Struggles with misses in 2023
Maher connected on 17 of 23 field-goal attempts and 13 of 15 PATs during the 2023 regular season.
Analysis: In replacing long-time kicker Matt Gay, Maher's first run as the Rams' starting kicker lasted seven games, coming to a close after a Week 7 contest against the Steelers in which he missed two field goals and a PAT. The veteran kicker was released and replaced by Lucas Havrisik, who also failed to make an impact and was waived in Week 17 after five missed field goals and three missed PAT's of his own in nine games. Maher signed back with the Rams before a Week 18 contest against the 49ers and…read more

Misses extra-point try in return
Maher connected on one of two extra-point attempts during Sunday's 21-20 victory against San Francisco.
Analysis: The veteran kicker didn't get to do much in his first game since returning to the Rams to replace the struggling Lucas Havrisik, with no field goals attempted in the contest. Maher had his second extra-point attempt on the day sail wide left, a discouraging sign for a Rams team that struggled mightily from the position all year. Maher ends his abbreviated 2023 campaign 17-for-23 on field-goal attempts and 13-for-15 on PATs, and he'll look to avoid repeating his disastrous 2022 postseason…read more

Signs with Rams
Maher signed with the Rams on Monday after being released by the team Oct. 24, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Los Angeles waived kicker Lucas Havrisik earlier in the day after he missed two extra-point attempts in Sunday's win over the Giants. Havrisik had been the kicker since the Rams released Maher, but the former missed five field goals and three extra points in his nine games. Maher has missed six field goals and an extra point in seven appearances with the Rams this season, but the team struggled to find a better option, per Beacham.

Let go by Rams
Los Angeles released Maher on Tuesday.
Analysis: Maher's release comes after a 24-17 loss to the Steelers in which he missed two crucial field goals, both from just over 50 yards out, and with another PAT that went wide left. The veteran did convert one field-goal try from 41 yards out, but that wasn't enough to save his job. The Rams don't currently have another placekicker on the active roster, but it likely won't take much time before new options are brought in. Maher, meanwhile, will need to search for an opportunity elsewhere in the…read more

Struggles with three missed kicks
Maher connected on one of three field-goal attempts and missed his only PAT attempt during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: The embattled kicker started his day on the wrong foot with his first field-goal attempt clanging off the left upright from 53 yards out. Maher made a 41-yard attempt in the second quarter, but he then pushed a PAT later in the quarter wide left, and he finished it off with another wide left field-goal try from 51 yards in the third quarter. The Rams could've desperately used those seven missed points, which happened to be exactly the margin of defeat, and the trio of misses has put Maher's job…read more

Makes FG in all four quarters
Maher connected on all four field-goal attempts and both of his PATs during Sunday's 26-9 victory against the Cardinals.
Analysis: While Maher didn't make a lengthy field goal during his busy day of kicking, he was perfect on all six of his kicks, including field goals from 25, 29, 35 and 43 yards, respectively. The solid day for Maher was something fantasy managers were probably relieved to see after a shaky performance in Week 4 and a complete lack of field-goal attempts in Week 5. Maher now stands at a more reliable 16-for-20 on field goals on the year, making it easier to trust the veteran heading into a Week 7 home…read more

Doesn't attempt a field goal
Maher converted both of his extra-point tries during Sunday's 23-14 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: The veteran kicker was looking for redemption after a shaky start in Week 4, and while he nailed both of his PAT tries in the first half, the Rams offense sputtered after that and Maher never got a chance to score in the second half. The fifth-year pro is a perfect 10-for-10 on PATs on the year and 12-for-16 on field goals, with all four misses coming from 40-plus yards. Week 6 should provide Maher with ample opportunity to produce and solidify his perhaps shaky grasp on the kicking job for the…read more

Keeping kicking job
Rams head coach Sean McVay said that Maher will remain the team's kicker heading into Sunday's game against the Eagles, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Analysis: McVay addressed the kicker's job status after Maher misfired from 46 and 48 yards out in this past Sunday's 29-23 overtime win over the Colts. Maher turned in an excellent regular season for Dallas in 2022, but he wasn't retained by the team after knocking down just one of his six extra-point attempts between the Cowboys' two postseason contests. He then joined Denver for training camp but lost out to Wil Lutz for the kicking job before the Rams signed him ahead of Week 1. Maher has thus far…read more

Pair of misses
Maher connected on three of five field-goal attempts and both of his PATs during Sunday's 29-23 overtime win against the Colts.
Analysis: Maher had a pair of missed field goals that both went wide left, one from 46 yards and another from 48 yards. The second missed field goal in particular was a critical misfire, as the Colts took advantage of good field position after the miss and scored a touchdown, part of a 23-0 run by the Colts that helped them force overtime. Maher did connect on field goals from 40, 54 and 51 yards to salvage his day from a fantasy perspective, and he'll look to return to form in Week 5 against the Eagles.

No misses for second straight week
Maher converted all three of his field-goal attempts and his lone PAT in Monday's 19-16 loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: After a spotty start in Week 1 where Maher missed two field-goal attempts, the veteran has been a perfect 6-for-6 on field goals over the past two weeks. The Rams offense in the red zone was stuck in neutral for most of the night, which created plenty of opportunities for Maher to produce. A Week 4 matchup with the Colts lies ahead, and Maher's hold on the kicking position for the Rams should be a near lock after two very solid performances.

Perfect in Sunday's loss
Maher converted all three of his field-goal attempts and both of his PATs in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: The Rams have given Maher plenty of opportunities to produce with a surprisingly robust offensive attack, and unlike last week's mixed performance, Maher was able to convert all of his field goal attempts from 38, 43 and 48 yards. The veteran's grip on the placekicker job should tighten after an encouraging performance, and he'll look to keep the momentum going in Week 3 against the Bengals.

Signed off practice squad
The Rams signed Maher off their practice squad Tuesday.
Analysis: Maher spent training camp and the preseason with the Broncos, but Denver acquired Wil Lutz from New Orleans during roster cut downs and proceeded to release Maher on Aug. 29. The Rams swooped in and signed him to their practice squad shortly thereafter, and he was elevated to the active roster for the team's Week 1 win at Seattle, during which he made three of five field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries. Back to practice squad
Maher reverted to the Rams' practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Maher was elevated from the practice squad prior to Sunday's 30-13 win over the Seahawks, going 3-for-5 on field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries in the victory. Both of the misses came on 50-plus yard attempts, one of which was a blocked 57-yarder. With no other kicker on the roster, Maher figures to get elevated again for the team's Week 2 matchup with the 49ers.

Inconsistent in opener
Maher converted three of five field-goal attempts and all three of his extra point attempts during Sunday's 30-13 victory over the Seahawks.
Analysis: Maher's debut with the Rams was marred by a missed 56-yard field goal and a blocked 57-yard field-goal attempt in the first half, but the veteran bounced back and made attempts from 38, 54 and 45 yards out. Part of the reason the Rams waived rookie kicker Tanner Brown was his difficulties with lengthy kicks, so seeing Maher hit the 54-yard attempt in particular should give him a measure of job security for now.

Set to start for Los Angeles
Maher was elevated from the Rams' practice squad Saturday.
Analysis: The Rams didn't have a kicker on the active roster, so Maher appears locked into the starting role despite the elevation off the practice squad. The veteran kicker put together an outstanding regular season with the Cowboys in 2022, converting 29 of his 32 field-goal attempts, but a dreadful playoff stretch in which he missed six extra-point attempts saw the Cowboys opt not to retain him during the offseason.

Signing to Rams' practice squad
Maher is signing to the Rams' practice squad, not their active roster, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: It nonetheless makes him a favorite to kick Week 1 at Seattle, as the Rams recently waived rookie Tanner Brown and don't have any other kickers under contract. Maher spent the summer in Denver, where he and Elliott Fry battled for a job before ultimately both getting cut in favor of trade acquisition Wil Lutz. The 33-year-old Maher missed only six kicks in 17 games for Dallas during the 2022 regular season, but he then went 1-for-6 on PATs in two playoff games and earned a ticket out of town.

Joining Rams
Maher is set to finalize a contract with the Rams on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: The Rams didn't have a kicker on their roster after cutting Tanner Brown on Tuesday. Maher had attended training camp with the Broncos, but he ended up losing out on kicker duties in Denver after the team acquired Wil Lutz in a trade. The strong-legged but occasionally inaccurate Maher now looks like the favorite to handle kicking duties for the Rams in Week 1, barring the team bringing aboard additional competition.

The Broncos are slated to let Maher go, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.

Only kicker left in Denver
Maher is currently the only kicker on the Broncos roster after Denver waived Elliott Fry (undisclosed) with an injury designation on Tuesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: According to Renck, Maher, who missed both of his field-goal attempts in this past Friday's preseason opener against the Cardinals, converted seven of nine field-goal tries in Tuesday's practice, including a 59-yarder at the end of a two-minute drill. For now, Maher is Denver's lone kicker, but it's possible that the team brings in some competition. Favorite for kicking job
Maher and Elliott Fry are in a training camp battle to be the Broncos' kicker this season, with Maher the favorite to land the job, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Analysis: Maher signed with Denver in late July following a solid regular season with Dallas last year, when he made 29 of 32 field-goal attempts, including going 9-for-11 from at least 50 yards. However, the veteran kicker famously caught a case of extra-point yips in the playoffs, which played a role in his exit from the Cowboys. Should Maher prove to be over that issue, he has a leg up in the competition with Fry, who has kicked in only three NFL games in his career.

Likely done in Dallas
Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that the team will be "starting over" at kicker, implying that Maher is unlikely to be retained heading into the 2023 season, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Maher is already headed for free agency with his contract set to expire at the start of the new league year, and Dallas apparently won't be looking to re-sign the 33-year-old. After bouncing around several organizations for much of his career, Maher appeared to find a home in Dallas in 2022. He was one of the NFL's top kickers during the regular season, converting 29 of his 32 field-goal attempts and totaling 137 points, tied for third in the NFL. Big year marred by playoff gaffes
Maher connected on 29 of 32 field-goal attempts, including nine of 11 from 50 yards or longer, and 50 of 53 extra-point attempts across 17 regular-season games in 2022.
Analysis: His impressive performance during the regular season, which saw Maher finish tied for third in the NFL with 137 points, was the good news. The bad? His dreadful postseason numbers, as he missed five of six PATs in two playoff games. The kicker is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and the rough ending to his campaign could put his future with the Cowboys in doubt. Retaining role Sunday
The Cowboys didn't elevate Tristan Vizcaino from the practice squad Saturday, meaning Maher will serve as the team's placekicker during Sunday's divisional-round game at San Francisco.
Analysis: In the wake of Maher missing his first four extra-point attempts this past Monday at Tampa Bay, Dallas seemingly had a problem at kicker as it advanced in the postseason. While coach Mike McCarthy and special teams coordinator John Fassel expressed trust in Maher on Tuesday, owner Jerry Jones was less forthright, saying the team would "take a look" at the situation, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. Another kicker in Dallas
Maher, who is expected to be the Cowboys' placekicker for Sunday's divisional-round game in San Francisco, will be joined at the position after the team signed Tristan Vizcaino to the practice squad Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Despite making 50 of 53 point-after tries during the regular season, Maher raised some question marks regarding his job security during Monday's 31-14 wild-card win at Tampa Bay after missing his first four extra points. Retains job after four missed PATs
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy and special teams coordinator John Fassel both noted after Monday's 31-14 win over the Buccaneers in the wild-card round that Maher will retain placekicking duties for Sunday's divisional-round game at San Francisco, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "We're going to forge ahead (with Maher)," McCarthy said Tuesday. "As of right now, that's the plan."
Analysis: Meanwhile, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was less willing to provide an endorsement of Maher, saying he would "take a look" at their kicking situation after the 33-year-old missed point-after attempts on the Cowboys' first four touchdowns of Monday's game before converting his final extra-point try in the fourth quarter. Goose egg in season finale
Maher didn't receive a field-goal attempt and missed his only extra point try in Sunday's loss to the Commanders.
Analysis: It was a mind-bogglingly bad performance by the entire Dallas offense to close out the regular season, and Maher's first missed PAT since Week 13 on his only kick of the day was the cherry on top. The 33-year-old still set a new career high with 50 made PATs this season and tied his career high with 29 FGs, including a 9-for-11 showing from 50 yards or longer, and Maher may not be able to afford any mistakes in Monday's wild-card clash with the Buccaneers.

Piles up points against Eagles
Maher converted all four of his field-goal attempts and all four of his extra points in Saturday's 40-34 win over the Eagles.
Analysis: Both offenses had field days despite the fact that the Dallas and Philly defenses ranked among the best units in the league, and Maher once again cashed in every opportunity he was given. The 16 points tied his season high, and while the kicker doesn't always get many FG chances, he's booted at least three PATs in nine straight games.

Ten points in OT loss
Maher connected on both his field-goal attempts and all four of his PATs in Sunday's overtime loss to the Jaguars.
Analysis: He booted field goals on back-to-back Dallas possessions in the third quarter to give the team a 27-10 lead, but the Jags stormed back late and eventually came away with a 40-34 victory. Maher continues to see plenty of extra points, but his inconsistent FG volume has meant he's only reached double-digit points twice in the last nine games. Perfect in Sunday's win
Maher converted both his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's win over the Texans.
Analysis: It's just the second time in the Cowboys' last seven games Maher has seen multiple FG attempts, but the team's offense has provided him with plenty of PAT opportunities -- he hasn't kicked fewer than three extra points in a game during that stretch. He'll remain a high-floor fantasy option heading into a Week 15 trip to Jacksonville.

FG opportunities drying up
Maher connected on six of seven extra point attempts in Sunday's 54-19 win over the Colts.
Analysis: He had one PAT blacked and missed out on another when the Cowboys went for two while the outcome of the game was still in doubt. The Dallas offense may be too efficient right now for Maher to have much of a fantasy ceiling -- he's seen at least four extra-point attempts in five straight games, but has zero FG attempts in three of them and only one (which he missed) in one of the other two. That distribution of opportunities isn't likely to change much in Week 14 against the lowly Texans.

Rare miss in Thanksgiving win
Maher missed his only field-goal attempt but connected on all four of his extra points in Thursday's win over the Giants.
Analysis: His 46-yard miss in the fourth quarter didn't affect the final result, but it was his first misfire on a FG attempt of less than 50 yards all season. Maher is 22-for-22 on PATs over the last five games, giving him a steady fantasy floor, but he's seen more than one FG attempt only once during that stretch as the efficiency of the Dallas offense has limited his ceiling.

Busy in Sunday's rout
Maher connected on all four of his field-goal attempts and all four of his PATs in Sunday's 40-3 win over the Vikings.
Analysis: With the Cowboys' offense slipping into overdrive, Maher had plenty of chances to rack up points, but his most impressive feat came at the end of the second quarter. He booted a 60-yard field goal just as the clock expired on the half, only for the kick to get undone by a late replay call from upstairs. Perfect on PATs in Lambeau
Maher converted all four of his extra-point attempts but didn't see a field-goal attempt in Sunday's overtime loss to the Packers.
Analysis: For the second straight game, Maher failed to even get a chance to kick a field goal as Dallas efficiently turned red-zone trips into touchdowns and was aggressive on fourth down at the edge of Maher's range. The 32-year-old kicker has gone 11-for-11 on PATs in those two games, so he hasn't been without value, but his fantasy ceiling will remain capped until the Cowboys' offense begins to stall out once in a while. Career-high seven PATs
Maher connected on all seven of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 49-29 win over the Bears.
Analysis: Despite not getting any field-goal attempts, Maher still wound up with solid production by virtue of sheer volume. The 32-year-old kicker's prior career high for PATs in a single game was five, set in Week 1 of the 2019 season, and with Dak Prescott back under center and the Cowboys' offense regaining its swagger, Maher figures to be plenty busy in the second half of the season.

Perfect against Detroit
Maher connected on his only field-goal attempt and all three of his PATs in Sunday's win over the Lions.
Analysis: It's the first time since Week 1 that Maher hasn't seen multiple FG attempts, and perhaps not coincidentally, that was also the last time Dak Prescott was under center. The three extra points were a season high though, and if a more efficient Cowboys offense trades some of the former for the latter, Maher should still see enough volume to have a steady fantasy floor.

Misses FG in Sunday's loss
Maher connected on both his extra points and one of two field-goal attempts during Sunday's 26-17 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: The fourth-quarter miss from 59 yards out had the distance but drifted wide right, and it would have brought the Cowboys to within one score with a little over a minute left in the game. Maher has missed only three kicks -- two of 16 field goals and one of nine PATs -- through six games, and he could see a spike in opportunities in Week 7 against the Lions if Dak Prescott (thumb) is able to return to action.

Drills Week 2 game-winner
Maher connected on both his extra-point attempts and both his field-goal attempts Sunday, including a 50-yarder as time expired in a 20-17 win over the Bengals.
Analysis: The 32-year-old was good from 54 yards out just before halftime, giving him a dress rehearsal for his game-winning kick at the end of the fourth quarter. Maher is off to a solid start to the season in his third stint with the Cowboys and has yet to miss a kick through two games, although his volume could remain volatile with backup QB Cooper Rush under center and the team dealing with an all-around underperforming offense.

Officially with active roster
Maher signed a contract with the Cowboys on Saturday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys opted to forgo his two weeks of practice-squad callup eligibility and instead signed the kicker to the active 53-man roster. The 32-year-old made his lone kick in a Week 1 shellacking at the hands of the Buccaneers.

Moves back to practice squad
Maher reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Maher was limited to just one field-goal attempt after being elevated from Dallas' practice squad ahead of Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay. The 32-year-old will be available for two more such elevations before the team is forced to sign him to the active roster moving forward this season.

Little work in Week 1 loss
Maher connected on a 51-yard field goal on his only attempt in Sunday's 19-3 loss to the Buccaneers.
Analysis: The Cowboys' offense was brutal to begin the season, and the unit now faces the prospect of more poor outings to come with Dak Prescott (hand) sidelined for multiple weeks. In theory that could result in plenty of stalled drives and field-goal attempts for Maher, but if Week 1 is any indication, it's more likely to mean he hardly gets used at all. Fantasy GMs who landed on Maher in their drafts will likely want to check the waiver wire for alternatives.

Moves up to active roster
Maher was elevated to the Cowboys' active roster Saturday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Expect the Cowboys to repeat this process for Maher over the next three weeks as the team manipulates the practice squad elevations. The veteran kicker easily won the job during training camp and should be an interesting fantasy option even with the Cowboys limited offensively without standout left tackle Tyron Smith (leg) and stud wide receiver Michael Gallup (knee).

Stays on Dallas' practice squad
Maher agreed to a deal Wednesday to join the Cowboys' practice squad and is expected to serve as Dallas' kicker in the team's Sept. 11 season opener against Tampa Bay, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Maher previously kicked for the Cowboys in 2018 and 2019 before replacing an injured Wil Lutz with New Orleans last season. He then joined the Cowboys in early August to provide competition, and within two weeks, Maher was the only kicker left on the roster. He may prove functional for fantasy, regardless of his roster status, as the Cowboys typically have played at a fast pace and moved the ball effectively when they've had quarterback Dak Prescott in the lineup. Released but should be re-signed
The Cowboys released Maher on Tuesday but likely will re-sign him before Week 1, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The team signed Maher on Aug. 9 after Jonathan Garibay was waived. Dallas then cut Lirim Hajrullahu two weeks later, leaving Maher as the only kicker on the roster. He's one of the few kickers in NFL history with multiple conversions from over 60 yards, but he struggled with midrange kicks during his first stint in Dallas (2018-19).

Lone kicker in Dallas
Maher is left as the only kicker on the Cowboys' roster after the team waived Lirim Hajrullahu on Tuesday, Nick Eatman of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys have cycled through kickers this offseason, at various times rostering Chris Naggar, Jonathan Garibay, Hajrullahu and Maher after moving on from Greg Zuerlein. Maher is still not guaranteed to be Dallas' kicker Week 1, but he's coming off a 2021 campaign in which he made 16-of-18 field-goal attempts and 10-of-12 point-after tries in eight appearances with the Saints.

Cut by New Orleans
Maher was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Maher appeared in eight games for New Orleans in 2021 and went 16-for-18 on field goals and 10-for-12 on PATs, but Wil Lutz (abdomen) is set to return after missing the entire campaign. Maher made only 67 percent of his field goals with the Cowboys in 2019, but he could receive some interest on the open market after performing well as an injury replacement for the Saints.

Stabilizes placekicking for NOLA
Maher converted 16 of 18 field-goal attempts and 10 of 12 PATs over eight games in 2021.
Analysis: In a quest to replace Wil Lutz (abdomen), the Saints went through a pair of kickers before Maher arrived on the scene. While Maher fared much better than Aldrick Rosas or Cody Parkey, he probably didn't do enough to make New Orleans consider moving on from Lutz's admittedly expensive contract.

Matches career high
Maher made four of four field-goal attempts but missed his lone PAT during Sunday's 18-10 win over Carolina.
Analysis: Maher has been one of the most active kickers in the league since Taysom Hill has taken over at QB. In four games with Hill as the starter, Maher has averaged three field-goal attempts per game with his only miss coming from beyond 50 yards. While he's now 7-for-9 on PATs through nine games, those blemishes can largely be overlooked given his otherwise perfect performance on short-to-mid range kicks. Accounts for every point
Maher converted three of three field-goal attempts during Sunday's 9-0 win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Neither team was able to get much going, but Maher was at least able to cap off three scoring drives from between 35 and 42 yards out. While fantasy owners have appreciated consecutive strong fantasy performances from the kicker, they should remember the three games before that when Maher totaled three field-goal attempts. He'll at least be a high-upside fantasy option when New Orleans matches up with Miami at home in Week 16.

Bounces back after early miss
Maher made one of his two field-goal attempts and both of his extra points during Thursday's 27-17 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Maher didn't start his night off great, as he missed a 56-yard field goal wide right during the Saints' second offensive drive of the game. However, the 32-year-old kicker was able to bounce back and connected on his remaining three kicks, including a 42-yarder that cut Dallas' lead to 13-10 in the second quarter. No opportunities on Thanksgiving
Maher didn't attempt a field goal or PAT during Thursday's 31-6 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: New Orleans' Trevor Siemian-led offense had immense difficulty moving the ball against the Bills' elite defense. When the Saints were finally able to find the end zone, they went for two. As long as Alvin Kamara (knee) is sidelined and Siemian remains under center, Maher shouldn't be considered for fantasy purposes.

Misses PAT in Saints debut
Maher converted his lone field-goal attempt but went two-of-three on PATs during Sunday's 40-29 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: In making his Saints debut, Maher's missed extra point blemished a modest performance that included a field goal of just 28 yards. If Alvin Kamara (knee) remains sidelined in Week 12, it wouldn't be wise to see if a Trevor Siemian-led offense will present Maher with more opportunities against Buffalo's top-ranked defense.

The Cardinals signed Maher to the practice squad Friday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Zane Gonzalez (back) is out for the rest of the regular season, and Mike Nugent has taken his place as the Cardinals' starting kicker in the meantime. Nugent has been perfect, hitting all five field-goal attempts and all six extra-point tries, so Maher is merely an emergency kicker option as the Cardinals make their playoff push. May lose job after another miss
Coach Jason Garrett suggested Maher could lose his job after another poor showing in Thursday's 31-24 loss to the Bears, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "We decided to give Brett an opportunity this week," Garrett said Friday. "It didn't work out. So we have to take a real close, hard look at that."
Analysis: The Cowboys brought in three kickers at the beginning of the week but decided not to sign any of them. Maher connected on three of four field goals in Sunday's 13-9 loss to the Patriots.
Analysis: Kicking in fairly miserable conditions on a rainy day in Foxboro, Maher missed from 46 yards out midway through the first quarter but bounced back to successfully convert his remaining chances. The second-year kicker's 72.2 percent success rate on FGs (13-for-18) through eight games looks sketchy, but three of his five misses have come from 50 yards or more (4-for-7 in total from that range) and he's been successful on all 26 of his extra points.
