Signs with practice squad
Gaskin signed with the Vikings' practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: The running back was released by the team earlier in the day. Gaskin has been on and off the Minnesota practice squad throughout the regular season, and while he was signed to the active roster Oct. 8, he was a healthy scratch for the past two games. Gaskin has three carries for minus-one yard, one catch for 11 yards and no touchdowns in 2024.

Let go by Minnesota
The Vikings released Gaskin on Tuesday.
Analysis: Gaskin was signed from the Vikings' practice squad to the active roster Oct. 8, but he was a healthy scratch for each of Minnesota's last two regular-season games. He appeared in the first five games of the regular season, so while Gaskin could return to the Vikings' practice squad, he could explore his options and sign with a team in need of a running back with special teams experience.

Won't play Week 8
Gaskin (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Rams.
Analysis: Gaskin will be a healthy scratch for a second straight game as the Vikings roll with Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler and Cam Akers as the three backfield options for Thursday's game. Gaskin's next chance at suiting up will be Week 9 against the Colts on Nov. 3.

Inactive against Detroit
Gaskin (coach's decision) is a healthy inactive for Sunday's game against Detroit, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Gaskin has shuffled between the active roster and practice squad this season as the No. 3 running back. However, with the Vikings acquiring Cam Akers from the Texans on Tuesday and keeping him active for Week 7, Gaskin looks to have dropped to fourth on the depth chart.

Signed off practice squad
The Vikings signed Gaskin off their practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: Gaskin had appeared in each of Minnesota's first five games, seeing most of his snaps on special teams while carrying three times for minus-1 yard to go with an 11-yard reception. With Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell labeled lead back Aaron Jones (hip) as week-to-week heading into the team's Week 6 bye, Gaskin will be on hand to provide depth behind top backup Ty Chandler if Jones is unable to play in Minnesota's next game Oct. 20 versus the Lions.

Gaskin reverted to the Vikings' practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Gaskin had two carries for two yards and one reception for 11 yards on his lone target in Sunday's win over the Jets in London. The Washington product has played in all five games for the Vikings this season and is a candidate to be elevated again in Week 7 after the team's bye week.

Gaskin had two carries for two yards and one reception for 11 yards on his lone target in Sunday's win over the Jets in London.

The Vikings elevated Gaskin from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Analysis: Gaskin was on the Vikings' active roster for the first four games of the regular season, but he was released Thursday to make room for tight end Robert Tonyan. Back with Minnesota
The Vikings signed Gaskin to the practice squad Thursday.
Analysis: Gaskin was let go from the active roster earlier Thursday to make room for tight end Robert Tonyan, but the former will stick around on the practice squad. Gaskin had played sparingly over the first four regular-season games, as he was firmly behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler on the backfield depth chart. Over that span, Gaskin played 21 snaps (two on offense, 19 on special teams) and he turned his lone carry into minus-3 yards.

Gets let go
Gaskin was released by the Vikings on Thursday.
Analysis: Gaskin appeared in all four games for Minnesota this season and spent time as a kick returner for the franchise. His exit comes as the team opted to sign Robert Tonyan to the active roster to bolster its tight-end depth for Sunday's matchup with the Jets in London. Gaskin is a likely candidate to return to Minnesota as a member of the practice squad, where he already spent some time in 2023 and earlier this season.

Signed off practice squad
The Vikings signed Gaskin to the 53-man roster from the practice squad Wednesday, Craig Peters of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Gaskin had been elevated from the practice squad for Minnesota's first two regular-season games, and the placement of tight end Nick Muse (hand) on IR now opens a spot for him on the active roster. He'll continue handling a depth role behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler, while also contributing in the return game Sunday versus the Texans.

Gaskin reverted to the Vikings' practice squad Monday.

Analysis: Gaskin played seven snaps Sunday (two on offense, five on special teams), and he lost three yards on his lone carry. Gaskin served as the No. 3 running back behind Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler, and he would likely reprise that role should he be elevated for Week 2 against the 49ers.

Just one carry in season opener
Gaskin lost three yards on one carry on his lone snap on offense in Sunday's win over the Giants.
Analysis: Gaskin is the No. 3 running back but won't get much usage as long as Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler are healthy. Gaskin did get five snaps on special teams, mostly on kickoffs, so he could be a factor at some point as a returner.

Pushed up to active roster
Gaskin was elevated to the Vikings' active roster Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: This had been widely assumed after Gaskin failed to make the initial 53-man roster, leaving the Vikings with just two active running backs ahead of Week 1. At minimum, the 2019 draft pick figures to be a potential return specialist, and he could see some playing in the passing game spelling both Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler.

Likely to be elevated before Week 1
Gaskin will likely be elevated to the game day roster from the practice squad before Week 1 to serve as Minnesota's kick returner, Will Ragatz of Sports Illustrated reports.
Analysis: The Vikings released Gaskin on Tuesday, leaving only Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler in the backfield on the initial 53-man roster, but later signed him to the practice squad. It sounds like Gaskin will serve as the No. 3 RB but the kick return job could be in flux as the Vikings figure out the position with the new kick return rules. Both the No. 3 RB role and kickoff return job are open after the Vikings surprisingly released Kene Nwangwu.

Released by Minnesota
Gaskin was released by Minnesota, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Gaskin faced an uphill battle to win a roster spot as he was fourth on the depth chart at running back behind Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu. He was solid in the preseason (13 carries for 61 yards in Saturday's finale), so he could find work as a reserve elsewhere in the league or land on Minnesota's practice squad.

Big workload Saturday
Gaskin carried the ball 13 times for 61 yards in Saturday's 26-3 preseason win over the Eagles. He also caught two of three targets for six yards.
Analysis: The veteran running back got the start in the Vikings' exhibition finale, which doesn't bode well for his chances of making the 53-man roster, but he had another productive preseason performance. Gaskin might have been auditioning for other teams due to Aaron Jones, Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu all being set at the top of the depth chart, but if he does wind up back on Minnesota's practice squad, he seems capable of giving the Vikings reliable snaps if called upon.

The Dolphins cut Gaskin on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Gaskin made 17 starts between the 2020 and 2021 seasons but then got only 11 touches over four games last year and tumbled further down the depth chart this offseason. He spent the preseason working behind Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson (undisclosed), De'Von Achane (shoulder) and Salvon Ahmed (head), and even undrafted rookie Chris Brooks made his case to surpass Gaskin on the depth chart. Strong showing in preseason loss
Gaskin carried the ball seven times for 57 yards and caught both his targets for 20 yards in Friday's preseason loss to the Falcons.
Analysis: Rookie De'Von Achane was expected to get a chance to flash his elite speed in the exhibition opener, but instead it was Gaskin who got the start in the backfield, and his experience in coach Mike McDaniels' system showed as he led Miami in rushing yards and scrimmage yards. With Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson (undisclosed) at the top of the depth chart, Gaskin could be fighting with Salvon Ahmed for the fourth and final spot at RB, but his solid performance Friday should keep him firmly ahead.

Analysis: Gaskin was inactive Christmas Day against Green Bay due to an illness, and he'll now miss the remainder of the regular season after going on IR. There's a possibility that he could return for the AFC Championship Game if Miami advances that far, though Gaskin probably wouldn't have a major role in that scenario. Gaskin had four carries for nine yards and caught three of five targets for 24 yards during Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Gaskin saw opportunities behind Raheem Mostert after Chase Edmonds presumably was benched due to continued drops, effectively making him Miami's third-down back. It remains to be seen whether Edmonds will be back in the coaching staff's good graces for Week 6's matchup against the Vikings.

Inactive Sunday
Gaskin is inactive for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
Analysis: With Gaskin the odd man out Sunday, Salvon Ahmed is active and in line to work behind Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert in Miami's Week 2 backfield.

Buried behind Edmonds and Mostert
Gaskin did not log an offensive snap during Sunday's 20-7 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Gaskin was active Week 1, but his involvement versus New England was limited to five snaps on special teams even with Salvon Ahmed (heel) sidelined. With the Dolphins' rushing engine operating efficiently through Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, Gaskin's only fantasy value at the moment is as an insurance policy.

Practices in full
Gaskin (neck) was a full participant in practice Thursday. Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Gaskin's injury had left him limited in practice earlier in the week, but he should be ready to go Sunday against the Patriots. The fourth-year pro will likely be looking at a limited role, as the Dolphins overhauled their backfield with the additions of Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert, pushing Gaskin to No. 3 on team's running back positional depth chart.

Limited Wednesday
Gaskin was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice due to a neck injury, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Gaskin finds himself as one of three Miami running backs who were listed as limited participants Wednesday, leaving Raheem Mostert as the only healthy running back to start the week. The extent of Gaskin's neck injury remains unclear, but it's hard to project what the Dolphins' backfield will look like Week 1 with the majority of their running backs currently banged up.

Fares well in preseason finale
Gaskin rushed six times for 39 yards in Miami's 48-10 preseason win over the Eagles on Saturday.
Analysis: Gaskin helped the Dolphins combine for more than 200 rushing yards against Philadelphia, but his chances of securing a spot on the final roster still can't be guaranteed. With Miami having revamped the backfield, all of Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert and Sony Michel now seemingly reside above Gaskin on the depth chart. Even if Gaskin does make it through roster cuts, he will only stand to handle a depth role.

Part of crowded backfield
Gaskin has further competition for backfield snaps following the Dolphins' signing of Sony Michel, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Dolphins previously added Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert (knee) this offseason, while fellow returnee Salvon Ahmed received a contract tender from the team. Collectively, the moves provide first-year coach Mike McDaniel with a deep backfield with which to work, but in terms of Gaskin's fantasy prospects, steady volume figures to be an issue when all the key RB cogs are available. Facing crowded backfield
Gaskin may have fallen as low as No.3 on Miami's running back depth chart, with the team having signed Raheem Mostert (knee) on Wednesday and Chase Edmonds earlier in free agency, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: One of new coach Mike McDaniel's top tasks in Miami is revitalizing the ground game, and the team wasted no time in bringing in two experienced and reliable tailbacks. Mostert has already proven an ability to post prolific numbers under McDaniel's scheme, though he is recovering from a serious knee injury, while Edmonds emerged as one of the more effective change-of-pace complements in the league during his Arizona tenure. Quiet end to 2021 campaign
Gaskin had one carry for minus one yards and secured all three of his targets for 11 yards during Sunday's 33-24 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Gaskin saw Duke Johnson (25-117-1) overtake the lead role in Miami's backfield down the stretch, while he himself only played 11 percent of offensive snaps during the season finale. With a new coaching staff incoming, the stage would appear set for the Dolphins to re-sign Johnson this offseason and/or bring in further backfield help via free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft. Any such addition would cause Gaskins' fantasy value to further dip in dynasty formats, as his chances of beginning the 2022…read more

Plays second fiddle in loss
Gaskin had five carries for 23 yards during Sunday's 34-3 loss to the Titans.
Analysis: Gaskin also failed to secure his only target, while once again surrendering the lead role to Duke Johnson (seven carries for 49 yards). Though Gaskin was relatively efficient with limited work, he saw slim opportunities for fantasy success on a day in which Tua Tagovailoa fell flat and looked unable to move Miami into scoring range. Only four touches
Gaskin rushed three times for 10 yards and caught one of three targets for six yards in Monday night's 20-3 win over the Saints.
Analysis: Gaskin saw his workload decrease for a second straight week, as last game's breakout saw Duke Johnson earn a large role alongside Phillip Lindsay, who returned from injury to play for the first time since Week 12. Although Johnson and Lindsay tied for Miami's team lead with 13 carries apiece, neither tailback topped 40 yards. Cedes lead role to Johnson in win
Gaskin rushed 10 times for 54 yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Gaskin was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, so he had limited practice reps heading into this game and thus ceded the majority of the workload to Duke Johnson, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts. The strong performance from Johnson could prompt the Colts to keep him in a timeshare with Gaskin, if not the lead role, in Week 16 against the Saints.

Analysis: Gaskin, along with fellow running back Salvon Ahmed, was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, which sets the stage for the duo to be part of a Week 15 backfield that also includes Duke Johnson. Meanwhile, Phillip Lindsay (reserve/COVID-19 list) and Malcolm Brown (quad/IR-R) are unavailable for the contest. Not on injury report
Coach Brian Flores was non-committal about playing Gaskin and fellow running back Salvon Ahmed in Sunday's game against the Jets, though neither is listed on the injury report after returning from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Gaskin was on the list for seven days, missing part of Miami's bye and the first two practices this week. He should be able to play Sunday, but it's possible his workload is scaled back, especially if Malcolm Brown (quad) suits up after being designated to return from IR earlier this week. The Dolphins also have Duke Johnson as a backfield option, while Phillip Lindsay (illness) appears likely to miss Sunday's game as he's on the COVID-19 list.

Returning to practice Friday
Gaskin (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday and is available to practice, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: Gaskin landed on the COVID-19 last after testing positive for the virus during Miami's bye week, and he'll return to the active roster without missing any game action. The Dolphins placed Gaskin on the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday.
Analysis: Per Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald, Gaskin is vaccinated, which means his placement on the list was the result of a positive test. He'll be eligible to come off the list once he's asymptomatic for a 48-hour period and submits two consecutive negative tests at least 24 hours apart. Stalls against Giants
Gaskin carried the ball 15 times for 44 yards in Sunday's 20-9 win over the Giants. He added two receptions for five yards.
Analysis: Gaskin continued to see plenty of volume, as he reached 15 total touches for the seventh consecutive game. However, he was unable to find the end zone, so his inefficiency finally caught up to him. Gaskin has averaged under four yards per carry in each of his last six contests, though four touchdowns in that span masked his otherwise poor performances. Gaskin rushed 16 times for 49 yards and two touchdowns and brought in both targets for three yards in the Dolphins' 33-10 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: Gaskin saw new arrival Phillip Lindsay log 12 carries of his own, but it was the former who got two rushing opportunities from inside the five-yard line that he parlayed into a pair of three-yard touchdown runs. Capitalizes on favorable matchup
Gaskin rushed 23 times for 89 yards while catching three of four targets for seven yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Gaskin delivered a strong performance in a workhorse role against a generous Jets defense. He broke a 14-14 tie with a five-yard receiving touchdown in the fourth quarter, and the Dolphins never looked back from there. While his 26 touches were highly encouraging, Gaskin will face a much stiffer test in Week 12 against the Panthers.

Stymied on ground again
Gaskin rushed 14 times for 31 yards and secured one of two targets for 14 yards in the Dolphins' 22-10 win over the Ravens on Thursday night.
Analysis: Gaskin found running room next to impossible to come by for the second time in five days, as his 2.2 yards per rush Thursday was only a slight improvement on the 1.8 yards per tote he'd mustered against the Texans in a Week 9 win Sunday. Gaskin's issues are primarily the result of spotty run blocking, but irrespective of the source of the problem, the fact is his fantasy value is significantly capped at the moment. Busy day in win
Gaskin rushed 20 times for 34 yards and a touchdown and secured all six targets for 23 yards in the Dolphins' 17-9 win over the Texans on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Sometimes a productive fantasy performance is achieved through sheer volume, and such was the case for Gaskin on Sunday. The third-year back surprisingly had trouble finding running room against what had been an increasingly porous Texans run defense, but he helped lock in a productive afternoon with a six-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and his second-highest catch total of the season. Gaskin next faces a tough Ravens run defense in a Thursday night home matchup.

Garners 15 total touches in win
Gaskin rushed 12 times for 36 yards and secured three of four targets for 19 yards in the Dolphins' 26-11 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
Analysis: Gaskin paced the Dolphins backfield in carries and rushing yardage, but his overall numbers left plenty to be desired. The third-year back does at least now have double-digit carries in consecutive games for the first time this season, and even though running behind Miami's lackluster run-blocking offensive line caps his overall ceiling, Gaskin at least will have a chance at better production at home against the Texans in Week 9.

Gaskin rushed 15 times for 67 yards, secured all four targets for 10 yards and a touchdown and returned two kickoffs for 29 yards in the Dolphins' 30-28 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
Analysis: Gaskin had logged single-digit carry totals for three straight games prior to Sunday, but he parlayed a season-high number of carries into a new high-water mark in rushing yardage. Gaskin also made his mark through the air while notching his third straight multi-catch tally and his third receiving touchdown of the campaign on a seven-yard scoring grab just before the halfway point of the fourth quarter. Abysmal effort against Jaguars
Gaskin rushed the ball five times for nine yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Jaguars. He added two receptions for five yards.
Analysis: Gaskin was the beneficiary of game script for a big Week 5 effort, but he couldn't carry that momentum into Sunday's loss. He drew five of the team's 20 rushing attempts, two fewer than Salvon Ahmed. Even factoring in the limited volume he received, Gaskin did little, as his longest rush went for only four yards and he averaged just 1.8 yards per carry. Through six games, Gaskin has topped five rushing attempts only twice and surpassed 50 rushing yards in a game on one occasion.

Ten catches, two TDs in Week 5 loss
Gaskin rushed five times for 25 yards and caught all 10 of his targets for 74 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 45-17 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Gaskin reestablished himself as the primary option in Miami's backfield, though the Dolphins rarely tested the dominant Tampa Bay front on the ground and largely abandoned the run after falling behind. His career-high 10 catches included touchdowns of 24 yards and one yard. Gaskin hadn't previously found the end zone this season, but his significant involvement as both a rusher and a receiver will make the 24-year-old running back an appealing Week 6 option against the winless Jaguars in London.

Sees more work against Raiders
Gaskin carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards and caught three of six targets for nine yards in Sunday's 31-29 overtime loss to the Raiders.
Analysis: The carries and rushing yards both were season highs for Gaskin, who was more heavily involved in the offense with Jacoby Brissett under center in place of Tua Tagovailoa (ribs). The running back was less effective as a receiver, however, as he and Brissett had trouble getting on the same page. Nine touches in blowout loss
Gaskin rushed five times for 25 yards and caught four of five targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 35-0 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Miami had to abandon the running game after falling behind early, and Gaskin worked in a three-man rotation with Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed. All three running backs got either five or six carries, but none got much going as Miami struggled to move the ball with backup Jacoby Brissett under center following an early Tua Tagovailoa rib injury. Gaskin carried the ball nine times for 49 yards in Sunday's Week 1 victory against the Patriots. He added five receptions for 27 yards.
Analysis: Gaskin led the Miami backfield with nine carries, though Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed combined for eight carries. He was fairly efficient with those touches, recording gains of 15 yards and an additional carry of eight yards. Gaskin also produced well as a receiver, as he led the team with five receptions and successfully hauled in all of his targets. Analysis: Gaskin made a strong case for being deployed as a true lead back in a crowded backfield come the regular season with Saturday's versatile performance. The third-year back had a hand in both of Miami's first-half touchdowns, finding the end zone from a yard out on the ground in the first quarter before adding an eight-yard receiving score to cap off an 11-play drive early in the second quarter. May lead committee
Head coach Brian Flores said the Dolphins will employ Gaskin, Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed "situationally as best fits their skill set and what's best for the team," Barry Jackson and Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald report. "Gaskin can play first, second, third down, but depending on the situation, we may put another player in there," Flores said.
Analysis: Additionally, Flores labeled Gaskin as a "change of place" player as compared to "a power back" in Brown. As for Ahmed, Flores said he simply "has good speed, coming out of the backfield." In last weekend's preseason loss to Chicago, Brown made the start at running back, with Gaskin and Ahmed coming off the bench. Works behind Brown
Gaskin came off the bench in Saturday's 20-13 preseason loss to Chicago, taking four carries for 19 yards and one catch for three yards.
Analysis: Gaskin's performance wasn't an issue, but fantasy managers might be nervous to see free-agent addition Malcom Brown getting the start at RB as well as the first four carries. Brown finished with eight carries for only nine yards and was even stuffed on a 3rd-and-goal from the 1-yard line, but while his stat line may be ugly, the usage/role was promising. Escapes draft with lead role intact
Gaskin remains atop Miami's backfield depth chart after the team waited until the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft to bring in competition, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Dolphins were widely considered one of the likeliest teams to invest high draft capital into a running back this year, but the team's decision to only add Gerrid Doaks with their final pick is a clear indication of confidence in Gaskin. Confirmed as out for Week 15
Gaskin (illness) won't be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's game against the Patriots, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Since Gaskin's placement on the list Dec. 12 was the result of a positive test rather than being a close contact of a person infected with the virus, he'll unsurprisingly be held out for a second straight week while he waits to clear all COVID-19-related protocols. At this point, Gaskin isn't known to be suffering from any major symptoms of the virus, but he'll still likely need to practice in some capacity next week to have a shot at suiting up in the Dolphins' next game Dec. 26 in Las Vegas.

Ready to face Chiefs
Gaskin (knee) will not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Gaskin was limited in practice with a knee issue this week, but it never appeared as though his status for Sunday's matchup was in any real doubt. The second-year pro has handled a workhorse role for the Dolphins whenever healthy this season, to the tune of 23 total touches in his first game back from IR last weekend. Unless Matt Breida (illness) can return from the COVID-19 list by Saturday, it looks like DeAndre Washington will serve as Gaskins' primary backup this weekend.

Gaskin (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: The Dolphins continue to manage Gaskins' reps, which isn't too surprising considering that he spent Weeks 9 through 12 on IR due to a knee injury. Miami has shown a clear desire to utilize Gaskin in a workhorse role as long as he's healthy, and the team doesn't currently have much in the way of backfield depth behind him. Gaskin (knee) is expected to operate as the Dolphins' lead back Sunday against the Bengals, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: After Gaskin missed the past month with an MCL sprain, the Dolphins may have preferred to ease him back into action this week in a committee role, but the team doesn't have many options on hand with Salvon Ahmed (shoulder), DeAndre Washington (hamstring) and Matt Breida (reserve/COVID-19 list) all sidelined. Beyond Gaskin, the lightly-used Patrick Laird checks in as the top backup, while wide receiver Lynn Bowden looms as a backfield option in Wildcat formations. Gaskin was solid if…read more

Set for Sunday
Gaskin (knee) was activated off injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Gaskin's status became all the more important Friday following Salvon Ahmed (shoulder) and DeAndre Washington (hamstring) both being listed as doubtful for Sunday's contest against the Bengals, on top of Matt Breida landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Expect the second-year back to command the majority of the team's snaps with Patrick Laird occasionally sliding in during pass-catching downs.

Could be activated Saturday
Coach Brian Flores said Friday that there's a chance Gaskin (knee) could be activated off IR on Saturday, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Flores officially was non-committal about Gaskins' prospects of coming off IR, but given that Salvon Ahmed (shoulder) and DeAndre Washington (hamstring) are both doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bengals, and Matt Breida is dealing with an illness, the Dolphins are in dire need of backfield reinforcements. Gaskin was Miami's clear starter prior to missing the last four games due to an MCL injury, so if he's in shape to play he'll surely reclaim the lead role.

Not playing Sunday
Gaskin (knee) will not play Sunday after the running back was not activated off injured reserve in time to be eligible to play in the contest, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: There was some thought Gaskin could play after serving his mandatory three-game stint on injured reserve, but Saturday's lack of announcement means he'll be unable to play Sunday against the Jets. With Salvon Ahmed (shoulder) also ruled out, Matt Breida will step into the starting role with Patrick Laird and DeAndre Washington expected to chip in as complementary pieces.

Could be activated this week
Coach Brian Flores relayed Friday that the team's coaching staff will review the film on Gaskin (knee) before determining if he'll be activated for Sunday's game against the Jets, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gaskin, who is still on IR, has been practicing this week and if he is indeed deemed fit to play this weekend, there's a path for him to reclaim the team's lead role, with Salvon Ahmed (shoulder) having been ruled out for Sunday's contest. Miami's other backfield options include Matt Breida, Patrick Laird and DeAndre Washington.

Cleared to practice
The Dolphins designated Gaskin (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Dolphins will have 21 days to evaluate Gaskin for a return to the 53-man roster. Gaskin was seen donning a non-contact jersey Wednesday, so he might need to increase his involvement in workouts Thursday and Friday to have a realistic shot at playing Sunday against the Jets. Undrafted rookie Salvon Ahmed has impressed enough in recent weeks that Miami likely won't feel the need to rush Gaskin back into action unless the team is convinced he's at or near 100 percent health.

Faring well in recovery
Gaskin (knee) is recovering well from the MCL sprain he sustained Nov. 1, but the Dolphins haven't indicated that he'll be activated from injured reserve this week, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Gaskin is first eligible to return from IR in Week 12 after sitting out the minimum three games with the injury. If the Dolphins aren't convinced the 23-year-old is healthy enough to play this weekend against the Jets, the team would likely rely on undrafted rookie Salvon Ahmed to lead the ground attack for another game.

Headed for IR
Gaskin (knee) will be placed on IR and miss a minimum of three games, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Gaskin's original timetable for a return from a sprained MCL was roughly three games, so it makes sense for the team to put the back on IR and clear up a roster spot. It makes for a tough position group to gauge, as Matt Breida (hamstring) and Patrick Laird (ankle) are both dealing with injuries of their own. The Dolphins may soon find themselves using Jordan Howard again, who had been a healthy scratch for three consecutive games. They also acquired DeAndre Washington via trade, but as a new…read more

In line to sit out three games
Gaskin is expected to miss the Dolphins' next three games due to a sprained MCL, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Gaskin has been the team's top RB this season, gaining 585 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 130 touches through seven games. His work on the ground has been modest (3.9 YPC), but he also has gathered in 30 of 35 targets (86 percent catch rate). With such a void to fill in the backfield, Miami dealt for DeAndre Washington before Tuesday's deadline. Washington will join Matt Breida, Patrick Laird (ankle), Lynn Bowden, Jordan Howard and Salvon Ahmed in the backfield.

Totals 63 yards in win
Gaskin rushed 18 times for 47 yards and a touchdown and brought in three of six targets for 16 yards in the Dolphins' 28-17 win over the Rams on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
Analysis: Gaskin struggled for running room against the Rams' typically accommodating run defense, but he helped fantasy managers with his one-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter. That score atoned for a lost fumble, the first of Gaskin's career, earlier in the period. The 2019 seventh-round pick now has logged double-digit carries in five straight games, leaving no doubt as to his leading status in Miami's backfield. He'll look put together another productive performance versus the Cardinals…read more

Career-best effort Sunday
Gaskin carried the ball 18 times for 91 yards and caught all four of his targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 24-0 win over the Jets.
Analysis: Both the 91 rushing yards and 126 scrimmage yards were career highs for the second-year back, as Miami spent much of the second half burning clock after taking a 21-0 lead into halftime. Gaskin has a firm hold on the No. 1 job in the Dolphins' backfield, and his role is unlikely to change following the team's Week 7 bye.

Produces well with 21 touches
Gaskin carried 16 times for 57 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 yards on five catches (five targets) during Sunday's 43-17 win over the 49ers.
Analysis: Gaskin struggled to the tune of 3.6 yards per carry but still managed to come through with his second-highest totals of the season in carries and rushing yards. He scored a one-yard touchdown in the first quarter and rounded out his performance with five receptions for the third time in the last four games. Gaskin's yardage totals aren't elite, but he's received 61 touches over the last three games and could get a few more chances in the red zone moving forward for a surprisingly productive…read more

Potentially expanded role Week 5
Gaskin could be set for a larger role, particularly in the red zone, with backfield mate Jordan Howard (coach's decision) inactive for Sunday's Week 5 tilt against the 49ers.
Analysis: Gaskin has already logged 14 red-zone rushes through four games, but he may be set for an even larger role than usual with Howard out, that is if the Dolphins offense manages to put him in position frequently enough against a tough 49ers defense. Gaskin is averaging 12.0 rushes per contest and 4.0 yards per carry thus far, but he'll be challenged against a San Francisco unit tied with the Seahawks for least fantasy points per game allowed per game in standard formats (10.0) to running backs.

Garners 62 total yards in defeat
Gaskin rushed 10 times for 40 yards and brought in three of four targets for 22 yards in the Dolphins' 31-23 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
Analysis: Gaskin once again served as the unquestioned lead back after logging a career-high 22 carries in Week 3 win against the Jaguars, but game script helped cap his overall workload. However, all signs point to the second-year back being the odds-on favorite for pacing the backfield in carries for the time being, and he's the only one of the trio of himself, Matt Breida and Jordan Howard to post double-digit rushes in a game this season. Lead-back duties in win
Gaskin rushed 22 times for 66 yards and brought in all five targets for 29 yards in the Dolphins' 31-13 win over the Jaguars on Thursday.
Analysis: Through the Dolphins' first two games, the backfield wealth was essentially spread amongst Gaskin, Matt Breida and Jordan Howard, with no clear-cut lead back. That clearly changed for at least one game Thursday, as Gaskin outpaced his aforementioned teammates by 19 carries each and also co-led the team in both receptions and targets. Compiles 82 total yards in loss
Gaskin rushed seven times for 46 yards and brought in six of seven targets for 36 yards in the Dolphins' 31-28 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
Analysis: The Dolphins' backfield touches were once again spread fairly evenly among Gaskin, Matt Breida and Jordan Howard, but it was Gaskin who had the clear overall lead in total touches. That was thanks to the second-year back's expanded receiving role, which saw him check in third in receptions and fourth in targets on the day. Breida is also a capable pass catcher, so he could certainly see an expanded role in that capacity in future weeks as well, but Gaskin has encouragingly been a focal point…read more

Backfield role secure
The Dolphins intend to utilize all of Gaskin, Jordan Howard and Matt Breida out of the backfield going forward, Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Though Howard started Sunday's season-opening loss to the Patriots, Gaskin served as Miami's clear lead back during the contest. The second-year pro led Miami's backfield in terms of carries, targets and yards, though Howard did score the team's only touchdown. Matt Breida matched Gaskins' 4.4 yards per carry, but on four less attempts. It looks as though the Dolphins' backfield split could change on a weekly basis depending on who stands out in practice, a scenario which would cause headaches…read more

Team's leading rusher in opener
Gaskin rushed nine times for 40 yards and caught all four of his targets for 26 more in Sunday's 21-11 loss to New England.
Analysis: Gaskin surprisingly led Miami in both carries and yards on the ground, with Jordan Howard rushing eight times for seven yards and a touchdown and Matt Breida rushing five times for 22 yards. Gaskin also tied for the team lead in catches. Howard's struggles have opened the door for Gaskin to take over as the team's lead back, and he'll have a chance to solidify that role in Week 2 against the Bills.

In mix for No. 3 role
Gaskin (ankle) will compete with Patrick Laird and Kalen Ballage for the No. 3 running back job in training camp, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: Gaskin and Laird both saw increased usage down the stretch of their rookie seasons in 2019, with Ballage having flamed out after averaging just 1.8 yards on 74 carries. Prior to suffering an ankle injury Week 16, Gaskin at least proved superior efficiency to Ballage, taking 36 carries for 133 yards and one touchdown while hauling in seven of 12 targets for 51 yards. Provided he doesn't suffer any setbacks recovering from the ankle issue, the 2019 seventh-round pick could offer Laird legitimate…read more

Gaskin (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: In the wake of Kenyan Drake getting shipped to the Cardinals and later Kalen Ballage landing on IR due to a leg injury, Gaskin slowly but surely increased his reps in the second half of the campaign. Prior to injuring his left ankle Week 16, Gaskin accrued 36 carries for 133 yards and one touchdown while gathering in seven of 12 targets for 51 yards in seven contests. Week 17 status up in air
Gaskin's status is murky for Sunday's game at New England due to a left ankle injury, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Despite departing with 3:59 remaining in the fourth quarter this past Sunday against the Bengals, Gaskin received the most touches (17) among Dolphins running backs in a game that went to overtime. If he indeed sits out the regular-season finale, Miami's backfield will be whittled down to Patrick Laird, De'Lance Turner and potentially a player currently not under contract.

First career TD before injury
Gaskin rushed 16 times for 55 yards and a touchdown and secured one of three targets for three yards in the Dolphins' 38-35 overtime win against the Bengals on Sunday before exiting the game for good with 3:59 remaining in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.
Analysis: Before his premature exit, Gaskin had notched his first career rushing score early in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run. Gaskin also established new high-water marks in carries and rushing yards in the contest, but his status for the Week 17 finale against the Patriots is now firmly in question.

Productive in limited action
Gaskin carried the ball nine times for 43 yards and caught two of three targets for 29 yards during Sunday's 36-20 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: Gaskin once again played second fiddle to Patrick Laird during Sunday's loss, but he notched season-high totals in terms of both rushing and receiving yards. The rookie seventh-round pick has steadily earned increased touches down the stretch, and he could realistically operate in a near-even timeshare with Laird against the Bengals in Week 16.

Little impact in loss
Gaskin carried the ball four times for five yards during Sunday's 22-21 loss to the Jets. He also caught one of two targets for six yards.
Analysis: The rookie seventh-round pick once again played second fiddle to Patrick Laird, who is operating as Miami's featured option out of the backfield. Even with Kalen Ballage (Achilles) now on injured reserve, Gaskin's lack of production, albeit in a small sample, may be keeping him from garnering a larger role. It remains to be seen whether Gaskin, or potentially recent pickup Zach Zenner, will operate as the primary backup to Laird down the stretch.

Larger role beacons
Gaskin is expected to see increased involvement out of the Miami backfield after Kalen Ballage (Achilles) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Gaskin stands to duke it out with Patrick Laird and Zach Zenner for backfield work to close out the season, while De'Lance Turner looms as more of a special-teams contributor. Laird has shown well as a pass catcher in recent weeks, and he outpaced Gaskin in the Week 13 win over the Eagles, playing 43 offensive snaps (60 percent) to the latter's 16 (20 percent). Still, Gaskin could still see enough opportunities to push for a larger role if he impresses. In four games this season, the rookie…read more

Small role in win
Gaskin carried the ball twice for 20 yards during Sunday's 37-31 win over the Eagles. He also caught his only target for six yards.
Analysis: Even after lead back Kalen Ballage (leg) was forced out of Sunday's game in the second quarter, Gaskin didn't garner a substantial workload. Instead, fellow rookie Patrick Laird took over Miami's backfield reps, rushing 10 times for five yards and a score and turning five targets into four catches for 43 yards. It appears as though Gaskin could remain in a reserve role even if Ballage is forced to miss significant time.

Four carries in loss
Gaskin carried the ball four times for 10 yards in Sunday's 41-24 loss to the Browns. He also caught his only target for seven yards.
Analysis: Gaskin's workload appears to be ramping up following the recent release of Mark Walton, and with Kalen Ballage's continued inability to reliably produce, the Dolphins' backfield could trend towards a timeshare as the season concludes. In the event that Ballage loses his tenuous grip on the No. 1 job, Gaskin and fellow rookie Patrick Laird each would push for larger roles.

No yardage again Sunday
Gaskin ran once for no gain and was unable to bring in his only target during Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Gaskin has now gained zero yards on both of his 2019 touches. It speaks a little to where the 2019 seventh-round pick is in his development that, despite a massive lack of production and depletion of depth at running back in Miami in recent weeks, Gaskin has logged just 12 offensive snaps over the past two games. The release of Mark Walton, who was already serving a suspension, might preserve whatever role the rookie develops until the end of the season, but as of now that role amounts to a…read more

Gains no yardage in win
Gaskin caught his only target for no yards in Sunday's 16-12 win over the Colts.
Analysis: Gaskin got bumped up the depth chart in the absence of Mark Walton (suspension) and recorded the first touch of his career. There may not be too many more this season, even without Walton. If Sunday is any indication, Kalen Ballage will enjoy the lion's share of touches in Walton's absence while Patrick Laird fills in behind. Primed for backup role
Gaskin is likely to climb Miami's depth chart and play a reserve role with Mark Walton serving a four-game suspension, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Gaskin hasn't yet gotten a chance to play this season, but he and Patrick Laird will now be forced into depth roles behind Kalen Ballage for at least the next four weeks. The Dolphins may opt to add another running back to the roster, but the team could realistically also attempt to make the most of Walton's suspension by taking a look at Gaskin, a rookie selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
