Makes garbage-time cameo
Trubisky completed his lone pass attempt for a three-yard gain and lost a yard on his lone carry in Monday's 47-10 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Trubisky directed the Buffalo offense for the final three possessions of the night after starting quarterback Josh Allen guided the Bills to a commanding 27-point lead through the early part of the fourth quarter. He mostly handed the ball off as the Bills ran down the clock, with his lone carry being a kneeldown in the final minute of the quarter. So long as Allen stays healthy throughout the season, Trubisky's playing time will remain limited to the tail end of non-competitive games.

Resumes practicing in full
Trubisky (knee) practiced in full Thursday.
Analysis: Trubisky was limited due to a knee issue Wednesday, but he's upgraded to full participation in time to play without restrictions Week 1. Barring any setbacks, Trubisky now looks fully on track to operate as the No. 2 quarterback behind Josh Allen during Buffalo's regular-season opener against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Remains uncertain for season opener
Trubisky (knee) will be a limited participant during practice Wednesday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Trubisky is still nursing a knee injury suffered in a mid-August preseason tilt with the Steelers. His ability to participate at some level Wednesday should be a step in the right direction, though head coach Sean McDermott is "not sure" if the North Carolina product will be available Week 1, according to Maddy Glab of the Bills' official site. If Trubisky can't play Sunday against the Cardinals, Buffalo will likely promote Mike White to the active roster from the practice squad.

Uncertain for Week 1
General manager Brandon Beane said Wednesday that the status of Trubisky (knee) is uncertain for Week 1, Chris Brown of the Bills Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Trubisky is working his way back from a knee injury sustained mid-August in a preseason game against the Steelers, and while he doesn't seem like a candidate to begin the regular season on injured reserve, he's not a lock to be ready for Buffalo's opener against the Cardinals on Sept. 8. As an insurance option behind Josh Allen, the Bills prioritized inking Mike White to the practice squad Tuesday after he was cut by the Dolphins.

Could be available for Week 1
During Buffalo's press conference Thursday, head coach Sean McDermott did not rule out Trubisky (knee) for the Bills' regular-season opener against the Cardinals on Sept. 8, Alec White of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Trubisky injured his knee in Saturday's preseason game against the Steelers. Initial reports indicated that the injury would sideline the 2017 first-round quarterback for multiple weeks, but McDermott seemed to indicate Thursday that Trubisky has a chance at suiting up for Week 1. If not, Ben DiNucci -- who Buffalo signed on Aug. 12 after Shane Buechele landed on IR with a neck injury -- would serve as the backup quarterback behind Josh Allen to start the season, while Anthony Brown would fill…read more

Trubisky (knee) is expected to miss multiple weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Trubisky left Saturday's preseason contest in Pittsburgh due to a knee injury, and based on Monday's report, the QB's Week 1 status is unclear. When healthy, Trubisky is slated to be Josh Allen's top backup, but for now Ben DiNucci profiles as the Bills' No. 2 signal-caller.

Hurts knee Saturday
Trubisky won't return to Saturday's preseason contest in Pittsburgh due to a knee injury.
Analysis: Prior to his exit in the second quarter, Trubisky completed nine of 13 passes for 86 yards, no touchdowns and one interception and had a one-yard carry. He actually started the game after coach Sean McDermott opted to keep No. 1 QB Josh Allen out due to the slippery nature of the field from rain earlier Saturday, so Ben DiNucci will handle all the reps under center for the remainder of this game.

Major action in preseason opener
Trubisky completed 10 of 18 passes for 82 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's preseason loss to the Bears, good for a 67.4 rating. He also rushed three times for 12 yards.
Analysis: Trubisky is the clear No. 2 behind superstar Josh Allen, and he didn't do anything too terribly in this outing to put his spot at any risk. No. 3 quarterback Shane Buechele had a rough game with an interception and a 34.6 rating, so at this point it would be a pretty big shock to see the Bills enter the regular season with anything other than an Allen-Trubisky pecking order. Returns to Buffalo as backup
Trubisky agreed to a two-year contract with the Bills on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Steelers released Trubisky last month after a two-year run with the team in which the 29-year-old went 2-5 as a starter and was benched multiple times in favor of Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. Trubisky spent the 2021 season as Josh Allen's backup with the Bills and will head back to a familiar spot, where he'll replace Kyle Allen as Buffalo's No. 2 quarterback.

The Steelers released Trubisky on Monday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Among his five appearances during the 2023 season, Trubisky earned two starts and overall completed 67 of 107 passes for 632 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing 16 times for 54 yards and two more scores. Both Kenny Pickett early and Mason Rudolph late in the campaign played over Trubisky when they were healthy, and with the decision to move on from the latter, he'll get a head start on his next destination.

Head coach Mike Tomlin announced Thursday that Trubisky will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Mason Rudolph for Saturday's game against the Bengals, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Kenny Pickett will remain out for a third game in a row while recovering from tightrope surgery on his right ankle, but Trubisky will be bumped down to second on the depth chart in favor of Rudolph after starting the prior two contests. Trubisky went 0-2 during his brief run as a starter, completing 38 of 58 pass attempts for 359 yards (6.2 YPA), two touchdowns and three interceptions while adding 31 yards and two scores on 10 carries. Demoted from starting role
Coach Mike Tomlin said Monday that Pittsburgh plans to start Mason Rudolph over Trubisky against the Bengals on Saturday, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Tomlin added that Kenny Pickett (ankle) will reclaim the starting role whenever he's healthy enough to do so, which could be as soon as Saturday's game. Trubisky entered in relief of Pickett in Week 13, then started the next two games, all of which the Steelers lost. He'll presumably drop to third on the quarterback depth chart once Pickett's healthy, but Trubisky could remain in a backup role behind Rudolph against the Bengals if Pickett doesn't gain clearance to play.

Trubisky was benched late in the fourth quarter of Saturday's game against the Colts, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
Analysis: Trubisky led the Steelers to 13 points in the first quarter, but he couldn't muster any scoring drives for the rest of his time leading the offense. He also threw a pair of interceptions, the latter of which likely clinched a win for the Colts. Mason Rudolph will enter the game in his place, leaving Pittsburgh's quarterback situation very ambiguous heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Bengals.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Monday that Trubisky will make a second consecutive start Saturday in Indianapolis while Kenny Pickett continues his recovery from ankle surgery, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: With Pickett set to be inactive for the second week in a row, Mason Rudolph will serve as the No. 2 quarterback behind Trubisky, who could have a shorter leash Week 15 after turning in a listless showing against the 3-10 Patriots in this past Thursday's 21-18 loss. Largely ineffective in start
Trubisky completed 22 of 35 passes for 190 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Steelers' 21-18 loss to the Patriots on Thursday night. He also rushed eight times for 30 yards and another score and threw a two-point conversion pass.
Analysis: Making his first start of Kenny Pickett's (ankle) projected multi-game absence, Trubisky turned in a lackluster effort that featured plenty of inaccurate throws and saw him average only 5.4 yards per attempt. The veteran QB did serve as the Steelers' leading rusher -- albeit with a modest yardage total -- and connected with Diontae Johnson on a 25-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter. He struggled to move the offense until the game was out of reach, as 65 of his yards came on the Steelers' final drive with the team down 21 points. Pickett is expected to miss time and will face a short turnaround before Thursday's matchup against the Patriots, meaning Trubisky is likely to get at least one start.

Trubisky wasn't particularly effective in relief and was unable to lead the Steelers to the win. Analysis: Pickett was injured on a Jonathan Greenard sack, forcing Trubisky to take the reins of the offense for the entire fourth quarter. The 29-year-old QB did little with the opportunity -- his longest completion went for just eight yards -- but Houston also held a 23-6 lead when Trubisky entered the game, and Pittsburgh didn't make an aggressive attempt to mount a comeback. Trubisky completed seven of nine pass attempts for 54 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing once for 24 yards during Thursday's 24-0 preseason win over the Falcons.
Analysis: After a lackluster performance in the preseason opener, Trubisky has turned things around during the last two matchups, completing 17 of 22 pass attempts for 132 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing three times for 37 yards. Mason Rudolph wasn't nearly as effective during Thursday's preseason finale, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Trubisky open the regular season as the Steelers' No. 2 quarterback.

Trubisky completed 10 of 13 pass attempts for 78 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing twice for 13 yards during Saturday's 27-15 win over the Bills.
Analysis: Trubisky wasn't very effective during the Steelers' preseason opener, but he saw the most work of any of the team's quarterbacks Saturday and was an effective option. Kenny Pickett is still the team's clear starter, but it was encouraging to see Trubisky generate some production Saturday, especially after Mason Rudolph put together another solid performance.

Struggles in preseason win
Trubisky completed one of four pass attempts for 10 yards, no touchdowns and an interception during Friday's 27-17 preseason win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Although Trubisky lost his starting job with the Steelers early in the 2023 campaign, he landed a two-year contract extension with the team during the offseason. Kenny Pickett is the clear top starting option for the Steelers ahead of the regular season, so Trubisky's performances don't carry as much weight this preseason. Along with connecting with top wideout Diontae Johnson for a season-high 10 catches, Trubisky added a scoring rush with a quarterback sneak during the third quarter. Analysis: With Kenny Pickett (concussion) downgraded to out Saturday, Trubisky has been confirmed as Sunday's starter, which sets the stage for Mason Rudolph to serve as the team's No. 2 QB versus Carolina. Coach Mike Tomlin said Friday that he'll wait until Saturday to make a decision between Trubisky and Mason Rudolph to replace Kenny Pickett (doubtful - concussion) as the starting quarterback for Sunday's game at Carolina, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis: Trubisky entered the game in relief of Kenny Pickett (concussion) late in the first quarter. While he put up plenty of yardage, Trubisky doomed the Steelers to a loss with an ugly three-interception performance -- two of which occurred deep in Baltimore territory. Trubisky completed 21 of 38 pass attempts for 194 yards and one touchdown in an overtime win against Cincinnati on Sunday.
Analysis: No turnovers is a good thing, but Trubisky was unacceptably ineffective as a passer in this game, as he repeatedly missed opportunities and made inaccurate throws the few times he did recognize a passing opportunity. Confirms no announcement on starter
Trubisky confirmed Wednesday that there's been no official announcement of the Steelers' starting quarterback, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Analysis: Trubisky started the first two preseason games and reportedly has dominated reps with the first-team offense in practice, but it's possible he's facing a late challenge from Kenny Pickett, who has completed 19 of 22 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns in exhibitions. Pickett even got some work with the first-string offense after Trubisky was pulled from the second preseason game, throwing for 63 yards and a touchdown in the final minute of the first half. Sidetracked by pressure
Trubisky completed five of eight passes for 60 yards in Saturday's preseason win over the Jaguars. He also rushed for 10 yards.
Analysis: Trubisky wasn't as efficient as he was in his debut with the Steelers, but he wasn't afforded much time to throw. He escaped from pressure on several occasions, including one instance during which he scrambled for a 10-yard gain. While the performance wasn't impressive overall, Trubisky did connect with Chase Claypool for a 29-yard gain. Though Kenny Pickett posted a more impressive stat line, Trubisky is still the likely starter for Week 1 against the Bengals.

Starting Saturday's preseason game
Trubisky will start Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Trubisky saw the least volume as a passer during last weekend's preseason opener against the Seahawks, but he was efficient and completed four of seven pass attempts for 63 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. He'll work with Pittsburgh's first-team offense once again during the second preseason matchup, further cementing his status as the frontrunner for the starting quarterback job.

Efficient in starting role
Trubisky completed four of seven pass attempts for 63 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions while rushing once for four yards during the Steelers' 32-25 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.
Analysis: Trubisky began Saturday's preseason opener under center and worked with the first-team offense for the first two drives of the game. While the 2017 first-rounder had the least volume of the three Steelers quarterbacks during the victory, he was efficient with his opportunities and connected with receiver Gunner Olszewski for a touchdown on the game's opening drive. Set to start Saturday
Trubisky will start Saturday's preseason opener against the Seahawks.
Analysis: Per Alan Saunders of PittsburghSportsNow.com, Trubisky -- the favorite to be the Steelers' Week 1 starting QB -- will be followed in the contest by Mason Rudolph and then Kenny Pickett. Meanwhile, Missi Matthews of the team's official site relays via coach Mike Tomlin that Pittsburgh's starters figure to play about a quarter Saturday, while the second unit is in line to play in the second and third quarters, followed by the third stringers in the fourth quarter.

Pulling ahead in QB competition
Trubisky is trending toward winning the Steelers' starting quarterback job, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Trubisky has had his fair share of struggles early in camp, but he's still spent most of his time with the first-team offense ahead of Pittsburgh's first preseason game Saturday against the Seahawks. While Mason Rudolph has performed better than expected and Kenny Pickett is showing improvement as camp progresses, Rapoport reports that Trubisky will "almost certainly" start under center for the Steelers' regular-season opener against Cincinnati on Sept. 11. Likely frontrunner for starting job
Trubisky has been treated like the favorite to serve as the Steelers' starting quarterback early in training camp, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Trubisky has received consistent reps with the first-team offense over the first week of camp, and he worked exclusively with the starters Thursday while Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett split reps between the second-team and third-team offenses, Chris Halicke of DKPittsburghSports.com reports. Getting first-team reaps
Trubisky was consistently the first quarterback through the rotation at Wednesday's practice, with Mason Rudolph second and Kenny Pickett third, Josh Rowntree of Newsradio KDKA Pittsburgh reports.
Analysis: Pickett, a rookie first-round pick, represents the real threat to Trubisky's job security, be it early in the season or later on. Most reports out of Pittsburgh have Trubisky as a heavy favorite for the Week 1 start, and he's taken the bulk of first-team reps dating back to spring practices. Rudolph is the only one of the three who has any experience working in the Steelers offense under offensive coordinator Matt Canada, but Trubisky and Pickett both are more athletic and have stronger arms.

Gets additional competition at QB
Trubisky will have additional competition for the starting quarterback job during training camp after the Steelers drafted Kenny Pickett with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 27-year-old was the clear favorite for the starting job when he signed a two-year contract with Pittsburgh in mid-March, but Kaboly reports that Pickett should compete for the starting role once training camp gets underway. Trubisky is still seen as the frontrunner to serve as the No. 1 option to begin the season, but he's unlikely to have too much job security, particularly if Pickett impresses in practice and preseason games. Two-year deal with Steelers
Trubisky's deal with the Steelers is for two years, with a base value of approximately $14 million, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The report suggests that Trubisky's pact could max out at $27 million via incentives. Though Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins are also in the Steelers' post-Ben Roethlisberger quarterback mix, Kaboly indicates that Trubisky, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, is the clear favorite to be the team's Week 1 starter after spending last season with the Bills as Josh Allen's backup.

With the Steelers, however, Trubisky now is slated to have a chance to step back into a starting role, taking over for Pittsburgh's long-time franchise QB Ben Roethlisberger, who retired after the 2021 season. Target of Giants
The Giants are expected to seriously pursue Trubisky when free agency begins March 16, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: If he were to land in New York, Trubisky would reunite with first-year head coach Brian Daboll and first-year general manager Joe Schoen, both of whom were members of the Buffalo organization along with the quarterback in 2021. Linking up with the Giants would leave Trubisky in line to compete with incumbent Daniel Jones for the starting job, leaving it up to the team's new brain trust to decide which former top-10 draft pick is the best option heading into the regular season. Likely on the move
Head coach Sean McDermott said Tuesday that "it's unrealistic to think" that the Bills will be able to retain Trubisky this offseason, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: After four years with the Bears, who took Trubisky with the second overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, the quarterback signed a one-year deal last March with the Bills and served as Josh Allen's backup. Following a 2021 campaign in which he attempted just eight passes, Trubisky -- who turns 28 in August -- will now look to join a team that will give him the opportunity to compete for a starting job.

Could return if market is cold
Bills general manager Brandon Beane said the team would like to re-sign Trubisky if the quarterback doesn't get the contract he's hoping for elsewhere, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: After signing with the Bills for 2021 and serving as Josh Allen's backup, Trubisky will try to find a chance to compete for a starting job. He's thus unlikely to re-sign with the Bills before the start of free agency, but he might consider returning as a backup if he doesn't find a favorable opportunity elsewhere. Trubisky attempted only eight passes in 2021 with Allen enjoying a healthy, productive season.

Trubisky will handle a larger share of reps in practice this week in case teammate Josh Allen -- who suffered a foot injury in Sunday's overtime loss to the Buccaneers and was limited at Wednesday's practice -- can't play this week, Dante Lasting of the Bills' official site reports.
Analysis: Given his track record of playing through injuries coupled with the fact the Bills are barely hanging onto a playoff spot, Allen will likely suit up this weekend, but if sits out, his understudy could be a sneaky play in Week 15 against a struggling Panthers squad. Makes return from COVID-19 list
The Bills activated Trubisky (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
Analysis: Sidelined for the Bills' past two games after testing positive for the virus Nov. 6, Trubisky looks poised to turn in a full week of practice and reclaim backup duties behind starting signal-caller Josh Allen in Sunday's game against the Colts. Fitting right in
Trubisky has looked polished during the first week-plus of training camp, Dante Lasting of the Bills' official site reports. "Mitch has been a really good addition since he's been here," offensive coordinator Brian Daboll said Monday. "A guy that's played 50-some games. Has seen a lot of football. Standing back at that position, it's different than watching it from the press box, or watching it from the sideline, or anything like that. So, there are things that have happened to him throughout his young career so far that I think can help Josh and assist Josh, and vice-versa."
Analysis: Trubisky has a 0.0 percent chance of unseating Josh Allen, but he was wisely brought in because the Bills were looking for someone that could run the offense in passable fashion to Allen should the latter ever go down with injury. And Trubisky fits that bill with his size and legs. Given the Bills' high-powered offense and his ability to do some damage on the ground, Trubisky should be toward the top of any cheatsheets once you get to the backup QB section.

Trubisky will sign a one-year deal with the Bills, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: In terms of fantasy value, this is a terrible landing spot for managers of Trubisky in dynasty formats, as he's being signed to serve strictly as a backup to Josh Allen, with no chance at a starting job. However, in football terms it's a sound signing, as Trubisky has a similar style of play to Allen and gives a Super Bowl contender viable insurance in case the franchise signal caller suffers an injury. Trubisky completed 33 of 42 passes for 252 yards and an interception while adding four rushes for 22 yards in Chicago's 35-16 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky threw mostly short passes while being used primarily as a game manager, and the Bears were able to find the end zone only a single time, resulting in a disappointing fantasy performance. On the season, Trubisky played in 10 games, passing for 2,055 yards along with 16 touchdowns against eight interceptions, and once Chicago finishes its playoff run, he's set to be an unrestricted free agent.

Accounts for three scores
Trubisky completed 24 of 35 passes for 265 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while adding 10 yards and a touchdown on the ground in Chicago's 41-17 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky was surprisingly called upon to throw 36 passes in a game the Bears won by 24 points, but between locking in on Jimmy Graham for a pair of touchdown passes while calling his own number at the goal line for a rushing score, the quarterback ended up with a strong fantasy performance. He's accounted for exactly three touchdowns in three of Chicago's last five games, but he'll have a difficult home matchup in Week 17 against the Packers.

Efficient effort in win
Trubisky completed 15 of 21 passes for 202 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding eight rushes for 34 yards in the Bears' 33-27 victory over the Vikings on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky was only needed as a game manager in a contest that Chicago led throughout, leading to the team passing on just a third of its offensive snaps. However, the quarterback had consistent success by getting out of the pocket and either finding open receivers or running when the opportunity presented itself. Despite a favorable Week 16 matchup against the Jaguars, he'll likely be more of a fantasy option in superflex or two-quarterback leagues.

Best game of season
Trubisky completed 24 of 33 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns while adding four rushes for 23 yards in the Bears' 36-7 victory over the Texans on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky threw all three of his touchdown passes in the second quarter, and once the game was out of hand, he settled into game-manager mode, having already provided fantasy managers with a fruitful performance. He's thrown for at least 242 yards in each of his last three games while accounting for seven touchdowns during that span, and with a favorable schedule over the next two weeks, he should be considered a top-20 quarterback option.

Efficient in loss
Trubisky completed 26 of 34 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's 34-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday. He also rushed three times for six yards and lost a fumble.
Analysis: Trubisky led the Bears to 23 points in the first half, but all three of the team's touchdowns came on the ground. The fourth-year signal-caller didn't fire a touchdown pass until the fourth quarter in a game that the Bears controlled until he lost a crucial fumble in the last two minutes of the contest, which ultimately cost them the game. Coach Matt Nagy hasn't yet named a starting quarterback for Week 12, but if only one of those options is fully healthy, that decision could make itself. Analysis: Trubisky endured an inconsistent first half, completing 13 of 21 passes for 128 yards (6.1 YPA) and a touchdown. He also recorded a 45-yard rush in the second quarter. Nevertheless, the Bears entered halftime with a six-point deficit and opted to give Foles his first look in the offense. After the game, coach Matt Nagy declined to name a Week 4 starter for the matchup against the Colts as reported by Adam Hoge of NBC Sports reports.

Another multi-touchdown performance
Trubisky completed 18 of 28 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns along with two interceptions in Chicago's 17-13 victory over the Giants on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky was productive in the first half, throwing for over 75% of his total yardage and both touchdown strikes despite his typical inclination to fire ill-advised passes at times, but after the intermission, he threw for fewer than 50 yards and a pair of interceptions, nearly costing the Bears a victory. Regardless, he's thrown for multiple touchdowns in each game to start the season, and he has excellent matchups against Atlanta, Indianapolis and Carolina over the next four weeks, which may…read more

Week 1 hero
Trubisky completed 20 of 32 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns while adding 26 yards on the ground in Chicago's 27-23 victory over the Lions on Sunday.
Analysis: After struggling through the first three quarters, Trubisky rewarded fantasy managers who started him by throwing three fourth-quarter touchdown strikes to pull out the victory for Chicago. Although there's no way to know if he'll retain the starting job for the long term, it would be a surprise if he wasn't under center in Week 2 against the Giants at Soldier Field,. However, he offers little consistent upside, making him useful only in leagues that start two quarterbacks.

Officially named starting QB
Head coach Matt Nagy announced that Trubisky will start Week 1 versus the Lions, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The news was leaked a couple of days prior to the official announcement, but now it's set in stone that Trubisky will be afforded another opportunity to live up to his second-overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. Nagy emphasized multiple times that Trubisky won the competition on his own merit, relaying that the quarterback improved his footwork, accuracy and command this offseason. Nevertheless, his performance in 2019 was uninspiring with 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions…read more

Expected to start Week 1
Trubisky is expected to be the Bears' starting quarterback Week 1 against the Lions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter's sources cited that Trubisky's "progression, leadership and overall performance" earned him the job, although Nick Foles made it a close battle. This was the likely outcome all along, as it's still Trubisky's team despite his unimpressive 2019 showing that resulted in 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over 15 games. Trubisky will likely be on a short leash with Foles as a backup.

Still in starting contention
Coach Matt Nagy confirmed Saturday neither Trubisky or Nick Foles will be listed as the starter before the team's Week 1 matchup against the Lions, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: It seems like a bit of gamesmanship on behalf of the Bears, as Nagy did suggest the team will know who the starter is during that first week of practice ahead of Week 1. All indications from beat writers seem to lean toward Foles as the frontrunner, but only because of Trubisky's struggles throughout training camp. With two weeks left of the "preseason," it's possible the 2017 No. 3 overall pick could play his way into the starting lineup with a handful of solid practices.

Alternating days as starter
Trubisky is taking turns during practice each day with Nick Foles as the starting quarterback, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: This news won't help fantasy managers make a decision as to which Chicago quarterback is the better fantasy option, and with no preseason games, there may not be clarity unless one of them begins to receive regular first-team reps. If he wins the job, Trubisky is likely to function as a low-end QB2 for fantasy managers.

Working with teammates
Trubisky (shoulder) led offseason workouts with teammates in the Chicago area, Bryan Perez of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Analysis: Trubisky had an interesting offseason, starting with January surgery on a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder. The Bears traded for Nick Foles a couple months later, then declined to pick up the fifth-year option on Trubisky's rookie contract. Coach Matt Nagy said his incumbent will take the first snap with the starting offense at training camp, but Foles will be given every opportunity to win the Week 1 starting job. Embracing competition with Foles
Coach Matt Nagy said Monday that Trubisky (shoulder) has been "really, really good in the fact that he's taken this [competition] head-on," Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Nagy has previously stated that the team's Week 1 starter will be determined in an open competition between Trubisky and Nick Foles, whom the team acquired for a fourth-round pick in a trade with Jacksonville in April. The Bears then declined to pick up Trubisky's fifth-year option, a hint that Foles is viewed internally as the frontrunner to beat out Trubisky in training camp and the preseason. Not extended
Trubisky (shoulder) will not have his fifth-year option picked up, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: This shouldn't come as a major surprise given the Bears' offseason acquisition of Nick Foles. While the fifth-year, $24 million option would have only been guaranteed for injury, it's still a tremendous financial commitment to a quarterback that has failed to live up to his draft-day expectations. The Bears have hinted it's still an open competition between Foles and the 2017 No. 3 overall pick, even suggesting Trubisky will take the first snap of training camp, but the former Jaguar appears to…read more

Fifth-year option unlikely
Trubisky (shoulder) may not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: This seems rather obvious considering the Bears traded a fourth-round compensatory pick to the Jaguars for Nick Foles in what was billed by the front office as a means to "improve the competition" at quarterback, but it's still a relatively important note considering the team has until May 4 to make a final decision. If the Bears do surprisingly choose to opt in for the fifth and final year, Trubisky's 2021 salary would be projected to be around $24 million.

Primed for job battle
Trubisky (shoulder) will take the first snap whenever the Bears are able to practice, but coach Matt Nagy said it will be an open QB competition between the 25-year-old and Nick Foles, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Meanwhile, general manager Ryan Pace declined to comment on the team's impending decision on Trubisky's fifth-year option. The deadline to pick up the option is in early May, and while it likely would cost more than $20 million, the salary would be guaranteed for injury only. Could keep starting job
Nick Foles' restructured contract suggests Trubisky (shoulder) has a shot to keep the starting job, according to JJ Stankevitz of NBC Sports Chicago.
Analysis: The Bears traded the Jaguars a fourth-round pick for Foles, who subsequently agreed to reduce his base salaries in exchange for a player option to void his contract after the 2020 or 2021 seasons. Trubisky is actually scheduled to have a slightly higher cap hit for the upcoming campaign, though Foles has incentives that ultimately could push him over the top if he gets considerable playing time. Gets commitment from GM
General manager Ryan Pace reiterated Tuesday that the Bears are committed to Trubisky (shoulder) as their starting quarterback, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Bears may be committed to Trubisky for 2020, but Pace said the team hasn't decided on picking up the fifth-year contract option for 2021. The deadline for that decision is May 30, at which point the Bears expect Trubisky to be back on the field for spring practices. Gets vote of confidence from GM
General manager Ryan Pace said Tuesday that the Bears will proceed with Trubisky (shoulder) as their starting quarterback entering 2020, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: While Pace's comments seem positive enough for Trubisky's standing in the organization coming off a tough season, the GM wasn't willing to commit to the Bears picking up the estimated $20-plus-million fifth-year option on the quarterback's rookie contract, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. Fails to find end zone
Trubisky completed 26 of 37 passes for 207 yards in the Bears' 21-19 win over the Vikings in Week 17, and he ended the season with 3,318 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
Analysis: Trubisky failed to improve in his third pro season, and despite throwing significantly more passes than he did in 2018, his touchdown rate fell drastically. In addition, he threw for zero or one touchdown in more than half of his starts, and as he goes into the fourth year of his rookie contract in 2020, it'll be difficult to envision him as more than a QB2 in fantasy drafts.

Trubisky completed 29 of 53 passes for 348 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while adding 29 yards on four carries in Chicago's 21-13 loss to Green Bay on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky got off to a slow start, but with the Bears falling behind by double digits early in the second half, he was forced to throw on nearly every down, which allowed him to pad his stats while leaning heavily upon Allen Robinson and Anthony Miller, who each went over 100 yards. Trubisky completed 23 of 31 passes for 244 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Bears' 31-24 win over the Cowboys on Thursday. He also rushed 10 times for 63 yards and another score.
Analysis: It may have taken about three-quarters of the season, but Trubisky is finally playing like many had expected the mobile signal-caller to in his second year in coach Matt Nagy's offense. Trubisky completed 29 of 38 passes for 338 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Bears' 24-20 win over the Lions on Thursday. He also rushed four times for four yards.
Analysis: Trubisky racked up a season-best yardage total and was especially sharp in the second half, during which he accumulated 192 of his yards and threw only two incompletions. The often-embattled third-year quarterback was able to capitalize on the Lions' season-long weaknesses defending the pass and connected with Allen Robinson, Jesper Horsted and David Montgomery for his trio of scoring tosses, the latter coming with just 2:17 remaining and capping off a clutch nine-play, 90-yard game-winning…read more

Analysis: For the third game in a row, Trubisky came out ice cold for the entire first half, but he turned things around by leaning heavily upon Allen Robinson in the second half to carve out a solid fantasy performance. This was the second time in three games in which he's accounted for multiple touchdowns, though he'll continue to be a low-upside option in leagues that start two quarterbacks.

Trubisky (hip) has no injury designation for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Analysis: Trubisky was removed for the final possession of last week's 17-7 loss to the Rams, with coach Matt Nagy citing a hip pointer. The quarterback returned to practice as a full participant Wednesday through Friday, setting him up for another start Sunday against the Giants. Analysis: Nagy declined to confirm whether Trubisky will participate in Wednesday's practice. Coach Matt Nagy said Monday that Trubisky (hip) would "absolutely" remain the Bears' starting quarterback Week 12 versus the Giants if cleared to play, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: While he was slogging through an unproductive outing in Sunday's 17-7 loss to the Rams, Trubisky suffered a right hip pointer late in the second quarter, when he was sacked by Los Angeles' Troy Hill. Chicago's training staff determined Trubisky was fit to play in the second half, but Nagy noted the quarterback's hip stiffened up in the fourth quarter. Dealing with hip pointer
Coach Matt Nagy relayed Monday that Trubisky suffered a right hip pointer on a second-quarter sack in Sunday night's 17-7 loss to the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: After the sack, Trubisky was able to stay in the game, but eventually he was replaced by Chase Daniel with 3:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. Head coach comments on injury
Head coach Matt Nagy said following Sunday's loss to the Rams that he removed Trubisky from the game in favor of Chase Daniel because Trubisky "wasn't feeling right. His hip was hurting him. We knew a few series earlier."
Analysis: It's still not exactly clear when Trubisky suffered the injury, but he was able to stay in the game for several drives before ultimately being taken out in favor of Daniel. The severity of Trubisky's injury has still not been disclosed, which leaves his status for the Bears' Week 12 matchup with the Giants uncertain until more details emerge.

Three touchdowns Sunday
Trubisky completed 16 of 23 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns in Chicago's 20-13 victory over the Lions on Sunday.
Analysis: Trubisky had another slow start, as he was held to fewer than 35 yards until a couple minutes remained in the first half before turning things around. Even though his yardage total was low, he tied a season-high 7.5 yards per attempt while matching a season-best three touchdown passes. This was just the third time all season he's thrown a TD in a game, and he's only surpassed 231 yards on two occasions. As a result, he'll remain a low-floor weekly fantasy option.

Retains starting role
Trubisky will continue as the Bears' starting quarterback, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Matt Nagy noted that many people are involved in the offensive struggles, not just Trubisky. However, after completing 67 percent of his passes with a 24:12 TD:INT in 2018, he's fallen to 63 percent and 5:3 in seven games this season, and his performance has been one of the main problems with the Bears' offensive performance.
