Four touches in loss
Elliott rushed once for eight yards and caught all three of his targets for 16 yards in Monday's 34-10 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Elliott played 26 of the Cowboys' 83 offensive snaps Monday, with his 31 percent share being an increase from the 21 percent he handled in the Week 10 loss to the Eagles. Despite the bump in playing time, the veteran running back was unable to produce much in the way of relevant statistics. With teammate Rico Dowdle operating as the clear-cut No. 1 running back in Dallas, Elliott's fantasy utility has all but disappeared.

Coughs up fumble in blowout loss
Elliott (suspension) rushed six times for 22 yards while losing a fumble in Sunday's 34-6 loss to Philadelphia.
Analysis: Elliott returned from a team-mandated one-game suspension to resume his backup role for the Cowboys. The veteran tailback didn't make a case to earn more carries upon his return, losing one of four Dallas fumbles Sunday. With Rico Dowdle handling the lead-back role, it is safe to leave Elliott on waivers ahead of next Monday's tilt against Houston.

Available in Week 10
Head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Elliott will be available for Dallas' Week 10 matchup against the Eagles after he didn't travel with the team to Atlanta last week for disciplinary reasons, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Elliott was a healthy inactive for the Week 9 loss to the Falcons, but McCarthy's comments Monday suggest that the running back won't face any further discipline from the team. The 2016 first-round pick has missed several team meetings throughout the season and has expressed frustration with his role, playing behind Rico Dowdle, fullback Hunter Luepke and recently Dalvin Cook. Though he'll be back in the fold for Sunday's game, look for Elliott to serve as little more than a depth piece who…read more

Healthy scratch as expected
Elliott (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Elliott will be a healthy scratch for the first time in his career. He has reportedly missed several team meetings throughout the season, with the most recent being Friday afternoon, per Jane Slater of NFL Network. As a result, Elliott and the team came to a mutual decision for him to not travel for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons. Rico Dowdle should see a heavy workload in Elliott's absence, while Dalvin Cook should also see some touches.

In line to be inactive Sunday
Elliott is expected to be a healthy scratch for Sunday's game in Atlanta, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Archer cited disciplinary reasons as the reason for Elliott not making the trip from Dallas to Atlanta this weekend. As a result, Rico Dowdle is set to lead the Cowboys backfield Week 9, while practice-squad elevation Dalvin Cook and, to a lesser extent, Hunter Luepke will be the options behind Dowdle.

Scores TD in Dowdle's absence
Elliott rushed 10 times for 34 yards and a touchdown while catching his only target for four yards in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: Elliott took advantage of Rico Dowdle (illness) being a late scratch, as the former led the Cowboys in carries and rushing yards while Dalvin Cook mustered just 12 rushing yards on six attempts. Elliott powered in a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give the Cowboys a 7-3 lead, but Dallas fell behind in the third quarter and had to abandon the run. Another poor showing
Elliott carried the ball eight times for 17 yards in Sunday's loss to the Lions.
Analysis: His longest gain went for only six yards as Elliott once again failed to make any kind of impact. The veteran back is averaging a career-low 3.0 yards per carry and has shown nothing that would suggest he's a threat to Rico Dowdle as Dallas' No. 1 RB. With the Cowboys on bye Week 7, they could use the break to evaluate their backfield and decide whether or not Dalvin Cook, who currently is stashed on the practice squad, deserves a look in Elliott's place Week 8 against the 49ers.

Firmly in No. 2 role
Elliott carried the ball six times for 17 yards and failed to catch his only target in Sunday's win over the Steelers.
Analysis: The veteran RB took a back seat to Rice Dowdle, who amassed 114 yards from scrimmage and a receiving TD on 22 touches. Elliott has shown very little this season in his return to Dallas, managing just 3.3 yards per carry, and he hasn't seen double-digit touches since Week 1. While he still has some utility for the Cowboys due to his pass protection skills, there's little reason for fantasy GMs to give Elliott a roster spot, even in the deepest formats.

Cleared from injury report
Elliott doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: Elliott was added to the injury report Thursday, with his limited participation chalked up to dehydration. He unsurprisingly returned to full participation a day later and now will suit up against the Steelers, likely in a secondary role behind Rico Dowdle. Elliott played less than 20 percent of snaps on offense the past two weeks, averaging 4.0 carries for 17.5 yards and 1.0 catch for 5.5 yards.

Dehydration cited for LP
Elliott was limited at Thursday's practice due to dehydration, Joe Hoyt of AllDLLS.com reports.
Analysis: Elliott was one of two Cowboys (also, WR Ryan Flournoy) tacked on to the injury report Thursday for such a reason. Typically, dehydration is a short-term concern, but his listing on Friday's report bears watching to see if he may go into the weekend with a designation for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh. In his return to Dallas this season, Elliott has found the going tough, averaging 7.5 touches for 29.3 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring one TD on the ground through four contests.

Six total touches in win
Elliott rushed five times for 19 yards and secured his only target for five yards in the Cowboys' 20-15 win over the Giants on Thursday night.
Analysis: Elliott saw markedly less opportunity on the ground than backfield mate Rico Dowdle, who logged 11 carries. Eight of Elliott's rushing yards also came on one tote, underscoring how tough the sledding was on the ground for the veteran back. Elliott has now seen fewer carries than Dowdle in three consecutive contests, dimming the former's already suspect fantasy outlook considerably heading into a Week 5 road matchup against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Limited to three carries
Elliott had three carries for six yards in Sunday's 28-25 loss to the Ravens. He added one reception on two targets for six yards.
Analysis: The Cowboys didn't utilize their ground game much as they faced a significant deficit, but Elliott saw only four touches to Rico Dowdle's 11. Elliott has seen his opportunity drop in each week of the season, and he's picked up only 62 yards on the ground on 19 carries on the campaign. His workload could rebound in a positive game script, but it seems unlikely that he'll deliver much at this point in his career.

Poor showing in loss
Elliott carried the ball six times for 16 yards and caught two of three targets for 16 yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints.
Analysis: Rico Dowdle got the start in the backfield for the Cowboys, and while Elliott eventually saw a comparable workload (eight touches to Dowdle's 11), the veteran was less effective. So far, Elliott's return to Dallas hasn't gone well. He's averaged just 3.5 yards per carry through two games, and only a three-yard TD plunge in the opener has salvaged his fantasy production. Alternates possessions in Week 1
Elliott rushed the ball 10 times for 40 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-17 win over the Browns. He added two receptions for nine yards.
Analysis: Elliott was on the field for Dallas' first possession, but he alternated drives with Rico Dowdle for the entirety of the game. Elliott was the more efficient of the duo by averaging 4.0 yards per carry, and he also plowed into the end zone from three yards away late in the second quarter. Likely to split work Week 1
Elliott is expected to have a "pretty even split" of the reps out of the backfield with Rico Dowdle in Sunday's season opener in Cleveland, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Though the Cowboys could end up riding the hotter hand of the two backs as the game goes along, both Elliott and Dowdle look set to be part of the team's game plan to begin the contest. Pelissero adds that practice-squad member Dalvin Cook could factor into Dallas' backfield mix as soon as Week 2 against the Saints, but the Cowboys chose not to elevate Cook for Week 1, leaving Deuce Vaughn as the No. 3 option behind Elliott and Dowdle. Splitting first-team reps
Elliott continued to splits first-team reps with Rico Dowdle during the Cowboys' joint practice with the Rams on Thursday, Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com reports.
Analysis: After spending a season in New England and producing a career-low 3.5 yards per carry, Elliott returned to Dallas this offseason on a cheap, one-year contract, but the 29-year-old still appears headed for a significant workload. The Cowboys don't have a clear No. 1 option in the backfield following the departure of Tony Pollard, so Elliott and Dowdle seem primed to handle the majority of the carries, with Royce Freeman (groin) and 2023 sixth-round pick Deuce Vaughn (hamstring) also potentially…read more

Gets $1.75 million guaranteed
Elliott's one-year, $2 million contract with the Cowboys includes $1.75 million guaranteed, and he can earn up to $1 million more via incentives, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Elliott is expected to remain the Patriots' lead back for the final two games of the season after New England placed Rhamondre Stevenson (ankle) on injured reserve Wednesday.

Elliott (thigh) was listed as a limited participant on Monday's practice estimate.
Analysis: Elliott was nursing a thigh injury heading into this past Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Chargers, but he played through it and handled a season-high 21 touches, as Rhamondre Stevenson (ankle) exited in the first half. Stevenson was listed as a non-participant Monday and is unlikely to play against the Steelers on Thursday, so if Elliott can avoid a setback with his thigh, he's likely to draw the start in a Patriots backfield that also includes Ty Montgomery and JaMycal Hasty.

Elliott (thigh) rushed 17 times for 52 yards and caught four of five targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Chargers.
Analysis: Elliott took over as the lead back after Rhamondre Stevenson (ankle) exited in the first half. The former Dallas running back finished with season highs in both touches and scrimmage yards. Elliott (thigh) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
Analysis: Elliott was limited in practice this past week, but he'll give it a go Sunday against the 4-7 Chargers. While the Patriots' fluid QB situation, plus potentially rainy conditions, could lead to the team leaning toward the run as long as Sunday's game flow permits, Elliott (who has notched a total of 95 carries and 20 catches in 11 games to date) figures to continue to work behind top back Rhamondre Stevenson in Week 13, a context that limits his fantasy lineup utility to deeper formats.

Analysis: Elliott logged three consecutive limited sessions in practice this week and is officially listed as questionable, but the expectation is that he will suit up versus Los Angeles. He hasn't scored since Week 7, and while continuing to work behind top backfield option Rhamondre Stevenson, Elliott has handled double-digit carries in just three of 11 appearances on the season. Analysis: Elliott also had his reps capped Wednesday and may need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid carrying an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Chargers. Elliott rushed the ball nine times for 46 yards in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Giants. He added two receptions on two targets for six yards.
Analysis: Elliott saw his role spike in Week 10 prior to New England's bye, but that didn't remain the case Sunday against the Giants. Rhamondre Stevenson was particularly effective on the ground, leaving Elliott in more of a true change-of-pace role. Given the limited volume, he'll be reliant upon finding the end zone for the majority of his fantasy value.

Elliott carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards and caught both his targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: The 88 scrimmage yards were a season high for Elliott, as the Patriots went with a ground-heavy game plan that also saw Rhamondre Stevenson get 23 touches. Heading into New England's bye, the veteran RB has just 331 rushing yards and two TDs through 10 games as Stevenson's understudy, but Elliott could pop for bigger numbers in Week 12 against a Giants defense he has plenty of experience punishing from his Cowboys days.

Gets nine touches in Week 9
Elliott rushed six times for 17 yards and caught three of five targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: Elliott was bottled up on the ground while teammate Rhamondre Stevenson produced a 64-yard touchdown en route to a season-high 87 rushing yards. The former Dallas running back has reached 50 scrimmage yards in only one of nine games with the Patriots, and Elliott continues to cede the majority of backfield touches to Stevenson. Given his modest role in New England's low-octane offense, Elliott won't have much fantasy appeal in Week 10, even against the porous Colts defense in Frankfurt.

Efficient on ground in loss

Analysis: Elliott saw only three fewer carries than backfield mate Rhamondre Stevenson and was more efficient than the latter, averaging 5.1 yards per tote to his teammate's 3.9. Nevertheless, Elliott's lack of involvement in the passing game for the second straight contest and the snapping of his two-game touchdown streak led to a highly underwhelming fantasy afternoon for the accomplished veteran, which he'll aim to bounce back from in a Week 9 home matchup against the Commanders.

Rhamondre Stevenson left Sunday's game to get checked out for head and ankle injuries before returning and scoring New England's final touchdown of the day, but if he were unable to suit up in Week 7 against the Bills, Elliott could be in line to handle his largest workload of the season.

Logs 12 touches in loss
Elliott rushed eight times for 21 yards and brought in all four targets for 17 yards in the Patriots' 34-0 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
Analysis: Elliott logged the same amount of carries as Rhamondre Stevenson but enjoyed a much bigger presence in the passing game. Elliott has multiple receptions in three of the first five games of the season, but he's now averaged under 3.0 yards per carry on three occasions in that sample as well. The veteran back should have a chance at more efficient production in a Week 6 road matchup against the Raiders.

Continues to work behind Stevenson
Elliott logged 22 of a possible 55 snaps on offense in Sunday's 38-3 loss to the Cowboys, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: In the process, Elliott carried six times for 16 yards and caught two of his three targets for six yards. There had been some pregame speculation from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that Elliott (who carried 16 times for 80 yards in Week 3) could be in line to see an expanded workload Sunday against his former team, but fellow RB Rhamondre Stevenson started the contest and was on the field for 35 snaps en route to rushing 14 times for 30 yards while adding two receptions (on three targets) for 10…read more

Expected to see more work Sunday
Elliott is expected to see an increased role in the Patriots' backfield Sunday against the Cowboys, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: In the Patriots' Week 3 win over the Jets, Elliott logged 27 snaps and 16 carries for 80 yards, while Rhamondre Stevenson recorded 47 snaps and 19 carries for 59 yards. This time around, Rapoport suggests that Elliott could log "starter reps" versus his former team, though it's unclear if that means he'll take New England's first RB snap or if he'll simply be in line to see an uptick in touches in Week 4.

Gets season-high 16 carries
Elliott rushed 16 times for 80 yards and caught his only target for seven yards in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Jets.
Analysis: After rushing just 12 times for 42 yards across his first two games with the Patriots, Elliott topped both of those marks as New England went run-heavy in a defensive battle. He had three fewer carries than Rhamondre Stevenson but 21 more yards on the ground. Elliott will have plenty of motivation in Week 4 when the Patriots travel to Dallas to face his former team, but he'll likely remain limited to a complementary role behind Stevenson.

Logs five carries in Week 2
Elliott was on the field for 22 of 74 snaps on offense in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Dolphins en route to carrying five times for 13 yards, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Elliott, who wasn't targeted in the passing game in Sunday's contest, worked behind Rhamondre Stevenson (54 snaps), who carried 15 times for 50 yards and a TD while catching all three of his targets for 10 yards. Though there figures to be weeks where game planning and/or game flow will allow for Elliott to be more involved, he'll remain a hit-or-miss fantasy option as long as Stevenson is healthy and available.

Significant role in Week 1
Elliott rushed the ball seven times for 29 yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Eagles. He added five receptions on seven targets for 14 yards.
Analysis: Elliott entered the game on the Patriots' first offensive possession and maintained a significant role even after losing a fumble on the team's second drive. Rhamondre Stevenson started and still led the backfield with 18 total touches, though Elliott was the more effective back on the ground. The exact split in workload remains unclear moving forward, though it appears clear that Elliott will maintain a key role.

Sees work in passing game
During Tuesday's practice, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com relays that Elliott saw an uptick in work behind Rhamondre Stevenson, notably as a pass-catcher out of the team's backfield.
Analysis: Elliott was brought in by the Patriots to work in a complementary role behind Stevenson, the team's presumed lead back. In addition to providing New England with another short-yardage option, it looks like Elliott could factor in on passing downs as well. Though he caught just 17 passes in 15 games with the Cowboys last season, he recorded 47 catches in 2021. Works in team drills Thursday
Elliott was a full participant in team drills during Thursday's practice, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
Analysis: Per Lazar, Elliott looked like his old self Thursday, making his mark with impressive TD runs (from eight and two yards out) in red-zone drills. Though Elliott is projected to work behind returning lead back Rhamondre Stevenson this coming season, the former Cowboy figures to see his share of snaps and touches out of the Patriots backfield, where his ability in pass protection and in short-yardage situations should be welcome additions to the team's ground game.

Inking one-year deal with Pats
Elliott reached a one-year agreement Monday with the Patriots, which includes a $3 million base salary and a $1 million signing bonus, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. The contract can be worth up to $6 million factoring in incentives.
Analysis: After spending the first seven years of his career with the Cowboys, Elliott provides his new team with an experienced complementary option to work behind returning lead back Rhamondre Stevenson. Though the presence of Stevenson figures to cap Elliott's weekly workload, the 28-year-old could see enough early-down and short-yardage touches to merit fantasy attention in deeper formats. The Patriots are expected to sign Elliott on Monday to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Elliott was released by the Cowboys on March 15 and has been entertaining offers since, but it looks like the veteran running back has finally found a new home. The 28-year-old is coming off the least productive season of his career from a yardage standpoint and found himself as a secondary option behind Tony Pollard to end 2022, but he did record 12 rushing touchdowns, marking the fourth time he's reached double digits in his seven-year career. Narrows down preferred landing spots
Elliott, who was released by the Cowboys on March 15, hopes to sign with a new team by the end of next week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: According to Schefter, the running back has narrowed his preferred options down to the Eagles, Jets and Bengals. This past season with Dallas, Elliott recorded a career-low 876 rushing yards on 231 carries, but he did score 12 touchdowns in 15 games. With that in mind, wherever the 27-year-old lands, he should have a chance to make an impact as a pass protector and in short-yardage situations at a minimum for his new team.

Cut loose by Dallas
The Cowboys will officially release Elliott on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Dallas and Elliott had reportedly been discussing a contract renegotiation for weeks, but more recent reports suggested that a release would be the likely outcome for the 27-year-old running back. Elliott should find suitors in free agency, though likely at a price far, far less than what he's accustomed to playing under. With only Malik Davis on the roster behind a rehabbing Tony Pollard (leg), the Cowboys will need to draft or sign some backfield help in the coming weeks or months.

The Cowboys informed Elliott that he'll be released Wednesday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Elliott's release isn't official yet, but the running back is already expected to begin exploring his options elsewhere. The two-time NFL rushing leader will likely be designated as a post-June 1 cut, with his release leaving Tony Pollard (ankle) as the unquestioned No. 1 option in the Dallas backfield. Numbers decline in 2022
Elliott carried the ball 231 times for 876 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching 17 of 23 targets for 92 yards over 15 regular-season games in 2022.
Analysis: The 27-year-old running back failed to reach 1,000 scrimmage yards for the first time in his career, as Elliott ceded usage as a pass catcher to Tony Pollard (ankle) and saw his overall workload shrink as he also fell short of 250 touches for the first time. Struggles in defeat
Elliott rushed 10 times for 26 yards and caught two of four targets for seven yards in Sunday's 19-12 playoff loss to San Francisco.
Analysis: Elliott was unable to generate any running room against the 49ers' elite defensive front. The veteran back had to take over as the Cowboys' lone rushing option after Tony Pollard (leg) was carted off the field early in the second half, but he was unable to take advantage of the larger role. Stymied on ground in win
Elliott rushed 13 times for 27 yards and brought in one of two targets for nine yards in the Cowboys' 31-14 wild-card win over the Buccaneers on Monday night.
Analysis: Elliott has often derived his fantasy value from cashing in his red-zone opportunities, but absent those Monday night, he was limited to a middling performance. The veteran back logged two fewer carries than backfield mate Tony Pollard, and Dak Prescott vultured one red-zone rushing touchdown before Michael Gallup recorded a two-yard scoring grab in the third quarter after Elliott got the ball down to the two-yard line. Does little against Washington
Elliott carried the ball eight times for 10 yards and failed to catch either of his targets in Sunday's 26-6 loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: No Dallas running back gained more than 19 yards in what was an abysmal performance for the entire offense. Elliott completes his seventh NFL season with a career-low 876 rushing yards and 968 scrimmage yards, but his 12 rushing TDs helped keep his fantasy value afloat. Up next for the Cowboys is a date with the Buccaneers in the wild-card round, and with Dak Prescott's issues with interceptions continuing Sunday, Dallas could lean heavily on Elliott and Tony Pollard out of the backfield.

Elliott rushed 19 times for 37 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' 27-13 win over the Titans on Thursday night.
Analysis: Elliott's stat line underscores how difficult running room was to come by against a Titans defense that's been elite against ground attacks all season but that was also playing very short-handed Thursday. The veteran had a path to more touches than usual with Tony Pollard (thigh) inactive, but had it not been for Elliott's one-yard scoring run late in the first quarter, his night would have been a total fantasy washout. Elliott is in line to serve as the Cowboys' undisputed No. 1 back in Thursday's game against the Titans with Tony Pollard (thigh) listed as questionable but set to be inactive for the contest, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Pollard won't be officially ruled out for the contest until Dallas releases its inactive list 90 minutes before the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, but his absence frees up Elliott for more work after he handled no more than 52 percent of the Cowboys' snaps on offense in any of his six appearances since returning Week 11 from a two-game absence due to a right knee injury. Elliott rushed the ball 16 times for 58 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 40-34 loss to the Jaguars. He added two receptions on two targets for 13 yards.
Analysis: Elliott looked to be in line for a big game, as he tallied 41 total yards and a touchdown on Dallas' first two offensive possessions. However, he managed only 13 yards on seven carries in the second half to turn in a solid, yet unspectacular performance. Positively, Elliott remains a force near the goal line, as he now has at least one touchdown in seven consecutive games and 10 overall on the season.

Gets into end zone Thursday
Elliott carried the ball 16 times for 92 yards and a touchdown and caught his only target for three yards in Thursday's 28-20 win over the Giants.
Analysis: He scored Dallas' only TD of the first half on a six-yard run early in the second quarter, and Elliott out-gained Tony Pollard for the first time since Week 6 while leading the club in rushing. The 92 rushing yards were a season high for Zeke, and he's scored six touchdowns over his last four games, although he was sidelined for two games in the middle of that stretch with a knee injury. Analysis: Elliott mentioned wanting to take a long-term view with his health, something that was discussed before the Cowboys' Week 9 bye after he missed a Week 8 win over Chicago. The Cowboys have a more-than-capable backup in Tony Pollard, another factor perhaps pointing toward caution, but it may ultimately come down to how Elliott feels after practicing Thursday and Friday. Another absence would put Pollard in the RB1 picture for fantasy purposes, with Malik Davis on hand for light work in a backup…read more

Returning to practice
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said that Elliott (knee) will return to practice Wednesday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Elliott wasn't on the field for the Cowboys' unofficial practice session Monday, but he'll resume handling on-field reps Wednesday as Dallas kicks off Week 10 prep in earnest. Though Elliott has been sidelined since Week 8 due to an MCL sprain, the Cowboys have offered optimism that Elliott could be available Sunday versus Green Bay following a bye week. Doesn't practice Monday
Coach Mike McCarthy said Elliott (knee) won't practice Monday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Per Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Elliott said Monday that the swelling in his knee had gone down over the Cowboys' Week 9 bye, and he hopes to return to practice during Week 10 prep. However, the running back admitted he doesn't know when he'll be back in pads and added that he'll have to wear a brace on his knee when he returns to football activities. Seeking return in Week 10
Elliott (knee/thigh) is aiming to return to action following the Cowboys' Week 9 bye, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: On the heels of a Week 7 win against the Lions, Elliott was diagnosed with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee and a bruised thigh, which didn't allow him to practice last week and ultimately resulted in his first absence of the campaign Sunday versus the Bears. With the team's midseason respite on tap, though, he relayed after Sunday's game that he'll continue to rest, but he'll "definitely be busy this week making sure I'm doing everything I can to make my knee ready" for a Week 10 road…read more

Sidelined in Week 8
Elliott (knee/thigh) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bears, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Elliott will miss his first game since Week 15 of the 2020 season after he failed to practice in any capacity this week while recovering from a Grade 2 right MCL sprain and a thigh bruise. With Elliott out of the lineup for at least this weekend, Tony Pollard should have an uncontested path to the lead role out of the Dallas backfield. The Cowboys are on bye Week 9, so Elliott may only miss one game due to his injuries before Dallas returns to action Nov. 13 in Green Bay.

Listed as doubtful
Elliott (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against Chicago, Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys want to see Elliott on Saturday before ruling him out, but everything points in that direction with the team heavily favored to beat the Bears ahead of a Week 9 bye. Elliott didn't practice at all this week, and his role likely would be scaled back in the unlikely event he plays. Tony Pollard is expected to get the start, with Malik Davis and/or Qadree Ollison coming up from the practice squad to provide depth.

Not expected to play Week 8
Elliott (knee/thigh) is not expected to suit up Sunday versus the Bears, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Elliott is reportedly expected to miss some time due to a Grade 2 right MCL sprain and thigh bruise, though coach Mike McCarthy wouldn't rule him out entirely, saying the 27-year-old has a chance to play Sunday as long as he can practice Saturday, per Hill. That means for the status of Elliott, who began the week with back-to-back missed practices, reports out of Dallas on Saturday could be more significant than Friday's actual injury report, as long as the latter doesn't officially rule him…read more

Spectator for Thursday's practice
Elliott (knee/thigh) won't participate in Thursday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Instead, Elliott will take part in rehab work off on the side while he manages an MCL sprain in his right knee in addition to a thigh bruise. The historically durable Elliott won't necessarily need to practice to suit up Sunday against the Bears, but his lack of practice activity on consecutive days doesn't bode well for his chances of handling a normal workload even if he gains clearance for the Week 8 matchup. If that ends up being the case, Tony Pollard could be in line for his biggest…read more

Dealing with sprained MCL
Elliott, who won't practice Wednesday, is tending to a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee and a thigh bruise that he sustained during this past Sunday's win against the Lions, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Elliott played through most of last season with a torn PCL in his right knee, racking up more than 1,000 yards on the ground for the fourth time in six pro campaigns. This time around, he may not be so lucky, however. Elliott told Jon Machota of The Athletic on Wednesday that he's dealing with stiffness in his right knee and is unsure if he'll be able to suit up this Sunday against the Bears. Not practicing Wednesday
Elliott (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Elliott will work off to the side with the rehab group after he was forced to briefly exit Sunday's win over the Lions with a right knee injury. His activity level in practices Thursday and Friday will need to be monitored, as that could be the largest determining factor in Elliott's status for the Cowboys' matchup against the Bears in Week 8. Tony Pollard would stand to handle a larger workload if Elliott ends up limited or has to sit out Sunday.

May have bruised knee
Elliott said after Sunday's 24-6 win versus the Lions that he believes he has "a contusion on" his right knee, which forced him to the sideline for a few plays just before halftime, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "I still have to go back and talk to the trainers."
Analysis: Elliott took a direct hit to his right knee during the play in question and limped to the sideline, but he was able to retain his usual workload after halftime, finishing the game with 15 carries for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, No. 2 running back Tony Pollard notched 83 yards on 12 rushes and hauled in both targets for 26 yards. Pair of rushing TDs in win
Elliott rushed 15 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys' 24-6 win over the Lions on Sunday.
Analysis: Elliott led the Cowboys in carries, notably outpacing Tony Pollard by three carries and also benefitting from a pair of gimme rush attempts from the one-yard line that he cashed in. Elliott now has three rushing TDs in the last two games, and although his passing game work has all but dried up thus far this season, he retains some solid scoring upside going into a Week 8 home matchup against the Bears.

Runs hard on SNF
Elliott rushed 13 times for 81 yards and a touchdown while catching his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 26-17 loss to Philadelphia.
Analysis: Elliott put together a vintage performance and led the Cowboys in all rushing categories despite the losing effort. The veteran was beginning to show some wear after a couple of high-volume, low-efficiency games in a row, so his game-high mark of 6.2 yards per rush was a welcome sight. Fellow tailback Tony Pollard finished with two less carries and was uncharacteristically less efficient than Zeke. Sluggish again Sunday
Elliott carried the ball 22 times for 78 yards in Sunday's 22-10 win over the Rams.
Analysis: He failed to see a target, and his longest run went for only 12 yards, leaving Zeke to take a back seat to the explosive Tony Pollard (86 yards and a TD on only eight totes) once again. Elliott's touch volume has kept his fantasy value afloat to some extent, but he's averaging only 3.8 yards per carry and has added little as a receiver, giving him little momentum heading into a big Week 6 clash with the Eagles.

Good volume but mediocre returns
Elliott ran for 49 yards on 19 carries while catching two passes for 32 yards on two targets in a win over Washington on Sunday.
Analysis: The Washington defense showed a lot of respect to the Dallas ground game Sunday, which was unfortunate for Elliott's fantasy investors but played a big role in why Cooper Rush was able to produce efficiently as a passer in the 25-10 win. Washington succeeded in its attempt to sell out against the run, but the fact it still lost shows Elliott did his part in the win. Tony Pollard was similarly held to six yards on eight carries. Records first touchdown
Elliott rushed the ball 15 times for 73 yards and a touchdown and caught his only target for two yards in Monday's 23-16 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Elliott had an impressive primetime showing, recording both his first run of more than 20 yards and also his first touchdown of the season. The former came on a pitch play to the left side of the line and the latter on a one-yard plunge late in the third quarter. Despite the positive performance, Elliott only narrowly held the touch advantage over Tony Pollard, tallying 16 total opportunities to Pollard's 13. Through three games, Elliott has 178 rushing yards on 40 carries.

Little room to run in Week 2
Elliott carried the ball 15 times for 53 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: He also caught one of two targets but lost four yards on the reception. Zeke led Dallas in rushing yards but was less effective than Tony Pollard, who gained 98 scrimmage yards and a TD on 13 touches. Elliott has yet to have a breakout performance in 2022, but he could get his chance in Week 3 against a Giants defense that just got gashed for 102 yards and a 6.8 YPC by Christian McCaffrey.

Elliott rushed 10 times for 52 yards and caught one pass for a loss of three yards in Sunday's 19-3 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Elliott looked to be running well with the opportunities he got, but none of his teammates decided to show up in this primetime matchup. To make matters worse, the Cowboys lost Dak Prescott (thumb) late in the contest, and he has already been ruled out for several weeks at a minimum. Likely won't play in preseason
Elliott isn't expected to suit up for any of the Cowboys' preseason games, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "This is my seventh year (in the NFL). I've seen a lot of football. I don't think I need a preseason game, especially with the joint practices (with the Broncos and Chargers)," Elliott said this week.
Analysis: The decision to hold Elliott out of exhibition action isn't a surprising one, especially considering he played through a knee injury most of last year. The 27-year-old appears to be fully healthy in camp and ready to rebound after posting a pedestrian 4.2 yards per carry and a career-low 58.9 rushing yards per game in 2021, but Zeke is only 62 touches short of 2,000 for his career and it's fair to wonder exactly how much tread he has left on his tires.

Still focal point of backfield
Elliott will remain the clear lead back for the Cowboys even if Tony Pollard sees increased touches, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. "[Zeke] has to be the focal point," owner/GM Jerry Jones said Saturday on the NFL Network.
Analysis: While this isn't a big surprise, it does seem to rule out the possibility of Elliott falling into a timeshare with Pollard, who has been more efficient and explosive with his touches over the last three seasons. In particular, Elliott's skills in pass protection would seem to ensure he'll retain a three-down role, while Pollard has seen reps as a slot receiver early in training camp as the Cowboys try to figure out ways to get the ball into his hands more often. 'Looks great' during workouts
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that Elliot (knee) "looks great" during Dallas' offseason workouts, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Elliot played through a partially torn PCL during the 2021 campaign, but he's expected to be fully healthy by training camp. McCarthy added that the veteran running back was clocked at 22 MPH during a workout Tuesday, but the team hasn't been doing any contact drills. Plays through knee injury in 2021
Elliott said after Sunday's 23-17 wild-card loss to the 49ers that he played through a partially torn PCL during the 2021 season, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: After doing just enough in Week 18 to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the fourth time in six pro campaigns, Elliott didn't fare as well in Dallas' sole playoff game, eking out 31 yards on 12 carries and gathering in one of four targets for no yards. However, the team elevated JaQuan Hardy and Ito Smith from the practice squad Saturday, indicating Elliott may take a step back or not have a role at all in the regular-season finale. Shut down by Cards
Elliott carried the ball nine times for 16 yards and caught one of two targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Cardinals.
Analysis: The Cowboys' ground game was stuffed all day by the Cards, as Dak Prescott wound up leading Dallas in rushing with only 20 yards. Unlike Tony Pollard, who racked up 49 receiving yards, Elliott couldn't get anything going through the air either. The poor performance leaves him 85 rushing yards short of his fourth career season with 1,000, and given that Dallas won't have much to play for in Week 18 against Philadelphia, Elliott may not get many touches to go after the milestone.

The 26-year-old has seen his production dip in the second half of the season while battling injuries and losing some touches to Tony Pollard. Records 19 touches in win
Elliott rushed 16 times for 52 yards and a touchdown and brought in three of four targets for 20 yards in the Cowboys' 21-6 win over the Giants on Sunday.
Analysis: Elliott's 13-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter served as the first points of the afternoon and qualified as his first trip to the end zone since Week 12 against the Raiders. The multi-time Pro Bowler still couldn't break the 60-yard mark on the ground, however, a feat he surprisingly hasn't accomplished since Week 6 against the Patriots. Elliott ran for 45 yards on 12 carries and caught one pass for 15 yards on six targets against Washington on Sunday.
Analysis: Elliott played with a knee brace in this game, which ESPN reporter Todd Archer suspected was a first for the running back this season despite the fact he's been managing discomfort for several weeks. Facing restricted rep count
Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged Friday that Elliott has been on a rep count in games for the past month while the running back continues to manage a knee injury that first cropped up in Week 4, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. "It's part of how we want to play," McCarthy said, while also noting that he believes the Cowboys' 10-day break prior to the team's Week 14 game against Washington will be beneficial for Elliott, according to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.
Analysis: Elliott's restricted snap counts have been evident just by looking at his recent game logs. Including Thursday's 27-17 win over the Saints, Elliott hasn't played more than 70 percent of the Cowboys' offensive snaps in five straight games after topping that percentage in all but two of Dallas' first seven contests. Analysis: There have been rumblings about ongoing knee stiffness for Elliott, but his lack of success on the ground Thursday can almost certainly be attributed to the Saints' stout run defense more than anything else. The multi-time Pro Bowler gained 10 of his yards on one carry, leaving him just under 3.0 yards per tote on his other 12 attempts. No intention of resting knee
Elliott indicated Sunday that no one on the Cowboys' training or coaching staffs had approached him about sitting out a game to give his knee a chance to heal, Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports. "No one has come to me and asked me to rest," Elliott said. "If they bring it up to me, I've just got to go with what they think is best for the team, and leave it at that."
Analysis: The running back originally injured his knee Week 4 against the Panthers, but he tweaked it Week 11 against Kansas City and his rushing performance has noticeably declined since then. There had been talk Elliott might be inactive for Thursday's game against the Saints' top-ranked run defense, but if the Cowboys are considering such a plan they apparently haven't shared it with Zeke. Analysis: Though Dallas didn't hold an official practice as it begins Week 12 prep, the team's estimation of Elliott as a limited participant is a reassuring sign of his chances of being ready to go by the time Thursday's game against the Raiders arrives. Elliott carried the ball nine times for 32 yards and caught all six of his targets for 36 yards in Sunday's 19-9 loss to Kansas City, but he briefly left the game with a lower-body injury, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Elliott rushed 14 times for 41 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 43-3 win over the Falcons. He also caught all three of his targets for 15 yards, ran in a two-point conversion, threw a four-yard pass and lost a fumble.
Analysis: Elliott was a key contributor in Dallas' dominant second quarter, during which the Cowboys outscored the Falcons 29-0. He powered in touchdowns from one and two yards out and also ran in a two-point conversion, demonstrating his short-yardage prowess. Elliott's up to seven rushing touchdowns this season, and he has now produced at least eight scrimmage touchdowns in each of his first six NFL campaigns. Ready to play
Elliott (knee) has been removed from the injury report for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Elliott briefly exited the Week 9 loss to Denver with a knee bruise, but it ultimately was a blowout loss that seemed to be the bigger factor in his season-low 53 percent snap share. His ability to practice this week and shed the injury designation suggests Elliott will return to his usual role against a subpar Atlanta defense.

Reps capped Thursday
Elliott (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Though Elliott's reps were capped for the second day in a row while he tends to a bruised right knee, the Cowboys haven't suggested that his availability for Sunday's game against the Falcons is in any question. Even so, Elliott may need to upgrade to full participation Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

Limited by knee injury
Elliott (knee) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: In the Cowboys' Week 9 loss to the Broncos, Elliott exited the contest for a spell due to a bruised right knee. He ended up finishing with a season-low snap share (53 percent) and carry count (11), but he still managed 76 yards from scrimmage with the benefit of three catches. Reserve running back Tony Pollard didn't benefit with Elliott hobbled -- five touches for 43 total yards -- as the Cowboys ran a pass-happy attack in the second half in an attempt to erase a huge deficit. Hobbled against Broncos
Elliott recorded 10 rushes for 51 yards and a two-point conversion in Sunday's 30-16 loss to the Broncos. He added three receptions for 25 yards.
Analysis: Elliott dealt with a contusion to his right knee during the game. The Cowboys also sported a significant deficit throughout the afternoon, which limited him to only four rushes and one reception in the second half. Even so, Elliott did manage to rip off gains of 21, 11 and 10 yards to make good use of his limited opportunity. Assuming he's fully healthy, Elliott should return to a significant workload in Week 10 against Atlanta, though his practice participation leading up to the game will be…read more

Returns to Sunday's game
Elliott, who left Sunday's game against the Broncos with a right knee contusion, was subsequently able to return to the contest, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Suffers right knee contusion
Elliott was forced out of Sunday's game against the Broncos with a right knee contusion, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

Posts 73 total yards in win
Elliott rushed 16 times for 50 yards and caught four of six targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 20-16 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: The Cowboys' air attack stole the show on Sunday Night Football, led by backup Cooper Rush and a trio of strong wideout performances. Elliott still led the team in total backfield production and out-touched Tony Pollard 20 to eight. This was the first time since Week 2 that Dallas' lead back did not eclipse 100 total yards from scrimmage. Elliott will look to bounce back in that regard against the Broncos in Week 9.

Tops 100 scrimmage yards again
Elliott carried the ball 17 times for 69 yards and caught seven of nine targets for 50 yards in Sunday's 35-29 overtime win over the Patriots.
Analysis: That's now four straight games in which Elliott has racked up more than 100 scrimmage yards -- this time thanks largely to a season-best performance as a receiver -- although his TD streak was snapped at four games. The 26-year-old is back in elite form, and heading into the Cowboys' Week 7 bye he's already amassed 521 rushing yards, 626 scrimmage yards and six total touchdowns.

Officially active Sunday
Elliott (ribs) is listed as active Sunday in New England.
Analysis: The Cowboys capped Elliott's practice reps this week as he dealt with the aftereffects of landing on a camera pylon on the sideline last Sunday against the Giants. The rib issue won't impact his ability to suit up Week 6, but it stands to reason he could yield some work to backup running back Tony Pollard. Still, Elliott has been Dallas' lead runner all season on his way to 18.8 touches for 101.4 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring six TDs in five contests.

Elliot (ribs), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Elliot was limited in practice during the week after landing on a camera pylon on the sideline during last week's win over the Giants. He was similarly limited in practice heading into that game, but wound up rushing for 110 yards on a season-high 21 carries, so there's precedent for the Cowboys leaning on him heavily even when he's banged up.

Listed as questionable
Elliott (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: Elliott seemingly made it through last week's game without aggravating a sore knee, but he did hurt his chest/rib area when he fell on a camera pylon on the sideline. He then managed limited practice participation Wednesday through Friday, suggesting his name won't be on the Cowboys' inactive list this Sunday. The team is scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, with Tony Pollard on hand for a three-down role in the unlikely event Elliott can't go.

Gets in another limited practice
Elliott (ribs) logged a limited practice Thursday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys continue to keep Elliott on a pitch count after he landed on a pylon camera as he was pushed out of bounds Week 5 against the Giants, hurting his back rib area in the process. He's undergoing a number of treatments to get right, namely heat therapy in an attempt to loosen up his injury. Dallas' camp hasn't expressed concern about Elliott being unavailable Sunday in New England, but there is a decent chance he enters the weekend with a 'questionable' designation.

Elliott (ribs) was limited at Wednesday's practice, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: In the process of getting pushed out of bounds in Sunday's win over the Giants, Elliott landed awkwardly on a pylon camera and remained on the turf for a spell, then missed a few snaps. He was able to return and completed the game en route to a second consecutive 100-yard effort on the ground. Feeling sore, should play Week 6
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Elliott is feeling soreness in his lower back and ribcage, but the running back is expected to be available for the team's Week 6 game in New England, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "I don't see [the injury] being an issue as far as him playing this week," McCarthy said.
Analysis: Elliott picked up the injury in question during the Cowboys' win over the Giants on Sunday, when he landed awkwardly on a camera pylon. On an encouraging note, McCarthy didn't express any concern about the knee issue Elliott nursed heading into the weekend, as the 26-year-old proceeded to compile 112 total yards and two touchdowns on 23 touches. After back-to-back 100-plus-yard games on the ground, Elliott now ranks third in the NFL in rushing.

Another 100-yard effort Sunday
Elliott (knee) rushed 21 times for 110 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' 44-20 win over the Giants on Sunday. He also brought in two of three targets for two yards and another score.
Analysis: Elliott shook off the knee issue that had been plaguing him during the past week to eclipse the century mark for the second straight game. The 26-year-old now has six total touchdowns over the last four contests when factoring in Sunday's four-yard scoring grab and 13-yard end-zone scamper, and his carries have now increased in every game since the opener. Analysis: Elliott logged limited practices Thursday and Friday and was officially listed as questionable by the Cowboys, but he's in uniform Sunday and in line to continue to pace the team's ground game, while Tony Pollard works in a complementary role. Analysis: Elliott logged two limited practices to close out the week, creating optimism that he'll be active for Sunday's game. While that still isn't official, all signs seemingly point to Elliott leading the Cowboys' backfield against the Giants. Analysis: Elliott closed out the week with back-to-back limited practices after sitting out Wednesday's session. He never sounded especially worried about his knee, noting Wednesday that he'd be able to play through any pain or discomfort. Analysis: Elliott is tending to some tightness in his knee this week, which caused him to sit out Wednesday. Analysis: Elliott certainly looked healthy in Sunday's win over Carolina, taking 20 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown. Tony Pollard also got double-digit touches, but that's been the norm recently even when Elliott has been healthy and productive. Elliott rushed 17 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's 41-21 win over the Eagles. He also caught all three of his targets for 21 yards.
Analysis: Elliott enjoyed his best game of the young season, starting Monday's contest by converting a one-yard plunge into the end zone on the Cowboys' first drive. He then had a touchdown catch reversed and marked inches short of the goal line a couple series afterward, but Elliott would get that second score back by powering in on a three-yard rush in the second quarter. Bounces back in Week 2
Elliott carried the ball 16 times for 71 yards and a touchdown and caught both his targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Chargers.
Analysis: After being held in check by the Bucs in Week 1, Elliott found a lot more running room in Los Angeles and punched home his first score of the year from the five-yard line late in the first quarter. Even so, he was overshadowed in his own backfield by Tony Pollard, who turned 16 touches into 140 scrimmage yards and a TD of his own. Muted performance in opener
Elliott rushed 11 times for 33 yards and brought in both targets for six yards in the Cowboys' 31-29 loss to the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Analysis: The modest rushing volume and production both carry a fairly sizable asterisk, considering the caliber of defensive front the Cowboys were facing and the fact that game flow ended up tilting heavily toward the air attack despite the score being relatively close, at minimum, throughout. Elliott's next game action thus will occur in the team's season opener Sept. 9 against Tampa Bay. Contract bonus restructure
The Cowboys restructured Elliott's contract Friday to convert $8.6 million of his salary for 2021 into a signing bonus, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The move provides Dallas with increased salary cap flexibility for 2021 and 2022, but it doesn't notably impact Elliott's status for those seasons, as he was already effectively guaranteed to remain part of the roster. Elliott will not suit up for Saturday's preseason contest against the Texans, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Elliott is fully healthy and reportedly in fantastic shape, but the Cowboys haven't called upon him to handle preseason action since 2017, so it won't be any surprise if he sits out the team's final two exhibition contests. Unlikely to play in preseason
Elliott has been 100 percent healthy in camp and appears to be in excellent shape, but he's not likely to suit up during either of the Cowboys' final two exhibition games, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "I feel really good," he said Wednesday. "I feel healthy. I feel like I'm in good shape. I like where my speed and my quickness is. I like how comfortable I am in the offense. So I think I'm ready to go."
Analysis: Coach Mike McCarthy said early in training camp that the team was going to keep a close eye on Elliott's workload, and the last time the running back saw preseason action was in 2017, so him not seeing any exhibition snaps wouldn't be a big surprise. The 26-year-old is looking to bounce back from a disappointing campaign in which he recorded career lows in rushing yards and yards per carry.

No carries in preseason opener
Elliott was among the Cowboys' key players who didn't take the field in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Steelers, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The team was predictably cautious with established starters like Elliott on Thursday, which paved the way for Rico Dowdle to lead the way with eight carries for 43 yards in Dallas' 16-3 loss. Also in the mix were Brenden Knox (four carries), JaQuan Hardy (three carries) and Tony Pollard (two carries). The Cowboys have three more exhibition games in which to get Elliott some preseason touches, but we suspect that if/when that does occur, the running back's workload won't be extensive.

Looking explosive this offseason
Elliott has worked hard this offseason to improve his footwork and get in better shape, and as a result he's looked quicker and more explosive in OTAs and minicamp, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "Zeke looks great," Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said this week. "He's in the best shape of his life. Looking fast."
Analysis: The running back posted career lows of 979 rushing yards and 4.0 yards per carry in 2020, but much of that regression was due to a rash of injuries along the Cowboys' offensive line as well as a sluggish overall attack in the wake of Prescott's season-ending ankle injury. Elliott (calf) will be limited at practice Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated Monday that Elliott has a chance to suit up Sunday against the Eagles, and the running back's looming practice participation Wednesday would appear to boost that possibility. If Elliott isn't cleared for the contest, however, Tony Pollard would be in line to head Dallas' backfield.

May return Week 16
Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Elliott (calf) "has a chance" to suit up Sunday against the Eagles, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Elliott focused entirely on resistance work and didn't practice last week, eventually being included among the Cowboys' inactives Week 15 against the 49ers. While the move was somewhat surprising after both national and local media reported he was in line to play, it allowed Tony Pollard to handle 52 of 58 offensive snaps en route to 18 touches for 132 yards from scrimmage and two rushing TDs. McCarthy also noted he expects Elliott to be "further along" with his bruised calf after getting the…read more

Surprise inactive Sunday
Elliott (calf) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys managed Elliott's reps the last two weeks due to a bruised calf, but during the most recent one coach Mike McCarthy suggested the running back was "a little further away" than one week prior. The assessment comes as no surprise after Elliott was unable to practice at all this week, instead focusing on resistance work with the training staff. There was an expectation that he would gut out the injury, but Dallas has changed course and will give Elliott the week off. With Elliott…read more

Remains in line to play
Elliott (calf) remains questionable ahead of Sunday's game against the 49ers, but the running back remains on track to suit up in the Week 15 contest, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Though Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged that Elliott has been further behind in his prep for game day while managing the injury compared to last week, the 25-year-old apparently intends to play at less than 100 percent health. Given that Elliott didn't practice at any point this week, he could be in store for a smaller workload than normal, though McCarthy hasn't specifically said that will be in the cards. Most likely, Dallas will see how Elliott looks early on in the contest…read more

Still on track to play
Elliott (calf) is still on track to play Sunday despite the call-up of running back Sewo Olonilua, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: It's worth noting the last time Olonilua was elevated to the active roster in Week 9, Elliott was essentially a game-time decision, but the star back did manage to play and still saw his usual workload. Coach Mike McCarthy has continually reinforced the notion Elliott will be available in Week 15, but fantasy managers should still be actively checking his status ahead of the Sunday 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.

On track to play, despite absences
Elliott (calf) is expected to play in Sunday's game against the 49ers, despite being listed as questionable after missing practice throughout the week, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike McCarthy admitted earlier Friday that Elliott is a little behind where he was at the same point last week. Even so, McCarthy told Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News that "all things look like [Elliott]'s going to play" in Sunday's game against the 49ers. If anything goes wrong before the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, Tony Pollard would be in line for a huge workload in a game where the losing team won't have a realistic path to the playoffs.

On track to play Sunday
Coach Mike McCarthy said "all things look like" Elliott (calf) is going to play Sunday against the 49ers, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: McCarthy also said the 25-year-old is "a little further away" than he was at this point last week, but the calf injury apparently isn't a significant concern. In last week's win over the Bengals, Elliott accrued 14 touches for 59 yards while playing a typical 63 percent of the offensive snaps. He should be in store for a relatively normal workload again Week 15.

Withheld from Thursday's practice
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Elliott (calf) won't practice with the team Thursday and will instead perform a workout on the side under the supervision of Dallas' training staff, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, McCarthy relayed that the running back is "still having after effects" with his bruised calf following his appearance in the Cowboys' win over the Bengals last weekend. Listed as questionable ahead of that contest, Elliott gained clearance to play and handled a relatively normal workload, playing 63 percent of the offensive snaps and finishing with 59 total yards on 14 touches (12 carries, two receptions). Goes down as a non-participant
Updating a previous report, the Cowboys officially listed Elliott (calf) as a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Prior to the session, coach Mike McCarthy told Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News that Elliott would be limited, with the Cowboys watching him to "see how he responds" from the bruised calf that he played through in Sunday's win over the Bengals. Later, Elliott was spotted doing resistance work with the team's training staff, per Gehlken. Limited to begin Week 15
Elliott (calf) will be limited at practice Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Elliott is dealing with a calf contusion, but the report notes that coach Mike McCarthy doesn't think the running back aggravated the injury in Sunday's win over Bengals. Listed as questionable ahead of that contest, Elliott suited up and proceeded to play 32 snaps while finishing with 12 carries for 48 yards and two catches for 11 yards.

Limited to 14 touches
Elliot carried the ball 12 times for 48 yards in Week 14 against the Bengals. He added two receptions for 11 yards.
Analysis: Elliot split carries evenly with Tony Pollard, who drew 11 rushes and also added two receptions. In addition to the limited volume, Elliot was largely held under wraps and logged just two rushes of five or more yards. Elliot was a limited participant in practice throughout the week due to a calf injury, which may have encouraged the Cowboys to limit his workload in a game they controlled. Suiting up in Cincinati
Elliott (calf) is active Week 14 against the Bengals.
Analysis: A calf injury caused Elliott to only be a limited participant in practice each day this week, but the expectation all along was that he'll suit up for the matchup against the Bengals. That notion was officially confirmed upon the release of inactives, leaving Elliott set to take the field under favorable fantasy circumstances. The Bengals are giving up 5.0 YPC to opposing running backs this season, which is the third-highest mark in the NFL.

Remains on track for Sunday
Elliott (calf) is expected to play Sunday at Cincinnati, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old received the questionable tag Friday due to the calf injury, but he never appeared in danger of sitting out Sunday's contest. Elliott has at least 20 touches in four of the past five games and should continue to lead Dallas' backfield against the Bengals this weekend, with Tony Pollard working in a secondary role.

Should be fine Sunday
Elliott (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Cincinnati, but he's expected to play, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Even with Tony Pollard getting a bit more work in recent weeks, Elliott reached 20 touches in four of the past five games. He's scored just one touchdown and averaged 3.8 YPC since Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending knee injury, but Elliott has a good matchup this week, and his workload remains among the safest in the league.

Limited at walk-through
Elliott (calf) was limited at Thursday's walk-through, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Speaking to Jon Machota of The Athletic on Thursday, Elliott relayed that he's dealing a calf contusion. "I'm sure it's gonna be sore during the game," Elliott added. "I don't think it will limit me much at all." He's averaging a shade more than 20 touches per game this season, but with back-to-back limited practices so far this week the training staff clearly is curtailing how much he can do before Sunday's game at Cincinnati. Friday's injury report may clear up Elliott's status for Week 14.

Listed with calf issue
Elliott was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report with a calf injury, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports.
Analysis: Elliott previously played through a hamstring injury this season, so another lower-body issue doesn't seem like a huge concern, especially considering he would have got in some work if the Cowboys held a formal practice Wednesday. He'll look to prove the health of his calf during the team's two remaining sessions this week before Dallas matches up with Cincinnati on Sunday.

Garners 95 total yards in loss
Elliott rushed 18 times for 77 yards and secured four of six targets for 18 yards in the Cowboys' 34-17 loss to the Ravens on Tuesday night.
Analysis: Elliott got off to a strong start in the first half but saw his opportunities on the ground diminish as Dallas fell further behind. His reception tally was his highest since Week 6, when he garnered eight grabs versus the Cardinals. Elliott has topped 75 rushing yards twice in the last three games, so fantasy managers heading into their playoffs will hope he's able to keep the momentum going in a highly favorable Week 14 road matchup against the Bengals.

Fumbles again in blowout loss
Elliott carries the ball 10 times for 32 yards and caught one of three targets for seven yards in Thursday's 41-16 loss to Washington, while also losing a fumble.
Analysis: It's the sixth fumble in 11 games for Elliott, and the Cowboys have lost possession of five of them, including his giveaway on the second play of the second half Thursday that helped kill any chance Dallas had of keeping the game close. The fifth-year RB is still (barely) on pace for another 1,000-yard campaign, but Elliott just isn't finding the same running room this season behind a Cowboys offensive line gutted by injuries. Delivers best performance of season
Elliott carried the ball 21 times for 103 yards and caught both his targets for 11 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-28 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: While he lost the statistical battle with Dalvin Cook, Elliott and the Cowboys won the war, and the Dallas back produced his first 100-yard rushing performance of the season. With Andy Dalton back at the helm, the team's offense as a whole looked a little more like the unit that was so potent early in the year under Dak Prescott, and Elliott will take some much-needed momentum into a Thanksgiving clash with Washington.

Still dealing with tight hamstring
Elliott said his tight hamstring feels better after a bye week, but he acknowledged Wednesday that he's still managing some soreness, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "It's a little stiff," Elliott said of the hamstring. "It's something that I'm working on every day."
Analysis: Elliott was listed as questionable ahead of the Cowboys' Week 9 loss to Pittsburgh, ultimately suiting up and taking 20 touches for 69 yards while playing 65 percent of the offensive snaps. That's obviously a sizable workload, but it was also the first time all season where Elliott played less than three-quarters of the snaps in a game that wasn't a blowout. While he may not be 100 percent healthy, Elliott seemingly expects to play in Sunday's game at Minnesota.

Big workload in Sunday's loss
Elliott carried the ball 18 times for 51 yards and caught two of three targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 24-19 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: The running back was a game-time decision due to a minor hamstring strain, but Elliott was deemed good to go after pregame warmups and wound up seeing 20 or more touches for the eighth time in nine games this season. He wasn't particularly productive, however, failing to find the end zone for the fourth straight contest -- in fact, Elliott hasn't scored since Dak Prescott (ankle) was lost for the year. Game-time status trending down
Elliott (hamstring), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers, could be trending in the wrong direction after the Cowboys elevated fullback Sewo Olonilua from the practice squad, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: It's never a great sign when a team opts to call up additional depth at a position affected by injuries, but it's difficult to really read too much into this situation since Olonilua is traditionally considered a fullback and thus would only see snaps at running back if a series of unfortunate situations would decimate the team's depth behind Elliott. Expected to play Week 9
Head coach Mike McCarthy said Elliott (hamstring) would be limited in Thursday's practice, but the Cowboys expect the running back to be available for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys are managing Elliott's reps for the second day in a row, but based on the comments from his coach, the hamstring issue doesn't seem to be anything serious. Instead, Elliott's poor team context is his biggest obstacle these days, as a banged-up offensive line and shaky quarterback play have contributed to him averaging less than four yards per carry and drawing just four total targets over the past two games. The 25-year-old will have two more chances to upgrade to full practice participation, so there's not yet real cause for concern about his Week 9 availability. He slipped in the end zone and gave up a safety just before his own score, and he dropped numerous catchable passes from Dak Prescott. Elliott will look to bounce back in Week 4 against a Browns defense that just gave up 5.4 yards a carry and a rushing touchdown to rookie Antonio Gibson.

Elliott ran for 89 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries while securing six of seven targets for 33 yards during Sunday's 40-39 win against the Falcons. He also committed two first-quarter fumbles, losing one to Atlanta.
Analysis: Elliott has been an elite rusher since the day he entered the NFL, as exhibited by the 1,631 rushing yards and 16 total touchdowns he collected during his All-Pro rookie season of 2016. Elliott rushed 22 times for 96 yards and a touchdown, adding three receptions (four targets) for 31 yards and another score in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: This was about as stereotypical of an Ezekiel Elliott performance as it gets; he gained consistent chunks of yardage (4.4 YPC) and finished right around the century mark, found the end zone twice and caught three passes after averaging 3.4 receptions per game in 2019. Feeling much improved
Elliott (illness) said he's feeling better after testing positive for COVID-19, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "I would say I had maybe one or two days when I felt symptoms," Elliott relayed in a Zoom call Wednesday. "Even then, it wasn't too bad. I had a cough and a little bit of shortness of breath. Now, I feel good. I feel normal."
Analysis: Elliott's comments represent his first public statement since word leaked June 15 of his positive test. Until Wednesday, though, it was unclear whether or not he was symptomatic, which he confirmed was the case. Elliott has another week to go of self-isolation and "still can't work out," per John Breech of CBS Sports. Huge game against Rams
Elliott carried the ball 24 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns and caught three of four targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 44-21 win over the Rams.
Analysis: That's now back-to-back two-TD performances for Elliott, while the 160 scrimmage yards were a season high as he came through in a big way for those with fantasy shares in him. The fourth-year RB will look to keep rolling next Sunday in Philadelphia with a chance to lock up the NFC East title against an Eagles defense he gashed for 111 rushing yards and a score in Week 7.

Scores two TDs in loss
Elliott rushed 19 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns and secured two of five targets for 12 yards in the Cowboys' 31-24 loss to the Bears on Thursday.
Analysis: Elliott's play was a bright spot in the Cowboys' third straight defeat, although game script eventually served to cap his volume overall. The Pro Bowler has now logged a sub-20-carry workload in three of his past four games, and he hasn't eclipsed the 100-yard mark since Week 9 versus the Giants. Elliott does continue seeing multiple targets in the passing game on a regular basis, and he'll look to be get back to more robust volume in the ground attack in another tough matchup against the Rams…read more

Piles up yardage in loss
Elliott carried the ball 12 times for 71 yards and caught seven of 10 targets for 66 yards in Thursday's 26-15 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: The running back has topped 100 scrimmage yards in two straight games and seven times this season, but his inability to find the end zone proved costly for the Cowboys. Elliott will look to keep rolling next week on the road against a Bears defense that just gave up 83 rushing yards to his former backup, Bo Scarbrough.

Tops 100 scrimmage yards in loss
Elliott carried the ball 21 times for 86 yards and caught all four of his targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 13-9 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Rain put a damper on both team's offenses, but Elliott was still able to deliver triple-digit scrimmage yards for the sixth time in 11 games. The fourth-year RB is now 81 yards shy of the 1,000-yard mark for the third time in his career, a milestone he'll try to reach at home on Thanskgiving against the Bills.

Scores two TDs vs. Lions
Elliott carried 16 times for 45 yards, a touchdown, and one fumble Sunday against the Lions. He also caught two of three targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in the 35-27 win.
Analysis: Faced with an excellent matchup against one of the worst run defenses in the league, Elliott fumbled on his first touch and could only manage 2.8 yards per carry. He did, however, record a one-yard TD run in the second quarter and added the decisive score on a 17-yard reception midway through the fourth. Although Elliott failed to take full advantage of an excellent opportunity for a breakout game, his two scores were a boon for fantasy owners, and the passing offense continued to flourish.…read more

Stuffed in loss
Elliott rushed 20 times for 47 yards and had two catches for 16 yards in Sunday's 28-24 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: The Vikings had a clear gameplan to not let Elliott beat them, and they executed it to perfection. It was a bit surprising that coach Jason Garrett did not find more creative ways to get his star back the ball in open space (just three targets). This was easily Elliott's worst fantasy performance this season, as he was at least able to hit pay dirt the three other occasions in which he did not rush for at least 100 yards. Zeke will have an excellent opportunity to bounce back in the Cowboys'…read more

Tops century mark in win
Elliott rushed 23 times for 139 yards, but was not targeted in Monday night's 37-18 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Elliott once again was a force on the ground, hitting the 100-yard mark for a third consecutive game. In fact, his output Monday set a new season high. Despite that production, Elliott didn't find the end zone for just the second time this season, and he wasn't targeted in the passing game for only the second time in his four-year career. Those factors prevented him from posting an even better performance, but Elliott still takes considerable momentum into Week 10's visit from the Vikings.
