Catches first career TD
Spann-Ford caught his only target for a four-yard touchdown in Sunday's 24-21 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: The second-year tight end barely kept his balance after colliding with Andrew Mukuba to haul in his first career NFL touchdown on a designed rollout by Dak Prescott in the third quarter. Spann-Ford's role on offense remains limited -- he has yet to see more than one target in any game this season en route to a 5-22-1 line on six targets through 11 games -- and even if something were to happen to starter Jake Ferguson, Luke Schoonmaker (8-63-0 on 16 targets this season) might remain ahead of him…read more

Notches fourth catch of season
Spann-Ford was on the field for 24 of the Cowboys' 67 snaps on offense and recorded a four-yard reception on his lone target in Monday's 33-16 win over the Raiders.
Analysis: Spann-Ford once again served as Dallas' No. 3 tight end, with his 36 percent snap share placing him behind Jake Ferguson (63) and Luke Schoonmaker (45). The second-year player out of Minnesota now has four receptions for 18 yards on five targets through 10 appearances.

No targets in Week 7
Spann-Ford went without a target while playing 15 of the Cowboys' 67 snaps on offense in Sunday's 44-22 win over the Commanders.
Analysis: Though starting tight end Jake Ferguson went off for seven catches for 29 yards and two touchdowns Sunday, neither Spann-Ford nor fellow backup Luke Schoonmaker saw any involvement in the passing game. Spann-Ford -- who has recorded two catches for five yards on three targets through seven games -- will continue to see limited playing time on offense but should have a regular role on special teams.

First grab of 2025
Spann-Ford caught his only target for three yards in Sunday's 40-37 overtime win over the Giants.
Analysis: The second-year tight end dealt with an ankle injury toward the end of training camp, but Spann-Ford was healthy to begin the season and caught his first pass of 2025 on his second target Sunday. The Minnesota product remains third on the depth chart behind starter Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker, but Spann-Ford's strong blocking could allow him to move past Schoonmaker at some point during the campaign.

All set for Week 1
Spann-Ford (ankle) won't carry an injury designation into Thursday's contest against the Eagles.
Analysis: Spann-Ford returned to be a full participant at practice this week after suffering an ankle injury in late July. The tight end will now be all set to operate as a depth option behind Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker in the team's regular-season opener in Philadelphia.

Back at practice Monday
Spann-Ford (ankle) was able to practice Monday, Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The second-year tight end suffered an ankle injury during training camp in late July. Spann-Ford recovered in time to avoid a stint on the IR, and the fact that the Cowboys carried only three TEs on their initial 53-man roster is a strong sign that he'll be ready for Week 1. Spann-Ford will compete for snaps with Luke Schoonmaker (concussion) behind starter Jake Ferguson.

Sheds walking boot
Spann-Ford (ankle) was spotted without a walking boot during the Cowboys' joint training camp practice with the Rams on Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Spann-Ford injured his left ankle during training camp practice in late July and was expected to miss at least two weeks. He appears to be progressing in his recovery, and while he won't likely be available for Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, he could be ready to suit up for the Cowboys' second exhibition game against the Ravens on Aug. 16. Spann-Ford appeared in all 17 regular-season games in 2024 and finished with nine tackles (on 14 targets) for 88 yards. He's battling with…read more

Longer absence expected
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Spann-Ford (ankle) is expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Spann-Ford injured his left ankle during Sunday's practice. He was initially set to be sidelined for a few days, but the injury appears to be more severe and puts him in jeopardy of missing the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Rams on Aug. 9. John Stephens and Princeton Fant should get more practice reps in Spann-Ford's absence.

Injures leg Sunday
Spann-Ford suffered a leg injury during Dallas' practice Sunday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Spann-Ford rolled his ankle while blocking on a run play. He was in line to serve as the team's third-string tight end behind Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker, but John Stephens could be poised for an expanded role should Spann-Ford end up being sidelined for an extended period of time.

Fills depth role as rookie
Spann-Ford caught nine of 14 targets for 88 yards over 17 regular-season games in 2024.
Analysis: The undrafted rookie out of Minnesota did well to suit up for every game, but he was mainly limited to blocking assignments while Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker were healthy. Six of Spann-Ford's nine receptions came over two games in Weeks 11-12 while Ferguson worked through a concussion however, hinting as some upside as a pass catcher. Spann-Ford will head into 2025 in the No. 3 spot on the depth chart once again, barring a high-profile offseason addition by Dallas.

Two catches in Week 12
Spann-Ford played 33 of the Cowboys' 66 snaps on offense and recorded two catches for 24 yards on two targets in Sunday's 34-26 win over the Commanders.
Analysis: With Jake Ferguson (concussion) sidelined, Luke Schoonmaker drew the start at tight end, while Spann-Ford moved up a spot on the depth chart at served as the No. 2 option. The undrafted rookie out of Minnesota proved to be a reliable tertiary target in the passing game and frequently shared the field with Schoonmaker, who played 65 percent of the snaps. The Cowboys are expected to lean on Schoonmaker and Spann-Ford as their primary tight ends once again Thursday versus the Giants, as Ferguson…read more

Records four catches in Week 11
Spann-Ford played 41 of the Cowboys' 83 snaps on offense and finished with four catches for 42 yards on five targets in Monday's 34-10 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Starting tight end Jake Ferguson played just seven snaps before leaving the game with a concussion, resulting in elevated playing time for Luke Schoonmaker (44 snaps), Spann-Ford and Princeton Fant (seven). With Dallas trailing by multiple scores for much of the contest, quarterback Cooper Rush dropped back 60 times on the night and targeted 11 pass catchers, with Spann-Ford being of the beneficiary of the game script. According to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, head coach Mike…read more

First NFL catches in Sunday's win
Spann-Ford caught two of three targets for 20 yards in Sunday's win over the Steelers.
Analysis: The undrafted rookie out of Minnesota pulled down the first receptions of his NFL career, as nine different receivers caught passes from Dak Prescott on the night. Jake Ferguson remains the unquestioned No. 1 tight end for Dallas, but if he were to miss time due to injury again, Spann-Ford could be ready to push Luke Schoonmaker for snaps and looks in his place.

Trending towards backup role
Spann-Ford is on track to back up Luke Schoonmaker in Week 2 versus the Saints, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: With Jake Ferguson (knee) doubtful, Spann-Ford is on track to back up Schoonmaker at tight end. Spann-Ford was on the field for 18 offensive snaps in Week 1 but didn't receive any targets. Given his move up the depth chart, he could potentially see a little more action against New Orleans.
