Just two receptions in win
Hockenson had two receptions for 13 yards on three targets in Sunday's win at Tennessee.
Analysis: Hockenson was on the field with the starters and played on 35 of the offense's 73 snaps, going out on 25 routes. After drawing nine targets in his previous game, he wasn't utilized as much against the Titan, which was a surprise since he's likely just getting back to full speed in his third game since returning from a torn ACL. He played the same share of snaps (45 percent) as his two previous games, so it's possible he could see increased usage as the season progresses.

Paces pass catchers in win
Hockenson recorded eight receptions on nine targets for 72 yards in Sunday's 12-7 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Sunday marked Hockenson's second game since returning from a torn ACL, but he quickly emerged as a favorite option for Sam Darnold. He tied for the team lead with nine targets and easily led the unit in yardage. Hockenson's longest gain came on a 26-yard catch and run early in the fourth quarter to set Minnesota up for the game-winning field goal. He has the potential to be one of the most impactful players at the position down the stretch, particularly if Darnold continues to struggle when…read more

Three catches in return
Hockenson (knee) caught three of four targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 21-13 win over the Colts.
Analysis: Hockenson returned from a lengthy recovery from surgery to his MCL and ACL tendons dating back to a Dec. 24 injury in the 2023 season. The star tight end was eased back into action with just four targets Sunday, but he figures to see his workload increase as the season progresses. Make sure Hockenson is rostered in your league, as he could provide significant value at a shallow fantasy position. A road game against Jacksonville is on deck for the Vikings.

Ready to return to action
Hockenson (knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Colts.
Analysis: With a trio of full practices behind him this week, Hockenson is poised for his first game action since he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Dec. 24. With Hockenson healthy, QB Sam Darnold will have his full allotment of skill-position talent available this weekend, namely WR Justin Jefferson, RB Aaron Jones, Hockenson and WR Jordan Addison.

Logs full practice Wednesday
Hockenson (knee) practiced fully Wednesday.
Analysis: After the Vikings designated Hockenson for return from the reserve/PUP list on Oct. 4, they had two chances to activate him for game action but opted not to do so. The team then brought him back to the active roster last Friday, and he now is practicing without limitations for the first time since tearing the ACL and MCL in his right knee last December. Hockenson thus has reclaimed his spot atop the depth chart at tight end for Minnesota as the team begins preparations for Sunday's contest…read more

Activated from PUP list
Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell announced Friday that Hockenson (knee) has been activated from the reserve/PUP list.
Analysis: In a corresponding move, Minnesota placed left tackle Christian Darrisaw (knee) on injured reserve to clear a spot on the 53-man roster for Hockenson. After suffering ACL and MCL tears last December and undergoing surgery on his right knee in January, Hockenson was sidelined for the start of the season before he was cleared to practice Oct. 4. Won't play Week 8, should be back Week 9
The Vikings downgraded Hockenson (knee) to out for Thursday's game against the Rams, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hockenson's 21-day practice window wraps up Friday, but the team intends to activate him from the reserve/PUP list before the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline and have him available for a Week 9 matchup agains the Colts on Sunday, Nov. 3. He tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee last season on Dec. 24, so he's exactly 10 months removed from sustaining the injuries.

Officially questionable for Thursday
Hockenson (knee), who remains on the reserve/PUP list, is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Rams.
Analysis: Hockenson will need to be added to the 53-man roster in order to be eligible to play Thursday, but the team hasn't yet committed to the standout tight end making his season debut Week 8. Given that Hockenson is working his way back from surgery to address ACL and MCL tears in his right knee, fantasy managers will need to be wary of the real possibility that he's worked in slowly even once cleared to play. Analysis: The Vikings didn't actually hold practice Monday but are required to release an injury report because they play the Rams this Thursday. Speaking with the media Monday, head coach Kevin O'Connell wasn't ready to say if Hockenson would be activated from the reserve/PUP list in time for Thursday, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

Not playing Week 7
Hockenson (knee) was downgraded to out Saturday and will not play Sunday against the Lions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: This isn't entirely surprising, as head coach Kevin O'Connell was non-committal about Hockenson making his season debut Sunday when asked by reporters earlier this week. The talented tight end will aim to be available Week 8 against the Rams.

Listed as questionable
Hockenson (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions.
Analysis: Hockenson returned to practice two weeks ago on Oct. 4, and the Vikings now will need to activate him from the reserve/PUP list by Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET if he's going to play this Sunday. Fantasy managers thus should have a decision on his availability at least 21 hours before the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday, although Hockenson won't be the same lineup lock he was in past years for what would be his first game back from ACL and MCL tears. Hockenson (knee) was limited at Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Hockenson is nearing the end of his second week of the 21-day window in which the Vikings have to evaluate him and eventually activate him from the reserve/PUP list. So far, he's logged three consecutive capped sessions going back to Oct. 4, and he even spoke about his odds to play Sunday against the Lions. Stays limited at practice
Hockenson (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.
Analysis: The Vikings designated Hockenson for return from the reserve/PUP list Oct. 4, and he managed a capped session that day. Following the team's Week 6 bye, he's maintained that activity level to begin the current week, so he may have to get back to full participation Thursday or Friday for Minnesota to feel comfortable bringing him back to the active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Lions.

Limited practice, won't play in game
Hockenson (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets after returning to practice Friday as a limited participant, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: There was probably never any chance the Vikings would rush Hockenson back into action right before a Week 6 bye. The question is whether he'll be ready for Week 7 against the Lions on Sunday, Oct. 20 or a Week 8 game against the Rams four days later. That's presumably what the Vikings expect, as it otherwise wouldn't make any sense to open Hockenson's 21-day practice window Friday instead of waiting until next week or the week after.

Officially designated for return
The Vikings announced Friday that Hockenson (knee) has been designated to return to practice from the reserve/PUP list.
Analysis: Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has made clear that Minnesota's plan was to get Hockenson back on the practice field Friday, after traveling with the team to London in preparation for Sunday's matchup against the Jets. That gives the Vikings a 21-day window to monitor Hockenson at practice. Practice window to open Friday

Analysis: Hockenson spent the first four games of the regular season on the reserve/PUP list while working his way back from right ACL and MCL tears sustained Dec. 24 of last season. Minnesota plans for Hockenson to travel with the team to London ahead of Sunday's game against the Jets and have his first practice session Friday. May practice next week
Coach Kevin O'Connell said Friday that the Vikings will discuss whether to open Hockenson's (knee) window next week when he's first eligible to practice, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Minnesota placed Hockenson on the reserve/PUP list on cut-down day Aug. 27, thus ruling him out for the first four games of the campaign as he continued his recovery from ACL and MCL tears that he suffered in his right knee Dec. 24 of last season. May be targeting post-bye return
The Vikings are thought to be loosely targeting a return from the reserve/PUP list for Hockenson (knee) after the team's Week 6 bye, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Analysis: Minnesota placed Hockenson on the reserve/PUP list upon trimming down to a 53-man roster, which rules the standout tight end out for at least the first four games of the season, but it sounds like Hockenson's return to the field could take until Week 7, after the team's bye. Starting season on PUP list
Hockenson (knee) will be on the PUP list to start the regular season, ruling him out for at least the first four games, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Hockenson has been on the active/PUP list since the start of training camp and will now shift to reserve/PUP on Tuesday as teams cut their rosters down to 53 players. He won't count against that limit for at least the first four weeks of the season, which means his earliest date for a 2024 debut would be Week 5 against the Jets (Oct. 6). Likely out for start of season
Hockenson (knee) isn't likely to be ready for Week 1 and could miss anywhere from three to seven regular-season games, ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler reports.
Analysis: While previous reports perhaps came off as more optimistic, Hockenson has always faced an uphill battle to be ready for the start of the season after suffering ACL and MCL tears on Dec. 24. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said last week that Hockenson is, "very well ahead of maybe where some of the medical folks thought he would be," but also cautioned that, "a timeline exists and we're going to try to stay true to that." The Vikings placed Hockenson (knee) on the active/PUP list Monday.
Analysis: The transaction confirms an announcement by coach Kevin O'Connell earlier Monday. Hockenson is eligible to come off the PUP list at any point during training camp or the preseason, once he's ready to practice, but given the timing of his late-January procedure to repair a torn ACL, the 27-year-old tight end seems like a real candidate to miss some time early in the regular season. Hockenson (knee) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn right ACL and MCL, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hockenson suffered his knee injury the day after Christmas. According to Lewis, even though Hockenson is making quick progress, the Vikings don't plan to rush him back, and the tight end's status for Week 1 remains in question. There's chance he opens the season on reserve/PUP. If so, veterans Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt are next up on the depth chart.

Hockenson (knee) underwent successful ACL surgery Monday.
Analysis: Hockenson's season ended when he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee on Dec. 26. Analysis: This transaction was expected after head coach Kevin O'Connell revealed Tuesday that Hockenson suffered ACL and MCL injuries in his right knee during this past Sunday's loss to the Lions, per Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com. Hockenson is slated for surgery at some point, and considering such severe injuries befell the tight end so late in the current campaign, he may be in danger of missing Week 1 of the 2024 season. Suffers torn ACL, MCL
Hockenson will require season-ending surgery after sustaining a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee during Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Lions, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hockenson is expected to be placed on injured reserve in the coming days, while the Vikings likely turn to Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt to fill most of the available snaps at tight end for the remainder of the season. Given the late-December timing of the surgery, Hockenson could face an uphill battle to gain clearance for Week 1 of the 2024 season. Outlook for knee injury 'not good'
Hockenson is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday after sustaining a right knee injury in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Lions, but the Vikings are bracing for the tight end to miss some time, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hockenson's initial outlook is said to be "not good" after he took a helmet to his knee during the Vikings' opening drive of the third quarter Sunday. Even if no structural damage is detected, Hockenson still could be dealing with a ligament issue that might threaten his availability for the final two games of the regular season, as well as any potential postseason run. Analysis: Hockenson suffered the injury on the Vikings' opening drive of the third quarter, when he took a hard shot to the knee following a reception, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. He'll finish the contest with four catches for 58 yards on four targets. Modest but productive day Saturday
Hockenson caught six passes for 63 yards on seven targets in the 27-24 overtime loss to the Bengals on Saturday.
Analysis: Hockenson was highly efficient and turned in a solid game for his fantasy investors, but it was easy to overlook his contributions in a game where he was overshadowed by Jordan Addison (six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns on six targets) and Justin Jefferson (seven catches for 84 yards on 10 targets). Analysis: The catches and yards were team highs on a day when both offenses simply couldn't get anything going. Hockenson (ribs) is active for Sunday's game against the Saints.
Analysis: Hockenson gutted out a rib injury last Sunday in Atlanta, but he still played 85 percent of snaps and gathered in seven of 12 targets for 69 yards and no touchdowns. He proceeded to be a limited practice participant during the entirety of Week 10 prep, and while he's suiting up this Sunday, there's an expectation that he won't receive his typical workload, per Ed Werder of ESPN. With Hockenson handling fewer snaps than normal and WRs Justin Jefferson (hamstring) and K.J. Osborn (concussion)…read more

May be limited Sunday
Hockenson (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, and while he's expected to be active for the contest, the tight end isn't expected to handle his typical snap share, Ed Werder of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Hockenson was a limited practice participant from Wednesday through Friday after he sustained a rib injury in the Vikings' Week 9 win over the Falcons. Though Hockenson still proceeded to play 85 percent of the snaps on offense against Atlanta and finished with a 7-69-0 receiving line on 12 targets, Werder notes that the 26-year-old is still affected by the rib injury, and the Vikings are expected to act more cautiously with his usage. Specifically, Werder relays that Hockenson will be on the…read more

Expected to take on Saints
Hockenson (ribs), who is officially listed as questionable, is expected to suit up Sunday versus New Orleans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Hockenson has been limited in practice due to the rib injury he suffered in a 31-28 win over Atlanta in Week 9, but he doesn't look as though he'll be forced to miss any game action as a result. The tight end's expected availability is welcome news for Minnesota's passing offense, as wideout Justin Jefferson (hamstring) wasn't activated from injured reserve this week and receiver K.J. Osborn (concussion) is shaping up as a game-time decision. Official word on Hockenson's status will arrive when…read more

Questionable for Week 10
Hockenson (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Saints, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Hockenson played through the injury after suffering it in Sunday's 31-28 win over Atlanta, finishing with seven catches for 69 yards while playing 85 percent of the available offensive snaps. He seems to have come out of the game with significant soreness but has a shot to avoid any absences after managing limited practice participation throughout the week. Stays limited Thursday
Hockenson (ribs) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
Analysis: Hockenson continues to operate with a cap on his practice reps as the Vikings navigate their way through Week 10 prep. A rib issue is to blame, but Hockenson told Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com on Thursday, "That's the plan," when asked about his chances to play Sunday against the Saints. That comment echoed one from coach Kevin O'Connell on Monday, but Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not Hockenson enters the weekend with an injury designation.

Hockenson (ribs) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday.
Analysis: In the wake of the Vikings' 31-28 win in Atlanta this past Sunday, head coach Kevin O'Connell told Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Hockenson was dealing with an oblique or rib issue. O'Connell also expressed hope Monday that the tight end would be able to play through the injury, according to Goessling. Hopeful to play against New Orleans
Head coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that he hopes Hockenson (ribs) will be able to play Sunday against the Saints, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Hockenson was the Vikings' leading receiver during Sunday's 31-28 win over the Falcons, but O'Connell revealed after the game that the tight end was tending to a rib issue. Hockenson is expected to be a limited practice participant to begin the week, but the team hopes that he won't be forced to miss any game action. A better idea of his status should come into focus as the week rolls along.

Leading receiver but suffers injury
Hockenson recorded seven receptions on 12 targets for 69 yards in Sunday's 31-28 win over Atlanta. Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell said after the game that Hockenson is also dealing with an oblique/rib issue, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Hockenson had a quiet first half, hauling in only one of three targets for seven yards. However, he came alive as Joshua Dobbs got settled into the game, with two of the tight end's catches going for key first downs and another setting up the game-winning score in the second half. Hockenson has now topped 50 receiving yards in five consecutive games, and it appears that he'll remain productive even without Kirk Cousins (Achilles). Strong showing in Week 8 win
Hockenson caught six of nine targets for 88 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-10 win over the Packers.
Analysis: The tight end's big day was punctuated by a two-yard TD from Kirk Cousins in the third quarter. Unfortunately for Hockenson and the rest of Minnesota's receiving options, Cousins suffered what's feared to be a season-ending Achilles tear late in Sunday's contest. With Nick Mullens (back) on IR for at least one more game, that will likely leave fifth-round rookie Jaren Hall under center in Week 9 against the Falcons.

Good to go Week 8
Hockenson (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's matchup with the Packers.
Analysis: Hockenson's availability comes as no surprise after the foot injury cost him just a snap or three during a 22-17 win over the 49ers on Monday. He finished the game with season highs for catches (11), yards (86) and targets (12), pushing his per-game averages up to 6.7 receptions for 55.7 yards. Logs limited practice Thursday
Hockenson (foot) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
Analysis: Hockenson is managing a foot issue that he sustained in the fourth quarter of Monday's 22-17 win against the 49ers. After sitting out Wednesday's session entirely, he appeared to be moving around OK during the media-access portion of Thursday's practice, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. Hockenson has one more chance this week to prove his health before the Vikings potentially hand him a designation for Sunday's game at Green Bay.

Sits out Wednesday's practice
Hockenson was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's practice estimate due to a foot injury.
Analysis: Hockenson hit the sideline for a spell during Monday's 22-17 win against the 49ers due to the foot injury, but after paying a visit to the medical tent, he was able to return to action. Overall, his snap share was a fairly standard 85 percent, and he also set season highs in catches (11), yards (86) and targets (12). Racks up catches in upset victory
Hockenson brought in 11 of 12 targets for 86 yards in the Vikings' 22-17 win over the 49ers on Monday night.
Analysis: Despite the fact he exited the game in the second half for a time due to a foot injury, Hockenson still finished with a game- and season-high number of receptions, receiving yards and targets. The fifth-year tight end has unsurprisingly seen his involvement rise during the two-game (and counting) absence of Justin Jefferson (hamstring, IR), and Hockenson could be in for another very busy day against the Packers in a Week 8 NFC North road battle.

Hockenson brought in six of eight targets for 50 yards in the Vikings' 19-13 win over the Bears on Sunday.
Analysis: Hockenson led the Vikings' pass-catching corps in receptions, receiving yards and targets in Minnesota's first game without Justin Jefferson (IR-hamstring), but the big tight end didn't really get going until the latter portion of the game. Five catches in Week 5 loss
Hockenson caught five of eight targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to Kansas City.
Analysis: The tight end saw at least eight targets for the fourth time in five games, although he was able to turn the volume into only modest production this time out. With Justin Jefferson (hamstring) missing the end of Sunday's contest and potentially unavailable in Week 6, however, Hockenson could wind up being Kirk Cousins' most reliable option against a Chicago defense that's allowed the third-most catches in the league to tight ends through five weeks.

Quiet in win
Hockenson caught two of three targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 21-13 win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Hockenson's lowest output of the campaign came while quarterback Kirk Cousins passed for merely 139 yards. In fact, Justin Jefferson was the only Viking to make more than two receptions, with rookie first-rounder Jordan Addison not managing any. Clearly, there wasn't much production to go around Minnesota's passing game Sunday, explaining Hockenson's small impact.

Analysis: Hockenson has been heavily reliant upon volume for production early this season, and that trend continued Sunday. He finished second on the team in targets but tallied only two catches that went for more than 10 yards. Hockenson will remain a must-start fantasy option as long as he holds such a key role in the offense -- he has at least eight looks in all three games this season. Analysis: The talented tight end had already amassed eight catches during the Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers, albeit for only 35 yards. Hockenson had one less grab but much more fantasy success four days later, scoring on a pair of five-yard grabs in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. Hockenson brought in eight of nine targets for 35 yards in the Vikings' 20-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Analysis: The talented tight end got his season off to a strong start reception-wise, with his catch and target totals second only to those of Justin Jefferson's on the afternoon. However, the Buccaneers' talented array of linebackers and safeties limited Hockenson to just 4.4 yards per reception with a 14-yard grab serving as his longest for the day. Hockenson (lower back) and the Vikings agreed Thursday to a contract extension, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The deal reportedly puts Hockenson among the highest-paid tight ends in the league, as one would expect of an eighth overall pick coming off career highs for catches (86) and yards (914). He missed a lot of time this summer with an ear infection and then a lower back injury, but the Vikings seemingly expect Hockenson to be ready for Week 1 against Tampa Bay.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Hockenson missed practice due to lower-back stiffness, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Hockenson has recovered from the ear infection that hampered him in mid-August, but the lower-back issue could sideline him for Saturday's preseason finale against the Cardinals. Hockenson (illness) said Monday he's dealing with an ear infection and is unsure whether he will participate in joint practices with the Titans this week, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hockenson participated in Monday's practice, per Seifert, though it was a walkthrough with no contact or pads. Clarity on the starting tight end's illness is helpful, as he can now be projected to resume practicing in full shortly after the infection fades. Coach Kevin O'Connell said Monday that Hockenson is battling an illness, Dane Mizutani of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Hockenson's illness explains his lighter practice activity over the weekend. Leading receiver in losing effort
Hockenson caught 10 of 11 targets for 129 yards in Sunday's 31-24 wild-card round loss to the Giants.

May not play full game
Head coach Kevin O'Connell intimated Friday that Hockenson and other key starters on offense and defense may not play the entirety of the Vikings' Week 18 game in Chicago, Joe Nelson of SI.com reports. "We've got a pretty clear cut plan with how we want to go about the whole game, but we're going to go in with the expectation of our guys going and try to get off to a good start and play good football," O'Connell said.
Analysis: Minnesota is assured no worse than the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs regardless of how this weekend's games transpire, but since the Vikings will need a win over the Bears plus a Cardinals win over the heavily-favored 49ers to climb to the No. 2 seed, O'Connell may not have much incentive to expose key players to an injury heading into the wild-card round. Analysis: The tight end tied K.J. Osborn for the team lead in receptions on a day when the Vikings offense mostly struggled and didn't score its first touchdown until well into the fourth quarter. Hockenson has caught at least three passes in every game since being traded to Minnesota and is just 102 receiving yards short of his first career 1,000-yard campaign, but with the team having nothing to play for in Week 18 except playoff seeding, he may not see a full workload against the Bears.

Cleared for Sunday
Hockenson (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Miami, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Neither do RB D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and WR Josh Reynolds (knee), while Amon-Ra St. Brown (concussion) is listed as questionable but tentatively expected to play. Hockenson has yet to miss a game this season despite frequently showing up on the injury report, and he's seen at least four targets in each game, albeit with 57 percent of his yardage and two of his three TDs coming in a single contest (Week 4 against Seattle).

Bumps up to limited Thursday
Hockenson (knee) was limited in practice Thursday.
Analysis: After kicking off Week 8 prep with no on-field activity, Hockenson bumped up to a capped session Thursday and now has one more practice to get back to full before the Lions potentially give him a designation for Sunday's game versus the Dolphins. The offense as a whole is getting healthier with No. 1 RB D'Andre Swift (ankle/shoulder) avoiding any practice limitations this week, though top WR Amon-Ra St. Brown remains in the concussion protocol. Dealing with knee concern
Hockenson didn't practice Wednesday due to a knee issue.
Analysis: Hockenson previously dealt with hip and foot injuries this season, but he's been able to suit up in all six of the Lions' games, earning between 76 and 91 percent of the offensive snaps on each occasion. With a new health concern in tow, his status should be watched closely as the week rolls along to ensure he'll be available this Sunday against the Dolphins. If active this weekend, Hockenson will be joined by top running back D'Andre Swift (ankle/shoulder) for the first time since Week 3 and…read more

Four catches against Cowboys
Hockenson caught four of five targets for 48 yards during Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Hockenson made a few nice catches, but Detroit's five total turnovers killed its most promising possessions and, ultimately, Hockenson's chances of finding the end zone. It probably didn't help him that the continued absences of D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and DJ Chark (ankle) were compounded by the loss of Amon-Ra St. Brown (concussion) in the first half. The resulting defensive focus on Hockenson seemingly led to the likes of Kalif Raymond, Brock Wright, Craig Reynolds, and Tom Kennedy seeing…read more

Hockenson caught one of four targets for six yards during Sunday's 29-0 loss to New England.
Analysis: With DJ Chark (ankle) and D'Andre Swift (shoulder) still sidelined and Amon-Ra St. Brown playing through an ankle sprain, the Patriots seemingly made sure to eliminate Hockenson from the Lions' game plan after the tight end put up prolific numbers against the Seahawks in Week 4. Good to go
Hockenson (hip) has no injury designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Analysis: Foot and hip injuries have limited his practice participation, but Hockenson has played more than three-quarters of available snaps each week this year, and he broke out in a big way Week 4 with eight catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-45 win over Seattle. That was with both DJ Chark (ankle) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) out of the lineup, and while Chark is ruled out for at least one more game, St. Brown is listed as questionable ahead of the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff this Sunday.

Hockenson (hip) was limited in practice Thursday.

Returns to practice Thursday
Hockenson (hip) took part in practice Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Among Lions skill-position players that didn't mix into drills Wednesday, Hockenson, DJ Chark (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) got back on the field, while Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and Quintez Cephus (foot) did not. Hockenson's activity level won't be known until the team posts its second injury report of Week 5 prep, but his return to practice is a positive sign in advance of Sunday's game at New England.

Hockenson was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice due to a hip injury.
Analysis: The Lions were without running back D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and DJ Chark (ankle) in Week 4 against the Seahawks, and Hockenson benefited mightily, gathering in eight of 12 targets for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Season-best effort Sunday
Hockenson secured eight of 12 targets for 179 yards and two touchdowns while also recording a two-point conversion pass in the Lions' 48-45 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
Analysis: With the Lions down valued short-to-mid-range assets D'Andre Swift (shoulder) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), along with DJ Chark (ankle), Hockenson unsurprisingly logged a season high in targets. However, it's what he managed to do with them that stood out, especially considering the talented tight end hadn't topped four receptions or 38 yards in any of the first three games of the season. Good to go for Sunday
Hockenson (foot) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Seattle, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson missed practice Wednesday and was limited Thursday before closing out the week with a full session Friday. He gets a nice matchup against the struggling Seattle defense, and his target-share projection improves with Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and D'Andre Swift (shoulder) both out of the lineup. It should lead to more fantasy interest in Hockenson this week, despite his slow start to the season (10-82-1 on 18 targets through three games).

Returns to practice Thursday
Hockenson (foot) was a limited participant in practice Thursday.
Analysis: Hockenson sat out Wednesday's session due to the foot issue, but his ability to take some reps Thursday seemingly puts him in good position to suit up this weekend against the Seahawks. The availability of other key targets in Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), DJ Chark (ankle) and D'Andre Swift (shoulder/shoulder) is less certain, and Hockenson could be in store for more involvement in the passing game than usual if any of those three players aren't available Sunday. First touchdown of season
Hockenson caught three of four targets for 18 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Vikings.
Analysis: On a day when Josh Reynolds paced the Lions in most receiving categories, Hockenson saw a downturn in targets after seeing seven in each of his first two outings of the year. Fortunately, he salvaged his fantasy day by snagging his first touchdown of the year on a bootleg that left Hockenson wide open in the flats. Hockenson (hip) is listed as active Sunday at Minnesota.
Analysis: Despite having a cap on his practice reps during Week 3 prep, Hockenson will play through a hip issue Sunday. His output has been lacking through two games, with a catch rate of 50 percent and 4.6 YPT on his 14 targets. Fortunately for Hockenson, he's taking on a Vikings defense that has given up a league-worst 10.6 YPT to tight ends this season.

Hockenson (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Minnesota.

The tight end managed limited practice participation Wednesday through Friday, putting him on track to be active ahead of the team's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff this Sunday. The 25-year-old tight end doesn't appear to be in danger of sitting out in Week 3 against the Vikings, and he'll look to step up his production after mustering just 64 yards through two games.

Bothered by hip
Hockenson was a limited practice participant Wednesday with a hip injury.
Analysis: The injury is likely a minor one, given that Hockenson managed a limited practice after playing 89 percent of Detroit's snaps on offense in a Week 2 win over Washington. He's seen 14 targets through two weeks while handling an every-down role, but with only seven catches for 64 yards, Hockenson is still looking for his first productive day as a pass catcher ahead of Sunday's road game against the Vikings.

Hockenson caught three of seven targets for 26 yards during Sunday's 36-27 win over Washington.
Analysis: Hockenson yet again saw a healthy amount of attention in the passing game, but he didn't do much with the chances he had outside of a fourth-quarter fingertip catch that went for 18 yards. Instead, Amon-Ra St. Brown remained the focal point of the Lions' passing game while D'Andre Swift, DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds saw a handful of looks. Earns seven targets
Hockenson caught four of seven targets for 38 yards during Sunday's 38-35 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: The good news is that Hockenson was one of three Lions receivers to earn more than three targets. However, he was generally the target of shorter throws and specifically the target of the pick-six that Jared Goff threw in the first half. Hockenson caught one of two targets for 15 yards in Sunday's preseason finale against the Steelers.
Analysis: Hockenson got rested in the Lions' first two preseason games, but head coach Dan Campbell decided to get his starting tight end some work before the regular season begins Sept. 11. The 25-year-old had his fifth-year option picked up this offseason following thumb surgery, and Sunday's preseason appearance confirms the tight end's clean bill of health heading into a Week 1 matchup against the Eagles. Hockenson (thumb) recently said he'll be healthy for the start of the Lions' offseason program, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports. "I'm almost there already, and it's only been a few weeks," Hockenson said. "Just a few more left, and I'll be 100 percent by the offseason."
Analysis: The tight end had surgery on his left thumb in mid-December, thus wrapping up the 2021 season with a 61-583-4 receiving line in 12 games (84 targets, 7.0 per week). Hockenson now enters the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, though the Lions presumably will exercise his fifth-year team option before the May 2 deadline. In any case, Hockenson will almost certainly need to return to practice in at least a limited fashion by Friday to have a shot at suiting up in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Coach Dan Campbell said Monday he's "hopeful" Hockenson (hand) will be available for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Analysis: Campbell said the same of D'Andre Swift (shoulder), so it looks like it's possible both of Detroit's top offensive weapons could be back on the field versus Arizona. Hockenson (hand) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game in Denver, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson was a limited practice participant Wednesday before sitting out Thursday and Friday, with Detroit beat reporters noticing a heavy wrap over his left hand. The Lions are woefully thin for the upcoming contest, with around half the roster missing practice time this week due to some combination of injuries, a flu bug and COVID-19. During that five-game stretch, he put together a 23-224-2 receiving line on 31 targets. Assuming he gets past the current issue by week's end, Hockenson again will serve as one of the Lions' top receiving options, but who will be throwing him passes is a question mark with Jared Goff unable to practice Wednesday due to an illness.

Hockenson caught four of eight targets for 49 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 29-27 win over Minnesota.
Analysis: Hockenson found the painted area for the second straight week as his up-and-down usage continues. Through 12 games, the tight end has seen eight or more targets eight times while seeing three or less targets in the remaining four games. If D'Andre Swift (shoulder) remains sidelined in Week 14, fantasy managers will need to hope that Hockenson doesn't get schemed out of the game plan by a decent Denver secondary.

His biggest gain of the day came late in the fourth quarter on a 24-yard reception, though the drive ultimately stalled and concluded in a punt. Cleared for Week 8
Hockenson (ankle/knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Analysis: Despite being listed on the injury report for much of the season, Hockenson has played at least 80 percent of snaps on offense in every game, with his 53 targets narrowly topping D'Andre Swift's 52 for the team lead. The third-year tight end should be a big part of Detroit's gameplan this Sunday against a slumping Philadelphia defense.

Remains limited at practice
Hockenson (ankle/knee) was limited at Thursday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Despite a rotating cast of Lions wide receivers, Hockenson hasn't been incredibly efficient with his workload, with his 53 targets going at a clip of 6.8 YPT. He's also reached the end zone just twice in seven games. Assuming he puts his ankle and knee injuries behind him ahead of Sunday's game, Hockenson will look to exploit an Eagles defense that has given up the second-most catches (46, tied with the Ravens) to tight ends this season.

Hockenson practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday due to ankle and knee injuries.
Analysis: Hockenson has been saddled with a knee injury for most of October, and now an ankle issue has reared its head on the Lions' initial Week 8 practice report. In three games since the knee issue first surfaced, Hockenson has compiled a modest 16-144-0 receiving line on 23 targets. Busy but inefficient
Hockenson (knee) caught six passes for 48 yards on nine targets against the Rams on Sunday.
Analysis: The Rams were well aware that the Lions would try to feed Hockenson in this one and prepared accordingly, including setting elite corner Jalen Ramsey against Hockenson at times. Although Hockenson's efficiency was lacking Sunday and the struggles of quarterback Jared Goff might make that an ongoing risk, the nine-target usage for Hockenson is rather encouraging. Analysis: Hockenson was withheld from the Lions' first Week 7 practice Wednesday, but his return to the field Thursday in a limited capacity suggests his absence from the field a day earlier may have been mostly for maintenance purposes. Hockenson may need to practice fully Friday to avoid carrying a questionable designation into Sunday's game against the Rams, but regardless, he appears on track to play this weekend.

Back at practice
Hockenson (knee) returned to practice Thursday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, but the tight end's return for Thursday's session bodes well for his chances of suiting up for Sunday's contest against the Rams. That said, it wouldn't surprise us to see Hockenson listed as questionable come Friday, as he was in advance of Week 6 action before suiting up this past Sunday against the Bengals en route to catching eight of his 11 targets for 74 yards.

Sits out practice
Hockenson (knee) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.
Analysis: The Lions haven't suggested that Hockenson suffered any sort of setback with his lingering knee injury coming out of the team's Week 6 loss to the Bengals, so his absence from Wednesday's session may have been for maintenance purposes more than anything. Though he failed to find the end zone for the fourth straight game last week, Hockenson tied his season high with 11 targets and caught eight balls for 74 yards.

Back to double-digit targets
Hockenson caught eight of 11 targets for 74 yards during Sunday's 34-11 loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Hockenson was the only reasonably productive member of the Lions offense before the game turned into a total blowout. After a number of duds the past few weeks, this output has to be a welcome sight for fantasy managers, especially in PPR formats. While Hockenson's efficiency could be volatile from week to week as long as he's attached to Jared Goff, we can at least expect the Lions' incompetent defense to continue to force the offense into passing situations, which should allow Hockenson to…read more

Playing Sunday
Hockenson (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Analysis: For the second straight contest, Hockenson is coming off a week in which his practice reps were capped by a knee issue. Still, he logged 81 percent of the offensive snaps last Sunday at Minnesota, which is in the realm of his usual workload (81-93 percent on any given game this season). Hockenson has been relatively quiet since reaching the end zone in Weeks 1 and 2, and he may have a tough time producing Sunday versus a Cincy defense that has allowed just 30.6 receiving yards per game to tight…read more

Hockenson (knee), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, is expected to play, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: While playing through the knee issue in the Lions' Week 5 loss to Minnesota, Hockenson was on the field for 81 percent of the offensive snaps and finished with two receptions for 22 yards on three targets. Though he doesn't look to be completely over the injury, expect a better performance Week 6 now that he's further removed from the knee issue.

Hockenson (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson played through the same injury last week and handled an 81 percent snap share against Minnesota, though he finished with only two catches for 22 yards on three targets. Hockenson (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson is managing the knee injury for the second week in a row, but the Lions haven't provided any indication that he suffered a setback coming out of Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Though he was held to just 22 yards on two receptions in the contest and then didn't practice Wednesday, Hockenson's return to the field Thursday likely puts him on pace to play this weekend against Cincinnati. Hockenson (knee) was present for Thursday's practice, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: It remains to be seen how the Lions list the tight end's participation level, but Hockenson's return to the field, in any capacity, represents a positive indicator with regard to his Week 6 status. Last week, Hockenson also followed a Wednesday DNP with a return to practice Thursday before being listed as questionable for this past Sunday's game against the Vikings, which he ended up suiting up for. That pattern could well be repeated in advance of this weekend's game against the Bengals.

Bothered by knee again
Hockenson (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson was listed as questionable with the same injury Week 5, ultimately playing 81 percent of the Lions' offensive snaps but catching just two passes for 22 yards on three targets in a 19-17 loss to Minnesota. Shut down by Minnesota
Hockenson caught two of three targets for 22 yards during Sunday's 19-17 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: With Detroit down its two best offensive linemen, Hockenson seemingly saw increased responsibilities in pass protection at the expense of his receiving production. Even though fantasy managers can't be satisfied with three straight scoreless weeks with less than 50 receiving yards, the return of starting left tackle Taylor Decker (finger) could free Hockenson up to run more routes, and the impending return of Tyrell Williams (concussion) could help take attention away from Hockenson in the…read more

He was then held out of Wednesday's practice before logging limited sessions Thursday and Friday. Analysis: Hockenson is appearing on the injury report for the first time since Week 1, when he was listed as a full participant after recovering from a summer shoulder injury. Usage back to expected levels
Hockenson caught four of eight targets for 42 yards during Sunday's 24-14 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: This probably wasn't the rebound fantasy managers wanted to see from Hockenson after he caught just two of two targets for 10 yards last week. However, outside of that Week 3 dud, Hockenson has averaged over nine targets per game, which would rank higher than any other tight end not named Travis Kelce or Darren Waller. Hockenson caught two of two targets for 10 yards during Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: After totaling 20 targets over the first two weeks of the season, Hockenson saw just two passes sent his way as the Ravens took away one of Jared Goff's safety valves. However, thanks in part to a surprising showing from the subpar Detroit defense, Goff also attempted just 30 passes after throwing 93 over the first two outings. With Goff more likely than not to attempt more throws than that in a given game, there should be plenty of better days ahead for Hockenson and his fantasy investors.

Analysis: Hockenson led the Lions in all major receiving categories, with his night highlighted by an eight-yard touchdown in the back of the end zone during the second quarter. The third-year pro has now scored in consecutive games to begin this season, catching eight passes in both outings as well. Top option in passing game
Hockenson caught eight of 10 targets for 97 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 41-33 loss to San Francisco. He also caught a two-point conversion.
Analysis: As expected, Hockenson and D'Andre Swift (11 targets) were the Lions' top options in the passing game as Jared Goff struggled to attack the 49ers' questionable group of cornerbacks. While it should be noted that Detroit was down 38-10 halfway through the third quarter -- which played a large role in Goff attempting a hefty 57 passes, and, in turn, Hockenson seeing double-digit targets -- the Lions defense may be bad enough to regularly force Goff to throw at will. Ready for season opener
Hockenson (shoulder) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
Analysis: Hockenson suffered an AC joint sprain Aug. 10 and missed the entire preseason, but his availability for Week 1 was never in serious doubt. He's one of the few tight ends with a decent shot to lead his team in targets, albeit in what likely will be a bottom-10 offense. Hockenson and the Lions start off with a tricky matchup, hosting a 49ers defense that has defensive ends Nick Bosa and Dee Ford coming off the edge and linebacker Fred Warner covering the middle of the field.

Hockenson (undisclosed) participated in Monday's practice and said afterward that he doesn't feel like he needs any snaps in Friday's preseason finale against the Colts to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: While the Lions only held a light practice Monday, Hockenson reportedly was impressive while catching passes in 1-on-1 drills. Granted, he was wearing a red non-contact jersey, but that arrangement only seemed like a precaution. Barring a setback, Hockenson seems well on track to be ready for the regular-season opener.

Hockenson (undisclosed) won't play in Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh but should ramp up his practice involvement next week, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Hockenson left practice early Aug. 10 and missed the Lions' preseason opener last Friday. It sounds like he'll have time to get ready for the season opener, with perhaps some chance for an appearance in the third and final preseason game Aug. 27 against Indianapolis. Sits out Week 1 of preseason
Hockenson (undisclosed) didn't suit up for Friday's preseason opener against the Bills.
Analysis: With Hockenson out, new Lions quarterback Jared Goff primarily targeted Tyrell Williams, who finished with two catches for 30 yards on four targets. Once healthy, Hockenson's likely to become Goff's top option in the passing game. The tight end, whom Detroit selected in the first round of the 2019 draft, will look to get healthy prior to Week 2 of preseason, when the Lions will travel to Pittsburgh.

Hockenson got banged up during Tuesday's practice and exited early with an undisclosed injury, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Head coach Dan Campbell used the words "minor" and "precautionary" when discussing Hockenson, who subsequently missed practice Wednesday, per Chris Burke of The Athletic. Even if his injury isn't serious, the tight end isn't likely to play in Friday's preseason opener against the Bills. Hockenson's absence would leave Darren Fells as Detroit's top tight end, followed on the depth chart by a slew of young players with minimal pro experience.

He may have been helped by Kenny Golladay's departure early in the third quarter due to a hip issue, which is expected to sideline the wideout for at least one game. One further point to note is that if Hockenson is able to gut out his toe injury this weekend at Minnesota, he may be on the receiving end of passes from Chase…read more

Sees double-digit targets
Hockenson caught seven of 10 targets for 65 yards during Sunday's 41-21 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Hockenson saw the second-most targets of his young career in a game in which he served as a quality safety valve for quarterback Matthew Stafford. While the exit of top receiver Kenny Golladay (hip) likely had something to do with his increased workload, Hockenson has been a steady contributor all season and drawing double-digit targets is certainly within his range of outcomes even on days when Golladay stays healthy. Regardless of Golladay's health, Hockenson should remain a solid option at a…read more

Late TD proves to be difference
Hockenson caught five of his six targets for 59 receiving yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 23-22 win against the Falcons.
Analysis: Hockenson snared a game-tying 11-yard touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford as time expired, with Matt Prater clinching the win for Detroit by way of a 48-yard extra point. The 2019 No. 8 overall draft choice has tallied a TD in three consecutive games, though he was held under 20 receiving yards in two of those outings. Hockenson has enjoyed a healthy workload of 5.2 targets per game, but a Week 8 matchup against Indianapolis is prohibitive. The Colts are yet to surrender a tight end TD in 2020…read more

Catches short touchdown
Hockenson recorded two receptions on five targets for 17 yards and a touchdown in Week 6 against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Hockenson tied for second on the team with five targets, but turned in his second-lowest yardage total of the season. He salvaged his day with a one-yard touchdown, his third of the campaign. Although Hockenson topped 50 yards in his first three games, he has combined to total 26 yards across the last two contests. He'll look to get things back on track in Week 7 in a positive matchup against Atlanta.

Finds end zone on quiet day
Hockenson caught two of four targets for nine yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-29 loss to the Saints. He also caught a two-point conversion.
Analysis: Hockenson was mostly held quiet by a Saints defense that had been the weakest in the league at defending tight ends coming into the game, though the second-year pro was able to salvage his day with a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter. His two-point conversion capped the scoring, as Detroit never got the ball back after pulling within six with 3:40 to go. Hockenson has caught 15 of 20 targets for 180 yards and two touchdowns heading into Detroit's Week 5 bye.

Unaffected by Golladay's return
Hockenson caught four of seven targets for 53 yards during Sunday's 26-23 victory over Arizona.
Analysis: Hockenson remained a focal point in the passing game despite the return of Golladay, who tied with Hockenson for the team lead in targets. As only one tight end in the league (Noah Fant) currently has a higher passer rating when targeted than Hockenson's gaudy measure of 155.8, per Pro Football Focus, there's a case to be made that Hockenson should be more involved going forward. However, there could also be more days when the Lions opt to pound the rock 22 times with Adrian Peterson, whose…read more

Catches every pass sent his way
Hockenson caught four of four targets for 62 yards during Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Packers.
Analysis: The absences of Kenny Golladay (hamstring) and Halapoulivaati Vaitai (foot) seem to have thrown a wrench in the Lions' offensive plans. While Hockenson has secured all nine of the passes sent his way through two weeks, he's only seen one target in the red zone, and his overall upside is likely capped as long as the Lions offense continues to struggle. If Golladay, in particular, remains out Week 3, expectations for Hockenson should remain capped despite a seemingly inviting matchup with the…read more

Catches touchdown in season opener
Hockenson caught five of five targets for 56 yards during Sunday's 27-23 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: A case could be made that Hockenson should have seen more passes on a day Stafford attempted 42 of them without Kenny Golladay (hamstring) at his disposal. However, Hockenson nonetheless did the most with what he was given. His score came by him boxing out a defender in the end zone for a four-yard touchdown. Should Golladay remain sidelined in Week 2, Hockenson will have another chance of seeing an expanded workload in a potentially high-scoring game against Green Bay.

Back to 100 percent
Hockenson said Thursday that he's "100 percent" healthy after he underwent season-ending right ankle surgery last December, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hockenson was already assumed to be healthy entering the season after he wasn't included on the first 2020 injury report the Lions released Wednesday, but it's at least encouraging that the tight end confirmed he's back to full strength after he admitted in mid-August that he wasn't quite back to 100 percent. The 2019 first-round pick will head into his sophomore season as the Lions' starting tight end, and the high-end athleticism he packs into his 6-foot-5, 251-pound frame should give him a…read more

Not 100 percent yet
Hockenson says his surgically repaired ankle isn't quite back to 100 percent strength, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell made a similar comment in mid-June, noting that the tight end had resumed running routes but likely would need more time to regain his pre-injury explosiveness. Hockenson is working his way back from the ankle injury that ended his rookie season Week 12, and while he's been able to practice with teammates to this point in training camp, it sounds like he's a work in progress. He has four weeks to ramp things up before the Lions are scheduled to face the…read more

Hockenson was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: This means Hockenson cleared multiple physicals as well as tests in order to be reinstated from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Hockenson, Kenny Golladay and a number of other Lions have been removed from the list in recent days, setting the stage for each player to return to practice.

Lands on COVID-19 list
Hockenson (ankle) was placed on the Lions' reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Hockenson's placement on the list mans that he has either tested positive for COVID-19 or has been in close contact with an infected person. The 2019 first-round pick -- who is also bouncing back from an ankle injury -- is in line to serve as the Lions' top tight end in 2020.

Getting closer to 100 percent
Lions offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said Hockenson has resumed running routes, but the tight end's right ankle may not be 100 percent, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hockenson had a star-crossed rookie season. After reeling off 131 yards and a touchdown on six catches Week 1 against the Cardinals, he surpassed 50 yards just one time in his 11 other appearances, finishing with a 32-367-2 line on 59 targets. Injuries limited him along the way, including a concussion, shoulder issue and ankle concern, the latter of which resulted in his placement on injured reserve Dec. 2. Recovering from ankle injury
Hockenson (ankle) was still using a scooter to get around in late December, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: There hasn't been any substantiative update on Hockenson's recovery from the season-ending ankle injury he suffered in late November. His continued use of a scooter a full month later suggests he had surgery, but neither player nor team has provided confirmation. The eighth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft finished his rookie season with 32 catches for 367 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games, struggling to make an impact after his 6-131-1 explosion Week 1 at Arizona. Heading to IR
Hockenson (ankle) will be placed on injured reserve, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Hockenson started his rookie campaign with a bang, corralling six of nine targets for 131 yards and a touchdown Week 1 at Arizona. Since then, he's contended with a concussion and a right shoulder injury, but he's also topped out at 56 receiving yards (Week 9 in Oakland) and scored just one more TD (Week 4 versus the Chiefs) in the ensuing 11 contests. Injures leg Thursday
Hockenson (leg) was wearing a walking boot and using a scooter to move about after Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Bears, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Hockenson was hobbled after making his sixth and final catch of the contest. In the immediate aftermath, he was on crutches outside the locker room, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. However, the Lions appear to be taking a more cautious approach with Hockenson's health due to presence of the boot and scooter. Look for the team to clarify the specific nature of his injury in due time.

Suiting up Thursday
Hockenson (shoulder) is listed as active Thursday versus the Bears.
Analysis: After showing up Saturday on the practice report with a shoulder injury, Hockenson now will play two games in the span of five days. With undrafted rookie David Blough under center, Hockenson may be called upon to block more often than not against a tough Bears front seven. Moreover, Hockenson may split reps with fellow tight ends Jesse James and Logan Thomas, though the latter (a college quarterback) may be the emergency QB option due to Jeff Driskel's sore hamstring.

Officially questionable
Hockenson (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Thursday's contest against the Bears.
Analysis: Hockenson was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, which is a good sign for his availability after he was labeled as a limited participant in the first two sessions of Week 13. If the rookie first-round pick suits up Thanksgiving Day, he'll lead a tight-end room that also features Jesse James and Logan Thomas.

Limited again Tuesday
Hockenson (shoulder) was limited at Tuesday's walkthrough, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Analysis: Hockenson has maintained his activity level through two injury reports this week, with Wednesday's final version potentially clearing up his status for Thursday's game versus the Bears. Even if he suits up, though, he may split work with the Lions' other tight ends for a second straight contest. In this past Sunday's loss at Washington, Hockenson received 33 of 74 offensive snaps, while Jesse James handled 32 and Logan Thomas got 28.

LP on practice estimate
Hockenson (shoulder) is listed as a limited participant on Monday's practice estimate, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hockenson dealt with this injury leading up to Week 12's loss to the Redskins and appeared to be held back, logging a season-low 33 offensive snaps and his first game without a catch. Since the 22-year-old still is expected to practice this week, he doesn't appear to be in jeopardy of missing a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Bears at this time.

First game without a catch
Hockenson didn't catch either of his targets during Sunday's 19-16 loss to Washington.
Analysis: Hockenson was active for the game despite popping up on the injury report late Saturday with a shoulder injury. However, it's fair to wonder to what degree he was physically limited. Not only was this the first game he went without a catch, but the division of playing time between Hockenson (33 offensive snaps), Jesse James (32) and Logan Thomas (28) was as close as it's ever been. Especially if the rookie is playing through an injury, it'll be very hard to trust Hockenson to produce in any…read more

Suiting up Week 12
Hockenson (shoulder) is listed as active Sunday at Washington.
Analysis: In the same game in which he suffered a concussion Week 4 against the Chiefs, Hockenson fell hard on his right shoulder while attempting to hurdle a defender. He didn't miss any game action due to the Lions' ensuing bye, but his status for Sunday's game came into question Saturday, when he curiously was added to the injury report with a shoulder injury. Hockenson will be available to the offense but may yield reps to fellow tight ends Jesse James and Logan Thomas.

Dealing with shoulder injury
Hockenson has a shoulder injury and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Redskins.
Analysis: The shoulder injury is a recent development as Hockenson wasn't present on the injury report all week, leaving his status for Sunday firmly up in the air. Jesse James and Logan Thomas would see increased work at tight end should Hockenson be unable to face Washington.

Ties season low in catches
Hockenson caught one of two targets for six yards during Sunday's 35-27 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: It's interesting that Hockenson wasn't in the starting lineup even though Detroit opened the game in a two-tight-end formation, but the rookie nonetheless wound up with his second-highest snap share of the season before the final whistle. The issue for him Sunday was that he just didn't see many passes come his way, as Hockenson also finished the game having seen his second-fewest targets of the year. Hockenson caught three of six targets for 47 yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to Chicago.

Avoids injury report
Hockenson (undisclosed) wasn't listed on the Lions' injury report Wednesday.
Analysis: Hockenson was removed during the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's game at Oakland to be evaluated for a concussion. While Hockenson passed all neurological tests, coach Matt Patricia told Justin Rogers of The Detroit News afterward that the tight end had the breath taken out of him. The hit from Raiders safety Erik Harris was enough to keep Hockenson sidelined for the remainder of Sunday's game, but didn't result in any sort of designation on the Lions' initial Week 10 practice report.…read more

Dodges concussion
Head coach Matt Patricia said Hockenson was hit in the back and it took the breath out of the tight end, but Hockenson is not dealing with a concussion, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Hockenson took a hard hit from Raiders safety Erik Harris on the final drive of the game during Sunday's 31-24 loss to Oakland. The rookie had to leave the field to be checked for a head injury, but Hockenson apparently was clear of concussion symptoms, which is especially great news for someone who was just treated for a concussion over Detroit's Week 5 bye thanks to another hit he took late during the Lions' Week 4 loss to Kansas City. Unable to return to game
Hockenson never returned to Sunday's 31-24 loss to the Raiders after he was evaluated for a potential concussion in the fourth quarter, Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Lions didn't have any update after the game, with coach Matt Patricia unable to confirm that Hockenson officially was diagnosed with the injury. The rookie tight end previously suffered a concussion Week 4 against the Chiefs, returning to action after a Week 5 bye. Jesse James and Logan Thomas would be line for more snaps if Hockenson isn't available Week 10 in Chicago.

Hockenson is being evaluated for a concussion after taking a big hit Sunday against the Raiders, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Hockenson is currently getting checked out in the blue tent in the fourth quarter. His return should be considered questionable as the Lions look to pull off a late comeback. The tight end mustered three catches for 56 yards before exiting.
