A 2022 first-round pick, Dotson averaged 43.6 receiving yards per game and 14.9 yards as a rookie, accounting for seven of Washington's 24 receiving touchdowns despite missing five full games with a hamstring injury and struggling for three weeks after returning. Unfortunately, the limited sample of success didn't carry over to 2023. The Commanders offense, led by QB Sam Howell and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was no better than the 2022 version and especially struggled in the second half of the season. Dotson was perhaps a victim, in part, but he also seemed to be part of the problem, dropping to 30.5 yards per game, 10.6 yards per catch and four touchdowns (on 83 targets, 4.9 per game) despite playing all 17 games. Dotson's third year will be pivotal, after the Commanders hired Kliff Kingsbury as their new offensive coordinator and drafted QB Jayden Daniel second overall. Curtis Samuel's departure for Buffalo leaves Terry McLaurin as Washington's only proven, quality starter at wide receiver, suggesting Dotson will have another chance at regular snaps after his disastrous 2023.
