It wouldn't be surprising if that stopped this week against the 49ers, who rank third with 30 points per game while coughing up just one turnover. The 49ers simply have too much talent to trust Cardinals D/ST this week.

Analysis: The Cardinals shut out the Giants in the first half, but the floodgates opened in the second half. While they're off to an 0-2 start, the Cardinals' pass rush has been a bright spot with nine sacks. The Cowboys' offensive line has done an excellent job thus far, as QB Dak Prescott has been sacked just once. Thus, this is a daunting matchup with seemingly limited upside for fantasy purposes.

The Cardinals recorded six sacks, two fumble recoveries and an interception in the 20-16 loss to the Commanders in Week 1.

Analysis: They returned one of the fumbles for a touchdown, making them a surprisingly viable fantasy asset. This unit will meet its match eventually, but it could play above its talent level under direction of head coach Jonathan Gannon. There's an excellent opportunity in Week 2 versus the Giants, who were shut out in Week 1 while Cowboys D/ST scored two touchdowns. There is still significant risk for Cardinals D/ST, but there's enough upside for DFS purposes, at least.

The Cardinals traded LB Isaiah Simmons to the Giants for a seventh-round pick.

Analysis: Perhaps Simmons never lived up to his first-round hype, but his versatility was impressive for fantasy purposes, as he recorded four sacks and two interceptions, including a pick-six, last season. The Cardinals couldn't afford to lose much in the pass-rush department, as J.J. Watt retired this offseason. While they added BJ Ojulari (knee) in the second round of the draft, they don't have enough proven weapons to make us believe in this unit.

Analysis: Ojulari -- a second-round pick -- was also bothered by a minor injury during the offseason program, and it sounds like it may be the same issue. That's a bit concerning for a player that projects as a starter. Regardless, fantasy managers shouldn't be flocking to the Cardinals D/ST, as it ranked 24th with 36 sacks and 20th with 20 turnovers last season, and now it will be without DE J.J. Watt with no clear replacement.

The Cardinals drafted OLB BJ Ojulari in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Analysis: The Cardinals are hoping Ojulari will help fill the void after DE J.J. Watt retired. Even if he fills the void, which is a lot to ask of a rookie, the Cardinals' defense has a long way to go. After all, it finished 24th with 36 sacks and 20th with 20 takeaways last season. Worst of all, it gave up 26.4 points per game -- the second-most in the league. With no other significant additions, it will likely be another disappointing season for Cardinals D/ST.

Analysis: The Cardinals have struggled against two strong passing attacks -- the Chiefs and Raiders -- to start the year, and they won't get any relief in Week 3 against the Rams. QB Matthew Stafford threw for 272 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions last week against the Falcons. He now has five interceptions through two games, so the Cardinals have some upside. Still, the Cardinals haven't given us a reason to believe they can contain the Rams, so fantasy managers should look elsewhere.

Analysis: The Cardinals defense will likely struggle to repeat last season's pass-rushing performance, as DE Chandler Jones -- who accounted for 10.5 sacks last year -- left for Las Vegas in free agency. It will help that DE J.J. Watt enters the season at full health, but he has posted just 10 sacks over his last 31 games, signaling that he may not reach All Pro status again. Fantasy managers don't need to reach to draft the Cardinals; they play the Chiefs, Raiders and Rams to start the year.

Analysis: It's a good early sign for the Cardinals, especially with S Budda Baker fully cleared after suffering a concussion during the playoff loss to the Rams. Analysis: It was a solid performance from the Arizona D/ST, though with one sack and one takeaway it didn't result in much fantasy production. The unit has only two takeaways and eight sacks across the past four games while giving up 25.5 points. Seattle erupted for 51 points last week against the Lions, as the offense finally clicked since the return of QB Russell Wilson. The Cardinals D/ST is a middling option for Week 18 with limited upside based on its recent form.

The Cardinals allowed 346 yards and 22 points during the Week 16 loss to the Colts and play the Cowboys on Sunday.

Analysis: It wasn't a bad on-field performance from the Arizona D/ST, but it offered minimal fantasy production with two sacks and zero takeaways. It outlook doesn't improve much this weekend, as Dallas is coming off a 56-point performance last week. QB Dak Prescott has has his full complement of weapons, making the Cardinals D/ST a poor option for Week 17.

The unit now has only one takeaway over the past two games and struggles against the run (4.6 YPC), which is significant when going up against RB Jonathan Taylor. The Cardinals D/ST should play better after hitting rock bottom last week but is a subpar option for Week 16.

Analysis: The Arizona D/ST didn't help itself much with zero takeaways and three sacks, as QB Matthew Stafford and Los Angeles' wideouts routinely burned the secondary. Fortunes change quickly though, as Detroit is up next after getting steamrolled by Denver last week. The Cardinals D/ST is one of the top fantasy options for Week 15.

The Cardinals D/ST has been a strong unit this season but is a below-average option for Week 14.

Analysis: Arizona won't ease into the schedule in 2020 as it faces the top team from the NFC last season.
