Week 16 Recap: Tuesday Edition

Scandinavian Stars Throat-Punches Guatemala City Tamales to Get into Championship

Scandinavian Stars crushed Guatemala City Tamales 178.16 to 122.82 while putting up the second-highest point total of the season. A primetime rally on Sunday Night Football (33.92 SNF points, 28% of their total score) wasn't meant to be for Guatemala City Tamales. Scandinavian Stars took a 32.86-point lead on Thursday and remained in front for the rest of the matchup. This beatdown was revenge for a loss to Guatemala City Tamales in their last meeting a season ago. The Atlanta Falcons DEF racked up the second-highest score of the league this week with 34.00 points (7 PA, 2 TD, 3 Sack, 2 Int, 1 Fum) for Guatemala City Tamales.

Dowdle had plenty of opportunities for Guatemala City Tamales, but could only manage 51 total yards on 16 touches.

For the victorious side, a few players have been postseason stars, most notably Jerome Ford and Jason Sanders. During the playoffs, that duo has topped their season scoring averages by 155% and 60%, respectively. Conversely, Scandinavian Stars has a player trending in the wrong direction. Tony Pollard has fallen significantly short of his year-to-date average in the postseason by 27%. Despite the loss, Guatemala City Tamales also had a pair of players performing their best in the playoffs: Amon-Ra St. Brown and Chase McLaughlin. During the postseason, that combo has averaged 23.15 and 11.00 points, respectively, topping their season-long marks by 50% and 36%. On the other hand, the losers had a couple of players who struggled in the playoff spotlight: Cooper Kupp and Kenneth Walker III.

Next week, the league championship will be decided when Scandinavian Stars faces No. 6-seeded Milan Wild Boars. These teams most recently battled in Week 6, with Scandinavian Stars winning, 126.48 to 90.02. Guatemala City Tamales wrapped up the regular season in fourth place with a record of 9-5. Their record was a bit misleading, as they ranked just eighth in the league in scoring average at 112.08 points per game. In their only other postseason game of the season, Guatemala City Tamales beat City Of Champions, 138.12 to 110.84.
