Pre-Season Outlook
Hunter may be the biggest story of the 2025 NFL season, coming in as the No. 2 overall pick after starring as a two-way player at Colorado and winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy. The Jaguars say they view him as a wide receiver first and foremost, but he'll also practice with the defense at times and may ultimately prove to be the team's best cornerback. The team's hiring of an offensive-minded coach, former Bucs coordinator Liam Coen, could work in favor of Hunter mostly playing wide receiver and thus establishing fantasy value. He'll join an offense led by QB Trevor Lawrence and WR Brian Thomas, with plenty of opportunity for snaps but no immediate pressure to be Lawrence's top target. Hunter elected to skip pre-draft testing during the offseason, standing on his film after putting up 1,258 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in his final collegiate season. He'd been discussed as a cornerback first and foremost before 2024, but the massive production on offense challenged that assumption, potentially setting Hunter up to be a full-time WR (and part-time CB?) in the NFL.
