee Higgins (quadricep) was out of action, however, rather than a case of Burton taking playing time away from No. 3 receiver Andrei Iosivas, who has been targeted on just 11.7 percent of his routes while producing 7.0 YPT and 0.79 yards per route. One long catch
Burton caught one pass for 41 yards in the Bengals' loss to the Eagles in Week 8. He played a season-high 24 snaps and had three total targets.
Analysis: The 2024 third-round pick hasn't asked to do too much yet in the Bengals' offense, but with Tee Higgins (quad) out Sunday, Burton saw his role increase. No. 3 wideout Andrei Iosivas hasn't been getting open consistently, so it's possible that Burton could start to earn more playing time in the second half of the season.

Not targeted again
Burton failed to record a single target in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Burton played just four of the Bengals' 67 offensive snaps Sunday, as the rookie wideout continues to be an afterthought in Cincinnati's offense. With Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Andrei Iosivas all healthy, Burton remains far off the fantasy radar for a Week 5 matchup against the Ravens.

Not involved in loss
Burton failed to record a single target in Monday's 38-33 loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: Operating as the Bengals' No. 4 receiver, Burton only played three of Cincinnati's 62 offensive snaps Monday with Tee Higgins returning from injury. The rookie wideout was not targeted in the contest and will likely continue to find it difficult to see much playing time behind Higgins, Ja'Marr Chase and Andrei Iosivas going forward. Burton should not be trusted for fantasy purposes in a Week 4 matchup against the Panthers.

One catch against Chiefs
Burton reeled in one of his two targets for 47 yards in Sunday's 26-25 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: Burton's lone catch Sunday was his first of the season. The rookie played just 10 of the Bengals' 64 offensive snaps in the contest, leaving him limited opportunities to establish a more prominent role in the passing game. Burton is buried on Cincinnati's wide receiver depth chart, and with veteran teammate Tee Higgins (hamstring) nearing a return from injury, the first-year wideout will likely continue to see inconsistent playing time. The Bengals host the Commanders in Week 3.

Sees little playing time Week 1
Burton played four of the Bengals' 51 snaps on offense and went without a target in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Even with Tee Higgins (hamstring) inactive for the contest and with Ja'Marr Chase handling a slightly lower snap share (84 percent) than normal after sitting out all of training camp and the preseason, Burton couldn't carve out much of a role on offense in his NFL debut. Professionalism questioned
Burton has made some highlight-reel plays in the preseason demonstrating his talent, but he has also at times displayed why he slipped in the draft, raising questions about his professionalism, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: During the preseason, Burton was often on the field late in games, and not with the first two units. One report was an unverified remark by broadcaster Al Michaels of Burton sleeping through meetings, and quarterback Joe Burrow said that Burton needs to "stay in the playbook." Burton is clearly behind Andrei Iosivas right now for the No. 3 receiver role, and Trenton Irwin may also be ahead of the third-round rookie in the pecking order.

Burton caught his lone target for a 19-yard gain in Saturday's 27-3 preseason loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Burton started and got a lot of playing time early, while Ja'Marr Chase (contract), Tee Higgins, Andrei Iosivas and Trenton Irwin all were rested. Paces pass catchers Saturday
Burton secured three of four targets for 82 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers on Saturday night.

He'd logged only six snaps and was still without a target entering the final period, but he made the most of the final 15 minutes.
