Career-best outing in win
Vidal tallied 25 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-14 win over the Raiders. He also caught his lone target for 11 yards.
Analysis: Vidal exploded for a 59-yard scamper to kick off the scoring in the second half, by far the longest run of his young career, and that resulted in the go-ahead touchdown in a game the Raiders rarely threatened. Nominal starter Omarion Hampton (ankle) looks like he is close to making his return after a seven-game absence, which would in essence end Vidal's opportunity as the team's lead back. If this was the final hurrah, the second-year back was truly marvelous, compiling 24-plus touches for the…read more

Set for lead role again
Vidal will be the Chargers' top running back Sunday against the Raiders after Omarion Hampton (ankle) was ruled out for that contest, Eric Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The Chargers designated Hampton for return from injured reserve Tuesday, and he proceeded to be limited on all three practice reports before the team made a ruling on his status for Week 13. With Hampton still sidelined, Vidal will lead L.A's backfield for a seventh straight game. In the first six, he combined for 103 touches for 450 yards from scrimmage and three total TDs. Because Vidal is the only RB on the active roster, some combination of Jaret Patterson, Amar Johnson and Trayveon…read more

Stymied in lopsided loss
Vidal rushed five times for 13 yards and brought in both targets for minus-1 yard in the Chargers' 35-6 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
Analysis: Vidal was stonewalled on his few opportunities, and a game script that saw the Jaguars eventually pull away from the Chargers essentially put a quick end to any fantasy hopes the running back and his fantasy managers had. Vidal also battled through a thigh injury that led to a brief exit from the game, and he ultimately finished with his lowest rushing yardage total in any game during which he's logged any carries this season. Sunday may have been Vidal's final game in the lead-back role as…read more

Back in Sunday's contest
Vidal (thigh) returned to Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

Leaves Sunday's game
Vidal exited Sunday's game against the Jaguars after sustaining a thigh injury.
Analysis: Before hurting his thigh, Vidal had carried three times for 11 yards and caught both of his targets for minus-1 yard. Amar Johnson and Trayveon Williams are available to handle the Chargers' backfield duties while Vidal is sidelined.

Serves as workhorse on SNF
Vidal took 25 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown while adding 13 yards on one reception in Sunday's 25-10 win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Vidal bounced back in a big way from a forgettable showing against the Titans last week (12-30-0). The 23-year-old set a new personal high with Sunday's 25 carries while cashing in his second rushing touchdown (third overall) through five starts for the injured Omarion Hampton (ankle). The latter is expected to remain out until after the Chargers' Week 12 bye, affording Vidal at least one more opportunity to operate as the team's lead back. Can't get going against Titans
Vidal logged 12 rushes for 30 yards in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Titans. He did not catch his lone target.
Analysis: Vidal's managers had high expectations entering this favorable matchup, but he instead might have ceded clear lead-back duties while Omarion Hampton (ankle) remains sidelined. Vidal led the Chargers backfield in carries 8-2 at halftime, but he was out-carried by Jarrett Patterson 7-4 over the final two quarters. While it's possible that had to do with game script, the Chargers only briefly held a two-score lead and Patterson was also more effective with his work. Vidal should remain in fantasy…read more

Thrives in Week 8 win
Vidal rushed 23 times for 117 yards and a touchdown and brought in one of two targets for 10 yards in the Chargers' 37-10 win over the Vikings on Thursday night.
Analysis: Following an impressive Week 6 showing against the Dolphins where Vidal compiled a career-best 124 yards, the 2024 sixth-round pick was stymied by the Colts to the tune of 20 yards on just nine carries Sunday. However, the second-year pro bounced back in spectacular fashion Thursday, averaging just over 5.0 yards per tote while rattling off three runs of double-digit yardage. Stifled by Indy
Vidal carried the ball nine times for 20 yards and caught four of five targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: After a huge Week 6 performance against the Dolphins as the Chargers' lead back, Vidal had much less success in Week 7. While he still led Los Angeles in carries, Justin Herbert actually led the team in rushing yards with a meager 31. With Omarion Hampton (IR, ankle) likely still more than a month away from his return, Vidal will maintain his spot at the top of the depth chart heading into a Week 8 clash with a Vikings defense that just held Saquon Barkley to 44 rushing yards and 2.4 yards per…read more

Emerges as lead back in win
Vidal carried the ball 18 times for 124 yards and also caught three of his four targets for 14 yards and a touchdown in the 29-27 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
Analysis: Despite reports earlier this week Vidal and Hassan Haskins would be a part of a committee, the second-year back proved definitively he was the more explosive player by tallying 138 total yards on 21 touches to Haskins' 23 yards on seven opportunities. Omarion Hampton (ankle) is expected to be out at least a month, and while the Chargers have reportedly been sniffing around available options according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Vidal's massive outing might quiet the trade calls for another week.…read more

Part of committee with Haskins
Offensive coordinator Greg Roman said Thursday that Vidal and Hassan Haskins will both factor in significantly Sunday against the Dolphins, but neither is viewed as the clear lead back, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Vidal was signed to the active roster Wednesday off the Chargers' practice squad, taking the roster spot that the team cleared by placing Omarion Hampton (ankle) on IR. Haskins and Vidal each played 14 snaps on offense in the Chargers' 27-10 Week 5 loss to Commanders, during which Hampton was injured. It sounds like both healthy running backs will have opportunities to capitalize on Sunday's favorable matchup against a Dolphins defense that has allowed the most rushing yards in the NFL this…read more

Signed to roster
The Chargers signed Vidal to their active roster Wednesday.
Analysis: He'll take the place of Omarion Hampton, who was placed on injured reserve after suffering an ankle injury late in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Commanders. Vidal and Hassan Haskins formed a near 50/50 split on the next drive, with Vidal then taking over on the final series once Justin Herbert and other starters had been pulled. Meanwhile, fellow running back Hassan Haskins also logged 14 snaps, carrying five times for 13 yards and catching his only target for two yards. Elevated to active roster
The Chargers elevated Vidal from their practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's game versus the Commanders.
Analysis: Vidal is expected to serve as Los Angeles' No. 3 running back behind Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins for the second straight week. Vidal didn't see any touches on offense in the Week 4 loss versus the Giants but did return one kickoff for 25 yards and will likely have a similar role against Washington. The Chargers will be eligible to elevate him just one more time this season before needing to sign him to the active roster.

Reverts to practice squad
Vidal reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Vidal was elevated to the Chargers' active roster for Week 4 following Najee Harris' season-ending Achilles injury in Week 3 against the Broncos. Vidal saw the field for seven snaps (two on offense, five on special teams) and was the firm RB3 behind Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins. Vidal did log one kickoff return for 25 yards and would likely reprise that role were he to be elevated by the Chargers again this season.

Returns to active roster
The Chargers elevated Vidal from their practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Analysis: With Najee Harris suffering a torn Achilles in the Chargers' Week 3 win over the Broncos, Vidal's elevation adds much-needed depth to the team's backfield. The 2024 sixth-round pick from Troy appeared in 10 games for Los Angeles in 2024, recording 217 yards and one touchdown on 48 offensive touches (43 carries and five receptions). He's expected to play behind Omarion Hampton and Hassan Haskins in a Week 4 matchup against the Giants.

Back to practice squad
The Chargers signed Vidal to the practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: Vidal couldn't earn a spot on Los Angeles' initial 53-man roster entering Year 2, but the 2024 sixth-round pick will stick around in an emergency reserve role on the practice squad. Across 10 regular-season appearances as a rookie in 2024, Vidal rushed just 43 times for 155 yards (3.6 YPC) and zero touchdowns. He also secured five of nine targets for 62 yards and one score.

The Chargers waived Vidal on Tuesday.
Analysis: The 2024 sixth-rounder entered training camp in the mix for a depth role behind Najee Harris (eye) and rookie Omarion Hampton. Vidal wasn't the most efficient runner across three preseason games, finishing with 25 carries for 69 yards (2.8 YPC) and two touchdowns. Struggles on six carries
Vidal rushed six times for 16 yards while failing to bring in his lone target in Sunday's 27-13 preseason win over the Saints.
Analysis: Vidal got the first crack at touches out of the backfield Sunday with Najee Harris (eye) still sidelined and Omarion Hampton getting rested for the exhibition. The 22-year-old Vidal struggled in the spot start, averaging well under 3.0 yards per carry and wasting a prime opportunity to solidify a roster spot. Vidal will have to show improved play to close out the preseason schedule or risk missing the cut completely when rosters are finalized.

In mix for depth role
As training camp approaches, Vidal is looking to secure a role behind newcomers Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton, Spencer Schultz of USA Today reports.
Analysis: During his rookie campaign, Vidal recorded 43 carries for 155 yards and added five catches for 62 yards and a TD across 10 regular season games while working in a backfield that also included J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Ahead of Week 1, Vidal figures to compete with Hassan Haskins for depth slotting behind Harris and Hampton, with Schultz noting that Vidal's case for a roster spot/role in 2025 could hinge on him demonstrating that he can be a factor in the Chargers' passing game.

Hardly utilized in rookie campaign
Vidal finished his rookie campaign with 43 carries for 155 yards and an additional five receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown across 10 games.
Analysis: The 2024 sixth-round pick was considered a possible deep sleeper entering the year given the uncertain availability of oft-injured backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, but the imported Ravens duo were relatively healthy throughout the year, relegating Vidal to a healthy inactive at portions of the season. Vidal is inactive for Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Texans.

Gets just one snap in Week 18
Vidal went without a carry or target while playing one of the Chargers' 75 snaps on offense in Sunday's 34-20 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Though the Chargers were without Gus Edwards (ankle) for a second consecutive game, starting running back J.K. Dobbins (65 percent snap share) took on more playing time in his second game back from injured reserve, while Hassan Haskins (36 percent share) settled in as the clear No. 2 back. Sees five carries in win
Vidal tallied five carries for 24 yards in the 40-7 win over the Patriots on Saturday.
Analysis: Vidal played just nine offensive snaps with J.K. Dobbins (knee) returning after a four-week absence. Meanwhile Hassan Haskins operated in the power-back capacity in replace of the injured Gus Edwards (ankle) as Haskins played 28 snaps while Dobbins saw 42 in the game that quickly evolved into a blowout by the third quarter. Vidal has flashed some explosiveness in his rookie season, but the committee approach will likely relegate the 23-year-old to a mere depth piece entering the playoffs.

Used sparingly in win
Vidal carried the ball five times for 24 yards in the 34-27 win over the Broncos on Thursday.
Analysis: It was Gus Edwards' time to shine Thursday, as the bruising back helped the team complete a feverish second-half rally, finishing with 14 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns. This very much felt like the Chargers acknowledging Edwards was the hot hand Thursday, as game script wouldn't necessarily suggest the power back being a focal point. Five total touches in Week 15
Vidal rushed three times for nine yards and caught two of three targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Vidal played the majority of snaps at running back for Los Angeles, handling 35 offensive snaps while veteran Gus Edward played just 14 snaps. Despite his increase in snap share, the rookie struggled to get much going, as the running game stalled against Tampa Bay's defense throughout the contest. Things won't get easier in Vidal's next game against a formidable Broncos defense. The 23-year-old will remain difficult to trust for fantasy purposes in Week 16.

Sees more work in loss
Vidal registered eight carries for 34 yards in the 19-17 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. He did not catch his lone target.
Analysis: Vidal saw his workload bump up from Week 13, but Gus Edwards still ended up with the team lead in carries (10 for 36). More crucially, Edwards got the team's only touchdown on the ground and was the focal point in the red zone, which is to be expected given the bruising back's running style. J.K. Dobbins (knee) was averaging over three targets a game in his five prior contests before going on injured reserve, so it's been interesting to see that neither Vidal nor Edwards have been a factor as a…read more

Doesn't see major bump in work
Vidal registered just four carries for 20 yards in the 17-13 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: It's hard to get very excited about this performance given the expectation was Vidal would see a substantial uptick in work due to J.K. Dobbins (knee) being placed on injured reserve, but to add some perspective, the Falcons turned the ball over four times and sported a nearly 12-minute advantage in the time-of-possession battle. May have role again
Vidal may help replace J.K. Dobbins, who is expected to miss Sunday's game at Atlanta after suffering a knee sprain in Monday's 30-23 loss to the Ravens, Bobby Kownack of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Vidal played in four games earlier this season, averaging 4.5 carries for 11.0 yards (2.4 YPC) and 0.75 catches for 12.3 yards. He took his first NFL touch for a 38-yard receiving touchdown on a wheel route but then didn't do much thereafter and became a healthy inactive again once Gus Edwards returned from injured reserve. Vidal carried the ball five times for seven yards in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Browns.
Analysis: Vidal played 11 of the Chargers' 57 offensive snaps Sunday, well behind starter J.K. Dobbins (42). The rookie running back's seven total yards were the fewest he's gained in the four games in which he's been active this season. The latter dominated in playing time (45 snaps) while also handling 17 touches on his way to 66 total yards from scrimmage. Vidal carried the ball four times for 11 yards and also caught both of his targets for 40 yards and a touchdown in the 23-16 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
Analysis: Vidal's touchdown came on a brilliantly schemed wheel route in the first quarter, as the rookie caught a perfectly thrown ball in stride for a 30-yard touchdown. Otherwise the 2024 sixth-round pick was held in check as J.K. Dobbins saw a large workload (25 carries, two targets) in the first game since Gus Edwards (ankle) was placed on injured reserve. Likely to handle passing work
Vidal is expected to handle some of the third-down duties out of the Chargers' backfield this season, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: It makes all of the sense in the world, as both J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards are prototypical between-the-tackles, early-down grinders. Vidal beat out Isaiah Spiller for a roster spot in Los Angeles, and only Hassan Haskins rounds out the depth chart. Haskins is another early-down thumper.
