Analysis: The Lions have one sack and one interception through two weeks, as their defense continues to lack upside for fantasy purposes. Things will only get worse now that S C.J. Gardner-Johnson (pectoral) is out for the season. There is a decent floor for Lions D/ST this week because the Falcons have committed to the ground game, lowering their chances of running up the score. However, fantasy managers should still aim for more upside outside of deep leagues.

The Lions recorded a pick-six and no sacks in the 21-20 win over the Chiefs in Week 1.

Analysis: The Lions were gifted with plenty of drops by Chiefs receivers, including one that fell into S Brian Branch's hands. Branch returned it for a touchdown. The Lions have an excellent opportunity against the Seahawks, who will be without RT Abraham Lucas (kneecap) and will likely be without LT Charles Cross (toe). The Lions aren't the most talented unit, but there's certainly enough upside for DFS purposes and deeper leagues.

The Lions are expected to be fully healthy for the Week 1 matchup versus the Chiefs.

Analysis: The Lions have turned over most of their secondary this offseason, and the projection isn't convincing, although C.J. Gardner-Johnson brings major upside for fantasy purposes. If DE Aidan Hutchinson takes the next step, too, then this defense will have some streaming upside in 2023. They aren't startable in Week 1, however, as the Chiefs are hosting the opener and QB Patrick Mahomes is still under center.

CB Emmanuel Moseley (knee) is on the PUP list to begin training camp.

Analysis: Moseley tore his ACL last October and is still unavailable. The Lions signed him to a one-year, $6 million contract, so they believe he'll be a starter once he's at full health. However, it remains to be seen if he'll be ready Week 1 as the Lions roll out a new secondary that features CBs Cameron Sutton and CB C.J. Gardner-Johnson (knee) as well. The Lions will be tough to trust early in the season anyway, as they face the Chiefs and Seahawks through the first two weeks.

Analysis: The Lions' defense put together one of its best performances of the season, but unfortunately, it will likely play without top CB Jeff Okudah (concussion) in Week 12 versus the Bills. This unit ranks last in the league with 28.2 points allowed per game, and it won't fare well against the Bills, who rank second with 28.1 points per game. Perhaps there's some upside because the Bills have given up a league-high 18 turnovers, but that's only worth the risk in large DFS tournaments, if that.

Analysis: The Lions have allowed a league-high 29.3 points per game this year while posting just 10 turnovers (19th). They are vulnerable against the pass and run games, and the latter could get them into trouble against QB Daniel Jones and RB Saquon Barkley. There's some upside because Jones has been sacked a whopping 28 times while averaging just 20.7 points per game, but this unit still has too much risk outside of large DFS tournaments.

Analysis: The Lions have now forced a turnover in seven straight games, but this was their first multi-turnover performance. Nevertheless, they still have allowed a league-high 29.3 points per game this year. They have plenty of upside considering Bears QB Justin Fields has been sacked 33 times -- the second-most in the league. However, that comes with plenty of risk, too, as the Bears have scored at least 29 points in three straight games now that Fields has started running like crazy.

Analysis: The Lions have allowed a league-high 32.1 points per game while forcing just six turnovers -- the third-fewest in the league. This is the worst defense in the league, so nobody should trust it in season-long fantasy leagues. There's an argument for this unit in large DFS tournaments, however, as the Packers have scored just 18.1 points per game (26th) while coughing up 10 turnovers (14th).

The Lions recorded two sacks and a fumble recovery in the 24-6 loss to the Cowboys in Week 7.

Analysis: The Lions have allowed a league-high 32.3 points per game in addition to a league-low nine sacks and just five takeaways (29th). Statistically, this is the worst defense in the league. The Dolphins have failed to score more than 17 points in four straight games. However, QB Tua Tagovailoa is another week removed from his concussions and both WRs Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill are healthy. The Lions D/ST shouldn't be on fantasy radars this week.

The Lions recorded an interception and no sacks in the 29-0 loss to the Patriots in Week 5.

Analysis: The Lions allowed rookie QB Bailey Zappe to complete 81 percent of his passes for 188 yards and a touchdown. The team now ranks last in the league with 34 points allowed per game, and they have recorded just four takeaways and a league-low seven sacks. This unit has little fantasy appeal against the Cowboys, who should get QB Dak Prescott back this week.

The Lions recorded a fumble recovery in the 48-45 loss to the Seahawks in Week 4.

Analysis: The Lions rank last in the league with 35.3 points allowed per game, and they have contributed just three takeaways and seven sacks. There are rare circumstances where we'll be confident starting Lions D/ST. It could pay off in Week 5 against the Patriots, who will likely start either Brian Hoyer (head) or fourth-round rookie Bailey Zappe. The Patriots have averaged just 18.5 points per game, but there's still risk for a Lions defense that has struggled this badly.

Analysis: The Lions rank last in the league with 31 points allowed per game, and they have added just seven sacks and two takeaways. The Lions' secondary can't handle the Seahawks' tandem of WRs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and RB Rashaad Penny probably outmatches their front seven, too. Still, the Seahawks have averaged just 15.7 points per game, so Lions D/ST should have a solid floor for fantasy purposes. This unit is still better for DFS purposes than season-long formats, though.

Analysis: The Lions are turning some heads in the NFL, but their defense is still highly suspect. It has allowed 65 points through two games -- the second highest mark in the league. It's intriguing that their pass rush started heating up last week, but the Vikings' passing attack may be too much to handle still, as WR Justin Jefferson is backed up by WR Adam Thielen and RB Dalvin Cook. Stay away from Lions D/ST.

The Lions posted a sack and no takeaways in the 38-35 loss to the Eagles in Week 1.

Analysis: The Eagles' offense is quite good, but this was still an unfortunate performance regardless. We can expect a lot of these performances from the Lions moving forward, but the Week 2 matchup against Washington has some intrigue at least. The Commanders turned the ball over three times in their 28-22 win over the Jaguars in Week 1. The Lions have some upside in Week 2 as a result, but they're one of the more risky plays.

DE Romeo Okwara (Achilles) will miss the first four games of the season after being placed on the reserve/PUP list.

Analysis: Okwara's last healthy season was in 2020 when he recorded 10 sacks. The Lions are hoping DE Aidan Hutchinson -- the second overall pick -- and DE Charles Harris -- who accumulated 7.5 sacks last year -- will be able to provide a fierce enough pass rush. Still, this defense ranked 31st last year with 27.5 points allowed per game and didn't do enough to overcome that in 2022. They're off the fantasy radar for now.

Analysis: Okwara is recovering from the torn Achilles he suffered last year in Week 4, and it's unclear when he'll be ready to take the field. It's likely to be another difficult year for the Detroit D/ST, and its first test of the preseason will come Aug. 12 in Atlanta.

Analysis: Detroit predictably struggled across the board last year, and the defense wasn't significantly addressed during free agency. However, the Lions added major talent in the NFL Draft with DE Aiden Hutchinson (first round), DE Joshua Paschal (second round) and S Kerby Joseph (third round). The Detroit D/ST shouldn't be expected to be a factor in fantasy in 2022, but it's future outlook has improved given the young talent.

Analysis: RB Rashaad Penny ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns while WR DK Metcalf caught two scores as the Detroit D/ST totaled one sack and zero takeaways. Green Bay comes into the regular-season finale having already wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the NFC, so there's nothing to play for this weekend. Analysis: The Detroit D/ST gave up 7.7 yards per pass but allowed only 14 first downs while picking up three sacks and a takeaway. The unit has enjoyed a decent second half after a poor start to the season, though it remains off the fantasy radar. QB Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have shown a bit more life of late, though the offense clearly isn't fully in sync. Wilson still show relatively strong ball security, so the Lions D/ST is a poor option for Week 17.

The Lions allowed 398 yards and 12 points during the Week 15 win over the Cardinals and play the Falcons on Sunday.

Analysis: The Detroit D/ST held Arizona to a single touchdown and two field goals in a dominating performance. It was clearly the best showing of the year for the Lions, which makes it even more unlikely to be replicated. QB Matt Ryan has struggled to find any consistency this season, though RB Cordarrelle Patterson has turned into a legitimate weapon. The Lions D/ST could have some low-level streaming appeal in this matchup but is a risky option for Week 16.

The Lions allowed 358 yards and 38 points during the Week 14 loss to the Broncos and play the Cardinals on Sunday.

Analysis: The Detroit D/ST had two sacks and zero takeaways as Denver rushed for 184 yards with a 4.7 YPC in the blowout. The schedule doesn't get any easier this weekend with QB Kyler Murry and Arizona coming to town. WR DeAndre Hopkins (knee) is out, but his absence shouldn't make a significant difference for this matchup. The Lions D/ST is off the fantasy radar again for Week 15.

Analysis: Detroit held a 23-6 lead through three quarters, but QB Mitchell Trubisky tossed three touchdowns during the fourth quarter to flip the script.
