Pre-Season Outlook

Running backs who can't crack 4.6 seconds in the 40-yard dash seldom get a chance to start in the NFL, but Skattebo might be an exception. The Giants took him early in the fourth round of the 2025 Draft, 105th overall, betting that Skattebo's incredible 2024 campaign at Arizona State -- 2,316 yards from scrimmage, 24 TDs, 5th in Heisman voting -- foreshadows success in the NFL. At 5-foot-10, 219 pounds, his powerful running through traffic and exceptional short-area burst will be the keys to professional success. Skattebo's quick decision-making and impressive explosiveness (39.5-inch vertical, 123-inch broad jump) help him play faster than his timed speed suggests. He runs with fierce determination, keeps a low center of gravity to absorb hits, and makes it tough for defenders to bring him down after he reaches the second level. While second-year pro Tyrone Tracy may enter training camp atop the Giants' depth chart, Skattebo's unusual combination of power running and receiving skills gives him a shot to unseat Tracy at some point this year.
