Pre-Season Outlook
The Bears drafted Burden at No. 39 overall this spring, after taking TE Colston Loveland at No. 10. The two rookies join WR DJ Moore, WR Rome Odunze, TE Cole Kmet and RB D'Andre Swift to form a diverse and promising group of pass catchers. Burden's immediate goal is to secure the No. 3 receiver spot this summer, likely competing with free agent Olamide Zaccheaus. At 6-feet, 206 pounds, Burden has a strong, compact build that makes him difficult to tackle, earning comparisons to Moore and Deebo Samuel. Burden had 2,263 receiving yards, 234 rushing yards, and 25 touchdowns across three seasons at Missouri, although his pass-catching production dipped some in 2024. Fortunately for Burden, a 4.41 40 at the combine helped revive his draft value and shut down any doubts about raw athleticism. Chicago may not offer huge target volume right away, but with new coach Ben Johnson guiding QB Caleb Williams' development, it could quickly turn into a highly favorable situation if Moore or Odunze misses time.

On track for training camp
Bears coach Ben Johnson said Tuesday on the first day of mandatory minicamp that Burden (undisclosed) should be ready for training camp in late July, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Burden sustained an undisclosed soft-tissue injury during rookie minicamp. It looks like the 2025 second-round pick will continue to miss reps in mandatory minicamp after being forced to sit out OTAs. Once healthy, Burden will work to make up for lost time and secure the No. 3 receiver role behind DJ Moore and Rome Odunze.

Out with soft-tissue injury
Burden (undisclosed) is not participating in Wednesday's offseason practice due to a soft-tissue injury, Sean Hammond of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: The exact nature of Burden's injury has yet to be disclosed, but Kaitlin Sharkey of WGNTV reports that there is currently no timetable for the rookie second-round pick's return. It's less than ideal for Burden to be missing early install reps, but he has roughly two weeks to recover before the start of mandatory minicamp June 3, not to mention training camp in late July. When healthy, Burden is expected to push for a starting role alongside DJ Moore and Rome Odunze. Head coach Ben Johnson…read more
